Ps        FAITH is defined as trust in and reliance on GOD

 

“Abraham believed the Lord, and he credited to him as righteousness”         Genesis 15:6

 

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness-and all these things

Will be given to you as well-therefore do NOT worry about tomorrow

For tomorrow will worry about itself-

EACH DAY has enough trouble of its own”                                             Matthew 6:33-34

The question becomes

How are we going to provide for them

 

Don’t worry

God will provide for them

 

It may not be

What you want

But it will be

What you need

 

How do we know

We know-because the Bible tells us so

 

God will provide

 

In Genesis 22

God tells Abraham

To sacrifice his son Isaac

 

Isaac-the boy-says to his father

“Father?”

“Yes my son,” says Abraham

 

“The fire and wood are here

But where is the lamb

For the burnt offering”

 

Oh-how Abraham’s heart

Must have been breaking

 

Yet-with FAITH-he says

“God himself

Will provide the lamb for the burnt offering

My son”

 

Abraham and Isaac

Went out together

 

Abraham laid his son Isaac

On the altar

But the angel called out-

“Abraham-Abraham”

 

“Here I am,” Abraham replied

 

“Do not lay a hand

On the boy,” the angel said

“Do no do anything to him

Now I know

You fear God

Because you have not

Withheld from me your son

Your only son”

 

Abraham looked up

And saw a ram

Caught by its horns

 

GOD WILL PROVIDE

 

And when

It was time

To pay for the sins of the world

God PROVIDED the sacrifice again

 

HIS ONE AND ONLY SON

 

“For God so loved the world

That he gave his one and only son

That whoever believes in him

Shall not perish

But have ETERNAL LIFE”                                                                  John 3:16

 

God’s LOVE is contagious

God’s KINDNESS is overwhelming

God’s COMPASSION for us

Is unlimited

 

So you have needs

I have needs

This world has so many needs

 

We needn’t worry

A REMINDER OF WHO WE ARE

 

 

Sometimes

We need not be instructed

So much

As reminded

As to who we are

 

 

We need to be

CONSTANTLY reminded

That we are

CHILDREN OF GOD

 

“Yet to all

Who received him

To those

Who believed in his name

He gave the right

To become children of God-

 

Children born

Not of natural descent

-nor of human decision

Or a husband’s will

BUT BORN OF GOD”                                         1 Luke:12-13

 

We need

To hear again and again

That we are

CHILDREN OF GOD

That Christ

Gave his body-soul-and spirit

For ALL of us

 

In the Epistle of Saint Paul

We hear the term-

“IN CHRIST”-155 times

 

“So “in Christ” all will be made alive”                 1 Corinthians 15:22

 

Christ didn’t live and die for the Jewish faith

For the Catholic faith

For the Christian faith

BUT FOR ALL

 

“These are a shadow

Of the things

That were to come

 

The reality-however

Is found IN CHRIST”                                             Colossians 2:17

 

And on and on and on

 

Truly Children of God

IN CHRIST

 

Life-by definition-must be lived

And the reality is

That God is in each of us

That God’s life is in us

And that God is our FATHER

 

The reality is

That God is MADLY in love with you

That he is living in you

And he loves you

“Like there is no one else”

 

He gives us his heart

And he gives us a home

He prepares a place

For us to come and live with him

At the end of our lives

 

                   HEAVEN

 

A place

Where we can

Live in perfect happiness

And in eternal communion with HIM

 

“Their mind is on earthly things

But our citizenship is in heaven”                                       Philippians 3:19-20

 

We are heirs

Truly heirs

To the Kingdom of God

 

There once was a nurse

Who married a common man

During the war

 

After the war

She found out

He was Lord of the manor

With servants

And endless wealth

 

And she cried

And she cried

TEARS OF JOY

 

“Why didn’t you tell me?” she said

“I wanted you to love me for myself,” he responded

 

And that

Is how we will be

When we-CHILDREN OF GOD

Enter our home with our Father

 

“The spirit himself

Testifies that we are God’s children”                                         Romans 8:16

 

Now if we are God’s children

Then we are his heirs

Heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ

And if indeed we share in his sufferings

We will ALSO SHARE in his glory

PRAYER OF FAITH

 

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve 

But I was made weak, that I might humbly obey

 

I asked for health, that I might do great things

I was given infirmity, that I might know what is great

 

I asked God for riches, that I might be happy                                           

But I was given poverty, that I might be wise

 

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God

 

I asked God for all things, that I might enjoy life

But I was given life, that I might enjoy all things

 

I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I needed

Almost in spite of myself, my prayers were answered

And our Jesus=WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU=Want to praise you=and want to

ACKNOWLEDGE all of your efforts==Our God OF LOVE=of Courage=and of MIRACLES=

NEVER want you to quit=God and OTHERS=want to encourage you=I DO TOO!

A HUMAN DESIRE=That is a DESIRE=That we all have=But you don’t know=I don’t know=

ONLY the Father God of LOVE=and his SON Jesus KNOW=Who will be saved?=It is

THE ONLY THING=THAT REALLY MATTERS=In this much too complex world=”Someone asked Jesus=’Are only=a few people=GOING TO BE SAVED’”                                                                         Luke 13:23

“Jesus said to them=’Make every effort=To enter through=the narrow door=Because MANY

I tell you=WILL try to enter=and NOT BE ABLE TOO’”                                                                      Luke 13:24

 

We can NOT KNOW=when ONE of us=WILL BE SAVED=and IF in fact we will=Because

SALVATION=Comes from the Holy Father God=and HIS SON=We know this=Our God is

A GOD OF LOVE=and he has a DESIRE=to save all of us=GOD’S VISION of love=God’s vision=

“Of who is saved”=is DIVINE=and it TRANSCENDS our limited vision of LOVE=WHO WILL BE SAVED?=Will I?=Will you?=BE SAVED=IT IS=THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS!

“This poor man called=and the Lord Heard him=He saved him=OUT of all his troubles”   Psalm 34:6

“Turn to me=AND BE SAVED=all you end of the earth=FOR I AM GOD=and there is=

NO OTHER”                                                                                                                                                           Isaiah 45:22

 

The one thing we know=That in THE NEXT WORLD=some that who were LAST=In this

World=will be first=and some who first=will be LAST=Maybe not even make the next world=

And that FAITH and TRUST=In our ever LOVING God the Father and his SON=TRUSTING

In God=Is the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS=Really matters=Will  you?=Will I be saved?

“Everyone will hate you=BECAUSE of me=But the one=who stands firm=Until  the end=

To find God

In your life

What is your story?

What is your testimony?

Are you seeing God in your life?

In others?

In your neighbor?

Even in your enemies?

Even in the bad things

That happen in your life?

 

Because my friend

God is everywhere

He is everyone

He is everything

 

Because my testimony-my friend

Is that GOD is in you

God is in me

 

Every time you love someone

Every time you forgive someone

Every time you perform an act of kindness for someone

You are acting like God

 

Whoever you are

I want you to know that

Like it or not

Some for medical reasons

Some for vacation

And often times-just to see family or friends

 

And we all PACK differently

Some heavy

Some medium

Jesus instructed his disciples:

“Take nothing for the journey

Except a staff-

NO bread-no bag-no money

In your belts

 

Wear sandals

But not an extra tunic

 

Whenever you enter a house

Stay there

Until you leave that town

And if any place

Will not welcome you

Or listen to you

 

Shake the dust

Off your feet

When you leave

As a testimony against them”                                               Mark 6:8-11

 

TRAVEL LIGHT

 

But I think

More so than that

What Jesus was REALLY TALKIN ABOUT

Was our spiritual and emotional baggage

 

And let’s BE HONEST

We are ALL carrying baggage

From our past

Some heavy

Some medium

Some light

 

The LESS we carry with us

The easier

To navigate our own spiritual journey

And the more

We are CAPABLE of helping others

Carry theirs

 

“CARRY each other’s burdens

And in this way

You will FULFILL the law of Christ”

 

We are WEIGHED down

With too much stuff

Too many hard memories

Too many fears

 

TRAVEL LIGHT

 

Well

Life is a journey

And the BEST

We can hope for

Is to shake off

The dust of those

Who have been UNKIND to us

And to TRUST GOD

That what we need

Will be provided

GOD LIVES

IN THE ETERNAL NOW

 

Once and once only

GOD-in the person of JESUS CHRIST

Came out of time and eternity

And walked the dusty back streets-trails-and hills

Of Bethlehem-Jerusalem

And many other cities

Of the old Israel

 

Jesus told us

Told the world

That he-and his Father

ARE the great I AM

 

NOT in the past

NOT in the future

IN the eternal now

 

Long after you and I are gone

He will STILL BE

THE GREAT I AM

 

I AM

Is mentioned 719 times in the Bible

508 times in the Old Testament

And 211 times in the New Testament

 

Not I was

Not I will be

I AM

 

“Moses said to God,

“Suppose I go to the Israelites

And say to them

‘The God of your Fathers

Has sent me to you’

And they ask me

‘What is his name’

Then what should I tell them”                                                              Exodus 3:13-14

 

“I AM”-THE GOD OF LOVE

For ALL of time

For ALL of eternity

 

“Your throne

Was established long ago

You are from ALL eternity”                                                                  Psalm 93:2

 

And he is

To live in the hearts

Of men and women

Of ALL humanity

Forever and ever

 

“He has made everything beautiful

In its time-He has also set eternity

In the hearts of men

Yet they cannot fathom

What GOD has done

From beginning to end”                                                                          Ecclesiastes 3:11

 

And in the New Testament

We find Jesus

Walking the dusty hills and mountainsides

Saying such things as:

 

“I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE”                                                         John 6:41

 

“I AM the good shepherd-the good shepherd

Lays down his life for his sheep”                                                         John 10:11

 

“I AM THE RESURRECTION and the life

Those who believe in me

Even though they die-WILL LIVE”                                                            John 11:25

 

And so on-and so on-and so on……..

 

OUR GOD-The God of love

The GOD of time and eternity

OUR GOD-with no beginning

OUR GOD-with no end

 

OUR GOD-the GOD of love

For ALL of time

For ALL of eternity

Ezekiel’s prophecy=AGAINST Mount Seir

God’s WORD=against Mount Seir

(ON the EAST side of the JORDAN RIVER=

Was Mount Seir)=The CENTER of the EDOMITES

 

-Descendants of Jacob’s  Brother Esau

(The prophecy against Seir)=but

 

BRINGING Encouragement and HOPE to Israel=and

PART of that HOPE was=God would deal=with Israel’s enemies

Ie. Edom

 

Lines 3b-4

The announcement of JUDGMENT=and for

THE 4^th TIME=Yahweh  tells Edom=He is AGAINST THEM

 

God PROMISES=destruction and desolation=to the

Cities of Edom=and in way=That would show=HE=

Yahweh=IS THE LORD

 

LINES 5-9

THE REASONS=For GOD’S JUDGMENT=against Edom

 

Because of their=ANCIENT HATRED=Edom’s

Ancient hatred of Israel

 

It is GOD’S JOB=TO JUDGE SINS=Against peoples=races and NATIONS

 

-And people that=had SHED THE BLOOD=

Of ancient Israel=By TAKING advantage of them=

Ie.   WHEN they were wounded already=A CONTINUING INSULT

 

Edom had SHED=Israel’s blood=ON the MOUNTAINS of Edom

God would FILL Edom’s mountains=WITH THEIR SLAIN

 

-And their cities=Would become UNINHABITED and desolate

 

LINES 10-13

BECAUSE OF THEIR JEALOUSY-

 

When Babylon=came against ISRAEL(Judah and Jerusalem)

 

INSTEAD of helping Israel=Or sympathizing=They TRIED

To take advantage Of Isreal

 

The EDOMITES THOUGHT=Judah and Israel=was theirs

FOR THE TAKING=Since Babylon conquered=Even though

The LORD=was with them

 

Go promised to ANSWER=THE ANGER and the envy=Of Edom

Against Israel=With his OWN=anger and envy=AGAINST THEM

 

Edom INSULTED God=by trying to TAKE ADVANTAGE

Of troubled Israel

 

-They BOASTED against Yahweh=and God would

HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE

 

LINES 14-15

THE JOY of the earth=WHEN Edom is JUDGED

 

-Edom REJOICED=in Israel-s desolation=so God

WOULD bring desolation to Edom-and be

 

HAPPY about it=For the punishment=FITS THE CRIME

They will KNOW=Edom will know=I am the LORD!

 

God WOULD REVEAL HIMSELF to Edom=and a WATCHING WORLD

GOD’S WORD to=THE SHEPHERD=Of his people

LINES 1-2=THE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST

The shepherds of ISRAEL

 

-A SHEPHERD means a KING or a prince

(Ie. Near East)

 

Joshua=Civic leader Example=King David also an EXAMPLE

 

The IDEA here=IS a SPIRITUAL LEADER

Jeremiah=was a SHEPHERD TO =?Ezekiel

 

-The LORD Jesus=IS THE PERFECT SHEPHERD

(But WOE to the SHEPHERDS=who feed themselves)

 

GODLY SHEPHERDS=Must SERVE=for the benefit of THE FLOCK

NOT themselves

 

LINES 3-4=THE GREED OF

The UNFAITHFUL shepherds=of Israel

 

The CIVIC and  spiritual LEADERS=Of Isreal=

EXPLOITED their flock=Without CARING for them

 

Not necessarily wrong=BUT to make a living doing it

WITHOUT LOVE and caring=is wrong

 

SHEPHERDS=should feed their flock=BY FAITHFULLY TEACHING them

The WORD OF GOD

Ie.=GOD’S WORD=should be=their BREAD

 

The unfaithful shepherd=DOES NOT CARE=about the NEEDS

Of their FLOCK

 

THE GODLY SHEPHERD=is like a GOOD DOCTOR=Able to diagnose

The CONDITION of the sheep=and strengthen them

 

INSTEAD OF CARE=wisdom and compassion=the unfaithful shepherd

USES FORCE and cruelty

 

LINES 5-6

THE RESULT of the WORK=of the UNFAITHFUL SHEPHERD

 

The sheep were SCATTERED=Because there was NO SHEPHERD

 

Ezekiel said=THIS WAS NOT GOOD=for the sheep

THE RESULT=The scattered flock=Became FOOD=FOR THE BEASTS

Ie.   UNFAITHFUL SHEPHERD=flock suffers

 

God stated twice=

THE FLOCK=BELONGS TO HIM!=NOT to=

The civic and SPIRITUAL SHEPHERDS

 

SADNESS=FEW godly shepherds

Searching to LEAD THE FLOCK

 

LINES 7-10=GOD PROMISES to=HOLD  the unfaithful shepherds to account

 

GOD WOULD CORRECT=The unfaithful shepherds=

They could NOT do it themselves

 

GOD’S FLOCK=Became the sheep=for the shepherds

DID NOT SEARCH for them=But God still DID SEARCH for

THE LOST SHEEP

 

The shepherds FED THEMSELVES=and NOT the flock

They were NOT true shepherds=But more like beasts

 

-God PROMISES to deal=with the UNGODLY SHEPHERDS

 

LINES  11-16

GOD PROMISES=to do the work=

THE UNFAITHFUL shepherds would not do

 

-GOD HIMSELF=would SEARCH=for the lost sheep=and

DEAL with the UNFAITHFUL SHEPHERDS

 

-God would COME DOWN=and seek out=and CARE  for

The LOST SHEEP HIMSELF=FINALLY

Ie.    The work would BE FULFILLED=IN JESUS CHRIST

 

Ezekiel=a PARTIAL FULFILLMENT=In the return from exile

-But still AWAITING=FULL Fulfilment=Ie. End of the exiles

 

GOD PROMISED to=RESTORE ISRAEL

Ie=started 1800’s=1948 the state of ISRAEL=But yet to be

FULLY FULFILLED

 

THE RESTORATION=would be geographical and physical

 

-The land FULFILLMENT=is further along=than the spiritual fulfillment

-WHAT the unfaithful shepherds would not do=

GOD WOULD DO HIMSELF!

 

-God would JUDGE the proud-a cleansing was COMING

To God’s  people=IN GOD’S JUDGMENT

 

LINES 17-19

DON’T TRAMPLE the pasture=and the foul water

 

Yahweh=gave a SEVERE REBUKE=to the unfaithful shepherds

GOD would make the DISTINCTION=among the sheep

Ie.=GREAT RESPONSIBILITY=some responsibility=NO RESPONSIBILITY

 

-GOD’S CHARGE to the sheep=was that they=TREAD DOWN

Ie.   The already eaten pasture=RUING IT for the future

 

-They SPOILED=The pasture=and the water=for the coming SHEEP

Ie.   UNSUSTAINABLE PASTURES=Muddied waters=for future sheep=Because of

Their unconscionable actions

 

LINES 20-24

GOD WILL PROTECT HIS FLOCK=Against

Renegade sheep

 

God would judge=The fat and the lean sheep

-The “FAT” sheep=Thought they were BETTER than

The other sheep

 

They THREW their weight around=and made the LEAN SHEEP

Leave the pasture=and scatter

 

-God would SECURE his sheep=from the UNFAITHFUL SHEEP

AND REVEAL HIMSELF

 

NEW COVENANT=DAVID=and FINALLY JESUS

I=will BE their Lord=First David=then Jesus

 

LINES 25-30

GOD PROMISES=to BRING BLESSINGS and SECURITY=to his flock

 

-A COVENANT of peace with them=FOUND IN Isaiah and Jeremiah

THE MILLENIUM KINGDOM=Ie.    THE NEW COVENANT

 

MILLENIUM BEASTS GONE=SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS

Curse lifted=from the earth

 

They would dwell SAFELY=NO ONE would make them afraid

Ie.   GOD WOULD PROVIDE=for all their NEEDS

Israel would RETURN SAFELY=and would NO LONGER BE PREY

 

GOD would LOVE ISRAEL=and reveal himself to

THE RESTORED GLORY

 

LINE 31=GOD’S ASSURANCE TO HIS FLOCK

-To shepherds and RENEGADE SHEEP

 

In Yahweh’s pasture=You will RESPOND TO

GOD’S CORRECTION=”YOU ARE MINE=I AM YOUR GOD”

 

They could FIND their GLORY=and their RESPONSIBILITY=

In God the FATHER

 

WE are made in GOD’S IMAGE but God is

GREATER than us all
