ARE YOU A FRIEND OF GOD
Are you a friend of God
Before you answer
Let me tell you what James, the Apostle,
And half-brother of
Jesus once wrote,
“You adulterous people
Don’t you know that friendship
Towards the world
Is hatred towards God
Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world
Becomes an enemy of God” James 4:4
So
What does it mean to be a friend of the world
As opposed to God
I believe
It is simply
Putting the love of money and materialism
Over the love of God
And the love of your neighbor
Or putting our own selfish desires
Of the flesh
At the expense of God and family
Or calling ALL miracles----“medical” or scientific miracles
Or putting our own selfish addictions
Over the love of God and family
Let’s be clear
Being a friend to God
Isn’t the absence of money
The absence of our sexuality
Or the absence of medical miracles
In our lives
To be a friend to God
Just means to keep our priorities
In their proper place
ALWAYS keeping God and family
ABOVE everything else
Proverbs 17: 17 tells us,
“A friend loves at all times
And a brother is born in adversity”
So we know
That God LOVES US at all times
Even when we have turned our back on him
He is just waiting for you
Waiting for me
To ask for another chance
We KNOW
That we will get another chance
If we just SINCERELY ask
Matthew 7:7-8 says,
“Ask
And it will be given
to you
Seek and you will find
Knock and the door will be opened to you
For everyone who asks---receives
He who seeks---finds
And to him who knocks
The door will be opened”
And when we get our second chance
We are to follow the commandments
And LIVE by God’s own spirit
“The fruit of the spirit is love,
Joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gentleness, and self-control
Against such things---there is no law” Galatians 5:22-23
My friends
God is our BEST FRIEND
We just have to:
Keep our priorities straight
Follow his commandments
And do our best to live
With the qualities of GOD’S OWN SPIRIT
God is
NOT looking for perfection
Just our best effort
IF we give it
Count yourself
AS A FRIEND OF GOD

WANTS YOU=
To be=A BLESSING TO OTHERS!
The HOLY Father God=and JESUS=Want GREATNESS FOR US!=Not the
WAY=the
WORLD wants greatness=Like wealth and fame=And FORTUNE and
status=God and Jesus=
Want us=TO HAVE the GREATNESS that=COMES FROM HUMILITY=Like
Abraham had-
Like David had=and LIKE Jesus himself had=as well as
COUNTLESS apostles=Disciples=
Prophets and Saints=”I will make YOUR NAME GREAT=so that You
will=
BE A BLESSING”
Genesis 12:2
I AM NOT=You are not=ASKING to become great=But we are
asking=To BE BLESSINGS
For God and Jesus=By being blessings TO OTHERS=The Lord God=Wants us=TO BE=
BLESSINGS to others!
BEFORE we can BECOME A BLESSING for others=We must
RECOGNIZE=that God has=
BLESSED all of us FIRST=We have RECEIVED COUNTLESS BLESSINGS=From
the Holy Father=
God and Jesus=A roof over our head=Food on the table=and
some of us=EVEN WEALTH=But
The MOST IMPORTANT BLESSINGS we=have received are=Life=are
Faith=and are HOPE
AND LOVE=as well as JOY and peace=FAMILY AND FRIENDS=and
that all=ALL OF US are=
Children of God=IF we want to be=COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!=and
PASS them on=to
OTHERS=That is what our FATHER WANTS US=That is what Jesus
wants=For us =TO BE A
BLESSING TO OTHERS!=In whatever way that we CAN BE
“I will make them=and the places surrounding my hill=A
BLESSING=I will send down=
Showers in season=There will be=SHOWERS OF BLESSING”

CAN YOU=Name a few of
your BLESSINGS?=Can you REMEMBER=How God has BLESSED
YOU?=at various times in LIFE?=I CAN!=He has SUSTAINED me
with LIFE=Against overwhelming
Health factors=He SUSTAINS ME even=In my INCAPACITATING chronic pain=He has given
ENOUGH of material blessings=To keep on getting by=Even
though I have no wealth=and he has
GIVEN ME=all these BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS=Women and men=Despite
the fact=I have NO
Significant other=and he has CALLED ME=”A CHILD OF GOD”=and
given me a BEAUTIFUL FAMILY=
With 2 LOVING SISTERS=Aunts=Uncles=Nieces and Cousins=Needless
to say=I AM BLESSED=and
So are you=NEVER forget that fact!
THE least we can do is=TO BE A BLESSING TO OTHERS!=That is
what=The Holy Father God=and
Jesus=Want for us=to be=BLESSINGS TO OTHERS=when we can!

TRANSFIGURATION=and after JESUS’ DEATH AND RESURRECTION=they
SHARED the
BLESSINGS of his life=with the world=”BLESSED is the one=Who
PERSEVERES under trial=
Because having stood the TEST=That person will receive=THE
CROWN OF LIFE=That the
Lord has PROMISED=to
those who love him”

FAST FORWARD some 2,000 years later=WE LIVE in a world=DESPERATELY CLAMORING
For the WORD OF GOD!==for

GOD IS FOREVER!
It seems as though-
Everything is this world
IS TRANSITORY
TIME continues to move on=
Sometimes people even move on
For a variety of reasons
GOD alone lasts
GOD IS FOREVER!=in my heart
And we are=in his
GOD IS FOREVER!
“If you are not trustworthy-
With what belongs=to another
Who will GIVE YOU=what is yours?”
Luke 16:12
We lived in my CHILDHOOD HOME
For 35 or 40 years=but new people
Eventually moved in
My mom and dad are gone now
And I wish the new people well
The point is
This world is TRANSITORY
God is eternal=God alone=LASTS FOREVER
“But the plans of the Lord
STAND FIRM FOREVER=
The purposes of his heart
Through all generations”
Psalm 33:11
“And I will ask
The Father=and he will give you
Another advocate=to help you
AND BE WITH YOU FOREVER”
John 14:16
“Everyone who competes
In the race=goes into strict training
They do it=to get a crown
That will not last
But we do it=To get a crown
THAT WILL LAST FOREVER”

We pay a mortgage=we pay bills
But we move on
EVERYTHING in life is transitory
From GOD’S point of view
He knows what lasts
And it is LOVE=he knows it is
The good INTERIOR QUALITIES
That we BUILD our lives on
ALL possessions are transitory
Love=forgiveness=kindness
Are qualities that last
GOD IS FOREVER!
“Jesus Christ is the same
Yesterday=and today=and FOREVER” Hebrews

Try to keep in mind
That we do NOT only live only on
Earthly things
But we live in
God’s world too
And that each of us
ARE ONE
Of many members=of God’s creation
We are called to
LIVE=in his world forever
GOD IS FOREVER!
Dear Lord=we PRAY
That you help us to REALIZE
That we belong to YOU FOREVER
