FIGURE out how to CHANGE
Our life for the better=
To the BETTER


To make our LIVES=more FULL
Of love=more full of forgiveness=and
MORE full of KINDNESS


“If they will not listen
To Moses and the prophets=


NEITHER will they be persuaded
If someone should RISE from
The dead” Luke 16:31


SCIENTIFIC studies have shown that
WHEN someone already DISBELIEVES something


PRESENTING more evidence to
The CONTRARY=actually HARDENS
Their disbelief


And so it is with FAITH=
If we already BELIEVE=presenting more
EVIDENCE=actually makes us
BELIEVE MORE


CHANGE your lifestyle to FAITH
Change your lifestyle
To BELIEVING IN LOVE


CHANGE for the BETTER


“...............My heart
Is CHANGED within me
All my COMPASSION
Is aroused” Hosea 11:8


“I the Lord
DO NOT CHANGE


So you
The descendants of Jacob
Are not destroyed” Malachi 3:6


“Listen--------I tell you
A mystery


We will not all sleep
But we will all
BE CHANGED--------


In a flash
In a twinkling of an eye
At the last trumpet


For the trumpet will SOUND
The dead will be RAISED-----IMPERISHABLE-----
And we WILL BE CHANGED” 1 Corinthians 15:51-52


CHANGING for the better=
This LENT


Would we be CONVINCED
To LIVE more simply
In love=if SOMEONE we KNOW
Was raised from the dead?


But Christ has already
Been RAISED=
Do we really NEED any more PROOF?


We have already been GIVEN proof=
We should be LIVING in DEEP FAITH


Let us PRAY that we live
Out of love=the WAY
GOD'S CREATION INTENDED


CHANGING FOR THE BETTER!


“Let all CREATION=
Rejoice before the Lord


For he comes
He comes to JUDGE
The earth


He will judge
The world=in righteousness
And the people
In his FAITHFULNESS” Psalm 96:13


“He was CHOSEN
Before the CREATION
Of the world


But was revealed
In these last times
FOR YOUR SAKE” 1 Peter 1:20


Dear Lord=dear Christ=you have
ALREADY changed the world


HELPUS to live this Lent=and
To CHANGE our ways to LOVE=
FORGIVENESS=KINDNESS=and FAITHFULNESS

SERVING WITH HUMILITY


We live at a TIME
When many people think
The world REVOLVES around them


I hate to say that
But I do BELIEVE it is TRUE


But when we READ of the story
Of John and James and their mother=
MAYBE it was true=just as well=
Two thousand years ago


“COMMAND that these two
SONS of mine=sit


ONE at your right
And the other at your left
IN YOUR KINGDOM” Matthew 20:21


What an AWKWARD SCENE=this
Mother=of James and John=
Is on a MISSION=pushing for them
To SIT with Jesus=
WHEN he comes into his KINGDOM


I WONDER how the other apostles felt=
And how EMBARASSING it must have been
For James and John


James and John's mother WASTES no times
PUSHING for them=and she doesn't care
IF she is pushy


But Jesus sets them STRAIGHT=
There will be NO JOCKEYING
For position in his kingdom


The LAST will be first
He tells us=SERVING WITH HUMILITY


“Wisdom's instruction
Is to FEAR the Lord


And HUMILITY
Comes before honor” Proverbs 15:33


“I SERVED the Lord
With great HUMILITY


And with tears
And in the MIDST
Of severe testing


By the plots
Of my JEWISH opponents” Acts 20:19


“Do NOTHING
Out of selfish ambition
Or vain conceit


Rather in HUMILITY
Value OTHERS above yourselves


NOT looking to your own interest
But each of you
To the interests
Of the OTHERS” Philippians 2:3-4


SERVING WITH HUMILITY
Put God and put others ABOVE yourself=
LIVE the two commandments
Of God and Jesus


We are all SPECIAL in
The EYES of God=and we
Are all EQUAL


Our mission is NOT to sit
At the right hand and left hand
Of God=but our COLLECTIVE MISSION
Is to SERVE each other
With HUMILITY


May our mission be to be LAST=but
FIRST in SERVING OTHERS


“But many who are first
Will be LAST

“For in the gospel
The RIGHTEOUSNESS of God

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?


HOW do you define SUCCESS? What
Makes you successful IN LIFE?


For many of us in today's world=
It is wealth=it is FAME=it is
The things that make us
PROMINENT in today's world


But in today's FIRST reading=
Isaiah brings forth a
DIFFERENT idea


He says=You are a SUCCESS=if you
“Make JUSTICE your aim” Isaiah 1:17


A novel idea=and a great way
To be SUCCESSFUL


And Isaiah gives three ways
Of BEING JUST:


“Redress the wronged=
HEAR the orphan's plea=and
DEFEND the widow” Isaiah 1:17


Which LEADS us to
Some CONTEMPORARY questions=


WHO is being WRONGED
In our society today?
How can we HELP those
Who have been wronged?=and=
In what way=can I=
Can we=give them a VOICE
In today's world?


The Lord's VOICE is FAIR
The Lord's voice
Is always JUST!


How do you DEFINE SUCCESS?
Let us=let JUSTICE be
Our IDEAL


“I will SING
Of your love and JUSTICE
To you=Lord


I will sing PRAISE” Psalm 101:1


“The righteous CARE
About JUSTICE for the poor


But the wicked
Have no such concern” Proverbs 29:7


“And the Lord said=
'LISTEN to what the
UNJUST JUDGE says=


And will not God
Bring about JUSTICE
For his CHOSEN ONES
Who cry out to him
Day and night?


Will he KEEP putting
Them off?


I tell you
He will see that
They get JUSTICE
And QUICKLY


However=when the SON OF MAN
Comes=will he FIND FAITH
On the earth?'” Luke 18:6-8


And in the gospel
Today=Jesus REDEFINES SUCCESS


Success=he says=is NOT in proper prayers=
Having FANCY titles=or in EXTRAVAGANT Fashion=
But Jesus says=we SUCCEED=when we
Are SERVING OTHERS


How many of us
Want to do that?


So the question is=WHO=
Might we SERVE TODAY?


“SERVE WHOLEHEARTEDLY
As if you were
SERVING the Lord
Not people


Because you KNOW
That the Lord
Will REWARD each one


For whatever GOOD they do=
WHETHER they are slave or free” Ephesians 6:7-8


So how do YOU define SUCCESS?
WILL you step FORWARD and give
Others a VOICE=as Isaiah suggests?


And HOW will you go and SERVE
OTHERS in today's world?


HOWEVER we do it=SUCCESS comes from
GIVING ourselves AWAY=just as JESUS DID

THE ONE WHO JUDGES

THE ONE WHO JUDGES


Dear Lord=this LENT=help us
To REMEMBER=that we are
NOT the ones called upon
To JUDGE=not others=
Not even ourselves


You Lord are
The one who JUDGES


“Stop judging and
You will NOT be judged” Luke 6:37


So the QUESTION that we have
To ASK ourselves is:
WILL we stop judging others?


The answer should be SIMPLE:
“Yes I will” or “NO I won't”


But it really is not
That SIMPLE for us=
There are two questions
That BEG to be asked:


Do I=do we=want to
STOP JUDGING=and secondly
Am I able?


Or have I done it for SO LONG
That we CAN'T STOP judging
Even if we want to


“The people will say=
'SURELY the righteous
Still are rewarded


Surely there is a GOD
Who JUDGES the earth'” Psalm 58:11


“I care very little
IF I am judged by you
Or by any human court
Indeed=I do not
EVEN judge myself


My conscience is CLEAR=
But that does not make
Me innocent


It is the LORD=
Who JUDGES ME” 1 Corinthians4:3-4


“WHEN they hurled
Their insults at him
He did not retaliate


When he SUFERED
he made no threats


Instead he ENTRUSTED himself
To HIM who JUDGES JUSTLY” 1 Peter 2:23


And it is GOD THE FATHER=
It is the Lord=who JUDGES us
All IMPARTIALLY


If we TRUST God our Father
We have NO NEED to worry
About what anyone else might say
About us


It is the LORD=who is
THE ONE WHO JUDGES


But around the world=HUMANS
Like to JUDGE PEOPLE=
We seem like we ALL
Like to judge others
As we judge ourselves


We are NOT OFTEN even fully
Aware=of our INNER JUDGE
That we USE
To judge people


CAN we STOP the judging?
Do we want to?


The Lord is OBJECTIVE
The LORD is IMPARTIAL
It is the Lord who is the
ONE who decides=who is impartial


“But the wisdom
That comes from heaven
Is first of all PURE
Then peace-loving=considerate


Submissive=FULL OF MERCY=and
Good fruit=IMPARTIAL and sincere” James 3:17


In the gospel=today=
Jesus tells us that it is GOD=
Who JUDGES


God offers us MERCY=let us NOT
Worry what others say=ONLY THE LORD


He=the Lord=God our FATHER
Offers us MERCY and FORGIVENESS


He is
THE ONE WHO JUDGES

Once we get to our source-
We must TURN them OVER
To the Lord


And let him FREE US
From what binds us
ONCE and for all

From what he suffered


And once made PERFECT
He became the SOURCE
Of ETERNAL SALVATION


For all who obey him
And was DESIGNATED by God


To be the high priest
In the order of Melchizedek” Hebrews 5:8-10


Dear Lord=this Lent=we pray=
Let us follow our sins
To the SOURCE
Of what BINDS us to them


And THROUGH YOU=FREE US=from
What BINDS us to sin=as we
SEEK to FOLLOW you
ALL the days=of our lives

LOVE IS THE POWER


LOVE is the STRONGEST POWER
In the world=it CHANGED
The world once=and I BELIEVE
It can CHANGE the world again


But it is NOT EASY=and it is
An awful of of work=love means
FORGIVING=it means overlooking faults=
And SOMETIMES it even means
LOVING OUR ENEMIES


“But I say to you=LOVE your enemies
And PRAY for those

Are you SERIOUS Lord?=I can think
Of people who TURN their heads at me=
Who scoff at me=who I can BARELY
Get a HELLO from


But=LOVE is the POWER=
I know that=you PROVED IT=
You CONQUERED your enemies
By LOVING even in death=
Humiliation=and torture


The LEAST that we can do=is EMULATE
YOU=and LOVE all those you put
In our path=through LIFE


For LOVE IS INDEED THE POWER


“ONE thing God has spoken
Two things I have heard
'POWER belongs to you=God=
And with you=Lord=
Is UNFAILING LOVE'” Psalm 62:11


“The TONGUE has the power
Of LIFE and death


And those who love it
Will eat its fruit” Proverbs 18:21


“Jesus replied='You are in ERROR
Because you do NOT KNOW
The SCRIPTURES
Or the POWER OF GOD'” Matthew 22:29


We KNOW Lord that you
Have the POWER OF LOVE


That you know the Scriptures
That you ARE the Scriptures
That you LOVE EVERYONE


But asking us to love
OUR ENEMIES are tall orders


Are we to love terrorist bombers=
Child molesters=murderers=corrupt politicians=
And on and on and on


WHY MUST we love them?
Sometimes=it is DIFFICULT enough
To love those that we are CLOSE to


Yet you PROVED to us=love in all
WAYS=in all circumstances=CHANGES
THE WORLD


We UNDERSTAND that love is WORK=that love=
Is COMPLICATED=and love comes with a
LOT of emotional baggage


HELP US to truly love
Our enemies=and PRAY for them=
Even though we don't CONDONE
Their ways


You told us that GOD'S WAYS are
NOT the way of humans=and now
I understand


LOVE is the FOUNDATION on which
Christianity was BUILT
Love is the POWER
And it is UNFAILING


LOVE IS THE POWER
Love is the CORNERSTONE
Love is the FOUNDATION


“The rain came down=
The streams rose
And the wind blew=
And BEAT against that house


Yet it did NOT FALL
Because it had its FOUNDATION
On the ROCK” Matthew 7:25


LOVE IS ROCK=You are rock=
You are the FOUNDATION


I give myself to your
UNFAILING LOVE=and even
PRAY FOR MY ENEMIES

LIFE IS UNFAIR!


In LIFE=we don't always get
What we DESERVE=sometimes we get
Better=sometimes we get worse


And sometimes=we get TRAGEDY through
NO FAULT of our own=life really is
UNFAIR


But I think God is the
GREAT EQUALIZER=he sees POSSIBILITIES
For us=for our lives=
When all looks lost


“You say='the LORD'S way is not fair'=
Hear now=house of Israel=


Is it my way
That is unfair=
Or rather-
Are NOT your ways UNFAIR?” Ezekiel 18:25


Saint Paul tells the Romans=
“The wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23


And we ALL sin=so we are
SUBJECT to death=and we are all
Subject to experiencing
The anguish and LONELINESS


The Lord's way is POSSIBILITIES
The Lord's way is FAIR=
Sometimes even MIRACLES


God is FAIR=God gives
A CHANCE=when life sometimes
CLOSES us out

To prudent behavior


DOING what is right=and just=
And FAIR” Proverbs 1:3


“Masters provide yous slaves
With what is FAIR


Because you know
That you also have
A MASTER IN HEAVEN” Colossians 4:1


TRUST in the Lord=he will
DO what is right and FAIR
For you


God is fair=
LIFE IS UNFAIR


In the gospel today (Matthew 5:20-26)
Jesus tells us
That we are NOT


To FOLLOW the laws of God
Simply to keep laws


But if we don't it LEADS to
Spiritual sickness and death


So to get a FAIR LIFE
We must TRUST
In the WAYS OF GOD


And we must RELY
On the GRACE OF GOD


“When he arrived
And saw what
The GRACE of God
Had done


He was glad
And ENCOURAGED them all


To remain true
To the Lord
With ALL their hearts” Acts 11:23


“Through him
We received GRACE and apostleship
To call all the GENTILES


To the obedience
That comes from FAITH
For his name's sake


And you also
Are among those Gentiles
Who are called
To BELONG to Jesus Christ” Romans 1:5-6


LIFE IS UNFAIR!


But if we STAY CLOSE to God
We will receive
A LIFE that is FAIR AND JUST


Maybe even MIRACLES!

Yes Saint Peter was our first POPE

WE ARE IMPERFECT!


It may come as a SURPRISE
To some=but we are=
IMPERFECT PEOPLE=and LENT is
The PERFECT TIME to
EXAMINE our conscience


And examine our faults=
Because if we don't


It is EASY to miss God=it is
Easy to easy to miss the BEAUTY of
The PRESENT moment


And it is easy to get stuck
In resentment and get stuck
On indulging or NURSING a grudge


“Have MERCY on me=O GOD=
In your goodness


In the greatness of your compassion

We need to SLOW ourselves down-sometimes-
And take a good hard luck
At our faults


We need to EXAMINE ourselves=

You are in the FAITH


Test yourselves-

That Christ Jesus is IN YOU

The test=

It is just that we are=
I am=IMPERFECT LORD


And we look forward
To the FREEDOM of

We are IMPERFECT people=Lord=
But we TRY to never fail

I BELIEVE in a God
Who LOVES US=rather than
A punitive God=who is

Towards each other

LETTING GO OF THE HURT


FORGIVENESS is ONE of the
Things that is very difficult=
To do=I think it is HARD
For most people


Although I have met a FEW people
Who forgive easily=I don't think
It is NATURAL for most of us


“If you FORGIVE men their transgressions=
Your Father will FORGIVE YOU” Matthew 6:14


I think for most people=HURTS pile up
Like a bunch of dirty laundry=and the clothes
Won't get clean UNLESS you do something about it


We NEED to BRING our hurts and resentments
To the ONE who has the POWER
To HEAL our hurts


FORGIVENESS is NOT something that
We do on our own=we have to have
The COURAGE and HUMILITY to
Forgive another=forgiveness is
LETTING IT GO


“For the sake
Of your name=Lord


Forgive my iniquity=though
It is GREAT” Psalm 25:11


“Lord-listen!=Lord-FORGIVE!
Lord=HEAR and act!=


For your sake-my God=
Do not delay
Because your city


And your people
BEAR your name” Daniel 9:19


“This is HOW my heavenly Father
Will treat each of you


Unless you forgive
Your brother or sister
From your HEART” Matthew 18:35


As FOLLOWERS of Christ=it is our
DUTY to forgive our brothers
And sisters


It is our duty to forgive
If we IN TURN want
To be forgiven by God


“BLESSED are the MERCIFUL
For they
Will be shown MERCY” Matthew 5:7


“For if you FORGIVE other people
WHEN they sin against you


Your HEAVENLY FATHER

LETTING GO of the hurt
LET GO and let GOD!


Forgiveness is NOT forgetting=excusing=
Or ACCEPTING PAIN=it is simply
LETTING GO of it


OPEN your heart to God=let
The hurt go


PRAYER readies the heart and mind to
LET the hurt go=and helps us NOT to diminish
Our love and our kindness for others


LET GO OF THE HURT!

Who keeps an OATH
Even when it HURTS


And does not

Let go and LET GOD!

LIVING HOLINESS EVERY DAY


When we think of HOLINESS=
It often makes us think
Of an OVERLY PIOUS person


Who is maybe neither GOOD
For heaven or earth


Holiness is really NOT that way=
It IS just having a CERTAIN
Set of principles=PRAYING=doing good=
And LIVING out of LOVE


“Be HOLY=for I=the LORD=am holy” Leviticus 19:2


LIVE HOLINESS every day=let it BE
A PART of your life


Some of the holiest people that I know
Are DOWN to earth=good people=
LIVING GOOD LIVES


And it certainly is NOT walking around
Saying=”PRAISE THE LORD”
All the time


What happens=when you ENGAGE with a
Truly holy person=is that you SHARE your
Thoughts and ideas=and you do so
WITHOUT JUDGING OTHERS


DOING the right thing=becomes
ORDINARY=when you=
Are living holy lives


And reading the bible=and praying=
Becomes part of your daily living=
As well as GOING to MASS or to CHURCH
AS often as possible


“Let them praise your great
And AWESOME NAME---------
He is HOLY” Psalm 99:3


“The fear of the Lord
Is the BEGINNING of wisdom


And knowledge of the HOLY ONE
Is understanding” Proverbs 9:10


“The angel answered=
'The HOLY SPIRIT will come
On you


And the power of the MOST HIGH
Will overshadow you


So the holy one to be BORN
Will be called
The SON OF GOD” Luke 1:35


Of course=NONE of us
Will lead holy lives
Like Jesus


But we can EMULATE HIM=and LIVE
His principles of LOVE and forgiveness


In CONJUNCTION with who we are and
HOW we live our lives


LIVING HOLINESS with an ordinary
Life=is possible=And being down
To earth too


WHEN we are living holy lives=
We are concerned about JUSTICE=
And we are living GOD'S COMMANDMENTS
In TUNE with our fellow man


And we promote and support life=
And REVERENCE and HONOR others=
We respect others


We PRAY TOGETHER for
The NEEDS of the world


HOLINESS can be just that=an
ORDINARY WAY of living=and it is
A life that LEADS to JOY


“The Lord is my strength
And my shield


My heart TRUSTS in him
And he HELPS ME


My heart LEAPS for JOY
And with my song
I PRAISE HIM” Psalm 28:7


Get CLOSE to God=get close
To JESUS=live HOLINESS EVERY DAY
Of your lives and in
An ORDINARY WAY

THE LOVING PRESENCE OF
GOD OUR FATHER


Today we read about Jesus
Being SENT into the wilderness
For 40 days and being TEMPTED
By Satan=while he was AMONG
The wild beasts


But also there was GOD'S ANGELS
To ADMINISTER to him


When our faith is CHALLENGED=we
Are in a DESERT=but we are NEVER
Tempted beyond our ability
To resist


The LOVING PRESENCE of God
The FATHER=and his ANGELS
Are always with us


“Jesus was among wild beasts=and=
The ANGELS ministered to him” Mark 1:13


And OUR angels=often times in the
Form of OTHER PEOPLE=are there
For us


I can speak of experience=where
FAMILY MEMBERS and FRIENDS have stepped
UP to help me=so many many times


“For he will command
His ANGELS=
Concerning you


To GUARD you
In all your ways” Psalm 91:11


“The weeds are the people
Of the evil one


And the enemy who sows them
Is the devil


The HARVEST is at the
END of the age
And the harvesters
Are angels” Matthew 13:39


“And again=when God brings
His firstborn into the world
He says=


'Let ALL GOD'S ANGELS
Worship him'” Hebrews 1:6


The LOVING PRESENCE
Of God the FATHER=often=
In the form of ANGELS


Sometimes=angels disguised
As people


Jesus always FACED his challenges
Head on=throughout his MINISTRY=
All the way to the CROSS


We would do well
To do the SAME


Dear God=Dear Father=please STRENGTHEN
Our FAITH with your LOVING PRESENCE
As we face the CHALLENGES
Of our lives


“BLESSED are those
Who have learned
To acclaim you


Who walk in the LIGHT
Of your PRESENCE=Lord” Psalm 89:15


“How can we THANK GOD
Enough for you


In return for all the JOY
We have in the PRESENCE
Of our GOD=because of you?” 1 Thessalonians 3:9


Dear LOVING FATHER=we thank you
For your LOVING PRESENCE
All the days of our lives


As we FACE our challenges=
With FAITH=

Despite what some people may think
We are ALL WELCOME in God's
KINGDOM=we are all WELCOME
In God's CHURCH

EXCEPTION of Jesus=all God used
Was sinners to BUILD THE KINGDOM=
To build his Church


“Those who are healthy=
Do NOT need a physician
But the sick do


I have not come
To call the righteous=to REPENTANCE=

The CHURCH welcomes sinners=
NOT just SAINTS=we are all
BOUND to each other to LEARN
To love one ANOTHER=Even sometimes
When we seem the most unlovable=
When we MAKE MISTAKES


Let us WELCOME each other=let
Us RECEIVE each other in the name
Of God=in the name of CHRIST


In the name of the CHURCH=
ALL are welcome


“He took a little child
Whom he placed
Among them=TAKING the CHILD
In his arms
He said to them


'WHOEVER WELCOMES one of these children=
In my name=WELCOMES ME=


And whoever welcomes me=does not
Welcome me=but the ONE

WELCOMING JESUS and his FATHER

Human sinfulness BRINGS self-centered
Thoughts=focusing on me and mine


But REPENTANCE means GIVING UP
My will for GOD'S WILL=and what is
BEST for me and mine


Gives way to GOD'S LOVE
For all of us


MORTAL love is never perfect=but
GOD'S LOVE IS=so we strive
To include all


To BE INCLUSIVE


So we must LEARN to FORGIVE
OTHERS when they fail=
We fail when we are OVERCOME by
Anger-impatience-jealousy-apathy=
Etc., etc., etc.


So we MUST learn to forgive=
NONE of us are perfect=
We are all HUMAN


“But who can discern
Their own errors


FORGIVE my hidden faults” Psalm 19:12


“Jesus answered=
'I tell you NOT 7X=
but 77 TIMES'” Matthew 18:21


Dear Lord=we seek REPENTANCE=
For our faults=
And we SEEK to forgive those
Who are sorry and repent


HELP us to BUILD YOUR KINGDOM=
Your CHURCH=
That we WELCOME ALL in the
NAME OF LOVE

FOCUSING ON GOD


It seems today=that many of us focus on “STUFF”=
On HOW MUCH we can accumulate


Wealth=cars=relationships=but what really
MATTERS is our LOVE OF GOD=and
Our LOVE OF OTHERS


Let us FOCUS on God=and our
RELATIONSHIP with him
This lent


“What profit is there
For ONE to gain the whole world
Yet lose or FORFEIT himself” Luke 9:25


There is one TRUISM about
Wealth and money=and it is
“You CAN'T TAKE IT with you”


And that is so true


In some corners of the world=
These days=there is a SIMPLICITY
Movement=it is also called MINIMALISM


This CALLS to mind the large
CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT=the movement
Of Saint Francis=and even
Jesus himself


LET GO of the physical=FOCUS=
On what really matters=
THE LOVE OF GOD=and
The love of OTHERS


FOCUSING ON GOD=keeping God
At the CENTER
Of our lives


Jesus thought so much of the
LOVE OF GOD and the love
Of others=that he IDENTIFIED them as
The TWO commandments that really matter


They “TESTED” Jesus with this question=
“Teacher-which is the greatest commandment
In the LAW?” Matthew 22:36


“Jesus replied='Love the Lord
Your God with all your heart
And with all your soul
And with all your mind'


This is the first and greatest
Commandment=and the second
Is like it:


'LOVE your neighbor as yourself'


All the LAW and prophets
Hang on these two commandments” Matthew 22:37-40


The love of God
And the LOVE of others


LENT is the perfect time
To EVALUATE our involvement
With STUFF


It is the time to FOCUS on our
Actions=on our choices=and on
RELATIONSHIP with OTHERS


FOCUS ON GOD=
CHOOSE God over materialism


Make love of God=love of others
Your number ONE choice
In this life


“This day
I call the heavens
And the earth=as WITNESSES
Against you


That I have set before you
Life and death=BLESSINGS and curses


Now CHOOSE LIFE
So that you and your children
May live=and that you may LOVE
The Lord your God...........” Deuteronomy 30:19-20


“You did NOT CHOOSE me
But I chose you-
And appointed you


So that you might go
And bear fruit--------
Fruit that will last---------


And so that
WHATEVER you ask in my name
The Father will give to you


This is my command=
LOVE ONE ANOTHER” John 15:16-17


Let us FOCUS on our RELATIONSHIP
With God the LENT=and keep him

Experience a CONVERSION of the HEART

This conversion entails a TURNING
Of our heart back toward God


This CONVERSION entails TWO THINGS=
Finding PEACE with God=and finding peace

DO GOOD
Seek PEACE and

“Get words=get UNDERSTANDING
Do NOT forget my words=
Or turn away

“Repent then=
And TURN to God
So that


Your sins may be
Wiped out


That times of REFRESHING
May COME from the Lord” Acts 3:19


Lent is a time for RENEWAL
It is a time/THE TIME
When we should make


A determined EFFORT
To forgive those
Who have hurt us


And we should make AMENDS=
To those of whom we have offended
In whatever WAY that we can


MAKING PEACE with God
And others are INSEPARABLE=
They go hand and hand


It is a time
For REACHING OUT to others


Lent is a time
For finding PEACE=LENT is
A time for RENEWAL
Of our hearts to God and
To OTHERS

Who satisfies your desires
With GOOD things


So that your youth
Is RENEWED=like the eagle's” Psalm 103:5


“Therefore=we do NOT
Lose heart


Tough outwardly
We are wasting away
Yet INWARDLY=


We are BEING RENEWED

DOUBTS DISSOLVED BY FAITH

DOUBTS DISSOLVED BY FAITH


We all have DOUBTS in
Our life=doubts about whether
God exists


Doubts about our STANDING
With others=even doubts
WITHIN ourselves about ourselves


“Do you have eyes
And not see=
Ears and not here?” Mark 8:18


But we FIND ourselves with
Our FAITH in God=with our faith in Jesus
JUST the same way
The apostles did


In today's reading=the disciples
BRING their WORRY to Jesus=
That they have only ONE loaf of bread
LEFT in the boat


Even though they have already WITNESSED=
The FEEDING of the MULTITUDES=and
GATHERED up leftovers in their baskets


Jesus REMINDS them as much=
And asks them about their EYES
And their ears


ABOUT THEIR DOUBT


How about us? God and Jesus have
Already BROUGHT us through so much
In our lives=when ALL
Was against us


Yet we CONTINUE to doubt=
Continue to WORRY


Let your FAITH in GOD=
Your faith in Jesus=
DISSOLVE your DOUBT


“Therefore=I tell you=
Do NOT WORRY about your life


What you will eat
Or drink
Or about your body
What you will wear


IS NOT life MORE than food
And the body more than clothes?
…...................
CAN any of you by WORRYING
Add a single hour
To your life?” Matthew 6:25-27


“But when they arrest you=
Do NOT worry
About what to say
Or HOW to say it


At that time
You will be GIVEN
What to say


For it
Will not be you SPEAKING


But the SPIRIT of the FATHER
Speaking through you” Matthew 10:19-20


So whoever you are=
WHATEVER you are going through=let
FAITH DISSOLVE your doubts


We BELIEVE in what Jesus
Has done for OTHERS=but will he
DO IT for us?


Have FAITH in God and Jesus=He will
NOT turn you away=without giving you
The hope and reassurance that you NEED
In order to get through it


“WHEN Jesus saw their faith-
He said to the man=
'Take HEART=your sins are forgiven'” Matthew 9:2
(And at that moment=the paralyzed man WALKED)


Dear Lord=we pray that a new
Hope and UNFLINCHING FAITH in you=
Can CARRY us through


OVERCOME our doubt
Hone our vision=
And SHARPEN our hearing


Let our FAITH in you

SIGNS OF GOD'S LOVE


The Pharisees were PESSING Jesus=
They were looking for some
KIND of sign=that Jesus
Was the MESSIAH


But the TRUTH was=the only
SIGNS they were going to get
Were the signs that Jesus
Had already been giving


The signs of HIS GOODNESS=love=
Generosity and compassion=he was
SHOWING them=as he shows us
The signs of his
EVERY DAY LOVE


“The Pharisees came forward
And began to ARGUE
With him=seeking........


A sign from heaven
To test him


Jesus sighed
From the depth
Of his SPIRIT” Mark 8:11-12


The truth is that the PHARISEES
Ill-willed testing shows us
That their HEARTS were
ALREADY CLOSED


How about us?=Are our hearts
COMPLETELY closed too?


Closed to God and Jesus' everyday
Love and coincidences=they saw
People HEALED=demons cast out
The dead RAISED=and thousands fed
BY a few loaves of bead
And fish


WE read about the MIRACLES
Everyday in the bible=
Are our hearts HARDENED too?


CAN'T we SEE the signs
Of God's and Jesus' every day LOVE
In our lives?


“And God said=
'This is the SIGN
Of the COVENANT
I am making


Between me and you
A covenant
For ALL generations to come


I have set my RAINBOW
In the clouds
And it will be


The SIGN of the COVENANT
Between me and the earth'” Genesis 9:12-13


Signs of GOD'S LOVE=
Includes the RAINBOW=
The covenant of the LORD


“Then some of the Pharisees=
And teachers of the law
Said to him=


'Teacher=we WANT to see a sign
From you'” Matthew 12:38


“'WHAT are we going
To do with these men?'=they asked


'EVERYONE living in Jerusalem knows
They have PERFORMED-
A notable SIGN=


And we CANNOT DENY IT'” Acts 4:16


SIGNS OF GOD'S LOVE


As long as we KEEP
Our eyes and ears open=
We can EXPERIENCE goodness
And understand it


We see GOD'S LOVE every day
In a bird singing=in/when
We RENEW ourselves and
FEEL RESTORED
As well as


WHEN family and friends CALL
To check in on us


Or when children or grandchildren
TEACHING us new things


Dear God=Dear Lord=
Help us to keep our EYES and EARS OPEN
To see the SIGNS OF GOD'S LOVE
Every day of our lives

Our lives are FULL OF CHOICES=
Our culture presents us with
INFINITE CHOICES=no matter what
Area of life we are in


CHOICES of food=cars=etc., etc.,=
We CAN choose how we
SPEND our time=spend our money=
WHO we spend our time with


But I CAUTION YOU=at a TIME
In our history=when NO ONE
Has time for God


It is ONLY God and Jesus
That FULLY SATISFY=it IS
Only God and Jesus
That bring FULFILLMENT


“They ate and were SATISFIED” Mark 8:8


We can find TEMPORARY SATISFACTION=
But life has so MANY CHOICES
That it can leave us
Feeling like we are spinning
In different directions
Spinning OUT OF CONTROL


It is ONLY GOD and Jesus
That FULLY SATISFY US=that
Leave us fulfilled=that
Leave us


With the WORD of God
LIVING in our hearts


“SATISFY us
In the morning
With your UNFAILING LOVE


That we may sing
For JOY
And be glad ALL day long” Psalm 90:14


“And if you spend yourselves
In behalf of the hungry


And SATISFY the needs
Of the oppressed
Then your light


Will RISE in the darkness
And your night will become
LIKE the noonday” Isaiah 58:10


“They all ate
And were SATISFIED


And the disciples-
Picked up the 12 baskets
Of broken pieces
That were left over” Matthew 14:20


SATISFY your lives=
Satisfy your cravings=FIND yourselves
In the WORD OF GOD
Find yourselves=on the love of God
And of Jesus


ONLY GOD & JESUS FULLY SATISFY


The good news is that
No matter how DISTRACTED we become-
God and Jesus NEVER forget us


They are EAGER to receive us
When we are ready


WHEN we are eager to SERVE
When we are eager to care
When we are eager to PRAY
And to WORSHIP


CLEAR OUT spaces in your life
For God=so that God


CAN transform you/TRANSFORM us
Into people of contentment=
And people of LOVE and GRATITUDE


“And we all-
Who with unveiled faces
CONTEMPLATE the Lord's glory


Are being TRANSFORMED
Into his IMAGE=
With ever-increasing GLORY


Which comes from the Lord
Who is the SPIRIT” 2 Corinthians 3:18


Dear Lord=in a world that
Presents a MULITUDE of CHOICES


We pray that we CHOOSE YOU=as number 1

And we should NEVER lose sight
That we are living
The MIRACLE of LIFE & LOVE


Make the most of it=
You only get ONE CHANCE=tell people
That you LOVE them=every chance
That you get


“You are the God
Who PERFORMS MIRACLES


You display your power
Among the peoples” Psalm 77:14


“WHERE did this man
Get these things?'-they asked=
'What's this WISDOM
That has been given him?
What are these
REMARKABLE MIRACLES

Does God
Give you his SPIRIT


And work MIRACLES among you
By the works
Of the law


Or by BELIEVING

It is now TIME
To SHARE the good news
Of the LORD


Tell of him=his healings=

His teachings


The time to stay quiet
ENDED with the RESURRECTION


As CHRISTIANS=we are CALLED
To SHARE the good news
With all=we CAN do it
With whatever ways go BEST
With our lives


For me=it is cards=it is POEMS=
It is LOVE and prayers=however we do it
We must


SHARE THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD


“The generous
Will themselves BE BLESSED


For they SHARE their food

“And our HOPE for you
Is firm


Because we know

The SUN comes up

Seeing God in our world?


How can we miss SEEING GOD
In our lives?


We eat=we breathe=we sleep=
We have jobs=we have money=
We have a ROOF over our heads


Keep your eyes WIDE OPEN=
God is ALIVE=how can we

We scan our lives
LOOKING for God
Just a glimpse of him=here=


Or a glimpse of him there=
But GOD IS EVERYWHERE


God is everything in our lives=
IF he ceased to love us=
For just one second
We would cease to breathe


God no longer hides from us
He lives WITHIN US and all
AROUND US=he is everywhere

FASHIONED the ear

Who formed the eye

“The eye
Is the lamp
Of the body


IF your eyes are healthy
Your whole body
Will be FULL OF LIGHT” Matthew 6:22

If we are willing to WATCH

THE PRICELESS GIFTS OF GOD


Today=we READ about Sheba (modern day
Yemen)=and their QUEEN taking PRICELESS GIFTS
for and to SOLOMON


These GIFTS are--------fine spices
And jewels=but she explains that
She is HONORING Solomon


NOT for his wealth=splendor=
Or power= bur for his
WISDOM & JUSTICE


And those are=THE PRICELESS
GIFTS OF GOD=wisdom and justice


“He will make JUSTICE
Dawn for you
Like the LIGHT” Psalm 37:6


We ALL know the story of
SOLOMON=the SON OF David=
When God tells him that he
CAN HAVE any gift that he wants


He CHOOSES the gift of WISOM=
MAY we all learn to do
Just that=and live with THE PRICELESS GIFTS
Of wisdom and justice


And NOT be searching for the gifts
Of jewels=wealth and fame


The PRICELESS GIFTS of God
Are WISDOM and JUSTICE


“The fear of the LORD
Is the
BEGINNING of wisdom


All who follow
His precepts
Have good understanding


To him
BELONGS eternal praise” Psalm 111:10


“For the Lord-
GIVES WISDOM=


From his mouth
Come knowledge
And UNDERSTANDING” Proverbs 2:6


“Brothers and sisters
Choose 7 men
From among you


Who are KNOWN
To be FULL of the SPIRIT
And wisdom


We will TURN this RESPONSIBILITY
Over to them” Acts 6:3-4


Dear Lord=like Solomon=we CHOOSE
The PRICELESS GIFTS of God=
Wisdom and understanding=and JUSTICE


UNFORTUNATELY=thousands of years later=
MANY of us are still looking
For wealth and power


The queen EXPOSED this myth
Many years ago=wealth and power
Are NOT the shiniest gifts


But the WISDOM and JUSTICE
That GOD GIVES us
To live with


It is RIGHTEOUSNESS that shines
It is JUSTICE that shines=let us live=
With the GOD-LIKENESS of Jesus=
The justice of God=and
The WISDOM of Solomon


“The Lord is known
By his
ACTS OF JUSTICE


The wicked are ensnared
By the work of their hands” Psalm 9:16


“When JUSTICE is done
It brings joy
For the RIGHTEOUS


But terror to evildoers” Proverbs 21:15


The BIBLE pays tribute
To those PRICELESS GIFTS
Of wisdom and justice


Dear LORD=we pray that we
LIVE with the WISDOM and JUSTICE
Of God and Jesus=and our dear brother
King Solomon


MAY our wisdom and justice=SHINE
And RISE like the morning sun

GOD IS PRESENT IN OUR LIVES


OUR LIVES take us
All over the state=all
Over the country=
All over the WORLD


It is REFRESHING to know
That God is in our lives=
Wherever we go


“May your eyes
WATCH night and day
Over this temple..............” 1 Kings 8:29


God is PRESENT at our places
Of worship=in our church=Solomon's
PRAYER reminds me as much


But he is present in our
HOMES too=what we might like
To call our DOMESTIC CHURCH=
He is present in our homes=and wherever we
Are=wherever we go


“You make KNOWN to me
The path of life
You FILL me with joy
In your PRESENCE


With eternal pleasures
At your right hand” Psalm 16:11


“HOW can we
Thank God
ENOUGH for you


In RETURN for all the joy
We have
In the PRESENCE of our God
Because of you?” 1Thessalonians 3:9


“This is how we know
That we BELONG to the truth


And how we set our hearts
At rest=IN HIS PRESENCE” 1 John 3:19


God is PRESENT=
IN OUR LIVES


WITHIN the walls of our home=
There are greetings and apologies


Moments of glory and praise=
Where family heirlooms serve as
The old testament of our lives=
And E-MAILS coming in
BRING US the good news


How BLESSED we are
That God is IN OUR LIVES
And in our homes=and watching over us
SIX days of the week


Until we arrive on SUNDAY=
We spend our time with him


How BLESSED we are
That GOD is PRESENT=and in
Our lives


“Blessed is the ONE
Who TRUSTS
In the Lord


Who does NOT
Look to the proud


To those who turn aside
From false gods” Psalm 40:4


“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is the one
WHO comes in the name of the Lord!”
“BLESSED is the king of Israel” John 12:13


And maybe our CLOSING
PRAYER should be one=just like
The ONE of Solomon=
“GUIDE me through
The starry night
And wake me
In the MORNING LIGHT”


YES=God= is PRESENT in our
LIVES=all 7 days of the week=
IN CHURCH=and out=and
EVERYWHERE we go

I see people WALKING
Around town=I see people in
The streets=Such SOMBER
Looking faces everywhere=SMILE=
LET the joy in!


Do you KNOW about God? Do you
Know about Jesus? Are they
In your life? Do you know
HOW MUCH that they LOVE YOU?


If we do=if we know that=
How can we not smile? How can
We not LIVE with GOD FULFILLING JOY?


Smile=LET THE JOY IN!


“On what
Were its footings set
Or who laid
The CORNERSTONE---------


While the morning stars
Sang together


And all the angels
SHOUTED for JOY?” Job 38:6-7


“But let all
WHO take refuge in you
Be glad

CHURCH is the place of
GOOD NEWS=at least=it should be


I understand that people get DEPRESSED
Over a variety of reasons=and that
MANY are suffering


But the WORDS of God=
Speak of hope=love=courage=
And ETERNAL JOY=for we are going
To SPEND ETERNITY with the Lord


GIVE a faith-filled smile=let the JOY
In=and out=show it to
Others=SMILE!


REJOICE! Rejoice in the Lord=
Let the JOY IN!


“I will
GLORY in the Lord-
Let the afflicted hear
And REJOICE!” Psalm 34:2


“Rejoice in the Lord-
ALWAYS=I will say it again=
REJOICE” Philippians 4:4


LOOK around church=look around you=
And SMILE=LET THE JOY IN!


And may we find SUSTAINING
SPIRITUAL JOY in the house of

MORNING TIME=BEING INTIMATE WITH GOD

MORNING TIME=BEING INTIMATE WITH GOD


Jesus=the SON of the Father=the FIRST thing
He did EVERY morning was
BE INTIMATE with God=he sought solitude=
He set ASIDE time=HE PRAYED


Don't you think it would be
WISE if we did the same=if we
SET TIME aside to pray to GOD the Father=and
With/as well as to his SON=Jesus?


“RISING very early before dawn=
He left and went off
To a deserted place


WHERE HE PRAYED” Mark 1:35


So we have some INSIGHT
Into the spiritual practices
Of Jesus=


So if Jesus KNEW morning time
With God the Father was IMPORTANT


We can ASSUME that MORNING TIME
With God the Father=
Is CRUCIAL
To the rest of us too


“In the MORNING=Lord=
You HEAR my voice


In the morning
I LAY my requests
Before you


And wait expectantly” Psalm 5:3


“The path
Of the righteous
Is like the MORNING SUN


Shining ever brighter
Till the full LIGHT
OF DAY” Proverbs 4:18


“We also have
The prophetic message
As something completely RELIABLE


And you will DO WELL
To pay attention to it
As a light
SHINING in a dark place


Until the day DAWNS
And the MORNING STAR-
RISES in your hearts” 2 Peter 1:19


Every day=I START my morning
By reading the bible=
PRAYING the ROSARY=and
BEING INTIMATE with God


IF Jesus did it=it is
The least I can do=too


CONNECTING to the SOURCE of PEACE
And being INTIMATE with
God our FATHER=before=
Our day begins=MORNING TIME


Being CLOSE with the Lord
In the MORNING=Connecting
With the SOURCE OF PEACE


It sets the tone
For the day


“The Lord is CLOSE
To the brokenhearted


And SAVES those=
Who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:18


“He tends his flock
Like a shepherd


He GATHERS the lambs
In his arms
And carries them
CLOSE to his heart


He gently leads those
That have young” Isaiah 40:11


STARTING OUR MORNING
With quiet time and CONNECTING
With the Lord


MAKES all the difference
In our day


This time CREATES
A foundation of GRATITUDE
And reverence


And helps me/HELPS US
To be INTIMATE with God and Christ
Throughout the day


And ALL the days of our lives
In Jesus' name

IS LOVE AT THE CENTER
OF YOUR BEING?


Jesus and his followers LIVED with
God=with LOVE=at the CENTER
Of their lives


Are you? AM I? Are we
DOING the same? Doesn't look
LIKE we are BASED
On what is going on
In the world today


“When he disembarked
And SAW the vast crowd


His HEART=was moved
With pity for them...............” Mark 6:34


Just look at this scene=
The CIRCUMSTANCES and the emotions
Are running wild


Jesus and his DISCIPLES
Have just had a day-
OVERFLOWING with human need


The DEMANDS were so constant
That they didn't even have
A CHANCE to eat


Jesus and his apostles
Are looking for SOLITUDE


But yet they-
Are pushing off shore
To cross the lake
To continue to
SREAD THE WORD!


LOVE is at the
CENTER of their being=
Am I? Are you CENTERED
IN LOVE?=The way Jesus
And his apostles were


Let LOVE LEAD YOU
Let LOVE be your CENTER PIECE


“See if
There is any offensive way
In me


And LEAD ME
In the way everlasting” Psalm 139:24


“I instruct you
In the WAY of wisdom


And LEAD you
Along straight paths” Proverbs 4:11


“Dear children=do
NOT let anyone
LEAD you astray


The one who does
What is RIGHT
Is righteous


Just as he is RIGHTEOUS” 1 John 3:7


Is LOVE LEADING you
Like it was Jesus
And his FOLLOWERS?


Is love at the CENTER
Of your being?


Jesus gets ACROSS the lake
And SEES a throng of people
That beat him
To his destination


We DON'T KNOW what he
Was thinking=just what he DID


His ACTIONS were ground in
COMPASSION and his HEART
Was MOVED with pity
And he BEGAN to TEACH
The waiting crowd


LOVE was at the CENTER
Of his BEING


“I love you LORD=
My strength” Psalm 18:1


“Let LOVE and faithfulness
NEVER leave you
Bind them


Around your neck
WRITE them-
On the tablet
Of your HEART” Proverbs 3:3


Dear Lord=we PRAY=please
Let LOVE BE
The CENTER of our being


PLEASE let love
BE the CENTER
Of our actions


Just like the Lord Jesus=and=
His followers=and let us=SHARE THE LOVE!

THE POSSIBILITY OF DIVINITY?


WHY is it that some of
Us recognize and SEE GOD in
This world? And others of us
DO NOT?


Why is it that some of us
See the POSSIBILITY of DIVINITY
In each and everyone of us
And OTHERS of us do not?


“........For my eyes have seen
Your SALVATION..........” Luke 2:30


2,000 years ago=on a NORMAL
Average day at the temple=two
RECOGNIZED the possibility=of divinity
In the COMING of our Lord
To the temple=
Simeon and Anna


Why is it that they were
The ONLY ONES? What did Simeon and Anna
Notice and recognize in Jesus
That no one else saw?


WHAT caused them to cry out
And CALL ATTENTION to the presence
Of the LONG-AWAITED ONE?


What calls us to recognize the
POSSIBILITY of DIVINITY in others?


Why do we see the
PRESENCE of the Lord in today's
World? While others just ignore him?


The POSSIBILITY OF DIVINITY=the
PRESENCE of the Lord in others


“Jesus LOOKED at them
And said='with man
This is impossible=but
With God=ALL THINGS are possible” Matthew 19:26


Yes=creation=DIVINITY=life=is
IMPOSSIBLE=left up to us-man=BUT
With God=Jesus=the possibility
Of divinity and life=lives within us=
EACH of us=because of them


“If you CAN?”=said Jesus=
”EVERYTHING is possible
For the one who BELIEVES” Mark 9:23


YES=Anna and Simeon=BELIEVED
In God and Jesus=just the SAME WAY
You and I believe=if
Not more so


Just IMAGINE=both of them=
For years=looking and gazing
At the face of EVERY child
And woman=THINKING=


“ARE YOU THE ONE?”


IMAGINE a lifetime of looking
INTO the face of every baby=
Of every human being


And SEEING the possibility
Of divinity


YEARS of PRAYER=allowed them
To see the ROOT in the baby Jesus=
Just the same way=
YEARS of prayer and attentiveness


ALLOWS US to see the
Possibility of DIVINITY of God=
In each and every one of us


The possibility of divinity=
We are all=ROOTED IN GOD


“IF the part of the dough
OFFERED as first fruits
Is holy


Then the WHOLE batch
Is holy


If the ROOT is holy
So are the branches” Romans 11:16


“I-Jesus-
Have sent the ANGEL
To give you
The TESTIMONY
For the churches


I am the ROOT
And the OFFSPRING of David
Ant the bright MORNING STAR” Revelation 22:16


Simeon and Anna RECOGNIZED that
Jesus was the HOLY ONE=the SAME should
Be TRUE for each of us


Will we recognize the LORD'S
PRESENCE in the world=today=and
The POSSIBILITY OF DIVINITY=God's
OWN SON=in each and every one of us?


In the names of Jesus and HIS
MOST beautiful-glorious-HEAVENLY FATH
