A FEW MEN---The Story of Saint John Vianney

Many Catholic priests

Take heavy criticism

In today’s world

Some deservedly so

Many not

John Vianney

Was the son of a farmer

He spent his early life

As a shepherd boy

On his father’s farm

With little formal schooling

At the age of 20

He began his studies

For the priesthood

But his studies

Were interrupted

By a call

To military service

During the French Revolution

Let us always remember

That many of the Catholic priests today

Have dedicated

Their whole life

To a life of service

Dedicated to serving God and others

John Vianney

Was such a man

Dedicated to loving and serving God

And loving and serving others

John was a man

With great humility

He had

Much difficulty with his studies

Particularly Latin

But John

Like many of us

Was a man with a dream

And persisted in following his dream

John had such insight

In to the personal difficulties

Of others

It was said

He had the supernatural gift

Of reading men and women’s hearts

Three times

John left to become a monk

But 3 times he returned

John was

A great preacher and counselor

He excelled

Both inside and outside the confessional

And so today

As Catholic priests

Continue to come under fire

Please remember

That many of these men

Are men of great humility

Men living a simple life

Of dedication

To God and you

Men like Saint John Vianney

The patron Saint

Of parish priests

A man so highly thought of

By his government

That knighthood and the legion of honor

Were attempted to be given to him

But he refused

In Jesus’ name

We pray

That we never forget

True men of honor

Men like Saint JohnVianney

And their contribution

Towards building the Kingdom of God

Life is growing

Life isn’t always knowing

Life is learning

From your previous mistakes

Life is yearning

To be something better

Life is thriving

To reach that unreachable goal

Life is being a fool

And swallowing our pride

But most of all life is living

Each day as it comes

And making the decisions we see fit

Based on our collective experiences

Of our successes and failure

And applying our success to tomorrow

And screening our failures from yesterday

And saying here I am world

You can take me or leave me

I’m getting by the best that I can

Just IMAGINE=The FEAR of Peter and the OTHER APOSTLES today=WHEN high winds

And WAVES=are TOSSING=Their little small BOAT=from side to side=They are just=

PRAYING that the storm=PASSES BY=and then YOUR TEACHER=Your master=WALKS ON

The water=and you SAY to yourself=”WHO is this man-GOD?”=Then he TAKES it=a step

Further=and tells you=TO WALK=On the water too=”Peter said’=’Lord if it is you=Command

Me=to come to you=On the water’=and Jesus said=’COME’” Matthew 14:28-29

Peter and the OTHER APOSTLES=were ROCKED by the storms=and rocked by=THE STORMS

OF LIFE=Just as we all are=But Jesus tells us=”COME TO ME”=Come to Jesus to be Sustained=

WHEN IN DOUBT=When your FAITH=is wavering=as Peter’s was=and He=Jesus will carry you=

THROUGH the storms of LIFE=Jesus always INVITES US=Never commands us to COME=

Come close to Jesus =For he is=”……..Like an eagle=That stirs up its next=and he hovers over=

Its young=That spreads its wings=To catch them=and CARRIES them aloft” Deuteronomy 32:11

“He tends his FLOCK=Like a shepherd=He gathers the lambs=In his arms=and CARRIES them=

Close to his heart=He gently leads those=who have young” Isaiah 40:11

My friends=LIFE’S STORMS=will ROCK your boat too=and those WAVES will be frightening=

Those UNKNOWN health diagnoses=Thise financial setbacks=and ALL those relationship issues=

That LEADS us=to the UNKNOWN=sometimes makes us=Want to curl up=and JUST HIDE=From

The STORMS OF LIFE=But Jesus says to You=”COME TO ME=and to MY FATHER=we will SUSTAIN

You=”And whoever=Does not=CARRY their cross=and follow me=

Cannot be my disciple” Luke 14:27

“CARRY each other’s burdens=and in this way=You will FULFILL=The law=

Of Christ” Galatians 6:2

“The SON=is the radiance of God’s glory=and the EXACT representation of his being=SUSTAINING

All things=By his powerful word” Hebrews 1:3

And so=MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS=Exactly what storms=are ROCKING YOUR BOAT?=

What in life=IS making you FEARFUL?=Like Peter and the other Apostles=Jesus is telling You=

And me=To COME to the HOLY FATHER GOD=and to him=He says=”COME TO ME!”=and so

WHEN your courage and FAITH is waning=The Holy Father God=and HIS SON JESUS CHRIST=

Will help you =To RISE AND STAND=Through the STORMS of your life=Let THE GOD OF LIFE and=

HIS SON sustain you=Through the STORMS!

“You make=YOUR SAVING HELP=my shield=and your right hand SUSTAINS ME=your HELP has=

Made me great” Psalm 18:35

“The Sovereign Lord=has given me=a well-instructed tongue=To know the Word=That SUSTAINS

The weary=He wakens me morning by morning=Wakens MY EAR=To listen like one

Being instructed” Isaiah 50:4

Dear BROTHERS and sisters=you are not alone=When you Face the STORMS OF LIFE=

Jesus is with you=and so is HIS FATHER with you=All you have to do=Is to COME IN FAITH=

To the LORD=and to THE FATHER=OUR God of LOVE=SUSTAINS YOU=Through the STORMS

OF LIFE=in faith

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=OF OUR EVER LOVING=ever Living=Ever SUSTAINING=

TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED

Taking things for granted

Can sometimes leave you stranded

In the corners of your own mind

When things are coming too easily

You lack the ambition to go out and find

The things in life that are meaningful

The things that you should control

You spend too much time worrying

About the things that are insignificant

Namely, what others do and think

When you could be on the brink

Of discovering your own goals

When you’re taking things for granted

And comparing yourself to what the average person does

You are bound to be supplanted

Because you are concentrating on the norm

You’re ignoring your own form

You’re wasting your talent

Your life couldn’t possibly be in balance

You’re just another face in the crowd

But when things are going bad

You begin working for anything that you can get

Until you reach a goal that can’t be met

But you know, when you are concentrating

That could never happen

Somehow, when things are looking bleak

That’s when you reach a peak

If you don’t set lofty goals

And just be average-you know you are a fool

After what you’ve come through

You know-something no one else could do

Don’t be just another face in the crowd

You have to be proud

You know you are something special

You know you got that magic

If you don’t use it-it would be so tragic

Come on-stand tall

Don’t be afraid to fall

Just give it your all

Be the one above the crowd

But be humble in the crowd

Just don’t go taking things for granted

And you won’t be supplanted

And even when things are going well

Keep on forging ahead

The past is the past-so just don’t dwell

Well, enough for now has been said

It is time to go to bed

Tomorrow is another day

REMAINING CALM-IN THE STORMS OF LIFE

One of the biggest things

We NEED to do in life

Is to try and REMAIN CALM

When the difficulties of life

Are threatening our lives

Our relationships

And our livelihoods

Easier said

Than done

“He makes the storm calm

So that the waves are still” Psalm 107:29

STAY CALM

“And behold

There arose a great tempest

In the sea

In as much as the ship

Was covered with waves

But he (Jesus) was asleep” Matthew 8:24

And they woke Jesus

And he said,

“Why are you fearful

You of little faith

Then he arose

And rebuked the winds

And the sea

And there was

A GREAT CALM” Matthew 8:26

Do you ever feel

That way

When you get

That bad health diagnosis

When your finances are falling apart

When your relationship

Or your relationships

Are breaking up

STAY CALM

The Lord our God

Has it under control

Our Lord

Can control the spiritual

And emotional storms of our life

Just as

He can control the physical-like the sea

STAY CALM

Not so easy

Is it

When we confront

Irritating people and irritating situations

It is a CHALLENGE

To keep our thoughts calm

“Search me-oh God

And know my heart

Test me and know

My anxious thoughts” Psalm 139:23

STAY CALM
And STAY CONNECTED

To the Lord

And you will

Come out victorious

With our Lord-LEADING the way

“STAY CALM

The Lord KNOWS the thoughts of man” Psalm 94:11

STAY CALM-in the storms of life

And REST on the POWER OF GOD

IT ALL BEGAN WITH YOU

48 years ago

As I lie dying

Someone gave up their life for me

And ever since

I have been trying

To live up to that hope

He had in me

48 years ago

Someone gave me another chance

Someone took a stance

And it gave me a chance

To try and find myself

And reach for that

Impossible goal

Someone helped me begin anew

And it all began with you

The 2 LOAVES and the Fishes=”There is NO NEED=For them to go away=Give them=Some

Food yourselves” Matthew 14:16

And after LOOKING to Heaven=and calling =ON THE FATHER=There was Plenty of fish

And bread=To feed 5,000=Plus women and children=GOD WORKS with what HE HAS=and

It is ALWAYS Enough=Including you and me=WE ARE ENOUGH!

REMEMBER who is=In CONTROL(God)=and Remember He can do ALL THINGS=and accomplish

HIS PURPOSES=Even through people like us=Yes our Holy Father God=and His Son Jesus=

Are more than QUITE CAPABLE=Of WORKING with what they have=The MIRACLE of the

Loaves and fishes PROVE that=”And we KNOW=that in all things=GOD WORKS=for the GOOD=

Of those who love him=Who have been Called=According to HIS PURPOSE” Romans 8:28

“For it is by grace=You have been saved=Through Faith=--------and this is NOT from yourselves=

It is the Gift of GOD=-------NOT BY WORKS=So that no one can boast=For we are God’s handiwork=

Created in Christ Jesus=To do GOOD WORKS=Which God prepared=in advance=For us

To do” Ephesians 2:9

“So Christ himself=Gave the apostles=the prophets=The Evangelists=the pastors and Teachers=

To equip his people=for WORKS OF SERVICE=so that=The Body of Christ=may be built up=Until

We all reach unity=in the Faith=and in the knowledge of=The Son of God=and become mature=

Attaining to the WHOLE measure of=the fullness of Christ” Ephesians 4:11-13

My SISTERS and BROTHERS=God can USE YOU=To ACCOMPLISH=What he wants to accomplish=

In this world=YOU ARE ENOUGH!=Just look at=Some of the People=The HOLY FATHER GOD=Has Used=in this world=To accomplish his PURPOSES=Moses-a stutterer=David an adulterer=Paul=

A persecutor of Christians=When he was Saul=and even Jesus HIMSELF=Who turns out to be=

The SON=of the Holy Father God=Yes MY FRIENDS=God can use us=EVEN US!=We are enough=For God WORKS with what he has=Despite our limitations=Just LOOK at the HISTORY of salvation!=and The MIRACLES of God=The Miracle of=THE LOAVES and the FISHES=God can WORK THROUGH

US TOO!

“Let them=Praise the name=of the Lord=For at his command=They were CREATED” Psalm 148:5

“For in him=All things were CREATED=Things in heaven=and on earth=Visible and invisible=

Whether thrones=Or powers or rulers=Or authorities=All things=Have been CREATED=Through

Him and for him” Colossians 1:16

MY BROTHERS=and sisters=GOD can WORK THROUGH YOU=and Achieve his PURPOSES and

Miracles=For our God=WORKS WITH WHAT HE HAS=and it is ENOUGH=Even US!=You=I=all

OF us are WORKS OF GOD=Just like the Saints and the Prophets=So LISTEN When the Lord God=

And HIS SON=Call your name=LISTEN to what the GREAT Saint Paul said=

“That is WHY=For Christ’s sake=I delight in weaknesses=In insults=in hardships=In persecutions=

In difficulties=For When I am weak=Then I am STRONG”(In Jesus)
