FAITH and WORKS---the story of Saint James

 

James was the ½ brother of Jesus

And along with his brother,  John

Was called, “the sons of thunder”

 

He was

One of the three witnesses of Christ

At the transfiguration

And was present

At Jesus’ agony

In the garden

 

He never believed

That Christ was the Messiah

Until after the Resurrection

 

At Pentecost

James received the gift of the Holy Spirit

Along with the other Apostles

And set out to help

Build God’s kingdom

 

James in his writing

Points out that faith alone

Is insufficient

 

We must have faith

That manifests itself

In action or good deeds

For others

 

“What good is it my brothers

If a man claims to have faith

But has no deeds

Can such faith save him

 

Suppose a brother or sister

Is without clothes or daily food

If one of you goes and says to him

“Go I wish you well

Keep warm and well fed”

But does nothing about the physical needs

What good is it

 

In the same way

Faith by itself

If it is not accompanied by action

Is dead”                                                                   James 2:14-17

 

James also teaches us about

Patience and pure religion

He tells us that patience

Is a Godly virtue

And that a believer needs to possess it

In order to become

Perfect and complete in Christ

 

And James teaches us

That being a Christian

Is living righteously before God

And as an example

To others in the world

Particularly orphans and widows

 

And so Lord

We pray today

That we come to understand the teaching of Saint James

 

That we are saved by FAITH alone

But that real faith NEVER stands alone

That faith without good deeds

Is NOT real faith

 

James is believed

To be the first Apostle to die for the cause

 

Dear Lord

We pray that like Saint James

That the spirit of Christ

Lives in us

 Through the FAITH and ACTIONS in our lives

REJECTION

 

 

I have experienced the words:

“You will never live again”

 

I have heard the words

From an attractive young woman

”I love you as a friend”

Not that big of a deal now

But at the time

I thought it was the end

 

God is in my heart

 

There have been times

With not a penny in my pocket

I didn’t know

Where my next meal was coming from

 

God is in my soul

 

Have you ever been so sick

And flat on your back

Not able to get up

And heard the words

“Get up-there isn’t anything wrong with you”

I have

And it isn’t any fun

 

“For I am convinced that

Neither death nor life”

God is my life

Christ is my life

 

“Neither the present

Nor the future

Nor any powers”

I love God with my whole heart

I love God with my whole soul

 

“Neither height nor depth

Nor anything else in all creation”

I love God with my whole mind

I love God with all my might

 

“Will be able to separate us

From the love of God

That is in Christ Jesus our Lord”

( Romans 8:38-39 )

 

“LOVE NEVER FAILS”

1 Corinthians 13:8

 

“And we know that in all things

God works for the good of those who love him

And have been called according to his purpose”

( Romans 8:28 )

LIVE WITH LOVE=HUMILITY and WISDOM=A DEEPER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

 

 

 

 

 

 

LIVE WITH LOVE=HUMILITY=and WISDOM=and

(Form a DEEPER RELATIONSHIP=With the HOLY FATHER GOD)!

 

The SAINTS were people=Who were HUMBLE=They Searched themselves=And They were

Dependent=and had a BOLD TRUST IN=The Holy Father God=I INVITE you all(and myself)=

To do the SAME=LIVE with Love=Live with Humility=and live with Wisdom=Like the Saints=

Especially =our Saint today=Saint Sharbel Makhluf=”Then I will give you Shepherds=

After my own heart=Who will lead you=With KNOWLEDGE

AND UNDERSTANDING”                                                                                                                       Jeremiah 3:15

 

I INVITE you all(Me to)=Like the Saints and Saint Sharbel in PARTICULAR=To live

LOVING and humble lives=with Wisdom=By DEPENDING on=the Holy Father God=We

Can Form an EVER DEEPER RELATIONSHIP=and draw CLOSER to the Holy Father God=and

Jesus=Through Scripture=through FAITH=and through PRAYER and sacrifice=LIVE with

Love=Humility and Wisdom=Just like Jesus and OUR HOLY FATHER GOD!

 

IF you do=If I do=We can DRAW MORE PEOPLE=To our God=OUR SHEPHERD=Whose

Example=we should ALL be following=FOLLOW THE LORD!=”The Lord=is my SHEPHERD=I

Lack nothing”                                                                                                                                                 Psalm 23:1

“He tends his flock=LIKE A SHEPHERD=He gathers the lambs=In his arms=and carries them=

Close to his heart==He gently leads those=Who have young”                                           Isaiah 40:11

“Hear the WORD=Of the Lord  you nations=Proclaim it in distant coastlands=’He who

Scattered Israel=will gather them=And will watch over=His flock=

LIKE A SHEPHERD’”                                                                                                                                      Jeremiah 31:10

 

You my friends=are to BE A MIRROR REFLECTION=Of the HEART of God=and you and I=

ALL of us=will be=IF we live with LOVE=HUMILITY=AND WISDOM=If we do this=We Will bring

OUR SOULS=Into a DEEPER RELATIONS SHIP=with the Holy Father God and HIS SON!=For we

Are to be THE EXAMPLE=of the SHEPHERD’S OWN HEART!=and then we will FIND that

DEEPER RELATIONSHIP with God!

 

And what a GRACE=it will be=To FIND our Holy Father God=and His Son=In the HUMAN ENCOUNTERS=We have=With OTHERS=In this 21^st century world=That we live in=LIVING like

The SAINTS=Living with LOVE=HUMILITY and WISDOM=and finding our SHEPHERD=as we become

The 21^st century APOSTLES=we were MEANT to be

“When he saw the crowds=He had compassion on them=Because they were harassed and

HELPLESS=Like a sheep=Without a SHEPHERD”                                                                           Matthew 9:36

“I am=THE GOOD SHEPHERD=The GOOD SHEPHERD lays down=His life=

For his sheep”                                                                                                                                                      John 10:11

“And When =THE CHIEF SHEPHERD APPEARS=You will receive the crown of glory=

That will Never fade away”                                                                                                                         1 Peter 5:4

 

Dear LOVING God=I pray=We pray=for you to HELP US=to Find God’s LOVE=God’s Humility=

And God’s Wisdom=In this world=and to help us=To live and LOVE RIGHTEOUSLY=For you dear Jesus=and You  HOLY FATHER=Set the EXAMPLE=For all of us=With your WISDOM

            People were bringing little children to Jesus

            To have him touch them

            But the disciples rebuked them

 

            When Jesus saw this-he was indignant

            He said to them

 

            “Let the little children come to me

             And do not hinder them

             For the kingdom of God

             Belongs to such as these

 

             I tell you the truth

             Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God

             Like a little child will never enter into it

       

             And he took the children in his arms

             Put his hands on them and blessed them”                                    Mark 10:13-16

 

HOPE IS=THE HEART OF GOD

 

 

 

 

 

 

HOPE IS=THE HEART OF GOD!

 

Our Holy Father God=and his Son

Jesus Christ=have a SPECIALTY and

They specialize IN HOPE

 

That is WHY Jesus came=to

A HURTING WORLD=over 2,000 years ago

I BELIEVE=our Holy Father God=will send

Jesus again=IF not himself=in these troubled times

That we live in

HOPE IS=THE HEART OF GOD!

 

“Even though=I walk

IN the dark valley=I fear no evil

FOR YOU=are at my side”                                                                                                                Psalm 23:4

 

The readings today=are

FULL of comfort=full of HOPE=and emphasizes

GOD’S LOVING CARE=for all of us

 

The above SCRIPTURE=is often read

At funerals=and it is because=it emphasizes

THAT OUR LOVED ONE=is still ALIVE

With the Holy Father God=and Jesus=on

The other side=Our God

SPECIALIZING in giving HOPE

To all of us

 

“Though they slay me=YET WILL I HOPE

In him=I will surely=defend my ways=to his face”                                                           Job 13:15

 

“Why my soul=are you downcast?=why

So disturbed within me?

 

Put YOUR HOPE=in God

For I will yet praise him=my Savior

And my God”                                                                                                                    Psalm 42:5

 

“But those=WHO HOPE=in the Lord

Will renew their strength

 

They will soar on wings=like eagles

They will run=and not grow weary

They will walk=and not be faint”                                                                                  Isain 40:31

 

As BAD as things are=in this world

I believe=that there STILL IS HOPE

 

For we worship=a LOVING GOD

We worship a HOPEFUL GOD=EVERYTIME

It looks like=we have reached the end

Our Holy Father God=and Jesus

GAVE us a way out

 

He will do it again=for I believe

That our HOPE=rests in God=and

HOPE IS=THE HEART OF GOD!

 

“Not only so=but we also

Glory in our sufferings=because we know

 

That suffering produces=perseverance=and

Perseverance=character=and character=HOPE

And HOPE

 

Does not=put us to shame=because God’s love

Has been poured out=into our hearts

Through the Holy Spirit=who has been

Given to us”                                                                                                                           Romans 5:3-5

 

“WE HAVE THIS HOPE=as an

Anchor=for the soul=firm and secure

It enters the inner sanctuary=behind the curtain”                                                                    Hebrews 6:19

 

Even before Jesus=WE NEEDED GOD

And God=PROVIDED=for his people

 

Our God and our Jesus=are MOVED with pity

For us=and all of our sufferings=God and Jesus

Came into the world

 

To heal=to feed=and to WIPE AWAY

Our tears=destroy death

Jesus was=PERFECT in his love

And his living=he destroyed death

KEEP THE FAITH!=KEEP THE HOPE!

Our God=is coming again=Our

God is HOPE=and HOPE IS

THE HEART OF GOD!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=of our forever living=forever loving

FOREVER HOPEFUL=Holy Father God!

SHELTER FROM THE STORM

ONE of the things

I know for sure IS-

In life

Is that

We all go through

The storms

There are NO EXCEPTIONS

I can tell you that

FOR SURE

And one of the things

WE can do for others

As they go through the storms

Of life

Is to OPEN our hearts

Open our lives

And open our HOMES for others

Just as God always does

Just as Jesus always does FOR US

“If you

Consider me a BELIEVER

In the Lord

Come and STAY

At my home........”                                                              Acts 16:15

AS BELIEVERS-one of the things

My family has always done

Is open up their homes

To FAMILY-friends-and neighbors

My grandparents did this

My parents did this

And I have ALWAYS done this

( as well as my sisters)

To quote from a Bob Dylan song:

“Come in-she said-

And I will give you-

SHELTER from the storm”

I take REFUGE in God

I take refuge in the Lord

“But let all those

Who take refuge

In you-BE GLAD

Let them ever

SING for joy

SPREAD your protection

Over them

That those who love your name

MAY REJOICE in you”                                                       Psalm 5:11

“Come in-he said-GOD SAID-

I will give you

'SHELTER FROM THE STORM'”

There are few WORKS of MERCY

In life-as challenging

As OPENING your home

To someone in NEED

RECENTLY- I was on

A five-week journey

Up through the NORTH

I THANK my family and friends

For opening up their lives

And their homes to me

OPENING up our homes

To someone in need is necessary

NECESSARY for us

To actually PROVE

We are CREATURES OF GOD

And necessary for those who stay

For whatever reason-

They are IN NEED

“COME IN-GOD SAID-

And receive
