LINES 1-2=THE PARABLE OF=The boiling cauldron

 

The story of=THE SIEGE=of Jerusalem

Ie.    9^th year=10^th month=10^th day

 

-The NATION CHANGING=Life Changing event

Ie.   LIKE 911=IN the United States

 

The KING=of Babylon=STARTS siege of Jerusalem

 

-The  final siege=and conquest=and destruction Of JERUSALEM

 

LINES 3-5

Jerusalem=Is like a cooking pot=A BOILING CAULDRON

 

?able=Whether Ezekiel acted out=or told the story

Ie.   A cooking pot=With water and pieces of meat

 

BOILED WELL=Fire feeding bones=Continue simmering and cooking

 

LINES 6-8

WOE to=The city of Jerusalem

(Nebuchadnezzar=BEGINNIG attack of Jerusalem)

 

A BLOODY CITY=in two ways

 

WHERE INNOCENT BLOOD=had been shed=Under Authority

-The city=where MUCH BLOOD=would be SHED=Under Nebuchadnezzar’s attack

 

As Jerusalem=BOILED AND COOKED=Jerusalem’s worst qualities

Would BECOME EVIDENT TO EVERYONE

 

-The death and BLOODSHED coming=Would prevent proper burial

- The dead bodies=would be=HORIFICALLY EXPOSED

Ie.    GOD’S fury and vengeance

 

LINES 9-13

FURTHER WOE=TO THE CITY

 

WOE to the bloody city

Much more WOE to come=NOT the end

 

-FIRE under cooking pot=Called PYRE=dead bodies

 

-ALL of Jerusalem’s INIQUITIES=Scum

Would be CONSUMED=In the coming judgment

 

God SENT these things=to CLEANSE his people

 

Ie.   Temple=Sanctuary=feasts=and priesthood

 

But people=WERE NOT CLEANSED

Now GOD’S FURY=and JUDGMENT were coming

 

LINE 14=THE CERTAINTY=of God’s PRONOUNCEMENT

 

-THE LORD=SPOKE JUDGMENT=and it would =COME TO PASS

(UNDER GOD’S COVENANT=at MOUNT Sinai)

 

Israel would be JUDGED=because of their WICKED deeds and ways

 

LINES 15-17

THE DEATH OF Ezekiel’s wife

(God told Ezekiel=HOW he must act=When his wife died)

 

God calls Ezekiel’s wife=”THE DESIRE OF YOUR EYES”

-She would die suddenly=and UNEXPECTEDLY

 

It is a TEST FROM GOD=for the Prophet’s patience

-Ezekiel was NOT to mourn=Nor to weep

NO VISIBLE signs of mourning=Was PERMITTED by God

For Ezekiel

 

LINE 18-19

THE DEATH OF Ezekiel’s wife

-a GREAT LOSS to Ezekiel

 

Ezekiel told the people in the morning=HIS WIFE WOULD DIE

-Ezekiel’s loss deeply AFFECTED HIM

 

THE next morning Ezekiel=did as commanded

-Ezekiel HONORED GOD=by  not crying or weeping

 

The people were=SHOCKED AND MYSTIFIED=

By Ezekiel’s loss and strange behavior

 

LINES 20-24

GOD EXPLAINS the sign to the PEOPLE

 

? Death WITHOUT=The ability to mourn

 

Ezekiel’s behavior=had a DIVINE PURPOSE

Ezekiel=had the ANSWER=from the Holy Spirit=and

It was NOT fate=chance=or ignorance

 

A COMPARISON=with Ezekiel’s wife’s death

 

THE SANCTUARY=would suddenly and SOON PERISH

-The sons and daughters=of the people=LEFT BEHIND=would die

By the sword

 

The people were to  DO=what Ezekiel did=NOT MOURN

Babylonian CULTURE=would hinder it too

-God’s constant PURPOSE=was for the people

 

THE REVELATION of God=was in=ALL their  UNEXPLAINED SORROW

 

LINES 25-27

GOD EXPLAINS THE SIGN=to Ezekiel

 

I take from=THE DESIRE OF THEIR EYES

The TEMPLE=and all else=they hold dear=WOULD BE TAKEN AWAY

 

-They would be CONQUERED AND DESTROYED=and when

THE DESTRUCTION was final=they would=NO LONGER BE MUTE

 

You will SPEAK=and no longer be MUTE=an Ezekiel would assume

A much MORE HOPEFUL TONE=Now

GOD could REBUILD in hope

 

The ultimate RESTORATION=would be GLORIOUS

 

In the end=The PROPHET and his GOD(and the covenant)

Would be VINDICATED AND REVEALED!
