FAMILY DAY

We have a father’s day

A mother’s day

A grandparents day

And God knows

What other kinds of day

WHY NOT-A FAMILY DAY

What about a day

Where all people

Can put away their grudges

With their families, their exes, etc.

AWAY-for just one day

I know

We already have Christmas

And I know

I am a bit ideological in my thinking

But what about it?

Would you consider it?

What about a FAMILY DAY for everyone

The following

Is a poem that I wrote about families

I happen to be Catholic/Christian

But my idea

Is for ALL people

Of ALL faiths

A MAN CALLED LUKE

He is

The only Gentile writer

Among the 72 books of the Bible

He was

A Greek physician by trade

A disciple of Saint Paul

And his books include

The Gospel of Saint Luke

And the Acts of the Apostles

The Gospel of Saint Luke was once called

“The loveliest book in the world”

Or/and “The most beautiful book ever written”

Luke’s Gospel is considered the Gospel of women

Because of Jesus’ passion to the women of Jerusalem

Because of its emphasis

On Mary---the birth of Jesus---

Her visit to her cousin Elizabeth

Mary’s prayer of glorification to the Lord

And her acceptance of God’s mission

From the angel without hesitation

“I am the Lord’s servant,”

Said Mary to the angel

“Let it be done to me according to your word”

Luke knew

That then, as now,

We don’t understand this notion

Of God’s unconditional love

For us

We just don’t understand

The heart of God

So Luke

Gives us an historical account of Jesus’ life

He teaches us

About Jesus’ humanity

He teaches us about Jesus’ public ministry

Through his perfect compassion and forgiveness

Through stories like

The Good Samaritan, The Lost ( “Prodigal ) Son

And the rich man and Lazarus

Jesus understands our weakness

So says Luke

Jesus understands our temptations and our trials

So says Luke

He came to save both Jew and Gentile

So says our Saint Luke

He came for both the outcasts and the accepted

He came

To save both the poor and the rich

He came for

Both men and women

He came for

The free and the oppressed

He came for

Each and every one of us

So says

A man called Luke

You cannot stop LIFE

And LOVE in this world=

The life of Christ

PROVES THAT

MANY tried to STOP him=

But life and LOVE

Lived on

“Woe to you

Experts in the law

Because you

Have taken away

The key to knowledge

You yourselves have

NOT ENTERED=

And you have hindered

Those who were entering” Luke 11:52

What a terrible condemnation

That that is=

Trying to STOP anyone

From entering

LIFE AND LOVE

YOU CAN'T STOP LOVE!

CHRIST'S LOVE proved this=

And so did the lives

OF OUR SAINTS

Particularly the life

Of our SAINT TODAY=

Saint Ignatius of Antioch

AUTHORITIES seized Ignatius=

Who was HEAD of one of

The churches

Being BORN

In the early SECOND century

They conveyed Ignatius=

CHAINED HIM=on the long journey

From Turkey to Rome

For public execution

They didn't want him to be

LIKE CHRIST=and wanted to

STOP OTHERS

From being like CHRIST

But you CAN'T STOP love

And life in CHRIST=

It moves on

Life and LOVE live on

“For this

Is what the high

And exalted ONE says--------

He who LIVES FOREVER-

Whose name is holy” Isaiah 57:15

“........the Spirit of TRUTH--------

The world cannot

Accept him

Because it neither sees him

Nor knows him

But you know him

For he LIVES with you

Of COURAGE AND FAITH=

We can too

Have a life that LIVES ON

To the day of GOD

Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Home:

Its Purposes and its Rewards

The purpose of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to make us aware of

His love and to arouse us to respond to that love by offering our love in return.

We do this by the consecration of ourselves to Jesus and by reparation ( prayer

And sacrifices in atonement for our sins and the sins of others ). The enthronement

Is a crusade to establish the SOCIAL REIGN of the SACRED HEART in society

Though the family, the social cell. It is the answer to the question:

“What can we do to save the family?”

The enthronement will restore the family to Christ because the family is putting

Our Lord and his interests first. In return the Sacred Heart takes over the interests

Of the family. Our Lord himself has promised that he will bless and sanctify those

Families who enthrone him as King. He asked Margaret Mary, to whom he revealed

His Sacred Heart, that he be allowed to reign over the homes of the rich and poor;

That He be solemnly received as King and Friend and that HIS SACRED HEART

Be honored and loved.

I read and pray this prayer every day-FOR ALL FAMILIES

IN this world

Point out our FLAWS

While they ignore

Their own

I hope I don't

Do this= I TRY to

Be a positive influence

And BUILD other people up

She was born

In the 17^th century

The 5^th child of a notary

And she had an unhappy childhood

She became a VISITATION nun

At the age of 25

She was patient and charitable

But also clumsy and impractical

She had a series of visions of Christ

And along with some others

---Namely Saint Gertrude

Were responsible for reviving devotion

To the SACRED HEART OF JESUS

And reminding us

Of Jesus’ love for ALL men

Dear Lord

We pray that you use us

As you used Saint Margaret Mary

To revive interest in both God and family

In this indifferent Godless world

That we live in today

We pray to you Dear Lord

And the great Saint---Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

To help us revive this interest

Of GOD and FAMILY in today’s world

And we pray

That the SACRED HEART OF JESUS

And the IMMACULATE HEART of MARY

On the way home on the Tri-rail

I saw the most beautiful sight

The love between a mother and her child

They looked at each other with love

They communicated with their hearts

Just communicated with their smiles

Just to see them interact

For the moment

Made life seem worthwhile

This particular couple

Was a Hispanic mother and daughter

Bit it applies

To any other mother and child

They ate and shared an apple

They

Were so comfortable with each other

The love between a mother

And her child

Is priceless

For a moment

It makes everything you put up with

Seem worthwhile

That’s what love does

“THE GREATEST GENERATION?”=The TRUTH is=THE GREATEST GENERATION=Cannot exist=

Without Jesus being in it=But we can still GO to Mass/and OUR CHRISTIAN SERVICES daily=and

We can still PRAY CONTIBUOUSLY=To Father God the way Jesus did=and we can LIVE JOYFUL

LIVES=By Living=ACTUALLY LIVING=The WORD of God=and GIVING to the People in NEED!=

When we can=LIVING A LIFE=to INSPIRE and to ENCOURAGE OTHERS!=Like our Jesus=The

SON of=The Holy Father God=DO SOMETHING=to Encourage someone else=ANOTHER Human

Being!=By loving them

“You Lord=Hear the desire=of the AFFLICTED=YOU ENCOURAGE THEM=and you Listen to

We are BETTER than that!=We have the POSSIBILITY=of HELPING OTHERS=with the WORDS of

Jesus and the FATHER=We need to BECOME ALIVE=Like Jesus was here=ALL OVER AGAIN!=
Live to INSPIRE and encourage others=Just like Jesus did!=BE A LIGHT!=Shine!=Radiate GOD’S
LOVE to others with ENCOURAGEMENT!

SAINT THERESA=of Avila=LET NOTHING DISTURB YOU

LET NOTHING DISTURB YOU---

( the story of SAINT THERESA of AVILA)

So easily

We become disturbed

In today’s world

About our health

About our finances

About our relationships

And about a myriad of other things

Even as a child

Theresa of Avila

Was thought to be particularly pious

Playing with her brother---at hermitages

And once---the two of them even ran away

Hoping to die as martyrs in Monaco

Theresa’s mother died when she was 14

And her reaction was predictable

As she developed a desire for worldly treasures

Such as romance, fashion, and perfume

Her father sent her away

To be educated by Augustinian nuns

And while there---she became ill

While ill

She began so study the word of God

And became so enthralled

By the letters of Saint Jerome

She decided to become a nun

She became a Carmelite nun

But a year later---became ill again

Possibly a malignant malaria

LET NOTHING DISTURB YOU

Theresa began to practice mental prayer

But later abandoned it

But after her father’s death

Picked it up again

NEVER to give it up again

Theresa’s exuberance, prudence, and charity

Touched ALL---but later

When she began to experience visions

And other SPIRITUAL encounters

She began

To become misunderstood, ridiculed, and even persecuted

She identified herself with two great Saints

---Two great sinners-penitents

Who were TRANSFORMED BY GOD---

Saint Augustine and MARY MAGDALENE

She lived in a little nunnery

With 12 other nuns

Under conditions of poverty-hardship-and solitude

Theresa herself---took her turns at sweeping-spinning

And many other menial household tasks

Her prayers to God

Lasted a lifetime

And LIVE ON today in her writings---

THE WAY TO PERFECTION and THE INTERIOR CASTLE

Dear God

We pray that as we experience hardship in this life

And we will

That we adopt that same attitude

Of Saint Theresa

That we keep our eyes FIXED on you

And that we truly live by what Saint Theresa truly did

And in fact said:

“LET NOTHING DISTURB YOU”

THE HEALNG POWER OF GOD

How do we

KEEP getting up

How do we

RISE AGAIN

WHEN the forces

Of this world

Seem to conspire against us

To keep knocking us down

Over and over again

“WHICH is easier to say

'Your sins are forgiven,'

Or to say,

'Rise to and walk'” Matthew 9:5

Have you ever had

An addiction

Or have you

Ever been

Paralyzed by a sin

That just weighed you down

That it seemed HOPELESS

That you were powerless

To overcome

If you

Are or were ever

BLESSED to overcome it

Like I was

Through the POWER OF GOD

You KNOW the power

To RISE UP/walk on

And continue with your life

“........Those who

Have done what is good

WILL RISE to live

And those who have down

What is evil

Will rise to be condemned” John 5:29

RISE UP

You can LIVE-but only by

THE POWER OF GOD

NOT by

Or on your own power

THE HEALING POWER OF GOD

In the NEW TESTAMENT

Jesus was engaged with the Pharisees

Over and over again

He asks them

CHALLENGING question after challenging question

As he often asks us too

And they stumble with the answers

Because of their own self-righteousness

What they

FAIL to understand

What we often

Fail to understand too

IS that the ability

To forgive sins

And the ability to HEAL

BOTH have the same origin

THE DIVINE POWER OF GOD

“For since

The creation of the world

God's INVISIBLE qualities-

His external power and DIVINE NATURE

Have been clearly seen

Being understood

From what has been made

So that people are without excuse” Romans 1:20

RISE AGAIN

You can overcome

ANYTHING IN LIFE

Through the-DIVINE POWER-

And the HEALING POWER-of God

We just have

To call on GOD AND JESUS-

and we will-RISE AGAIN

A TESTIMONY TO UNCLE JOHN

STRONG-WILLED=YES-That was my Uncle John

LOYAL=YES-That was my Uncle John

A man of honesty-sincerity-and integrity

YES-That was my Uncle John

BUT FAMILY=That is the essence of who my Uncle John was.

Matthew 6:21 says=”Your heart will always be where your treasure is.”

And my Uncle John’s heart was always on his family.

His marriage and home were like right out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Yet--------very very real.

His marriage to Karen was perhaps the strongest marriage I have ever seen in my life.

His children (Kathy, Johnny, and Kimberly), embody his life, his spirit, and the very

Essence of who he was:

LOVE-honesty-sincerity-and integrity.

And now three grandchildren (Zachary, Jacob, Leah), and a fourth on the way. I know

That he valued the time he spent with his grandchildren.

And grandmother, Yvonne, a beautiful person who he valued as a member of his family.

But I want to talk about who and what he meant to me.

He wasn’t just my uncle. He was my friend. He was also like a brother to me, and

He gave me fatherly advice on many occasions.

Outside of my own mother and father, he was the single most influential person

Of my life.

I remember playing pitch and putt golf with him when I was10or 12 years old. I

Remember him, Karen, and I having our own bowling league-even having our

Own banquet and trophies.

I remember all the family picnics, all the family dinners (Thanksgiving and Christmas),

Dinners, and all the times we drove up from Pittsburgh to stay overnight.

All the love, hospitality, kindness, and compassion he showed to the three of us.

In fact, to the whole extended family, his friends, and sometimes even to strangers.

John and my mother shared a deep deep love. I think I can speak for the entire family

In saying, we loved him very very much.

I think of the interaction between my dad and him. If there hadn’t already had been

An Oscar and Felix, they might have been the original odd couple.

When we would stay overnight, John would come down, in the morning, about 11

Or 11:30am-for his coffee and his newspaper, and to sit in his chair. No sooner would

He get in his chair-and my dad (who had already been up four or five hours), would start

Reading word-for-word, article-by-article, to him out of the newspaper.

John wouldn’t say anything. He would just kind of furrow his right eyebrow, but you

Could tell he was perplexed. Almost as perplexed as when the entire Murphy Family

Showed up on a Saturday afternoon, when my dad was outside raking the leaves, and

Said, “Nobody is home.”

My father, mother, and me have had some tough times. I remember all the kind acts

He and Karen did for us without us having to ask.

I want to speak a moment about the trials he experienced the last year-and-a-half.

I don’t know why bad things happen to good people, or any person, for that matter.

But I do know this. They say trials do not make character, but actually reveals

Character. John’s character has been revealed.

And his character’ name is family.

His character’s name is love.

To quote from a poem that I once wrote:

A Family is life

A family is love

A family is God’s light

Shining on us

From above

John’s light will forever shine.

ONE SURE OUTCOME!=

Occasionally=You hear stories=Of RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS=such as RANDOM DONATIONS=

To a POOR BOX=Or great sums=Or EVEN a diamond ring=To the SALVATION ARMY=There still are=
KIND people in THIS world=So hold on To Your FAITH!=KINDNESS lives in this world=and it is often

FOUND in people=LIVING THE GOSPEL=ONE SURE THING still exists=and it is=OUR GOD’S and

Jesus’ LOVE=”For through the Spirit=BY FAITH=We await the

HOPE of righteousness” Galatians 5:5

They USED to say=There are only 2 SURE THINGS in life=Death and taxes=But I am here to

Tell you=There is ONLY ONE SURE THING=and it is=THE LOVE of God the Father=and God the SON=

ONE SURE THING!

NONE of us know=What will BEFALL US=in this life=OR WHEN=at any AGE of our life=But if we are=

God BELIEVERS=Jesus Believers==We REMAIN HOPEFUL=in the Faith=Hope and Love of our God=

By LIVING THE GOSPEL=by living THE WORDS of God!

“God is exalted=IN HIS POWER=Who is a Teacher like him?” Job 36:22

“Proclaim the=POWER OF GOD=Whose majesty is Over Israel=Whose POWER is in

The heavens” Psalm 68:34

“So he said to me’=’This is the Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel=’Not by might=NOR BY POWER=

But by my Spirit’=Says the Lord Almighty” Zechariah 4:6

There is=ONLY ONE SURE THING=in this Life and that is=Finding the Holy Father God=and Finding

Jesus=By LIVING THE GOSPEL=Of our Lord=Living the gospel OF LOVE!

We live by=and we GIVE IN FAITH=In the Holy Father God and His Son=by their FULL POWER=In this

Life=We are DEPENDENT on God=But we can STILL HELP OURSELVES=along the path=IF we remain

Open=To the countless ways=God and Jesus help us=as we Continue to live in THE HOPE=That Living the GOSPEL Provides=BELIEVE and live in=THE ONE SURE THING!

“I am=The God of Abraham=the God of Isaac=and the God of Jacob=He is NOT the God of the Dead=But of THE LIVING” Matthew 22:32

“Whoever believes in me=as Scripture has said=Rivers of LIVING WATER=will flow from

Within then” John 7:38

“Therefore I urge you=Brothers and sisters=In view of God’s mercy=To offer your bodies as=

A LIVING SACRIFICE=Holy and Pleasing to God=--------this is Your TRUE and

Proper worship” Romans 12:1

The ONE SURE THING!=is our Life=when we have OUR HOPE In=The Holy Father God and Jesus=

And in LIVING THE GOSPEL OF LOVE!=ONE SURE THING!

Dear Holy Father God=and Son Jesus=and YOUR Holy Spirit of LIFE=We ask you=To HELP US=

Find a CLOSER WALK with you all=Through our life=and The ONE Sure Thing of LIVING

You=Which you received=and ON=which You make YOUR STAND=By this GOSPEL=You are
