TRAVELING LIGHT

 

 

We ALL have to travel

Like it or not

For ONE reason or another

 

Some for work or business reasons

Some for medical reasons

Some for vacation

And often times-just to see family or friends

 

And we all PACK differently

Some heavy

Some medium

Some light

 

Jesus instructed his disciples:

“Take nothing for the journey

Except a staff-

NO bread-no bag-no money

In your belts

 

Wear sandals

But not an extra tunic

 

Whenever you enter a house

Stay there

Until you leave that town

And if any place

Will not welcome you

Or listen to you

 

Shake the dust

Off your feet

When you leave

As a testimony against them”                                               Mark 6:8-11

 

TRAVEL LIGHT

 

But I think

More so than that

What Jesus was REALLY TALKING ABOUT

Was our spiritual and emotional baggage

 

And let’s BE HONEST

We are ALL carrying baggage

Form our past

Some heavy

Some medium

Some light

 

The LESS we carry with us

The easier

To navigate our own spiritual journey

And the more

We are CAPABLE of helping others

Carry theirs

 

“CARRY each other’s burdens

And in this way

You will FULFILL the law of Christ”

 

We are WEIGHED down

With too much stuff

Too many hard memories

Too many fears

 

TRAVEL LIGHT

 

Well

Life is a journey

And the BEST

We can hope for

Is to shake off

The dust of those

Who have been UNKIND to us

And to TRUST GOD

That what we need

Will be provided

And to

 

TRAVEL LIGHT

THE LIFE OF PADRE PIO

 

 

 

 

 

He was born May 25^th, 1887

In Italy

The only Catholic priest in history

To bear the stigmata---the 5 wounds of Christ

 

He was given many gifts by God

Discernment of spirit, prophecy, healing

And as a powerful intercessor for us

Before our God

 

He was

One of the remarkable men

Of the 20^th century

A man with great faith

And spirituality

 

“Truly I say to you

Ask and it will be given to you

Seek and you shall find

Knock and

It will be open to you”

 

In the name of Father Padre Pio

We pray for you

To change

Each of us individually

All of us collectively

And return our world to God

 

“Truly I say to you

If you ask anything of the Father

In my name

He will give it to you”

 

Padre Pio labored endlessly

For the SALVATION of souls

 

“Truly I say to you

Heaven and earth will pass away

But my words

Will pass away”

 

Padre Pio

Was carried home to his heavenly Father---all our Fathers

On September 23^rd, 1968

He was canonized as a Saint on June 16^th, 2002

FINDING/SEEKING=THE GLORIOUS PRESENCE

OF GOD

 

Do you LIKE NATURE?=Do you like=THE GLORIOUS PRESENCE of  God?=I DO!

I love to see=THE WONDEROUS WONDERS of God=Things like BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS=Crystal

Blue skies=smiling moons=RAINBOWS=and the rising sun=God is IN all of us=But

He is nature too=and Psalm 19 says as much=”The heavens declare=The Glory

Of God=THE SKIES proclaim=the work of his hands”                                                                    Psalm 19:2

 

Do you FEEL=God’s presence-IN all of nature?=in all people=That DEFINITE wonderous

PRESENCE of God

“In your relationships=With one another=Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus’=’Who being

In very NATURE God=Did not consider equality=With God=Something to be USED=to

His own advantage”                                                                                                                              Philippians 2:5-6

FINDING/SEEKING out God=In the sun=In the blue oceans and Lakes=and in all People=

SEEING GOD=In everything and=IN EVERYONE!

“What has been done=Will be again=What has been done=Will be done again=There is

Nothing new=UNDER THE SUN”                                                                                                           Ecclesiastes 1:9

Nothing new=Except=the GLORIOUS PRESENCE of God=In All of its WONDERS            

 

WHEN I look at the SKY=I feel the PRESENCE of God=Not just in the sky=and all this Wonderous

NATURE=But in all THE BLESSINGS=God has given me=INCLUDING MY LIFE ITSELF=Feeling

The BLESSINGS of nature=Feeling=THE BLESSINGS OF LIFE!

“I will make them=and the Places surrounding my hill=A BLESSING=I will send= Down showers

In season”                                                                                                                                                   Ezekiel 34:26

“……..For he has been mindful=Of the humble state=Of his servant=From now on=All

Generations=will call me BLESSED”                                                                                                      Luke 1:48

“They took palm branches=and went out to meet him=Shouting’=’Hosanna’=

‘BLESSED is he=Who comes in=The name=Of the Lord!’=’BLESSED is the King

Of Israel’”                                                                                                                                                         John 12:13

 

And so guys=My sisters and my brothers=Maybe like me=WHEN you are having a bad day=

FEELING a little depressed=You will look around and see=THE GLORIOUS PRESENCE of God=

IN the sun=In the moon=The green green grass=That crystal blue water=Maybe even in a

KIND HUMAN BEING=Another  kind soul LIKE YOURSELF

“THE SUN=will NOT harm you by day=Nor the MOON by night”                                               Psalm 121:6

“The SUN will be=Turned to darkness=and the MOON to blood=Before the coming of=

The great and dreadful day=Of the LORD”                                                                                             Joel 2:31

“THE SUN=has one kind of splendor=The MOON another=and the stars another=and STAR

Differs from star in splendor”                                                                                                         1 Corinthians 15:41                      

 

And so my BROTHERS and sisters=The next time=You are having a BAD DAY=Take a LOOK

Around at NATURE=and the beautiful WONDEROUS GIFTS from God=Or another KIND SOUL=

And notice=THE GLORIOUS PRESENCE of God=You will be GLAD you did!

SAINT MATTHEW

 

Today=September 21^st

Is the feast day

Of the great Saint Matthew

Also called Levi

 

He was an apostle

And evangelist=and followed Jesus

When Jesus said=”FOLLOW ME”

 

“As he walked along

He saw Levi=son of Alphaeus

Sitting at the tax collector’s booth

 

‘FOLLOW ME’=Jesus said to him

And Levi got up

And followed him”                                                                                                               Mark 2:14

 

NOT too much of Matthew’s

Later work=is known=but his GOSPEL

Was the FAVORITE GOSPEL

In the early CHURCH

The word “KINGDOM”

Is used fifty-one times

 

His gospel TEACHES

Jesus is the MESSIAH

The LORD=of the world

 

And that the DESTINY of Israel

Is being fulfilled

By the SMALL remnant

Of Jews=who FORMED

The nucleus of the CHRISTIAN CHURCH

 

ONLY in this gospel

Is it=WHERE Jesus gave

To Peter=the keys of the KINGDOM

And calls him the ROCK

The foundation of the EARLY CHURCH

 

“And I tell you

That you are Peter=and on this ROCK

I will build my CHURCH

 

And the gates of Hades

Will NOT overcome it

 

Whatever you bound=on earth

Will be bound in heaven

And whatever you loose

On earth=will be loosed in heaven”                                                                                     Matthew 16:18-19

 

ONLY Matthew

Tells of Peter walking=ON THE WATER                                                                                    Matthew 14:28-31

And of Peter paying the temple tax

For both of them                                                                                                                     Matthew 17:24-27

 

Matthew’s gospel=BRINGS OUT

The dignity of Christ

And of ALL the apostles

 

And his gospel ends with

The proclamation

“AND SURELY I am with you

ALWAYS==to the very end

Of the age”                                                                                                                               Matthew 28:20

 

Dear Lord=today we HONOR

The great apostle=Saint MATTHEW

 

Please help us=FOLLOW YOU

Just as he did=and help bring

THE KINGDOM OF GOD=back to the forefront

Of the world

In this=the 21^st century

 

In the name of Jesus=and the APOSTLES=and our HOLY FATHER GOD!

Bob Hope—the famous comedian

Was once asked  by a woman

In an airport,

 

“Can you say something funny?”

 

“No I can’t,”  Mr. Hope responded

“I don’t have my funny speech writers with me”

 

I guess he didn’t need them after all

 

Another famous man,

The great Catholic Bishop---Bishop Fulton Sheen

Was once asked,

“Do you have speech writers?”

Bishop Sheen responded,

“Well yes I do---

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John”

 

Who are the speech writers

Of your life

 

Your parents---perhaps a trusted sibling

Some close friends

 

I suggest to you

That there are no accidents in life

We become

Who and what we choose to be

Who and what

We surround ourselves with

 

“If you are faithful in small things

You will be faithful in large”

 

For myself---like Bishop Fulton Sheen

The Bible has been

A source of great inspiration for me

 

The Bible has taught me

Of God’s unconditional love for me ( and you )

The Bible has taught me

That I am a child of God

And that my purpose in life

Is to love God

And to love others

 

“There is nothing

 In this world that I can do

To separate me

From the love of God”                                            Romans 8:37 & 38
