LIKE FLOWERS

People are like flowers
For that reason alone
We should shower them
With our love

Flowers differ
In their attractiveness
Some are striking
In their beauty
Like the rose
And the lily
But some are
Just ordinary
Like the violet

But all flowers
Give glory to God
By being what they are

So too with people
Some of us are beautiful
Some of us are brilliant
And some of us
Are just ordinary

Is that any reason
We should love anyone
Any less

Robert P. Wallman

Ps        Dedicated to Saint Theresa the Little flower
            Today-October 1st-Is her feast day

“The grass withers and the FLOWERS fall
But the word of God stands forever”                                            Isaiah 40:8

TESTIFYING WITH OUR BROKENNESS

Did you ever
Stop and think
That the biggest weakness
That we have
Is the BEST WAY
To give testimony to God

Saint Paul said,

“Three times I pleaded
With the Lord
To take it away from me  ( his affliction  )

But he said to me
“My grace is sufficient for you
For my power
Is made perfect in weakness”

“Therefore I will boast
All the more gladly
About my weaknesses
So that Christ’s power
Will rest in me”                                                                   2 Corinthians 12:8-9

Where is your weakness
Where is your brokenness
Can you say to the Lord

“I will bring the gifts
Of my brokenness to you

Dear God
Can you-will you
Use my brokenness to help others”

Our wounds and flaws
Are our gifts to others
IMAGINE THAT

The night before he died
Jesus himself prayed

“My Father
If it is possible
May this cup
Be taken from me

Yet NOT as I will
But as you will”                                                                            Matthew 26:39

Witnessing through his brokenness
And now recognized
As a source of HOPE to millions and millions

Where does your brokenness lie
Where is your source of hope
How can you be
A SOURCE of hope to others

All you have to do is pray,
“Dear Lord-use me”
And I guarantee you that he will

I myself
Have been broken physically
Since I am 22

I myself
Am broken financially
And often find
Too much month
At the end of the money

And as a young man
ALL I ever wanted
Was to have my own wife and children
But sadly-that did not happen

But I have a RELATIONSHIP with God
Many friends-BOTH women and men
And I am thankful
For ALL of you

What if
Through our very limitations
And struggles
COUPLED with our efforts to follow Jesus
We can offer hope to others

So I invite you
Wherever your brokenness may lie
To say this prayer with me

LOVING GOD
May this brokenness that we feel
Help us
To give compassion to others
And inspire HOPE for them
IN THEIR LIVES

In Jesus’ name-amen

THE LOST SOUL  Inside All Of Us

Inside each of us
Is a part of us
We don’t
Want to let go

Inside each of us
There is a part of us
We don’t want
Anyone else to know

Inside each of us
There is some part
Of us
That we are ashamed of
That we don’t want
To share with anyone else

That’s ok
As long as
We share it with God
God knows that part of us
That we don’t even
Want to admit to ourselves

God knows
So you may as well
Talk to him about it
God loves you anyway

God loves the good in us
God loves the bad
God loves
The part of you
That you share with the world
And God loves
The part inside of us
That is lost

God loves
The lost soul

Robert P. Wallman

Ps        “My people have been LOST sheep
             Their shepherds led them astray
And caused them to roam on the mountains

They wandered over mountain and hill
And forgot their own resting place”                                             Jeremiah 50:6

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep
              And loses one of them
Does he not leave the ninety-nine
              In the open country open
And go aster the LOST sheep
Until he finds it”                                                                      Luke 15:4

TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

How would you
Define an angel

The one word
That comes to my mind
Is “heavenly”

Beings that help us along
On life’s journey
Beings that assist us
In one way or another

Psalm 91:11 & 12 says,
“For he will command his angels
Concerning you
To guard you in ALL your ways
They will lift you up
In their hands
So that you will
NOT strike your foot
Against a stone”

HEAVENLY---to be sure

I have had
Many earthly angels in my life
My parents---my two sisters
Other family members and friends
To HELP me along the way

I know
I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this
If not for them

But there are angels
From heaven
That God has actually used
To deliver messages

We know
That the angel Gabriel
Appeared to Zachariah
At the birth of John the Baptist

And above all
We know that he appeared to Mary
To ask her
To be THE MOTHER OF GOD

TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

Then we have Saint Michael
OUR defender and protector
TO HELP US
Against the wickedness and the snares of the devil

Michael appears to us
IN the book of Daniel
As the special GUARDIAN AND PROTECTOR of Israel

And in the book of Revelation
As the PRINCIPAL fighter for God
In the fight
Between good and evil

Michael’s POWER is so strong
That it is believed
That souls can be rescued
Even from hell itself

May we ALL be so lucky

Finally we have the angel Raphael
Named in the book of Tobit

Raphael’s name means,
“GOD HAS HEALED”

My wish for ALL of you:

IS that you be TOUCHED by many beings
Both heavenly and earthly
To help you
On life’s journey

And that you feel
God’s love and presence---SO STRONG---
Inside of you
That you Know
That you have been BLESSED by God
And that indeed---you have been

                          TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

JUST THINK

Just think
Of all the people
God could have created
GOD CREATED YOU

There is NO ONE
In this world
Exactly like you

There is no one
In this world
With your exact looks
Your exact personality
And your traits

You are unique
There is ONLY ONE you
You are someone special
In this world

God loves you-for WHO you are

Robert P. Wallman

Ps        “For everything God CREATED is good
And nothing is to be rejected
If it is received with thanksgiving”                                         1 Timothy 4:4

“Father I want those you have given me
To be with me where I am
             And to see my glory
The glory that you have given me
             Because you loved me
Before the CREATION of the world”                                   John 17:24

ROOTED IN GOD

Rooted in God
Rooted in love
Rooted in all things
From God above

Rooted in kindness
Rooted in friendship
Rooted in all things
From God above

Rooted in mercy
Rooted in forgiveness
Rooted in all things
From God above

Rooted in caring
Rooted in sharing
Rooted in all things
From God above

Rooted in love
Rooted in God
Rooted in all things
From God above

Robert P. Wallman
6-21-06

Ps        A ROOT is the part of the plant that anchors it and absorbs
Nutrients and moisture; a plant CANNOT exist without its
Root;  WE CANNOT EXIST fruitfully without God

“For the love of money is a ROOT of all kinds of evil
Some people-eager for money-have wandered from the faith
And pierced themselves with many griefs”                                        1 Timothy 6:10

Without Christ

As Jesus
Got closer and closer
To his destiny
And his teaching
Got harder and harder
Many of his disciples
Walked away

I wonder
If they lived
Happy and fulfilled lives

I wonder
If they found solace
In money
If that replaced our Lord
I wonder
If they found happiness
In being accepted by society
If that replaced
The teaching of our Lord

Dear God
Please help us
To always be
Like Saint Peter who said
“To whom shall we go Lord
You have the words
Of everlasting life”

If we left our Lord
Where would we go
For truth

If we left our Lord
Would we still live
By the golden rule

And what about death
How could we face death
Without God and Christ in our lives

Our Lord
Is our model
He is
Our standard for living

Of course
We will come up short
If we compare ourselves
To our Lord

But death
Will be our loveliest moment
Because
Our Lord did indeed
Possess the words of eternal life

Lord
We ask you for the courage
To never run away
From you

And be
Like Saint Francis and say
“Welcome Sister Death”

For with Christ
We are never lost

A CHARITABLE HEART---THE STORY OF SAINT VINCENT DePAUL

I am sure
You have heard the saying:
“Charity begins at home”

I am here to tell you
That that is NOT true

It is not true today
Was not true yesterday
And will never ever be true

Saint Vincent DePaul
Was born in to a peasant family
Was educated by the Franciscans
And became a priest
At the age of 19

His following
Consisted of people
Who were rich and fashionable
Yet Vincent himself
Was utterly devoted to the poor and oppressed

A heart of compassion
A heart of charity
A heart of love

He founded
A congregation of priests
Who would live from a community fund
Renounce all church support
And work to help reestablish faith
In the smaller towns and villages

In that same year---1625
He established the Sisters of Charity
The first congregation of “unenclosed” women
Totally devoted to the poor and the sick

He was a LEGEND
Even in his own lifetime

He touched all people
Clergy and lay people alike
Rich and poor
Outcasts and convicts

A CHARITABLE HEART to be sure

Legend has it
That EVEN NOW---almost 600 years later---after his death
That his physical heart has NOT decayed---is still incorrupt

So we need no further testimony
Than God himself
About the charity---about the heart
Of a man named Vincent DePaul

Like the saying goes,
“It is what is inside that counts”

Dear Lord---we pray
That we may have ALL have
The HEART OF
The love of
The compassion of ---and

THE CHARITY OF SAINT VINCENT DePAUL

TEARS AND SADNESS
TURNED TO JOY AND GLADNESS

My tears and sadness
Have been turned to
Tears of joy and gladness

How did it happen
By faith
By faith in God
By remaining patient in God
All through the storm

Nothing changed on
The outside of me
But something changed within
My tears and sadness
Have been turned to
Tears of joy and gladness

How did it happen
By faith
By faith in God
By remaining in God
All through the storm

Tears and sadness
Turned to
Tears of joy and gladness

Changed by God
Changed by faith
Changed forever more

ps        “For as I have often told you before
And now say again even with TEARS
Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ”                   Philippians 3:18

            “Those who sow in TEARS
Will reap with songs of joy”                                         Psalm 126:5

“And God will wipe away every TEAR
              From their eyes”                                                            Revelations 7:17

LIVING FROM THE INSIDE OUT

I am
Living from the inside out
I am
Letting God’s love
Turn me all around
I am
Letting God’s love
Turn me every which way
But down

I am
Living on God’s love
I am
Living inside out

Inside out
Is the way
I want to live
Inside out
Is the way
I want to give
Inside out
I want to give
All that’s in me

Inside out
I just
Want to live
Inside out
I just
Want to give you
The love that God gave to me

I just want to live
Inside out

Robert P. Wallman

Ps        “You TURN things upside down
As if the potter were thought to be
              Like the clay

Shall what is formed say to him
              Who formed it
              “He did not make me”
Can the pot say of the potter
              “He knows nothing”                                                              Isaiah 29:16

“You TURNED my wailing into dancing
                You removed my sackcloth
And clothed me with joy”                                                   Psalm 30:11

              “Remember this
                Whoever TURNS a sinner
From the error of his way
                Will save him from death
And cover over a multitude of sins”                                       James 5:20

THE TREE OF LIFE

“I am the vine
You are the branches”

THE TREE OF LIFE

You can only grow spiritually
And in truth
If your yoke is truly tied
To the person of Jesus Christ

The one
From whom
ALL CREATION COMES

THE WORDS OF LIFE
THE TREE OF LIFE

In that famous XVIII chapter
Of Saint John
He basically tells us
That apart from him-Christ
SPIRITUALLY-we can do nothing

“I am the vine
You are the branches
If a man remains in me
And I in him
He will bear much fruit
Apart from me
You can do nothing”                                               John 15:5

THE WORDS OF LIFE
THE TREE OF LIFE

The gift of knowledge
The gift of life
The words of life

And the Lord
Made all kinds of trees
Grow out of the ground
Trees that were pleasing to the eye
And good for food

In the middle
Of the garden
Was the TREE OF LIFE
And the tree of knowledge
Of good and evil”                                                 Genesis 2:9

How great would that be
To always KNOW the difference
Between good and evil—AND DO GOOD

But that is what CHRIST came to do
To impart that knowledge
On to us
And to leave it-that knowledge-inside of us
Living inside of us/you and me

Live in Christ
On the WORDS of Jesus Christ
And you will
NEVER be found wanting

He will be living you
And you/me will be LIVING IN HIM

And you will have found
THE TREE OF LIFE

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER
LIFE WILL BRING YOU TO YOUR KNEES

It may be health
It may be money
It may be
Trying to be someone
You are not supposed to be
One way or another
Life will bring you
To your knees

You might not think it
But in that time
Is your opportunity
To find God
And to find yourself

Because I have been there
And that was the only place
For me to find true happiness
There just wasn’t anyone
Or anything else

It may be health
It may be money
It may be trying to be someone
That you are not

Someone that you shouldn’t be
One way or another
Life will bring
To your knees

That just might be
Your opportunity
To find God
To find peace
Inside of yourself
While you are down
On your knees

Robert P. Wallman
6-23-06

Ps        “If you seek him he will be FOUND by you
But if you forsake him-he will reject you forever”          1 Chronicles 28:9
                                                                                                 ( David to his son-Solomon )

“But if from there you seek the Lord your God
You will FIND him if you look for him
With all you heart and with all your soul”                        Deuteronomy 4:29

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me
For I am gentle and humble in heart
And you will FIND rest for your souls

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”                   Matthew 11:29-30

CARRYING ANOTHER’S BURDENS

Have you ever
Tried to help another human being

I mean really help someone
NOT just giving lip service

Whether it be family, friend
Or a virtual stranger

We ALL need help
At one time or another

It may be
Because of health difficulties
It may be
Because of financial problems or obligations
A lost job---mitigating circumstances
Broken relationships within a family
Or with a very close friend

In any case
We need help---we can’t do it alone
Because we are fighting heavy battles
And we are losing

It may surprise you to know
That OUR LORD knows this
It wasn’t any different 2000 years ago

Jesus saw this
And with a compassionate loving heart
He said,

“Come to me
All you who are weary and heavy burdened
And I will give you rest
Take my yoke upon you
And learn from me
For I am gentle and humble of heart
And you will find rest
For your souls

For my yoke is easy
And my burden is light”                                           Matthew 11:28-30

A yoke is the instrument
That binds 2 animals together

Maybe you have
So many problems
That you feel
You have nothing left
To help someone else

Maybe you have
So many burdens
That you feel
Nothing and no one can help you

I have some news for you
Jesus can

He carried
The weight of the world
Some 2000 years ago
I thin he is quite capable
Of carrying yours and my burdens

We live
In a world
Full of selfishness
Becoming more and more so
Each day

“What the world needs now
Is love---sweet love
It is the only thing
That there is just too little of”                                              from a song many years ago

Tiredness of body---come to me
Weakness of soul and spirit---come to me

Jesus says,

“Come to me
Let me help you
Carry your burdens”

He can carry burdens
And solve problems
That we never can
Maybe
Burdens and problems that we
Were never intended to carry

Moses believed in God’s promises
Abraham believed
The Blessed Mother---Mary---believed

“I am the Lord’s servant
may it be done to me
According to your Word”                                           Luke 1:38

Do you believe
Do I believe

Your problems my be great
My problems may be great

They are NOT insurmountable

“And we know
That in all things
God works for the good
Of those who love him”                                              Romans 8:28

Maybe we can’t
Carry another’s burdens
Maybe we can’t even
Carry our own

But God says---Christ says,
“I can”
He says,
“Tie your yoke to me”

He says the most appealing words
Ever heard
This side of paradise---

---“COME TO ME”
And you will find REST for your souls

LINGERING SINS-GOSSIP

There once was a woman
With a physical handicap
She is still the same now
As she was twelve years ago

What about our sins
Are our sins
The same today
As they were 12 years ago

No one
Stays the same
Are we improving
Or are we regressing

Once
There was a woman
Who gossiped

When she went to confession
The Catholic priest
Told her to go to the market place
And buy a chicken
What an easy penance
She thought

Then the Catholic priest
Told her
To pluck the chicken
And spread the feathers everywhere

Strange-she thought
But she did this too

Then the priest told her
To go and gather the feathers
And put them
Back on the chicken

“I can’t do that Father,” she said
“The feathers are everywhere”

“Exactly,” the priest said
“This is what happens
When you talk about someone”

What about my lingering sins
What about
Your lingering sins

Where are we
In relationship
To where we were
Twelve years ago

ARE WE IMPROVING

Robert P. Wallman
5-10-10

Ps       *Based on the teaching of Father Leo Clifford

“A GOSSIP betrays a confidence
But a trustworthy man keeps a secret”                                                   Proverbs 11:13

“For I am afraid that when I come
I may not find you as I want you
And you may not find me as you
Want me to be

I fear that there may be quarreling,
Jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions,
Slander, GOSSIP, arrogance, and disorder”                                          2 Corinthians 12:20

“A perverse man stirs up dissension
And a GOSSIP separates close friends”                                         Proverbs 16:28

ENDURANCE---THE LONG HAUL

Where are you
In your personal relationship with God
Are your enduring
The trials of your life

Are you loving God
Despite the troubles in your life
Are you letting him
Love you

“For everything
That was written in the past
So that through ENDURANCE
And the encouragement of the scriptures
We might have HOPE”                                                               Romans 15:4

We are going to have problems
In this life
Of that we can be sure
So we may as well
Stick to God
So he can be there for us
And we can be there
For one another

Turning our troubles
Into blessings
Turning our problems into HOPE

“May the God
Who gives ENDURANCE and encouragement
Give you a spirit of unity
Among yourselves
As you follow Christ Jesus

So that with one heart and mouth
You may glorify the God and Father
Of our Lord Jesus Christ”                                                   Romans 15;5 & 6

Be in it
With God
Be in it
For the long haul

ENDURE means
To carry us through
Despite our hardships

God is BUILDING
Something in you
A LIFE THAT WILL LAST
Long after you have left
This world

For you are ROCK
You have built your life
On the WORD OF GOD
NOT the word
Of man

You-me-us-
We are in it
For the long haul

NOT transitory rewards

Dear Lord
We pray for a life
BUILT on your word
A life that will last

For we KNOW
That righteousness and love ENDURES forever

“He has scattered abroad
His gifts to the poor
His righteousness ENDURES forever
His horn will be lifted high in honor”                                                           Isaiah 112:9

“Give thanks to the Lord
For he is GOOD
His life ENDURES FOREVER”                                                      Psalm 136:1

So we know
That if we build our lives
On the WORD OF GOD

Our lives and love
Will ENDURE for the LONG HAUL
Our lives will LAST FOREVER

THE LIFE OF PADRE PIO

He was born May 25th, 1887
In Italy
The only Catholic priest in history
To bear the stigmata---the 5 wounds of Christ

He was given many gifts by God
Discernment of spirit, prophecy, healing
And as a powerful intercessor for us
Before our God

He was
One of the remarkable men
Of the 2oth century
A man with great faith
And spirituality

“Truly I say to you
Ask and it will be given to you
Seek and you shall find
Knock and
It will be open to you”

In the name of Father Padre Pio
We pray for you
To change
Each of us individually
All of us collectively
And return our world to God

“Truly I say to you
If you ask anything of the Father
In my name
He will give it to you”

Padre Pio labored endlessly
For the SALVATION of souls

“Truly I say to you
Heaven and earth will pass away
But my words
Will pass away”

Padre Pio
Was carried home to his heavenly Father---all our Fathers
On September 23rd, 1968
He was canonized as a Saint on June 16th, 2002
By John Paul II

Dear Lord-----I pray------we pray
To help us imitate his example of holiness and compassion
And one day---if it be your HOLY WILL
Spend eternity with him and you

“This life is short
The rewards for what we achieve
Are eternal”                                                                                    Padre Pio

And Dear Lord
We pray---that as Padre Pio lived out his life
On your words---that we do the same

In Jesus’ name---we pray

THE SPIRIT OF GOD

The spirit of God
Lives in you
The spirit of God
Lives in me
Too

It lives in us
In the fruit
Of the spirit

It lives in us
In love
It lives in us

It lives in us
In peace
It lives in us
In patience

It lives in us
In the fruit
Of the spirit

It lives on in us
In goodness
It lives on in us
In our faithfulness

It lives in us
In the fruit
Of the spirit

It lives on in us
In gentleness
It lives on in us
In our self-control

It lives on in us
In love
It lives on in us
In the fruit
Of the spirit

The spirit of God
Lives in you
The spirit of God
Lives in me

Lives on in us
In love

Who raised Jesus from the dead
              Is living in you
He who raised Christ from the dead
Will also give life to your mortal bodies
Through the SPIRIT who lives in you”                        Romans 8:11

Ps        “Children-obey your parents in everything
             For this pleases the Lord

Fathers ( parents )- do not embitter your children
Or they will become discouraged”                                       Colossians 3-20-21

“If anyone does not provide for his relatives
             And especially his immediate family
             He has denied the faith
And is worse than an unbeliever”                                         1 Timothy 5:8

HONEY---THE TAX MAN IS HERE
( or the story of Saint Matthew )

“Honey---
The tax man is here”

How many of us
Like to hear those words

Or how many of us
Like getting a letter
From the IRS in the mail
Or going downtown for an audit

This is the story of Saint Matthew
Originally called Levi
A tax collector of the Jewish people
Who worked for the Roman government

One day
Jesus met Matthew
At his tax collector’s booth
And said, “follow me”

One night---while having dinner at Matthew’s house
And many of his tax collector friends
Some of the teachers of Jewish law
Were asking his disciples,
“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners”

Jesus heard about the conversation, and said,
“It is not the healthy who need a Doctor
But the sick
I have not come to call the righteous---but sinners”                                 Mark 2:16&17

Good for the Apostles
And very good for us

It is believed
That after the Resurrection
That Matthew went on
To preach the Word of God
Either in Ethiopia or Persia

And it is believed
That Matthew wrote his Gospel
From Antioch
Primarily to the Jews
But also to Gentiles and Christians

As an original Apostle
He gave us an eyewitness account

Jesus speaks more
In Matthew’s Gospel
Than in any of the other Gospels
And Matthew quotes
From many of the Old Testament books
To prove that Jesus certainly is
The “Fulfillment”---The Anointed One

Matthew traces the genealogy of Jesus
Describes Jesus’ temptation in the desert
And concludes his Gospel
With the calling of the GREAT COMMISSION
To all believers

Matthew teaches us
That the standards of God are high
And that the example that he---God---gave us
Is perfect---Jesus Christ

And Matthew teaches us
That Christ is sufficient
For whatever need we might have
And that the ways of God
Are infinitely higher
Than the ways of this world

Saint Matthew
Died a martyr’s death

September 21st is his feast day

GOD CHANGED MY HEART

I have seen
Many miracles in my life
But the greatest miracle
I have ever seen
Is the miracle
That is taking place
Within me

God changed my heart
He gave me a brand new start
God changed my heart

God changed my heart

God changed me
From thinking I was a failure
Based on the world’s thinking
Sex, money, and violence

God changed my heart

God changed my way of thinking
That the man (or woman)
Who is a success
Is based on
Love, kindness, and forgiveness

God changed my heart

I have seen many miracles in my life
But the greatest miracle
I ever did see
Was the one
That took place within me

God changed my heart

Ps        “Listen, I tell you a mystery
             We will not all sleep
But we will all be CHANGED-in a flash
In the twinkling of an eye
              At the last trumpet

             For the trumpet will sound
The dead will be raised imperishable
And we will be CHANGED”                                       1 Corinthians 15:51-52

WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR PEACE

Finding peace in God
Finding peace in you
That’s all I know
That’s all I want to do

Where do you try
To find your peace
Is it in money
Is it in sex
Is it in
The miracles of science
If it is
You are going to be looking for a long time

Finding peace in God
Finding peace in you
That’s all I know
That’s all I want to do

You can’t find peace in money
You can’t find peace in sex
You can’t find peace
In drugs, alcohol or pornography
You can’t find peace in anything else in this world

You can only find peace in God
And by loving and forgiving others
And in order to do this
You must look deep inside of you

Ps       “Keep your tongue from evil
And your lips from speaking lies
Turn from evil and do good
Seek PEACE and pursue it”                                                             Psalm 34:13-14

           “PEACE I leave with you
My Peace I give to you
I do not give to you
            As the world gives
Do NOT let your hearts be troubled
And do NOT be afraid”                                                                       John 14:27

            “And the PEACE of God
             Which transcends all understanding
Will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”                          Philippians 4:7
