MOST of the psalms are addressed directly to God-but psalm in 103-the psalmist is speaking
DIRECTLY to his own soul

A person't soul is a VERY PERSONAL matter between them and God-bit it begs a question
that we ALL need to ask:  "my soul-have you found what you are looking for?"

WE will all be constantly searching UNTIL we REST in GOD

IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us!

Our justification

JUSTIFICATION means
To be FREED from guilt or blame
BY FAITH




God is for us
He lived for us
He died for us

God is FOR US
And our hope
Comes from God alone

The gift of knowledge
The gift of life
The words of life


And the Lord
Made all kinds of trees
Grow out of the ground
Trees that were pleasing to the eye
And good for food


In the middle

Was the TREE OF LIFE
And the tree of knowledge
Of good and evil” Genesis 2:9


How great would that be
To always KNOW the difference
Between good and evil—AND DO GOOD


But that is what CHRIST came to do
To impart that knowledge
On to us
And to leave it-that knowledge-inside of us

There are MANY different types of prayers-adoration-thanksgiving-contrition-and petition

PETITION prayers-when they are not answered affirmatively and right away-often seem to disappoint us

Dear Lord-WE ASK that you teach us to pray like Jesus in that we say "THY WILL BE DONE"
ALL PRAYER is answered according to GOD'S WILL for our lives

I don't KNOW WHY-but most of us need to be COMPLETELY BROKEN before we turn
over our lives to God-at least that is the way it was with me

DEAR LORD-we pray that that those who need HEALING and PEACE-will turn to you
-and that you will RENEW their SOUL AND SPIRIT

THE BIGGEST TRAGEDY




We all face tragedies in life


Loss of love ones
Our own health problems and mortality
Financial pressures
And relationship problems


But I think
The biggest tragedy in life
Is to live our entire life
Without developing a personal relationship
With our God---with our Creator


So many of us
Live our entire lives
Without getting to know God


What could be sadder than that


In other words
We become exiled from God
By our own choosing


But for those of us
Who take the time
To get to know God
Who share the best part
Of ourselves with our Creator


The worst part of ourselves
With our creator


ALL of ourselves with our God
The rewards are NEVER ENDING


Our heart will be
Forever restless
Until we rest in you Oh Lord


“I know
That my Redeemer lives
And that in the end
He will stand upon the earth” Job 19:25


For if we
Do not share our lives
With our God
When we do face the tragedies
Of this world
Death-illness-financial ruin
Who will we run to


Will we run away
From God
When things get tough
Or will we
Run towards God


Like Peter said to Christ,
“Where would we run to
You possess the words of eternal life” John 6:68-69


So when you
Face the tragedies
Of your life
Turn towards God
Not away from him


Don’t compound the tragedy


Turn towards God
Become even closer


KNOW him
LOVE him
SERVE him
And let him serve you


For God says,
“I will strengthen you
And help you
I will uphold you
With my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10


Don’t turn away
TURN TOWARDS


Don’t commit the biggest tragedy
Commit the BIGGEST ACT OF FAITH
Turn towards God


And your tragedies
Will turn into blessings


“BLESSINGS crown
The head of the righteous” Proverbs 10:6


“I will BLESS them
And the places surrounding my hill
I will send down showers in season
There will be SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS” Ezekiel 34:26


So when you face the tragedies of your life
Turn towards God with faith
And your biggest tragedies
Will turn into BLESSINGS

One of the things that Jesus talked about and probably ONE of the hardest thing to do is to FORGIVE
when someone wrongs us

OUR natural inclinations are to strike back to seek revenge and to HOLD a grudge

Dear Lord we thank you for the forgiveness and MERCY that you show us and we PRAY that
 we are PASS  it ALONG to others

The great thing about forgiveness
Is that
You cannot earn it
It is freely given
To you by God

Esau forgives Jacob
Even after he steals his birthright


Joseph forgives his brothers
After they left him for dead


Stephen---the first Christian martyr
Forgave those who stoned him including Saul


And the loving father
Forgives his long lost son
After he squandered everything
That he had


And then their is
The forgiveness of God


“If you, Oh Lord, kept a record
Of sins, oh Lord, who could stand
But with you there is forgiveness
Therefore you are feared” Psalm 130:4


And


“Who is a God like you
Who pardons sins and forgives
The transgression of the remnant of his inheritance
You do not stay angry forever
But delight to show mercy” Micah 7:18


How often should we forgive
Our brothers and sisters

Surely that is more than generous


“I tell you---not seven times
But 70 times 7 times,” Jesus said Matthew 18:22


“Father forgive them---for they know not

journal/THE ROCK

TODAY we celebrate the feast of THE CHAIR of Saint Peter-THE ALL TOO HUMAN ROCK
-just like us

He lost faith and had to be rescued when he tried to walk on water
He was rebuked by Christ on more than one occasion
AND FINALLY-in Christ's time of GREATEST NEED-he denied him three times

It makes us wonder WHAT did Christ see in this so-called ROCK

MAYBE it was HIS heart and GENUINE LOVE FOR OTHERS

DEAR LORD- we pray that our love for GOD AND CHRIST may be STRONG
just like Peter's-and help us to KNOW that it is not the QUALIFIED that GOD CALLS
-BUT he qualifies the CALLED












THE ROCK






“And I tell you
That you are Peter
And on this rock
I will build my church
And the gates of hell
Will NOT overcome it” Matthew 16:18


ROCK---something solid
Something that can’t be moved
By anything
Rock---the ONE who won’t fail you


But like us
Peter---the rock
Did fail Jesus---AT FIRST


“Get behind me Satan
You are an obstacle to me
You are thinking
NOT as God does
But as human beings do” Matthew 16:23


And we know
That Peter denied Christ three times
And then went outside
And wept bitterly in shame


The good news for Peter
For us
Is that the story
Does NOT END there


Peter later preached in Rome
And wrote two epistles


In his epistles---his letters
To the early church


Peter tried to encourage
The early Christian believers
To remain strong
Despite their suffering


Peter encourages believers
To count it as a privilege
To suffer For the sake of Christ


He tells us to “rejoice”
When Satan and the world
Aim to hurt you


He tells us
That the ASSURANCE of eternal life
Is given to all Christians


The Word of the Lord
STANDS FOREVER


We know
That Peter denied the Lord 3 times
Bud did you know that
After the Resurrection
He AFFIRMED Christ 3 times


Jesus said to Simon Peter,


“Simon---son of John
Do you truly love me
More than these?”


“Yes Lord,” he said, “You know that I do “
“Feed my lambs,” Jesus said


Jesus asked again,


“Simon, son of John,
Do you truly love me?”
“Yes Lord, you know that I love you,” Peter answered
“Take care of my sheep,” Jesus said


A third time, Jesus said,


“Simon, son of John do you love me?”
Peter was hurt that Jesus asked a third time and said,
“Lord---you know ALL things
You know that I love you”
Jesus said,
“Feed my sheep” John 21:15:through 17


Once Jesus asked Peter,


“But what about you
Who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:15


And Peter responded,


“You are the Christ
The Son of the Living God” Matthew 16:18


In he end---Peter had so much faith
He was crucified upside down
For preaching the Word of God ( Peter did not feel WORTHY to be crucified
Like Christ )

WE ARE NEVER ALONE

WE ARE NEVER ALONE




This world
Often sets
IMPOSSIBLE STANDARDS for us


It tells us
That we should
LOOK like the guy or the girl
On the television commercials
(and our mate should look like that too)
Or we should be driving
That brand new luxury model car


BARELY possible goals
For some of us
IMPOSSIBLE for those of you
Like me-AVERAGE


And sometimes
This leaves us
FEELING like we are alone
Like we are the ONLY ONE
Who can't
Live up to these standards


But the truth is
WE ARE NEVER ALONE


GOD CHOOSES you and me


For GOD
Is our shield


“To him
WHO alone does GREAT wonders


HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER” Psalm 136:4


And for those of us
Who are chasing God
OVER the things
Of this world


God tells us
NOT to worry


The psalmist tells us,


“But you (God)
Are a SHIELD around me
O Lord


You bestow glory
On me
And lift up my head” Psalm 3:3


Our Lord and God
PROTECTS


WEARE NEVER LONE


The world tells us
That in hopeless situations
To give up
It says,


“You can't do this
with your own resources
So you might as well
Give up”


But GOD tells us,


“You don't have to
DO IT ALONE


You have to give up
And LEAN on me”


So if you get
A bad health diagnosis
That says
You can't get better


If you don't
Have Enough funds
To buy that beautiful car


If you don't
Look like MR. GQ
Or aren't a perfect ten


GOD TELLS US
We still matter


God tells us
WE ARE NEVER ALONE


GOD is our shield


“The Lord is my STRENGTH
And my SHIELD


My heart trusts in him
And I am helped


My heart
Leaps for joy
And I will give thanks
To him-in song” Psalm 28:7


So the next time
The world tells you
That big lie
Sets you up
For that impossible standard


REASSURE yourself DAILY
Based on the evidence
That GOD-and OTHERS are with you


And that
WE ARE NEVER ALONE

THEY just didn't get it-THE APOSTLES AND DISCIPLES of their day

SOMETIMES I wonder IF we are any better at getting it today

THEN one day Peter stands up and says Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah
But Jesus tells him and them that he MUST "suffer greatly" and die

FOR the Apostles and for us-the concepts of "suffering" and "MESSIAH" don't go together
They couldn't GRASP the WHY of this for JESUS-For being great comes from servanthood and
humility-I DON'T know why-but that IS what he did and how he died-and WHAT he taught us

IT IS a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us

BE AN EXAMPLE




For us Christians
Jesus Christ
Is the perfect example
Of how we are to live
A perfect life


If we believe in him
If we believe in our Christianity
We have but one mission in our life


And that is
To take something from his very own life
And make it
COME ALIVE in our very own lives


In other words
BE AN EXAMPLE to other Christians
In today’s world


“Do everything
Without complaining or arguing
So that
You may become blameless and pure


CHILDREN OF GOD without fault
In a crooked and depraved generation
In which you shine like stars
In the universe
As you hold out
THE WORD OF LIFE” 2 Philippians: 14 & 15


As Christ
Was our example
Be an example- for others


Be joyful in HOPE
And PATIENT in affliction and in sorrow


These are our crosses
And if
We unite them with Christ’s own sufferings
We can still create a beautiful life
Despite the crosses-that we may carry


Look at JOB
He was an example


“Brothers-as an example of patience
In the face of suffering
Take the prophets
Who spoke
In the name of the Lord


As you know
We consider blessed
Those who have PERSEVERED


You have
Heard of Job’s perseverance
And have seen
What the Lord finally brought about


The Lord is
FULL OF COMPASSION AND MERCY” James 5:10-11


And so dear Lord-we pray
That as Christ was our example


We pray
That we may strengthen our resolve
To do God’s will
And be an example
To others who may be suffering


Teach us
To reach out to you in our needs
And be an example
To others who may be suffering
Just as your Son-Jesus Christ
Is THE EXAMPLE to us

ANGER MANAGEMENT




One of the
Most wasted emotions
That we have is anger


We get angry
We tell someone off
We write someone
A nasty letter


For what
A split moment to feel better


But it almost
NEVER changes anything-long-term


But what about God
What does God
Do with his anger
When we disappoint him


God told Moses,


“The Lord, The Lord
The compassionate and gracious God
Slow to anger-abounding in love
And faithfulness
Maintaining love to thousands
And forgiving wickedness, rebelliousness, and sin” Exodus 34:6 & 7


Maybe that’s what the Lord
Wants us to do-forgive wickedness


Maybe we are first
To go to our brother and sister
And talk with them


“Therefore
If you are offering your gift
At the altar
And there remember
That your brother
Has something against you
Leave your gift there
In front of the altar


First go
And be reconciled to your brother
Then come and offer your gift’’ Matthew 5:23 & 24


And if
You have already tried this
And the person
Proved themselves unreasonable


I suggest
You pray for them
For God
To change their heart
And do your best
To AVOID them


Anger is
A POWERFUL emotion
But if
We truly forgive the other person
We can move
Closer to becoming a better person
And move
CLOSER TO GOD


I am NOT saying
Do not feel anger
But I am saying
Temper your anger with mercy


“The Lord
Is compassionate and gracious
Slow to anger
ABOUNDING IN LOVE” Psalm 103:8


I am saying
Before you blast someone verbally
Before you fire off
An e-mail
Or write a nasty letter


Think of what
The Lord would do


“This is how we should pray

ARE YOU JOYFUL










Are you a joyful person
Before you say yes
Think about it


Are you joyful
Even when your health is falling apart
Are you joyful
When you don’t have enough money in the bank
To pay your bills


Are you joyful
When your relationship
With your significant other
Is falling apart
Or when your personal relationships
Are not what they were---
Or what they used to be


If you and I can truly say yes to this question
When our lives are falling apart
Then we are truly
Living in the spirit of God


Someone once said,
“Joy is the infallible sign
Of GOD’S PRESENCE
In your life”


Joy is one of the aspects
And is a sign
That God’s word---GOD’S SPIRIT
Is alive in us


That joy is evident

In Jesus’ life

The COMPASSION that he showed

To those in need---the healing

Always making himself AVAILABLE to others

And Jesus

Teaches us that joy comes from servant hood

Even with impending crucifixion and death

He gets down on his hands and knees

And washes his disciples feet

So they would be made clean

JOY

Having a servant’s heart

Worthy of the Lord

Is a choice


Either a conscious choice
Or a subconscious choice
Which is a REFLECTION
Of our inner attitudes and values


WE choose our mates
We choose our career
And we choose our religion


In truth
We even choose LIFE
Or death by our own actions
In some circumstances


And we choose
IF we have an after life
By whether or not
We KEEP the ten commandments
Or what Jesus told us
Were the two GREATEST commandments


LOVE OF GOD
And LOVE OF OTHERS


CHOOSE life
CHOOSE PERFORMANCE
CHOOSE being a representative
Of God


“This day
I call heaven and earth
As witnesses against you


That I have set before you
BLESSINGS and curses
LIFE and death


NOW CHOOSE LIFE
So that you

And just as it is true
IF we prepare properly
We are GOOD at a career


And train properly
We can be GOOD at athletics


IT IS TRUE
That we can be REPRESENTATIVES of God
If we prepare and are TRUE to GOD’S WORD


PERFORMANCE is a choice
Being a representative
Of God
IS A CHOICE


And God CHOSE us
Even before
We had the opportunity to choose him


“You did not choose me
But I chose you
And appointed you
To go
And BEAR FRUIT-
FRUIT THAT WILL LAST


Then the FATHER
Will give you
Whatever you ask in my name

And he SHOWED us
HOW to live perfectly in life
In life-and in DEATH


So Christ told us
And showed us
As did Saint Francis
Who bore the wounds of Christ
In the stigmata-on HIS BODY


And Saint Francis told us
“SPEAK the gospel
At ALL times
And USE words if necessary”


So to perform for God
Is a choice
OUR CHOICE


Performance includes actions
OUR ACTIONS


REMEMBER-your performance
In your job requires actions


As does
BELIEF IN GOD

Did you KNOW-That Jesus
BEFORE he was hailed
As God's SON
Was a servant to all


In Mark 10-it says


“For even

And to give his life
As a ransom for many” Mark 10:45


SO if
We are TRUE followers
Of Christ
TRUE followers of God
We are called TO SERVE
Not only in word
But in deed
In whatever way
We are capable of

Israel-GOD'S CHOSEN people
And called to SERVE

It seems sometimes
This life is set up
For us to stumble
Stumble and fall


Stumble on our health matters
Stumble on our financial matters
Stumble in our relationships


“Though he stumble, he will not fall

For the Lord upholds him

Sometimes we not only stumble
Sometimes we actually do fall


Jesus falls the first time


But he got back up
How about us
Are we going to get back up


“For to his angels
He has given command about you
That they guard you
In all your ways


Upon their hands
They shall bear you up
Lest you dash your foot against a stone” Psalm 91:11-12






We may stumble again
Maybe even fall a second time


Jesus did
Actually fell a second time---but he got back up
How about us


Are we going to get back up


And as angels hold us up
We are to help others,


“We who are strong
Ought to bear
With the failings of the weak
Each of us
Should please his neighbor
For his good--- to build him up” Romans 15:1&2


Even with the help of angels
Even with the help of others
We may fall yet again


Jesus did
Jesus fell for even a third time


But his Father lifted him
One more time
To live with him for ALL of eternity


Success in life
Is getting back up
One more time
Than we get knocked down


God will
Bear you up
The angels
Will bear you up
Lest you dash your foot
Against a stone


“The stone
That the builders rejected
Has become the cornerstone” Psalm 118:22


“As you come to him---the living stone
Rejected by men
But chosen by God
And precious to him
You also---like living stones
Are being built into a spiritual house
To be a holy priesthood
Offering spiritual sacrifices
Acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” 1 Peter 2:4 & 5


By staying connected to God
By believing in Christ
Though we may stumble
Though we may fall


We---as believers---will be

TODAY is the world day for the sick-DEAR LORD-we pray FOR ALL THOSE experiencing illness-for a HEALING-and IF that is not possible for the GRACE AND YOUR LOVE to be ABLE to sustain their life

TODAY is also the feast day of OUR LADY OF LOURDES-a day for HEALING

HEALING AND FAITH








There are millions in this world
Who can heal a broken body
But only one---who can heal
A broken spirit---a broken soul


GOD


How would you describe healing
I would describe it
As a betterment
Of making one whole again


The one element
In ALL the miracles that Jesus did
Was that the person
Had great faith


In the 8^th and 9^th chapters
Of Saint Matthew’s Gospel
Matthew tells us about
Some of Jesus’ miracles


A centurion comes to Jesus and says,
“My servant lies at home paralyzed
And in terrible suffering”
Jesus says,
“I will go and heal him”


And the centurion responds,
“Lord I do not deserve
To have you come under my roof
But just say the word
And my servant will be healed”


Jesus becomes astonished and says,
“I tell you the truth
I have not found anyone in Israel
With such great faith…….”


Jesus continues,
“Go! It will be done
As you believed it would”


And the servant was healed


FAITH


A ruler came before Jesus, and said,
“My daughter has died
But come and put your hand on her
And she will live”


Jesus went to the ruler’s daughter, and said,
“Take her daughter
Your faith has healed you”


Many laughed at Jesus
Scoffed at him---mocked
Saying the girl was dead


Jesus said,
“Go away---The girl is not dead” Matthew chapter 9


FAITH


That is
Not so say
That if you are not healed
That you do not have enough faith


It just means
That God---Jesus
Might be using you/us in other ways
Maybe using our suffering
As intercessory prayer
Or accepting our suffering for others


THIS IS CALLED REDEMTIVE SUFFERING


The diseases of the body
Are one thing
But the diseases of the soul---the spirit
Are quite another


For every million out there
Who can heal a broken body
There is only one
Who can heal a broken soul


GOD


Dear Lord---we pray
Please heal our broken bodies
If it be your will


But more importantly
Heal our broken spirits
Heal our broken souls


Of each of us individually
Of each of us collectively
Of our broken society
And our broken world


And if we are to carry our suffering
Both physically and spiritually
Please help us to pray like Saint Paul:


“Three times
I pleaded with the Lord
To take it from me
But he said to me


My grace is sufficient for you
For my power is made perfect

Our Lady of Lourdes
Is a title for the Blessed Virgin Mary
Used by Roman Catholics
In honor of apparitions of Mary
And for many miracles
That are said to have occurred there
At Lourdes, France


On the evening
Of January 18^th, 1977
I developed a tremendous pain/ pressure
In my groin area
And I was admitted to the hospital
The next day


I WILL NEVER FORGET


I was rushed
To emergency surgery
The next day
With a perforated bowel


I WILL NEVER FORGET


The first apparition
Of Our Lady of Lourdes
Was made February 11^th, 1858
By Bernadette Soubirous
A 14-year-old peasant girl
Who admitted to her mother
That a “lady”
Spoke to her
In the cave of Massabielle
About a mile from her home


The apparition of the “lady”
Were reported
On seventeen further occasions
That year


After the surgery
I laid there
For two weeks
With tubes coming
Out of every orifice in my body
In a state between life and death


I WILL NEVER FORGET


The apparition
Asked Bernadette to dig in the ground
And drink
From the spring she found there
And she did


From that day onward
That spring
Has produced 27,000 gallons of water per week


My health
Took a turn for the worse
Dr. Christian was called in
To work on me
And Father Newell was called in
To administer the Sacrament for the Sick


My temperature
Reached as high as 108 degrees
And my blood count went down to three
And I had many blood transfusions


It looked like death was imminent


I WILL NEVER FORGET


Many miracles have occurred
At Our Lady of Lourdes
Some proven authentic miracles
And many not reported at all


The day
I walked out of the hospital
Was February 11^th, 1977
The day of the first reported vision
At Lourdes, France in 1858


I will testify FOR GOD
And give thanks TO GOD
For every day
Of the REST of my life

Salt and Light

Jesus told us
Your are the salt
Of the earth
You are the Light
Of the world

But what does
It mean
To be salt and light
In today’s world

2000 years ago
Salt was the principle seasoning
That was used to cook
2000 years ago
There was no electricity
So light was a scarcity
And at a premium

So how
Can we
How will we be
Light in today’s world
It can be as simple
As a smile
Or an encouraging word
To someone
Who is having a bad day

Or it can be
To have a listening ear
For someone
Who needs to be heard

It can be as simple
As sending someone
A birthday card or get well card
Or it could be
Visiting a sick neighbor
In the hospital

Maybe we can’t
Change the whole world
As Jesus did
But maybe
Just maybe
We can change someone’s world

TODAY is WORLD MARRIAGE DAY-at a time when divorce rates continue to hover around 50%-

MARRIED TO THE CHURCH




Growing up
AS a young man in Pittsburgh, Pa.
ALL I ever thought of
As I got older
Was going to college
Meeting a woman
That I very much loved
And raising a family


In other words-like many of us
I wanted to-pursue THE AMERICAN DREAM


Then came my 22^nd birthday
My first deathbed experience
And my promise to GOD:


“To live for my family
My friends
And ALL people everywhere”


About 2005 or 2006
I finally began to realize
That God had a different plan for me
Than I had for myself
A different plan for me
Than he had for most others


Like Jesus
I was to be committed
To God and the CHURCH


SO I FOLLOW CHRIST
AS MOST ALL of us do
As he is the Head of the Church


“For the husband
Is the head of the wife
As Christ is the head of the church
His body
Of which he is the Savior” Ephesians 5:23


“After all
No one ever hated his own body
But he feeds and cares for it
Just as Christ does the church-
For we are members of his body


‘For this reason
A man will leave
His father and mother
And be united to his wife
And the two
Will become one flesh’


This is a profound mystery
But I am talking about Christ and the church” Ephesians 5:32


So I believe I have
A different calling than you
Not better or worse-just different


I have a friend
I call her “Maggie”
And she is my sister in Christ
And my soul mate (a purely platonic relationship)


She says that she believes
That I was
Never meant to share my life
With just one woman
Because I can reach SO MANY


So Christ
Was married to the church
And he had Mary Magdalene


Following in his footsteps
In my own “little” way
I have my friend Maggie


I BELIEVE
The church to BE a FAMILY
And I believe in FAMILY UNITY
Both in the church
AND IN FAMILIES


UNITY IS SO PRECIOUS


I just don’t understand
HOW THE CHURCH
HAS BROKEN into so many pieces
As I don’t understand
HOW families break apart


Well-FOR what it is
I WILL REMAIN
Married to the church
And to my own PRECIOUS FAMILY


And most importantly
I will remain-COMMITED to my promise
And married to God
And PRAY that God
Will make something
Out of my life and yours


For we are all

WHAT WOULD YOU ASK FOR










As David was dying
He bestowed on his son, Solomon, his kingship


And he told his son-Solomon
To walk in the ways of the Lord
And to keep God’s laws and requirements
As written
In the book of Moses


And that
God would “keep his promise”
That someone from David’s descendants
Would always sit on the throne


After David does in fact die
The Lord appears to Solomon and says,


“Ask for whatever you want me
To give to you” 1 Kings 3:5


So Solomon asks for,


“A discerning heart
To govern your people
And to distinguish between right and wrong” 1 Kings 3:9


In other words---WISDOM


God was so pleased
With Solomon’s answer
That he bestows on him,
“Riches and honor
So that in your lifetime
You will have no equal among kings” 1 Kings 3:13


If you were Solomon
What would you have asked for


Basically, wisdom is practical insight
The skill of living successfully
And it begins
With FEAR OF THE LORD


In Solomon’s own words, he writes,


“The FEAR of the Lord
Is the beginning of knowledge
For fools despise wisdom and discipline” Proverbs 1:7


Unfortunately for Solomon
He made some bad choices with women


Is there any of us men
That can’t identify with that
At least once in our life


The Bible says
That he-Solomon-had over 700 wives
And as he grew older
He let his wives
Turn his heart toward other gods


And that his heart
Was NOT fully devoted
To the one true God
As his father-David’s-had been


So Solomon---As ADAM did before him
Chose to follow a woman over God


God becomes angry at Solomon
Because he DID NOT keep his covenant
With God
So God
Let’s his kingdom become divided


HOW MANY of us
Have become LOST in life
BOTH men and women
By becoming enamored with someone of the opposite sex
With a dubious reputation


So dear friends---like Solomon before us
We pray for WISDOM
But NOT just any wisdom


We pray for SPIRITUAL WISDOM
And the FAITH to see it through


“The man
Without the spirit
Does not accept the things
That come from the spirit of God
For they are foolishness to him
And he cannot understand them
Because they are spiritually discerned” 1 Corinthians 2:14


Dear Lord, humbly, we your people
Ask you for one more thing


That the SPIRIT OF GOD
BE PRESENT IN OUR LIVES

On them this year


It is MY ATTEMPT-at a NOT-FOR-PROFIT book and MY ATTEMPT to live
Up to the deathbed promise that I made to God-“to live for my family-friends-and
ALL people everywhere.”


I thank each and everyone of you for letting me send my writings to you
It GIVES me motivation and inspiration to KEEP ON LIVING FOR GOD,
FOR OTHERS, and for you and me-and to PROVE that GOD-that LOVE-
Is still ALIVE in today’s world-LIVING in you and me-
And LIVING in each KIND ACT that we do


Witnessing is entrusted by God to his BELIEVERS


JESUS was the ULTIMATE WITNESS-the ULTIMATE BELIEVER
And we-if we are believers
Are to follow in the footsteps of him-
And his apostles and his disciples


“He said to them-‘it is not for you to know the times or dates
The Father has set by his own authority


But you will receive POWER
When the Holy Spirit comes to you
And you will be my WITNESSES in Jerusalem
And in ALL Judea and Samaria
And to the ends of the earth” Acts 1:7 & 8


WITNESSING-with our hearts
WITNESSING-with our minds and souls
And WITNESSING-with our words and actions
IF WE ARE REALLY REALLY BRAVE


I can’t ell you
That someone in authority
Thinks I am here
With compelling testimony


But I CAN tell you
That I am here
ONLY by the grace of God


MIRACLES are extraordinary events
Done through GOD’S POWER


And I can tell you
That there is NO EARTHLY reason
WHY I am alive in today’s world


Other than to say
GOD LOVES THIS WORLD
We are ALL hi children
We are ALL his creation
And he LOVES US
Despite the fact
That many in our country
And many in our world
Have turned their back on him


WITNESSING

PAY IT FORWARD




ONE of my most favorite movies
Is a movie called
PAY IT FORWARD


It is a 2000 movie
BASED on the novel
Of the same name


It boasts a stellar cast INCUDING:
Helen Hunt-Kevin Spacey-Haley Joe Osment
and many other names you would recognize
Including Angie Dickinson


But it is the THEME of the movie
That hit me
RIGHT in the heart


Osment is a seventh grade student
In Las Vegas, Nevada
And his social studies teacher (Spacey)
GIVES the class an assignment
To devise and put into action


“A plan
That would change the world
For the better”


What a novel thought
DO SOMETHING KIND or good
For someone
Rather than
Rape, steal, defraud, etc., etc., etc., someone


“God saw
ALL that he made
and it was very good” Genesis 1:31


MY GOD
What has happened to
This world
BETWEEN then and now-
Some 2,000 years later


“TASTE AND SEE
That the Lord is GOOD
BLESSED is the man
Who takes refuge in him” Psalm 34:8


In the movie,
“PAY IT FORWARD,”
The teacher asks the students
(including Osment)
To do three favors
For others
Rather than paying the favor back


But the favor
Must be a “MAJOR FAVOR”
That the receiver
Can't complete themselves


And isn't that the way
Our own lives are
Without GOD'S FAVOR in it


We were CREATED
In GOD'S own image
And if God can bestow
Life, love, forgiveness, and kindness
On us


Isn't that
The LEAST that we can do
For someone else


“Then God said:
'Let us make man
In our image- in our likeness'” Genesis 1:26


“For you created
My inmost being
You knit me together
In my mother's womb


I PRAISE YOU
For I am wonderfully made
Your WORKS are wonderful
I know that full well” Psalm 139:13-14


Whatever goodness lies in you
Pass it on
PAY IT FORWARD


Use it
To help someone else


In the movie
Osment (Trevor)
DOES FAVORS for three people
Asking each of them
To pass it on


Initially-with mixed results
-And ultimately
Costing Trevor his very own life


But our lives
BY NATURE
Have a cost-death


The BEST that we can HOPE for
IS to have a LASTING EFFECT
By taking all the BLESSINGS
That we have
And passing them on

my mom and dad were married 60 years ago today
I was BAPTIZED into the Catholic 59 years ago today-and began my journey to FIND GOD
in myself and IN ALL OTHERS


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us!






GOD’S PERFECT WORD---COVENANTS AND PROMISES




Has anyone
Ever made you a promise
And not kept their word


Has God


The answers are
Yes and no
At least by the experience
Of my own life


I have been
Let down over and over again
By human beings
But not by God


God always
Keeps his words


A covenant is defined
As an agreement between two parties
A solemn promise or vow
Especially between God and people


God always keeps his covenant
God always keeps his word


God said to Noah
“Never again
Will the waters become a flood
To destroy all the earth
Whenever the RAINBOW appears
In the clouds
I will see it
And remember the everlasting covenant
Between GOD and ALL living creatures
Of every kind”


Man makes promises
Do they keep them
Sometimes yes and sometimes no
Not so with God
God ALWAYS keeps his word


God said to Abraham,
“As for me
This is my covenant with you:
You will be
The Father of many nations
No longer will you be called Abram
Your name will be Abraham
I have made you
The Father of many nations”


Christian, Muslim, and Jew
God always keeps his Word


God said to the Jewish people through Moses,
“You are standing here
In order to enter in to a covenant
With the Lord your God


A covenant the Lord
Is making with you
This day and sealing with an oath


To confirm you this day as his people
That he may be your God
As he promised you
And as he swore to your Fathers,
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”


Do people keep their promises
Sometimes yes---sometimes no


God always keeps his promises
With God---it is always so


God told Nathan
To go and tell David,
“Your house and your kingdom
Will endure forever before me
Your thrown will be established forever”


God always keeps his word


With people
Promises made---sometimes
Are promises broken


With God---that is never so
God always keeps his word


“This is the covenant
I will make with them
I will
Put my law in their hearts
And I will write them
On their minds”


Through Christ’s perfect sacrifice
And the SPIRIT who testifies


GOD’S WORD IS PERFECT
HE ALWAYS KEEPS HIS WORD

GOSSIP-our lingering sins

“Lingering Sins—Gossip”


There once was a woman
With a physical handicap
She was still the same now
As she was 12 years ago

What about are sins
Are our sins
The same today
As they were 12 years ago

No one
Stays the same
Are we improving
Are we regressing

Once
There was a woman
Who gossiped

When she went to confession
The Catholic priest
Told her to go to the market place
And buy a chicken
What an easy penance
She thought

Then the Catholic priest
Told her
To pluck the chicken
An spread the feathers every where

Strange she thought
But she did this too

Then the priest told her
To go and gather the feathers
And put them
Back on the chicken

I can’t do that Father
She said
The feathers are every where

Exactly the priest said
This is what happens
When you talk about someone

What about my lingering sins
What about
Your lingering sins

Where are we
In relationship
To where we were
12 years ago

CONSISTENCY




Are you consistent
In your love of God
And in
Your love of others


By that-I mean
Do you love every day
Not just
The days when you feel good
Or-just when-you feel like it


Our Lord said
The people of this world
Are smarter
Than the people of God
In just one way


They are consistent
In serving themselves
They are consistent
In their selfishness


We are living in this world
But we have to make a choice
Are we living
By the world’s values
Or-are we living by God’s values


“No one can serve two masters
Either he will hate the one
And love the other
Or he will be devoted
To the one
And despite the other
You CANNOT serve both GOD and money” Matthew 6:24


So we know
We ALL have to make a choice


“For where your treasure is
There your heart will also be” Matthew 6:21


The people of this world
Are consistent
In serving themselves


ARE WE—the people of God
CONSISTENT in serving the Lord

In Luke 12-Jesus tells the story about a rich fool who has an over abundance
Of crops and desires to store them-he says to himself:

“You have plenty of good things stored up for many years
Take life easy; eat, drink, and be merry”


But God says to him:


“You fool-this very night your life will be demanded from you
Then who will get what you have prepared for himself”


“Serve wholeheartedly
As if you were serving the Lord, not men” Ephesians 6:7
