SAINT MARK

 

 

Saint Mark was an evangelist

But not

One of the original apostles

 

He was the young man

Who followed Christ

After his arrest

And later escaped capture

 

“A young man wearing nothing

But a linen garment

Was following Jesus

 

When they seized him

He fled naked

Leaving his garment behind”                                                          Mark 14:51-52

 

Dear Lord-we pray

That as we follow you

Through our lives

When times become tough

That we do not flee from you

As the other apostles

And Mark did

 

Mark was later

The companion

Of both Paul and Peter

 

Paul and Barnabas-Mark’s cousin

Took Mark on Paul’s first missionary journey

But Mark turned back

For Jerusalem

 

Paul became angry

And his quarrel with Barnabas

Led to Barnabas and Mark
Preaching together in Cypress

 

“Some time later

Paul said to Barnabas,

‘Let us go back

And visit the brothers

Where we preached the Word of the Lord

And see how they are doing’

 

Barnabas wanted to take John

Also called John Mark with them

But Paul did not think

It wise to take him

Because he had deserted them

In Pamphylia

And not continued with them

In the work”                                                                    Acts 15:36:38

 

They had a sharp disagreement

And Barnabas and Mark

Preached in Cyprus

 

Paul took Silas

And headed out to strengthen the churches

In Syria and Cilicia

 

Later

Mark was with Paul

When Paul was in prison

 

“My fellow prisoner Aristarchus

Sends you his greetings

As does Mark-the cousin of Barnabas

(“You have received instructions about him

If he comes to you-welcome him”)                                                        Colossians 4:10

 

And Peter referred to Mark,

“As his son”

 

“She who is in Babylon

Chosen together with you

Sends you her greetings

As does my son Mark”

 

We must remember

That Mark was a good deal younger

Than Peter and Paul

And that Peter

Is probably the SOURCE

Of most of Mark’s Gospel

 

It is believed

Mark suffered martyrdom

Possibly in Alexandria

Of which he was the first bishop

 

The symbol of Mark

As an evangelist

Is the lion

And his feast day

Is April 25^th

I found myself in forgiveness

I found myself

Everywhere that there was kindness

 

I found myself

In the heart of a child

I found myself in the smile of a friend

I found myself in the stranger walking by

For God’s sake

We don’t even know

Where they might have been

 

When I didn’t know what to do

When I didn’t have a clue

Yes

I found myself in you

 

I found myself

In the so-called “losers” of this world

I found myself in you

 

You have to remember

There for the grace of God go I

I found myself in you

 

So when I didn’t know what to do

Yes

I found myself in you

In every other human being

In this world

I found myself in you

Ps        If you are LOST on this highway of life-a great reading is Luke 15

            Where Jesus tells the Pharisees 3 parables when they ask him

            Why he welcomes sinners and eats with them

 

            He tells the story of ONE LOST SHEEP

            He tells the story of ONE LOST COIN

            And he tells the story of ONE LOST SON

            And his LOVING FATHER

 

And in Matthew 9:12—Jesus tells the Pharisees when questioned

About eating with sinners:

 

“It is not the healthy who need a Doctor

But the sick”

 

But go and learn what this means

 

“I desire mercy not sacrifice”

 

For I have not come

To call the righteous-but sinners”

 

No matter where you are on this journey we call life

No one is so far gone as to be lost to God

 

Don’t give up on yourself because

GOD WILL NEVER EVER GIVE UP ON YOU

Our mission-our job

Is the same

 

To bring some measure

OF GOD’S LOVE

Of Christ’s life

Alive in some way

In today’s world

 

For ourselves

And if we are

BLESSED with the opportunity

For someone else

 

God BEGAN a work in you

At Baptism

And will carry it on

To completion-if we let him

 

“I THANK my God

Every time I remember you

In all my prayers

For all of you

I always

Pray with joy

Because of your partnership

In the gospel

From the first day

Until now

 

Being confident of this

That he who began

A GOOD WORK in you

Will carry it on to completion

UNTIL THE DAY

Of Christ Jesus”                                                                                Philippians 1:3-6

 

God began

A work in you At Baptism

 

Maybe you

As I did

Got lost along the way

In your teens-or twenties

 

Don’t worry

It is common

It is called growth

It is called maturity

 

Maybe you

Reconfirmed your vowels

From Baptism

As a baby

Or maybe you

Were born again

And recommitted your life to God

 

For each of us

Our journey is different

 

What is common

Is that

We are all

On a journey

And we all

Have a personal relationship with God

(If we choose to)

 

GOD BEGAN

A good and perfect work in you

And GOD WILL

Carry it on to completion

 

“The fear of the Lord

Is the beginning of wisdom

All who follow his precepts

Have good understanding

To him belongs eternal praise”                                                                    Psalm 111:10

 

“The fear of the Lord

Is the beginning of knowledge

But fools despise wisdom and discipline”                                                 Proverbs 1:7

 

God began

A good and perfect work in you

God will

CARRY IT ON TO COMPLETION

And we know

He will carry

That perfect work in us

THROUGH LOVE

 

“There is

NO FEAR IN LOVE

But perfect love

DRIVES out fear

Because fear

Has to do with punishment

 

The one who fears

Is not perfect in love”                                                                       1 John 4:18

 

Just love baby

JUST LOVE

 

God will

We ALL=Want things IN LIFE=Cars=houses=boats= Material objects=Clothes

Of all kinds=But NONE of it LASTS=LOVE LASTS FOREVER!=God’s love=Family love=

THE CLOSE LOVE=that we Build in a FRIEND for a friend=Everything  else is TRANSITORY=

What will LAST?=Only the LOVE OF GOD!=Only the WORD OF GOD!=They live

Forever=”Do not work=For food that spoils=But for food that ENDURES=To eternal life=

Which the SON OF MAN=will give you=For on him=God the Father=Has placed his SEAL

Of approval”                                                                                                                                                      John 6:27

GOD’S LOVE LASTS!

 

And then in Ecclesiastes=We have a WORD about VANITY=”Meaningless=Meaningless=

Says the Teacher=Everything is meaningless”                                                                       Ecclesiastes 1:2

So my friends=BUILD your life=Build your love=On the LOVE OF GOD=Build your life on=

THE WORD OF GOD!=On family=on close friends=Love God and Jesus=ABOVE all else=and

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR=as yourself=Give your LIFE SOME MEANING!=Some Importance=

Build your LIFE=On his WORD!

“For his anger=LASTS only a moment=But hi favor=LASTS a lifetime=Weeping may stay=for

The night=But REJOICING=Comes in the morning”                                                                 Psalm 30:5

“And if=What was transitory=Came with glory=How much greater=Is the glory that

Which LASTS”                                                                                                                                      2 Corinthians 3:11

 

WHEN we BUILD  our lives=On what the world offers us=Like materialism=Like sexuality=

Like scientific miracles=Or drugs=alcohol=Etc., etc., etc.,= We will have a MEANINGLESS LIFE=

We NEED=to build our life=ON  GOD’S LOVE=On Jesus’ love=On the WORD OF GOD=On Family=

Only those things=NEVER PASS AWAY=Only in these things=CAN we FIND a life=That goes on=

FOREVER AND EVER=and has IMPORTANCE!

“He remember his=COVENANT FOREVER=The PROMISE he made=For a Thousand

Generations”                                                                                                                                            1 Chronicles 16:15

“Give thanks  to the Lord=For he is good=HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER”                1 Chronicles 16:34

“Heaven and earth=Will pass away=BUT MY WORDS=will never pass away”          Matthew 24:35

 

WHO do you know=That has conquered death?=ONLY Jesus Christ=and His Holy Father GOD!

WHAT do you know=That LASTS FOREVER?=ONLY the GOD OF LOVE=Maybe the love OF FAMILY=

In our hearts=and the LOVE OF CLOSE FRIENDS=Based on=THE WORD OF GOD AND LIFE!

 

And so  my sisters and  My brothers=HOW will you LIVE your life today?=WILL you BUILD=

On materialism?=On sexuality?=On scientific miracles?=Or maybe drugs=or alcohol=or

Pornography?=IF you are=You are building=A MEANINGLESS=A  TRANSITORY=a  life that is=

GOING NOWHERE!=ONLY GOD’S WORD=ONLY GOD’S LOVE=LASTS FOREVER!=and makes for=

AN IMPORTANT LIFE!

“Whoever eats this bread=WILL LIVE FOREVER=This bread is my flesh=Which I will give for=

THE LIFE=of the world”                                                                                                                       John 6:51

“EVERYONE who competes in the games=Goes into strict training=They do it=To get a  crown=

That will NOT LAST=But we do it=To get a crown=That WILL LAST FOREVER”   1 Corinthians 9:25

“……..But they WORD=of the LORD ENDURES FOREVER”                                             1 Peter 9:25

 

Dear brothers and sisters=What will you do  today?=How will you Live?=and will you DO IT=

BASED on God’s LOVE AND WORD?=Will you LOVE?

In Jesus name=and in the name=Of our FOREVER LOVING and Living  Holy Father God!

A STEP AWAY

 

 

 

We’re just a step away from another chance

Another step away

We just need one lucky break

And we’ll be on our way

 

We’ve been patiently awaiting another chance

But we never really thought that it would come

It’s surprising what patience can do

And what it adds up to in the final sum

 

We’ve been knocked down again and again

Never thought that we could get back up

Thought it was the end

But somehow we stuck it out

And we are on the mend

 

We’re just a step away from another chance

Another step away

We just need one lucky break

And we’ll be on our way

 

We’ve been dreaming of the challenge

And dreaming of the fight

Just waiting for another chance

And keeping our goals and dreams in sight

We want to come all the way back

In every walk of life

And keep going on and on

Like we were never gone

 

And……..-

We’re just a step away

Another step away

We just need one lucky break

And we’ll be on our way

Jesus has now

Resurrected from the dead=

We have=THE BLESSINGS

Of God=and Christ Jesus

Upon us

 

Now comes the HARD PART

For us to LIVE

The teachings of our Jesus

All year long

 

Be an example=

RESOLVE TO BE=A WITNESS!

For Christ!

Spread the joy

 

“God raised this Jesus

Of this=

We are ALL WITNESS”                                                                                                            Acts 2:32

 

Jesus is risen=hallelujah

He is RISEN=for sure

 

What JOY we will have

CELEBRATING this Easter Miracle

With our family

And our Christian friends

 

What joy

We will have=in our HEARTS

If we=RESOLVE

TO BE A WITNESS!=for Jesus

 

And LIVE the teachings

Of him=all day long

 

“But Daniel=RESOLVED not to

Defile himself=with the royal food

And wine

 

And he asked

The chief official=for permission

Not to defile himself=this way”                                                                                      Daniel 1:8

 

“For I RESOLVED

To know nothing=

While I was with you

Except Jesus Christ=and him crucified”                                                                          1 Corinthians 2:2

 

Let us NOT let this

Be just another day

 

When we do the basic

Laundry=and cooking

And wash the car

 

Let us use

TODAY’S OPPORTUNITIES

To RESOLVE to

SPREAD the good news

Of the Lord!

 

RESOLVE TO BE

A WITNESS!=to

The resurrection of Christ today!

 

This is JOYFUL

And exciting news

 

“ONE WITNESS

Is not enough

To convict anyone

 

Accused of any crime=or offense

They may have committed”                                                                                               Deuteronomy 19:15

 

“But you will

Receive power=

When the Holy Spirit

Comes to you

 

In Jerusalem=and in all Judea

And Samaria

And to the ends

Of the earth”                                                                                                                  Acts 1:8

 

SHOW your Easter joy!

RESOLVE TO BE

A WITNESS!=for Jesus

DON’T FORGET TO LAUGH

 

Last week was a tough week for me/for many of us

 

So it got me to thinking

Does GOD have a sense of humor

 

The answer that I came up with is

He made ME ( us )=didn’t he

 

 

LOL=with grateful appreciation FOR YOU

 

 

Ecclesiastes 3   =   A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

 

 

There is a time for everything

And a season for everything

Under Heaven:

 

A time to weep and a time to laugh

 

 

 

A friend of my Father’s

Used to tell him

 

“When they made you Bob

They broke the mold

And beat the hell

Out of the mold maker”

 

 

Always remember

You are a Child of God

Born with a purpose

Living for a purpose

And that you have a job in this world

That no one else in this world can do

Only you

 

And when GOD made you

He saved the mold for ALL of eternity

 

We are all on a journey

But don’t forget

To have fun---AND LAUGH ALONG THE WAY
