He loves us in WHOLE=
TOTALLY and UNCONDITIONALLY

OUR ENTIRETY

Mary is CHOSEN to be

Which is a FAMILIAR THEME
In Scripture=and look at the
POOR family God chose


Jesus=a HUMBLE servant= and
His mother Mary=NOT from the rich
And powerful group


When we look at Scripture=
Let us LOOK at WHO
GOD WORKS THROUGH


Those with NO standing in society
To WARRANT attention=and nobody
That will get any SPECIAL treatment


GOD LOVES THE LOWLY!


“Mary said

The GREATNESS of the Lord


My spirit REJOICES

Looked with FAVOR

At 63 and ½ years old

POSSIBLE=

How many times have you
HEARD or said=

That is LETERALLY TRUE

Gender and age


Yet=there are so MANY
BEAUTIFUL people in this world=

Following Christ=
BRINGING YOUR BEAUTY
Into the world

Because you BELONG to Christ


AMEN=I say to you=

In today's GOSPEL=Jesus brings UP
Some graphic and UGLY IMAGES


He talks about
Hanging MILLSTONES around
People's necks


CUTTING off hands and feet
And plucking out eyes


The point is:


Body disfiguration is NOTHING
As COMPARED to one
Who sins and does evil


SIN is ugly=FOLLOW Christ
Bring your BEAUTY
Into the world


“One thing
I ASK from the Lord
This only do I seek


That I may DWELL
In the HOUSE of the Lord
All the days
Of my life


To gaze on the BEAUTY
Of the Lord
And to seek him
In his temple” Psalm 27:4


“Rather=it should be
That of your INNER SELF


The UNFADING BEAUTY

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA
IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE




Saint Rita
Is a SAINT for the impossible


Rita was a widow
Then later an Augustinian nun
She is considered to be
The patron Saint of Desperate Cases


As a child
Rita wanted to become a nun
But married
In deference to her parents’ wishes


Her husband—after marriage
Became violent and notoriously unfaithful


They had 2 sons together
And Rita endured
Her husband’s insults and unfaithfulness
For 18 years


One day
He was murdered
And his sons set out to avenge his death
They too died


Rita then became a nun


She prayed constantly and with meditation
So intensely
That a wound appeared on her forehead
As though
She was pierced by a crown of thorns


She died of tuberculosis
And after her death
Her reputation for holiness and miracles
Continued to spread


Her body
Remains incorrupt even today


Today-along with saint Jude
She is known
As the patron of impossible cases


She is also known
As the patron for difficult marriages
Particularly where the husband
Is violent or unfaithful


Her feast day is May 22^nd
And includes
A BLESSING OF ROSES

This is what happened today
With Jesus and his disciples=
Jesus ASKS them=


“What were you ARGUING about
ON the way?” Mark 9:33


But they DON'T ANSWER=because
They were arguing about which
ONE of them
IS THE GREATEST


But Jesus gets RIGHT to the POINT
And TEACHES them
About FIRST and LAST


Jesus said=
“ANYONE who wants
To be FIRST


Must be the very LAST
And thee SERVANT
Of ALL” Mark 9:35


GETTING TO THE POINT=as
ONLY Jesus can


We live in a CULTURE
Where we all WANT
To be first








We are TAUGHT a LESSON
That things are DIFFERENT
In the KINGDOM o God

HE WAS HUMAN TOO!

HE WAS HUMAN TOO!


Sometimes I FORGET that
Jesus was HUMAN Too=in addition
To being DIVINE


He had a LOT of
The same FEELINGS
That we have


He felt sorrow=anger=CHANGED
His mind=and was even SURPRISED
On occasion


The gospel today BEGINS
After the TRANSFIGURATION=
WHERE the divine nature
Of Jesus is REVEALED


Yet Jesus is faced
With such HUMAN concerns as bickering=
And a father APPEALING
To Jesus
On BEHALF of his ailing son


Jesus PERFORMS a MIRACLE
On the boy


His disciples ask=
“'WHY could we not
DRIVE the spirit out?'
Jesus said to them=


'This KIND can ONLY come out
Through PRAYER'” Mark 9:29


What more EVIDENCE do we
NEED of Jesus' humanity?
He PRAYED every day
To his Father


Something that we can ALL do
Something we SHOULD all do=
IS PRAY


PRAY like our teacher=Jesus=
Pray=for he is our LEADER


“Answer me=
When I call you
My RIGHTEOUS God


Give me relief
From my distress
Have MERCY on me
And hear my PRAYER” Psalm 4:1


“Therefore I tell you-
WHATEVER you ask for=
In PRAYER


Believe that you have
RECEIVED it=
And it will be YOURS” Mark 11:24


Jesus is ANNOYED at his
Disciples=he is FRUSTRATED
With them


Where is there faith?
WHERE is ours?


Jesus is ASKING US=in our PURE
Human nature=
To REACH out to the DIVINE
Through PRAYER


Never forget=that Jesus
EXPERIENCED everything in life
That you and I do


“..............so that your FAITH
Might not rest
On HUMAN wisdom


But on GOD'S POWER” 1 Corinthians 2:5


Dear Lord=HELP us to realize
That we are human too=but you
HAD PRAYERS for=and FAITH
In the Father


Help us to REMEMBER
Our HUMANITY=and do the SAME
As you=THROUGH FAITH and PRAYER=
REACH OUT to the Father

NEVER THE SAME=PENTECOST


Once the SPIRIT comes=
We will NEVER
Be the SAME=And the Spirit of God=
The Spirit of Jesus
Is UPON us today


Just as it was
On the APOSTLES=some
Two thousand years ago


“And there came
From the SKY
A noise
Like a STRONG driving wind


And it FILLED the
Entire house
In which they were” Acts 2:2


The apostles were LIVING SCARED=
Cautious lives after
Jesus ascended


They had
RETURNED to Jerusalem
And were living CAREFUL-cautious lives
In the UPPER ROOM


But after the SPIRIT came today
They were NO longer afraid
As we are no longer afraid
To LIVE our our CHRISTIAN LIVES


They were=we are=APOSTLES
Let the SPIRIT COME


NEVER THE SAME=PENTECOST!














“Teach me
To do your will
For you are MY GOD


Lead me=on level ground” Psalm 143:10


“.........till the SPIRIT
Is POURED on us
From on high


And the desert
BECOMES a fertile field


And the fertile field

Give the HOLY SPIRIT

BE BOLD=ask for the

Once we RECEIVE the Spirit
We are=NEVER THE SAME
We are DISCIPLES of
The Lord=after PENTECOST!


We are encouraged! We are BOLD!


After Pentecost=the apostles
Were CAUTIOUS no more
They were=NEVER the same


NEITHER should we be
They had a MISSION!
We have a mission=
To SHARE the good news
Of the LORD!


“Now if we are CHILDREN
Then we are HEIRS--------
Heirs of God


And co-heirs of Christ
If indeed=we SHARE
In his suffering


In order that we
May also=SHARE
In his GLORY” Romans 8:17


COME HOLY SPIRIT!
Settle in our HEARTS


So that we are and
NEVER WILL BE THE SAME
After Pentecost!

JEALOUSY=WORRY ABOUT YOURSELVES


There is a terrible EMOTION
And it REGISTERS when
We start to COMPARE ourselves
To others=instead of
WORRYING about ourselves
And our own affairs


And it is called JEALOUSY


TODAY=we see it
Even RAISES its ugly head
Among the apostles=when Peter
Was CONCERNED about John


But Jesus puts Peter
IN his place
“What CONCERN is it
Of yours? You FOLLOW ME” John 21:22


Peter was CONCERNED
That Jesus LOVED John
More than ALL
The other apostles


And isn't that
The WAY it is with us
WHEN someone else
Gets that great job=
That brand new house=
Or car


That we
ALWAYS WANTED


JEALOUSY!=WORRY
ABOUT YOURSELVES


“How long Lord?
Will you be angry?
FOREVER?


How long=will your JEALOUSY
Burn like fire?” Psalm 79:5


“Anger is cruel=and
Fury overwhelming


But who can stand
Before JEALOUSY? Proverbs 27:4


JESUS was having
NONE of it=from Peter


His RESPONSE to Peter=
And to us
Is CUTTING to the bone


Jesus is SAYING=
“MIND your own business=
KEEP your mind on
Your own business=
WORRY about yourself”


Let us KEEP our minds
On Jesus
Let us FOLLOW HIM
In deep love


“Surely your GOODNESS
And LOVE
Will FOLLOW me

WHATEVER we want to BE

Lived a life

As we AGE


Age catches UP to us all=
But as it is=we

LIVE a life

As it happens
We KNOW Peter
GLORIFIED God in life

That glorifies Jesus/

I RESPECT all religions

Should REIGN in this world

WHY gaze in envy

At the mountain


WHERE God chooses
To REIGN
Where the Lord himself

AN EMPTY SPACE=THE LONGING FOR GOD

AN EMPTY SPACE=

We all know that
EMPTY APACE=that empty FEELING
When we LOSE someone
We KNOW=
We are NEVER
GOING to see again


We LONG for them=as we
LONG FOR GOD
Each and every day
Of our lives


Today=in Saint Luke's PASSAGE=
We get a MOVING ACCOIUNT
Of intimacy and FAREWELL


Paul's fellow CHRISTIANS
Are distressed as they TAKE HIM
To his ship


He has just told them
That they will NEVER
See him again


“They were all
Weeping loudly


As they threw their arms
Around Paul
And kissed him” Acts 20:37


I am SURE they felt
That EMPTY SPACE
In the coming days and weeks
For Saint Paul


As I CONTINUE to feel
That empty space=for my
Mother and FATHER=it
Aches terribly


The ONLY thing
That gets us THROUGH it is
That LONGING FOR GOD=
Who never ever=abandons us


“My soul is CONSUMED
With LONGING for your laws
At all times” Psalm 119:20


“A LONGING fulfilled
Is SWEET
To the soul


But fools detest
Turning from evil” Proverbs 13:19


“He told us
About your LONGING for me


Your deep sorrow
Your ardent CONCERN for me


So that my JOY
Was greater than ever” 2 Corinthians 7:7


We see that
Same EMPTY SPACE
Between the Ascension
And Pentecost


At the ASCENSION
Jesus' disciples
See him DEPART from them
Once again


They feel that
SAME EMPTINESS
That we sometimes feel
In our RELATIONSHIP
With Jesus


“So is my WORD
That goes
From my mouth
It will not return
To me EMPTY


But will ACCOMPLISH
What I desire
And ACHIEVE the purpose
For which I sent it” Isaiah 55:11


SOON that empty space
Will be FILLED


At PENTECOST=we will acquiesce=to
Our LONGING FOR GOD


And the DWELLING PLACE of the
HOLY SPIRIT=will be living FOREVER=
INSIDE OF US

TODAY we read about Saint Paul
And his TOUCHING farewell speech
To Ephesus=ACKNOWLEDGING that he would
PROBABLY never see them again

I am GOING to Jerusalem” Acts 20:22


SAYING GOODBYE=
Where the SPIRIT LEADS


Those who gathered
Were all=DEEPLY MOVED
By Paul's presence


Because his PREACHING
Had CHANGED their lives


“They were all weeping LOUDLY-
As they threw their arms
Around Paul
And kissed him” Acts 22:37


WHERE the Spirit leads


Like Saint Paul=people today=
Make DECISIONS=that lead them
To other lands


LIFE leads them elsewhere
Saying GOODBYE=is always difficult
In life


WHERE THE SPIRIT LEADS!


“He makes me lie down
In green pastures
He LEADS ME
Beside quiet waters” Psalm 23:2


“The fear of the Lord
LEADS to LIFE


Then one rests CONTENT
Untouched by trouble” Proverbs 19:23

That you have been SET FREE

Slaves to God


The BENEFIT that you reap
LEADS to holiness
And the result
IS ETERNAL LIFE” Romans 6:22


We say GOODBYE in this life
For many REASONS


Change in job=
Illness or death=
DEPLOYMENT in the service=
And on and on and on


But it always=LEADS=
To new beginnings


WHERE the SPIRIT LEADS!

A PURE HEART=O God

A steadfast spirit

“The SPIRIT of the
SOVEREIGN Lord=is on me
Because the Lord


Has anointed me
To PROCLAIM

Dear Lord=HELP US to PRAY

And the place

They don't need
To go to church


They say
“I FIND God in nature”

“I PRAY on my own”


That may be FINE for you
But NOT for me=I NEED
To feel the
The presence of GOD
And to FEEL
The PRESENCE of Jesus


Jesus PROMISED to be
With us=where two or THREE
Are GATHERED in his name


“For WHERE two or three
GATHER in my name
There I AM with them” Matthew 18:20


And he PROMISED US
To leave with us
The GIFT of the HOLY SPIRIT
To GUIDE us


I really STRONGLY FEEL
The presence
Of the Holy Spirit
Even more so when
I am IN CHURCH


And ALL the FRUITS of the SPIRIT=
“But the FRUIT of the Spirit=
Is love=joy=peace=forbearance=
KINDNESS=goodness=faithfulness=
Gentleness and self-control” Galatians 5:22-23


So WHY do we go to
CHURCH? We go there
For COMMUNITY


To be there
To SUPPORT one another
In the LOVE of Jesus Christ


The COMMUNITY CONTINUES
The work of God and the work
Of Jesus Christ


The Church is NOT a building
But a=THE DYNAMIC PRESENCE
Of Jesus
AMONG his followers


“..........a false witness
Who pours out lies
And a person


Stirs up conflict
In the COMMUNITY” Proverbs 6:19
(ONE of the SIX things the LORD HATES)


But the FOLLOWERS of Jesus
The COMMUNITY of the CHURCH
Is there
To build up UNITY=and to
FURTHER CHRIST'S and GOD'S work
In this world


YES=my FAVORITE PLACES
To be in this world
Is the CHURCH=
And in my HOME


For in BOTH places
I FEEL the LOVE of the LORD

We are FOREVER

I pick myself up
By reading SCRIPTURE=
Meditating in CHURCH
And PRAYING=or=
WRITING A POEM


TIME spent alone with God=
ALWAYS turns my grief
Back into JOY


“You-Lord=
Are my lamp


The Lord turns my darkness
Into LIGHT” 2 Samuel 22:29


“REMEMBER this:
Whoever TURNS a sinner
From the error
Of their way


Will SAVE them from death
And COVER over
A multitude of sins” James 5:20


I know that the grief
Of this earth
Is TEMPORARY


And I possess a CONFIDENT HOPE

The BODY of Christ..........” Ephesians 4:11-12


WHOEVER we are
Whatever we do


We can OFFER our SERVICES
Up=for the CHURCH
We can BE of service
For the WHOLE COMMUNITY


We can USE our services
To BUILD UP
The WHOLE of the community


There is a PLACE for us
In the REIGN of God
For the service=
Of one another


“Jesus replied=
'NO ONE who puts a hand
To the plow


And LOOKS BACK=is fit
For service
In the kingdom of God'” Luke 9:62


“Therefore=I GLORY in Christ
In MY SERVICE to God” Romans 15:17


“The SERVICE that you perform
Is not only
SUPPLYING the needs
Of the LORD'S people


But is also overflowing
In man expressions
Of thanks=to God” 2 Corinthians 9:12


There is a place
For EACH ONE of us
In the KINGDOM OF GOD


NO MATTER what our service is
We can offer it UP
For the whole of the COMMUNITY


We are invited to LOVE
The world
Just as Jesus did


We are INVITED
To put our TALENTS to use
For the kingdom of God
For the kingdom of CHRIST


“There are
DIFFERENT KINDS of gifts
But the same SPIRIT
Distributes them


There are different kinds
Of SERVICE
But the same Lord


There are
Different kinds of WORKING
But in all of them
And everyone


It is the SAME GOD AT WORK” 1 Corinthians 12:4-6


There is A PLACE=for you
In the kingdom of GOD=
PUT your work=your SERVICE
To use


In BUILDING UP
The KINGDOM of God


In the names of Jesus and his LOVING FATHER

BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING

BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING


When BAD things happen
In our lives=NO ONE
Really likes to hear


“EVERYTHING happens for a REASON”
The TRUTH is=we want someone
To SIT with us and
FACE the unknown
With us


That is WHAT Jesus would
Have done=in fact=that is
What he does=when we
Are facing DIFFICULT TIMES


“Jesus said to his disciples
'I have much more
To tell you


But you CANNOT
Bear it now” John 16:12


The DIVINE LOVE
Of Jesus=tells us
That one day


We WILL have an answer
To all our questions


But maybe=right now
The answers are BEYOND
Our grasp


The answers are BEYOND
Our CURRENT UNDERSTANDING


“I run in the path
Of your commands


For you have
BROADENED MY UNDERSTANDING” Psalm 119:32


“Get wisdom=get UNDERSTANDING
Do not
Forget my words


Or turn away
From them” Proverbs 4:5


“They MAY be ever seeing
But never perceiving
And ever hearing


But NEVER UNDERSTANDING
Otherwise they might turn away
And be forgiven” Mark 4:12


UNFORTUNATELY=terrible thins
Do HAPPEN in life
Jesus' plan is to
SIT with us
To WALK with us


To give us the DIVINE LOVE
That one day
Will HELP US
ANSWER all of our questions


But for right now
GOD'S plan
May be BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING


We sometimes MUST SURRENDER
To God's plan=without
Knowing the answers
That are going to COME


That is the MYSTERIOUS WAY
Of the Lord=yet
We must never stop believing=
NEVER stop TRUSTING in God and Jesus


“He came as a WITNESS
To TESTIFY
Concerning the light


So that through him
ALL might BELIEVE” John 1:7


Dear Lord=your ways
Are MYSTERIOUS


Help us to BELIEVE
And to TRUST in you
Even WHEN the answers
To our questions in life
Are BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING


In Jesus' name and in the name
Of his ALL LOVING FATHER

THE TRANSFORMING LOVE OF GOD AND CHRIST

THE TRANSFORMING LOVE=

OF GOD AND CHRIST

God's love=Jesus' LOVE=

Are TRANSFORMING=for all of us

ALL types of people

In this world

We see this today=in the STORY=

In the jailing of Paul and Silas

The guards and prisoners ALIKE=

PROCLAIM the transforming love

Of the Lord Jesus

The JAILER drew his sword=and

Was going to kill HIMSELF

But Paul intervened

“But Paul SHOUTED in

A loud voice=

'Do NO HARM to yourself

We are all STILL HERE'” Acts 16:28

“The jailer called for LIGHTS

Rushed in=and fell trembling

BEFORE Paul and Silas

He then brought them out

And ASKED=

'SIRS=what must I do

To be SAVED?'” Acts 16:29-30

Later he was=the JAILER was=BAPTIZED

And we see the

TRANSFORMING LOVE of Jesus

Even in his death

At his crucifixion=he gains

TWO WITNESSES

ONE of the criminals

Dying BESIDE him says=

“Jesus=REMEMBER ME when you

Come in to your KINGDOM” Luke 23:42

And the soldier GUARING

The dying prisoners=said

“TRULY this man

Was the SON OF GOD” Mark 15:39

HOW has God=how has JESUS

TRANSFORMED your life?=

Are you a witness for

Him today?

Like the criminal=like the guard

Are you WILLING to TESTIFY=for him=

To the ENDS of the earth?

The LORD has transformed my life

And there is NOTHING=

That I would not DO for him

“Do not

CONFORM to the pattern

Of this world

But be TRANSFORMED

By the RENEWING

Of your mind

THEN you will be able

To test and APPROVE

What GOD'S WILL IS

His good=pleasing=

And PERFECT WILL” Romans 12:2

God has transformed my life=

Has he TRANSFORMED YOURS?

God's transforming love=not only SHOWS

Where injustice lies=but it RESCUES US

It CHANGES US=there is no one

That is BEYOND the TRANSFORMING LOVE

Of God and Jesus

In Jesus' name and the NAME of his ALL LOVING FATHER

DEEPLY AND HONESTLY

DEEPLY AND HONESTLY


Throughout history people have
KILLED each other
In the name of GOD

DEEPLY and HONESTLY=I can tell you

That this is WRONG=no matter

What religion you are=

NO MATTER what

Your beliefs are

If GOD IS LOVE=and he is=

HOW can you kill someone

In the NAME of love

It is AMORAL

Jesus said

“...............the HOUR is coming

When everyone who kills you

Will THINK he is

Offering=WORSHIP to God” John 16:2

PERHAPS it was an observation

Or a prediction

About his very own life

EVERY religion=every faith

At some time=or another

Has KILLED in the name of God

And it is NOT RIGHT=

No religion or group=has been

Immune to this

Perhaps that is WHY=I like

To BELIEVE=that I belong

To God=Or Jesus

Rather than any particular religion=

The GOD of LOVE=the God of Jesus

What we ALL aspire to be=

PERFECT LOVE=just like Jesus

“How PRICELESS

Is your UNFAILING LOVE

O God!

People take refuge

In the shadow

Of your wings” Psalm 36:7

“Hatred stirs up CONFLICT

But LOVE COVERS OVER

All wrongs” Proverbs 10:12

“A NEW command

I give you=

LOVE ONE ANOTHER

As I have loved you

So you must LOVE one another

By this everyone

Will know that you

Are my DISCIPLES

If you LOVE ONE ANOTHER” John 13:34-35

IT does NOT matter

What faith that you claim

You do NOT know God

You do not know Jesus

If you are killing

As an ACT of worship

You have MISSED

The message of GOD

The MESSAGE of LOVE

“They STUMBLE

Because they disobey

The MESSAGE----------------

Which is also

What they were DESTINED for” 1 Peter 2:8

Jesus' MESSAGE OF LOVE

Calls for each of us----------------

DEEPLY AND HONESTLY

To REFLECT on our own attitudes

Towards others

Particularly others of different

Nationalities and religions

ALWAYS in the name of Jesus and OUR ALL LOVING GOD
