KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE

Keep the dream
Alive
Keep the hope
Alive
Keep on believing
Keep on relying
Keep on living
God

When the whole world
Lets you down
Keep on believing
In God
Keep the dream
Alive

When the whole world
Knocks you down
When you are
Having trouble
Getting off the ground
Keep on believing
In God

Keep the dream
Alive
Keep the hope
Alive
Keep on believing
Keep on relying
Keep on living
God

Keep he dream alive

NOW I SEE

We all know
What it means
To be physically blind
Or at least
We can imagine

To not be able
To see
The beautiful faces and smiles
Of our children

To not be able
To see
The dazzling golden sun

To
As we walk along
A coast of water
To not be able
To see those waves
Come crashing in

But what does it mean
To be spiritually blind

To not recognize
The love of God
Or to see God
In one another

In the Gospel of Matthew
The 23rd chapter to be precise
Jesus castigates
The religious leaders
Of his day

Jesus says to them,
“If anyone
Swears by the Temple
It means nothing

But if anyone
Swears by the gold of the Temple
He is bound
By his oath

You blind fools
Which is greater
The gold
Or the Temple
That makes gold sacred”

God above money
Love above hate
It’s what is in
A person’s heart
That counts and is important

Man judges by outward appearance
But God judges
By what is in
A person’s heart

Now I see
I see
What you are saying Lord
Now I can see

Jesus goes on
To tell the religious leaders
Of his day,

“You are the ones
Who justify yourselves
In the eyes of men
But God knows your hearts
What is highly valued
Among men
Is detestable in God’s sight’

Peace, love, kindness, forgiveness
Now I see Lord
Now I see
What is really important

It isn’t any different today Lord
Is it

NOW I SEE

CARRY ME THE EXTRA MILE

I’m running out of time
And I’m running out of money
I’m already out of health
And I don’t
Even have a honey

Lord
Carry me the extra mile
Because if you don’t
How am I going to get through
Please help me Lord
The time is now

Lord I have so much work to do
How am I going to do it

Without you
It can’t be done
Without you
The battle
Can’t be won

Lord
Please carry me the extra mile
Lord
Help me to do it in style
With class, with love
It can only be done
By the grace of God above

I’m running out of time
I’m running out of money
Don’t have much health
Don’t even have a honey

Lord
Please carry me the extra mile
Please, please, Lord
Let’s do it in style

Lord, please carry me
Carry me
Carry me the extra mile

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD

They say
It can’t be done
They say
Never in a million years

But God can do all things
In those who believe
God can do all things
In those who receive
God’s words
Into their hearts

They say
It can’t be done
They say
It is impossible

Don’t you remember
All things
All things are possible with God

All things are possible
For those who believe
All things are possible
For those who receive
God’s words
Into their hearts
All things
ALL THINGS are possible with God

ARE YOU JOYFUL

Are you a joyful person
Before you say yes
Think about it

Are you joyful
Even when your health is falling apart
Are you joyful
When you don’t have enough money in the bank
To pay your bills

Are you joyful
When your relationship
With your significant other
Is falling apart
Or when your personal relationships
Are not what they were---
Or what they used to be

If you and I can truly say yes to this question
When our lives are falling apart
Then we are truly
Living in the spirit of God

Someone once said,
“Joy is the infallible sign
Of GOD’S PRESENCE
In your life”

Joy is one of the aspects
And is a sign
That God’s word---GOD’S SPIRIT
Is alive in us

That joy is evident
In Jesus’ life
The COMPASSION that he showed
To those in need---the healing
Always making himself AVAILABLE to others

And Jesus
Teaches us that joy comes from servant hood

Even with impending crucifixion and death
He gets down on his hands and knees
And washes his disciples feet
So they would be made clean

JOY
Comes from
Having a servant’s heart

“I have set an example
That you should do
As I have done for you”                                           John 13:16

Joy
Comes from
Having a servant’s heart

“And we pray this
In order that you may live a life
Worthy of the Lord
And may please him
In every way

Bearing fruit in every good work
Growing in the knowledge of God
Being strengthened with all power
According to his glorious might
So that you may have
Great endurance and patience
And JOYFULLY giving thanks to the Father”                        1 Corinthians 10-12

If you can be joyous
When you are suffering
AS CHRIST DID
You are truly living in the SPIRIT OF GOD

And if we remain JOYOUS
In ALL circumstances
Living on the WORD OF GOD
It will lead us
To salvation

“Though you have not seen him
You love him
And even though
You do not see him now
You believe in him
And are filled
With an inexpressible and glorious JOY
For you are receiving the GOAL of your faith

THE SALVATION OF YOUR SOULS”                                   1 Peter 8-9

May the JOY OF THE LORD
LIVE IN YOU

CAN WE BREAK GOD’S HEART

Can we
A mere mortal
Break God’s heart

I believe we can
And I believe it
Because of God’s unwavering love
for us

Only someone who you love
Can in fact
Brake your heart
And we are all
Children of God
And God loves us
With an infinite love

The Word of God
Is in fact spirit
And he wants us
To live
According to the fruits
Of that spirit
And these fruits
Are love, peace, joy, patience
Kindness, goodness, faithfulness
Gentleness, and self-control

He wants us
To live these qualities
And not lives of
Coldness, indifference, ingratitude, and rejection
Of him and those around us

But we are children of God
And like any loving parent
God forgives us
Over and over and over again

So what can we do
To earn God’s love and forgiveness
Nothing

All we can do
Is to strive to become better each and every day
And know God still loves us

WITH AN INFINITE LOVE

WHY THEM---WHY US

Can you name
The 12 Apostles

I’ll be honest
I can’t
Not---at least---without going to my Bible

Oh I know
Peter and his brother, Andrew
James, and his brother John
And several of the others

But more importantly
Did you ever wonder
Why Jesus chose this motley crew
This group of men
Who were society’s outcasts

Maybe he chose them
Because they were just people
Like you and me
People who made mistakes
In their life
People who had
Their heart in the right place
And were longing
To make a difference
In the world

Don’t ever underestimate
The redemptive power of love
Don’t ever underestimate
Someone who has their heart
In the right place

Don’t ever underestimate
The longing to make a difference
In this world

One day
Jesus met 4 fishermen
And on that particular day
They were catching no fish
Jesus told them
To try it again

They caught
Such a large number of fish
That their nets began to break
Peter said, “Go away from me Lord;
I am a sinful man”                                                          1 Luke 5:8

Do you ever feel that way
I know that I do

Why them
Why us

Why society’s outcasts
Why earth’s exiles

Because of God’s love
Because of the yearning
In each of these 12 men’s hearts
To make something
That they did wrong in life
And make it right

For the record
The Apostles were the 4 previously mentioned
Matthew, the tax collector
Bartholomew, Judas*, Philip,                          *  Judas was later replaced by Matthias
Simon, Thaddeus, Thomas, the other James  ( the zealot )

Why them
Why us

The Pharisees asked the disciples this very question,
“Why does your teacher
Eat with tax collectors and sinners?”                                         Matthew 9:11

Jesus overheard the question and said,
“It is not the healthy
Who need a Doctor
But the sick……..
I desire mercy, not sacrifice
For I have come
Not to call the righteous
But sinners”                                                                    Matthew 9:12-13

Why them
Why us

To show
The REDEMPTIVE POWER of God’s love
In a willing heart

MARCH 23rd, 2012

I have a broken heart
No one ever died of a broken heart
I’m looking for a brand new start
No one ever died of a broken heart
My heart has been battered
My dreams have been shattered
I’m trying to keep it all from falling apart
No one ever died of a broken heart

Walk away you don’t need a lot of money
Walk away you don’t need a brand new car
Walk away you don’t need a hundred honeys
Just walk away
You don’t need to be a star

I’m in search of a brand new dream
I’m in search of some all new themes
So you have a broken heart
No one ever died of a broken heart
So you’re in search of a brand new start
No one ever died of a broken heart
Got to use your head to rule your heart
If you want to keep it all
From falling apart

My heart is in a thousand pieces
But the world never stops
The world never ceases

Walk away look for a brand new direction
Walk away try to make a new connection
Walk away give your heart some time
Walk away somehow someday
Again you’ll feel sublime

I have a broken heart
No one ever died of a broken heart
I’m looking for a brand new start
No one ever died of a broken heart
My heart has been shattered
My dreams have been shattered
I’m trying to keep it all from falling apart
No one ever died of a broken heart
Just walk away
Look for a brand new start
Just walk away
No one ever died of a broken heart

I’m walking away and the tears keep on falling
I’m walking away and the voices of my past keep on calling
Don’t walk away-don’t go
But I have to use my head to rule my heart
No one ever died of a broken hear
I have to try to make a brand new start

No one ever died of a broken heart

IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT

In the still of the night
Is when it comes to mind
Of what has transpired
The memories of what I once was
The reality of what I am
And the flickering hopes of what I can still become

It isn’t easy to have so much taken away
To turn disaster into sun’s shining rays
When all the world keeps revolving
While your life is dissolving
And there’s not a kind word left at your door
There’s no time for understanding
The whole world is in a world

The whole world is in a hurry
But where they are going I cannot say
Me, I am going to take me time
After all, we are all going to die

You might as well take your time
And keep your goals and dreams in sight
Don’t get lost in that human cobweb
People will hurt you and leave you in a fright

I’ve lost many a battle in the last few years
But as long as I’m alive, I haven’t lost the war
I’ve lost many of my physical abilities
But I still got the talent to make me soar
And if my life ever becomes ground
On the hopes and dreams of which it was found

Baby, it will still be there in the still of the night

THAT MOST SATISFYING FEELING

The most satisfying feeling
In this world
Is to
Help another human being

Because
It is
Not what happens to them
It is
What happens to us
We are
Transformed on the inside

Come to me
All you
Who are weary and heavy burdened
And I will give you rest

Help another human being
Help another soul
We are
Not in this alone
We are
A community of all

Take my yoke upon you
For my yoke is easy
And
My burden is light

The most satisfying feeling
In this world
Is to
Help another human being

For I am meek
And humble of heart

Help another human being
Help another soul
We are
Not in this alone

We are
A COMMUNITY OF ALL

“God So Loved the World”

God so loved
The world
That he gave us
His one and only Son

How much love
Do you have
For God
For your neighbor

Can you imagine
How much love
How much love
That took

Can you imagine
Giving up your child
For someone else

How God’s heart
Must have broke
As Jesus was rejected
And hung dying on the cross
God so loved
The world
That he gave us
His only begotten Son

How much love
Do you have
Accept God—Accept Christ
Into your hearts

A FATHER SHOULD BE

A father should be
A sign of inspiration
For his child

A father should try
To be a sign of
Love, honesty, and hope

A father should be
Fun to be with
For his child

A father should be
A disciplinarian
For his child--when he has to be

A father should know
That more than
The material things
He brings his family

It is the intrinsic values
That he teaches his children
That are most important

A father should know
He will fall short
From time to time

Most of all
A father should know
That we love him
No matter what
And that it is up to his children
To love him so

GRANDFATHER MURPHY

I remember, well, my grandfather Murphy.  I used to sit on his lap in the
Living room, when I was a young boy.  He was kind.  I remember that he
Reminded me of Abraham Lincoln.  But not as tall.

He died when I was six-one month before my seventh birthday.  My mom
Said I had became withdrawn and would hardly even talk.  My mom said that
My first grade school teacher called and said, “what’s wrong with Bob?  He
Acts like he just lost his best friend?”  My mom said that I did.

As a young boy, this was my first real encounter with death.  I still remember
Him.  He was kind, loyal, loving, and smart.

My grandfather had only a 4th grade education.  Yet he went to Carnegie Tech
( now Carnegie Mellon ), to study later in his life.  As I get older, I find myself
More and more, thinking about the people that I love ( or loved me ), in this life.

Granddad, this one is for you.

Respectfully,

MISSED OPPORTUNITY

In the 13th chapter
Of Saint Luke’s Gospel
Luke tells the story
Through parables
As Jesus begins to
Pass through the towns
For the last time

Unfortunately
For many of the people
They were not interested

Today
We have the Word of God
And unfortunately for us
Many of us are not interested

In life
Many of the economic opportunities
Are unequally distributed

But spiritually speaking
We all have an opportunity
To look for
To search for
And maybe even find God
Living within us

Life is beautiful
Or at least can be beautiful
And I wonder
If any of us
Really take the time to notice

There are three things
That we all can do

We must love
We must love God
And we must love one another

And we must laugh
Laugh at our own foibles
And insecurities
They say a gloomy Christian
Is a non-believing Christian

And we must listen to
And be there
For one another

We shall pass this way
But once
And we must do
ALL the good we can
Show all the kindness
We can

Because
We shall pass this way

JUST ONCE

THE MYSTERY OF US

The mystery of us
Is that we are like
No one else
And yet
We are like
Everyone else
And that is
The mystery of us

The mystery of us
Is that
We are God’s wonder
The mystery of us
Is that
Aw are like no one else

The mystery of us
Is that each one of us is unique
And yet
The mystery of us
Is that
We all want to be accepted
And that we have
The same wants and needs

The mystery of us
Is that we are all
Like no one else
And yet we are all alike
Everyone with the same
Wants and needs

That is the mystery of us

WRESTLING WITH GOD

How many of us
Have wrestled with God
Over a particular matter
A particular decision

Maybe even promising God,
“If you’ll just do this for me
I will never ask for anything again”

In Genesis 32
Moses tells us
About an encounter Jacob has with a man

They wrestle all night
And when the man
Sees he cannot overpower Jacob
He touches Jacob’s hip
So that his hip becomes wrenched

The man says,
”Let me go, for it is daybreak”
Jacob responds,
“I will not let you go
Unless you bless me”

“What is your name, the man says?”
“Jacob”
The man said,
“Your name will be no longer Jacob, but Israel
Because you have struggled with God
And with men and have overcome”

The man went away
And Jacob knew
He had had an encounter with God
And lived to tell about it
But he walked with a limp
The rest of his life

Isn’t that the way with us
When we encounter our God
In prayer and in our life

Maybe getting what we want
Maybe not

But walking away
Knowing that we just had an encounter
With God--- and knowing that it will stay with us
The rest of our life

We pray to you Dear Lord
As we wrestle with you
On our journey through life

Wanting our own way and
Not accepting your way and will
For our lives
Yet knowing deep down
That your way is best

We pray
That as we wrestle with you
As we face the trials in our life
That we,

“Be joyful in hope
Patient in affliction
Faithful in prayer”

And that we

“Share with God’s people in need
And practice hospitality”

If we really and truly
Adopt this attitude
We know that we will never lose when

“Wrestling with God”

TODAY I CALL YOU FRIEND

Is your
Relationship with God
Built on ideology
Or is it built on true love
A true love
Os God and others

I don’t care
What religion you are
Catholic or Christian
Muslim or Jew

If your relationship
With God
Is not built on a truly personal level
I suggest you go back
To square one
And start anew

Are you sharing every aspect
Of your life
With him

“I am the vine
You are the branches”

The good and the bad
That deepest darkest level
Of your soul

“Remain in me
And I will
Remain in you’

If you remain in the Lord
You are one of his branches
And he will NEVER be
Ashamed of you
He will call you FRIEND

The thing is
Faith is NOT about ideology
Faith is NOT
About your beliefs

Faith is having
A deep deep personal relationship
With Christ and God
On every level

“I have called you friend
For everything
That I have learned from my Father
I have made known to you”

“You did not choose me
I chose you
Go and bear fruit
Fruit---that will last”

“Today”---my son---my daughter
The Lord says,
“I CALL YOU FRIEND”

You just never know

Might find a way

How life changes
You just never know
What touches a person’s heart
You just never know
What can give your life
A brand new start

Keep yourself alive one more day
You just never know

You just never know
What good can happen
You just never know
How your life can change
If you’ll hang in there

I am a representative
Of God in this world
And you might not know it
But you are too

I represent God
I represent life
I represent kindness
All the things
This world
Tells us are meaningless

I represent love
I represent forgiveness
I represent the small things
Of this world
All the values
This world
Tells us are meaningless

We represent God
We represent one another
We shouldn’t let one person sink
After all
They are our brother

We represent God
We represent one another
Let’s help everyone swim
After all
They are our brother

THE SAINT OF WRITERS---Saint Francis de Sales

He was born in 1567
In France

He was very delicate as a boy
And was educated privately
At least at first

Later---
He attended the University of Paris
And studied rhetoric, philosophy, and theology

He became a doctor of law
And opportunities
For marriage and a brilliant career abounded
But he chose
To become a Catholic priest

He became distinguished
Both for his service to the poor
And his preaching

He succeeded
In almost everything that he did
Because of his great love
His great understanding
And his persistent patience and gentleness

His most famous writings were called
THE TREATISE OF THE LOVE OF GOD
And
INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVOUT LIFE

One of his best friends was
Jane Frances de Chantal
Who founded the Visitation order
 Under his direction
And who later became a Saint herself

He was extremely influential as a writer
And in leading souls to self-sacrifice
And to the finding of God’s love

He died in 1622
Was canonized as a Saint in 1665
And declared a Doctor of the church in 1877

His name is FRANCIS de SALES

Robert P. Wallman

Ps                    Francis de Sales feast day is January 24th---I found great inspiration---
In reading the life story of Saint Francis de Sales---and find great
inspiration in reading the lives of ALL the Saints

PERSISTENCE

We are
Never going to be perfect
As our Lord and Savior
Was perfect

We are human
We have limitations
We have weaknesses

That doesn’t mean
We should give up
And keep striving
To get better

It just means
That we must recognize
That we are NOT God

Accept it

Keep learning more about ourselves
And keep ourselves moving
In that positive direction
To becomes as close to God---and Christ
As we can---for us

PERSISTENCE

Do you know what persistence means

Persistence means to---
Refuse to give up
It means to persevere

It means
That when we slip up
From time to time
And we will

It means for us
To continue to stand firm in our faith---to persevere

It means for us
To continue to believe
In God’s plan and love for us

It means that we should NOT LISTEN
To those internal and external voices
That are telling us
That we don’t measure up
And that we never will

WE MUST KNOW
That when we begin to doubt ourselves
That GOD STILL BELIEVES in us

“My sheep listen to my voice
I KNOW THEM---and they know me
I give them eternal life
And they shall NEVER PERISH
NO ONE can snatch them
Out of my hand

My Father
Who has given them to me
Is GREATER THAN ALL
NO ONE can snatch them
Out of my Father’s hand
I and the Father are ONE”                                  John 10:27-30

So we must persist
In our faith
We must persevere
In our faith

It is
Our persistence and perseverance
That touches God---NOT OUR PERFECTION
As he knows---he ALONE is perfect

“I thank my God
Every time I remember you
In all my prayers
For all of you

I always pray with joy
Because of our partnership
In the Gospel

From the first day until now
Being confident of this
That he who began
A good work in you
Will carry it on to completion
Until the day of Christ Jesus”                                              1 Philippians 3-6

THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST

In the 20th chapter
Of Saint Matthew’s Gospel
Jesus tells us the parable
Of a landowner hiring workers

He hires
Some workers in the morning
He hires
Some in mid-day
And her hires some
 Late in the day

When it comes time
For payment
He pays them
All the same wages

Is Jesus being unfair
What is Jesus
Trying to teach us

Jesus is NOT being unfair
Because he paid everyone
What he promised to pay them

I think here again
Jesus is trying to teach us
That God’s ways
Are NOT our ways

I think he is
Trying to teach us
That it makes no difference
When you come to God
As long as
YOU DO
Come to God

And I think Jesus
Is trying to teach us
That the payment
Is the same for us
No matter when we come to God
As long as
We do come to God

And the payment is
GOD’S UNDYING LOVE FOR US
AND SPENDING OUR ETRNITY WITH HIM
IN HEAVEN

A FRIEND OF GOD

I am
A friend of God
His message
Is written in my heart

I am
A friend of God
His message is written
In my soul

I am
A friend of God
His message
Is always on my mind

Maybe
I will never do great things
Maybe his message
Will only be seen
In my smile

When I have the patience
To listen to
Another living soul

But I will always know
I am a friend of God
And that his message
Is always written
In love

I am
A friend of God
I am
A friend of yours too

On thing I know is
God’s message
Is always written in love

GOD SENDS PEOPLE

Throughout time
When the world
Has chosen the wrong road
Has chosen the road of darkness
Instead of God’s road of LIGHT

God sends people

God sends people
People to point out our mistakes
God does this
Because there is
So much at stake

One such person
That God sent
Was Jeremiah

A prophet who came
About 600 years before Christ

Idolatry and perverted worship
Were the rule of the day

God sent Jeremiah
To the people of Judah
Who had
Turned their back on God

Jeremiah pointed out
To the people of his day
That we should worship God
And God alone

For his efforts
Jeremiah endured
Contempt and ridicule
Lost his family and friends
And even suffered attempts
On his life

Throughout time
God has sent us people
Abraham, Moses, and Elijah

Throughout time
God has sent us people
John the Baptist, Peter, and Paul

Throughout time
God has sent us people
Jesus Christ alone
The One who stands out
For all time

This world
Is lost today
Turning its back
On God

Making the wrong decisions
Time after time

Who is God sending today
Perhaps you
Perhaps me

Dear Lord God above
Please  Please  Please

SEND US SOME PEOPLE

LIVE WITH HOPE

Live with hope
Live with love
Live with God’s grace
In your heart

Let the world
See your smile
Let the world know
No matter
What the world throws at you
It can’t take away
Your hope

Let the world see
That you are living
In something bigger than this world
Keep on
Living with hope
Someone might be watching
Someone might be listening

Live with hope
Live with love
Live with God’s grace
In your heart

Live with
God’s grace in your heart

SAINT JOHN OF GOD---patron Saint of the sick-hospitals
And of book sellers and printers
                                           1495-1550

Saint John of God
Was born in Portugal
And was founder of the Brothers Hospitallers

He joined the mercenaries
And fought for Spain
Against the French and Turks in Hungary

When he was in the army
He gave up ALL practice of religion
After the disbandment of his troop
He worked as a Shepherd

At the age of 40
He rededicated himself to God
And helping the poor

He suffered a period of “madness”
Running through the streets
Tearing out his hair
And giving away his Sacred books
From the bookstore where he sold them

His friends---most notably John of Avila
Calmed him down
And he rededicated himself
To the sick and the poor

He rented a house---
Filled it with sick poor people
And for over 10 years
Devoted himself to taking care of his patients

He had never-ending energy
But this was balanced by prayer

His final illness
Was brought on
When he saved a man from drowning
In a flood

He died at the age of 55
Before the altar at his hospital chapel

Today---he is known as the PATRON SAINT
Of the SICK---of HOSPITALS---and booksellers and printers

Today---March 8th---is his feast day

HE IS WITH US

MARCH 8th, 2012

HE IS WITH US

Jesus said
I am with you always
And I believe
He is

He is with us
With a hug
From our mother
He is with us
In a handshake
From a friend

He is with us

He is with us
When the sun comes up
In the morning

He is with us

He is with us
Even in the mourning
When a loved one leaves us

He is with us

He is with us
In a rainbow
In the sky

He is with us

He is with us
In the blooming
Of a flower

He is with us

He is with us
Even when our lives
Are turning out
All wrong

He is with us

He is
Teaching us a brand new song

Jesus said
I am with you always
And I believe he is

He is with us
