We live

In a world

That tells us

There is no sin

That sin doesn’t matter

 

We live

In a world

Full of selfishness

Full of intolerance

And full of

Ingratitude, indifference

And the rejection of other human beings

 

But we also live

In a world

That can be very kind

Particularly

At the birth of a child

And the death of a loved on

 

I know because

I have been touched

By God

And by family and friends

And church

In these last

Number of weeks

 

So what changes us

From people

Of sin, selfishness, and rejection

To people of

Kindness and goodness

Beyond our own human understanding

 

I suggest

It is

The touch of God

In us and for us

The touch of God

For each other

To help one another

 

I suggest

It is simply

The touch of God

In each and every one of our lives

Do you KNOW=that we SERVE a WISE GOD?=That God’s foolishness=is GREATER

Than man’s WISDOM!=That whatever is GOING ON=In this world=Our Holy Father

God and HIS DIVINE SON Alone=have the ANSWERS=”……..Let us together=EXTOL

“But everyone=Who hears these words of mine=and does NOT=Put them into practice=

Is like a FOOLISH man=Who built his house on sand”                                                           Matthew 7:26

“For the FOOLISHNESS of God=Is Wiser than=human WISDOM=and the weakness of God=

There is so much DISCORD=so much CONTROVERSY=among human beings=We just

Don’t seem able=to get it RIGHT=No matter how hard that we try=I SUGGEST we pray about this=

About everything=and GIVE IT TO GOD!=and WAIT for his ANSWERS!

 

ONE such area=That we HUMANS seem to disagree so much=IS IN the area of politics=WE all

Have our  own opinions=and I am NO DIFFERENT=I suggest that BEFORE WE=start BREAKING

AWAY from family members and friends=WE PRAY=then even PRAY a little more and=GIVE IT

TO GOD!=God has ALL the answers=He is=He KNOWS=right from wrong=WE SERVE=A WISER GOD=Than us

“What other nation=is so great=As to have their gods near them=The Way of the Lord is =Near us=

Whenever we PRAY to Him?”                                                                                                               Deuteronomy 4:7

“My servant Job=WILL PRAY FOR YOU=and I will ACCEPT his prayer=and not deal with you=

According to your folly=You have NOT spoken the truth about me=as MY SERVANT Job has” Job 42:8

The most PRIME EXAMPLE=of how we HUMANS have gotten it wrong=Is when we PUT our God=

Our Jesus to death=2,000 years ago=It took the RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ=The Son of

THE HOLY FATHER GOD=and the COUNTLESS deaths=of apostles=of disciples=and Saints=

To begin to TURN THE TIDE=In this world

 

And even with that=It took 400 years  Later=UNTIL the COUNCIL of Nicaea=For us humans

TO PROCLAIM Jesus=as the LIVING GOD=the ONE TRUE God of love==So whatever is=

TROUBLING YOU=Whatever is giving you an=UNSETTLED HEART=PRAY ABOUT IT!=and Give it

To GOD=WE SERVE A WISE GOD!=A just God=A LOVING GOD=a God with ALL of the right

Answers=THE WISDOM OF GOD!=versus the Foolishness of man=ONLY THE Holy Father God and=

HIS SON=Get it right 100% of the TIME=PRAY ABOUT IT!=and GIVE IT=to the LORD!

 

“In the same way=The SPIRIT helps us=In our weakness=We do NOT KNOW=what we ought to pray

For=But the SPIRIT himself=Intercedes for us=Through wordless groans”                          Romans 8:26

“Therefore confess your sins=To each other=and PRAY FOR each other=so that you MAY

Be  healed=THE PRAYER of a RIGHTEOUS person=is powerful and effective”               James 5:16

HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY MISS GOD?

 

HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY MISS GOD?

The SUN comes up

Every morning=we get sunshine=

Sometimes rain

We get everything that we NEED

To SUSTAIN our lives=

HOW can we POSSIBLY MISS

Seeing God in our world?

How can we miss SEEING GOD

In our lives?

We eat=we breathe=we sleep=

We have jobs=we have money=

We have a ROOF over our heads

Keep your eyes WIDE OPEN=

God is ALIVE=how can we

Ever miss him?

“He entered a house-

And wanted NO ONE

To know about it-

But he

Could not escape notice”                                                                                          Mark 7:24

We scan our lives

LOOKING for God

Just a glimpse of him=here=

Or a glimpse of him there=

But GOD IS EVERYWHERE

God is everything in our lives=

IF he ceased to love us=

For just one second

We would cease to breathe

God no longer hides from us

He lives WITHIN US and all

AROUND US=he is everywhere

“Does he who

FASHIONED the ear

Not hear

Does he

Who formed the eye

NOT SEE?”                                                                                                   Psalm 94:9

“The eye

Is the lamp

Of the body

IF your eyes are healthy

Your whole body

I OWED GOD ONE!

I OWED GOD ONE

 

 

 

 

 

Many years ago, in a hospitalization that began on my 22^nd birthday, I had gangrene,

Peritonitis, blood poisoning, and a host o other things.  I had emergency surgery and

Was given 0 per cent chance to live.  I had the last rights, went unconscious and two weeks later woke up alive.

 

What I didn’t know was that my Uncle John was outside punching the walls and praying.

What I didn’t know was that my Dad was praying, “he’s just a young man, he has his

Whole life in front of him, I wish God would take me.”  My grandfather, Carl Wallman,

Who was 72 years old and in fair health, was praying the same words as my father.  The

Day that I left Saint John’s Hospital and went to my Aunt’s to recuperate, my grandfather

Had a stroke and went into that same hospital.  My grandfather died February 26^th, 1977.

 

I have lived my whole life with a chronic illness and in severe chronic pain.  I had always

Wanted to meet a woman and have my own family.  It never did happen for me.  My health, and my finances due to health, were factors.

 

Many years later, in a different city, I met a woman who I was immediately attracted to.

I will call her Jennifer for the purposes of this story.

 

Jennifer was a petite woman of not more than 100 pounds.  Jennifer took an immediate

Dislike to me---though I couldn’t imagine why.  I knew I didn’t say or do anything.

Jennifer had the three most beautiful girls---about 8, 10, and 14 years old.  They were

A beautiful family of Hispanic origin.  It turned out that there was some sexual abuse within the family.

 

I was never quite able to connect with Jennifer---but years later I got a card signed by

Jennifer and the three girls that read:

 

 

                   “we will keep in touch with you and remember you are in our thoughts and

                     Hearts as well as God’s.”

 

While it will never be the kind of love I had hoped for as a young man, I will always love

This woman and her 3 girls; with ”a spiritual kind of love.”

 

Jennifer’s birthday is February 26^th.  I guess you could say:  “I OWED GOD ONE.”

Christ lived a perfect life

He died a shameful death

But because he was perfect

God brought him back to life

Proving once and for all

THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Is in fact

THE WORDS OF LIFE

 

The early Christians

Died for the Spirit of God

And for the Spirit of Life

 

But I believe

That TODAY

God is asking us

For a different kind of sacrifice

He is asking us

To be a Living Sacrifice

 

“Therefore, I urge you

In view of God’s mercy

To offer your bodies as a living sacrifice

Holy and pleasing to God

This is your spiritual act of worship

Do NOT conform any longer

To the pattern of this world

Bu be transformed

By the renewing of your mind”                                                        Romans 12:1 & 2

 

There is a saying that goes something like this

 

“Do all the good you can

For all the people that you can

For we shall pass this way

JUST ONCE”

 

“I am the God of Abraham

The God of Isaac

And the God of Jacob

He is NOT the God of the dead

But of the LIVING”                                                                            Matthew 22:32

 

“If anyone is thirsty

Let him come to me and drink

Whoever believes in me

As the scripture has said

Streams of living water

Will flow from within him”                                                                 John 7:37

 

Chances are---at least in America

You won’t have to die for your faith

But I urge to live for your faith

Of a meeting

He is the Messiah

But not to tell anyone

Of course she does

 

But her friends

Come to believe in Jesus

Not only on her word

But because they too

Experience Jesus for themselves

 

All faith/All knowledge

Starts out as second hand

Because we first learn of it

From someone

Or something else

The great Catholic Bishop

Bishop Fulton Sheen

Was once asked

If he had speech writers

He said, of course,

“Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John”

 

All of us

Have those same speech writers

 

And just because our knowledge

Is second hand

It does not mean

It is second rate

 

And just because

Our faith starts out

As second hand

It does not remain that way

 

By internalizing our faith

Into the everyday fabric

Of our lives

And by sharing our faith with others

In fact

Our faith becomes first hand

 

Faith makes us

Strong, loving, and wise

And having our faith

And sharing our faith

Means we are

Never alone

 

We will always have God

And the love

And faith of each other

GOD WOULDN’T LET ME

 

 

 

 

 

I wanted to

Throw in the towel

I wanted to give it all up

I really wanted to

But

God wouldn’t let me

 

God wouldn’t let me

Throw it all away

God wouldn’t let me

Turn my back

And walk away

 

He kept giving me

Miracle after miracle

He kept giving me

People to see me through

And when I didn’t

Have a dime in my pocket

He gave me that too

 

I wanted to

Throw it all away

I wanted to walk away

I was really ready to

But

God wouldn’t let me

 

So many miracles

In my life

I wouldn’t know

Where or how to begin

 

Every time

I wanted to give up

THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE CONTINUES!

 

 

 

 

 

 

THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE CONTINUES!=But in Jesus=

WE WILL TRIUMPH!

 

My DEAR Brothers and SISTERS=We are in=The SPIRITUAL BATTLE=for our LIVES=

In this life=But if we ARE FAITHFUL=We will TRIUMPH IN JESUS=and MOVE ONWARD=

To LIVE with the Holy Father God and=HIS SON=In the next life=In Jesus=WE WILL

TRIUMPH!=”Jesus was LED by the Spirit=Into the desert=To be TEMPTED by the

Devil”                                                                                                                                                                    Matthew 4:1

 

Let us FACE IT=Dear sisters and BROTHERS=This WORLD=is FULL of temptation=But

Jesus FACED the devil HEAD ON=and TRIUMPHED over everything=The devil threw at

Him=INCLUDING DEATH=And we CAN TRIUMPH TOO!=If we tie our YOKE  to Jesus’ yoke=

And the Holy Father of God=At the BEGINNING of his ministry=Jesus directly FACED Satan=and

ENDURED his taunts=and endured his temptations=Jesus TRIUMPHED!=We can too!=But

The spiritual BATTLE  WILL CONTINUE DAILY=and it is a CHOICE=of choosing God and LOVE=

OVER the devil and his temptations=But in Jesus=WE CAN TRIUMPH TOO!

 

“Your gates  will=Always stand open=They will never be shut=Day or night=So that the people

May bring you=The wealth of the nations=--------Their kings led IN

TRIUMPHAL procession”                                                                                                                                Isaiah 60:11

“But thanks be to God=Who always leads us=as captives=IN CHRIST’S  TRIUMPHAL PROCESSION=

And uses us=to spread=The aroma of the knowledge=Of him everywhere”            2 Corinthians 2:14

“And having disarmed=The powers and authorities=He made a public spectacle of them

TRIUMPHING OVER THEM=by the cross”                                                                                          Colossians 2:15

 

My dear BROTHERS AND SISTERS=Jesus WON his SPIRITUAL BATTLE=With Satan  and

THE CROSS=He was the EVER LIVING=EVER LOVING=Son of the HOLY FATHER GOD!=but for

US=Our spiritual BATTLES continue=But we can WIN TOO=By tying our yokes to=THE
BODY AND BLOOD=of Jesus Christ

 

WE face TEMPTATIONS DAILY!=Sexual temptations=Financial temptations=and RELATIONSHIP

Temptations=but by KEEPING our eyes FIXED on Jesus=WE CAN BE TRIUMPHANT TOO!=We

CAN WIN the battle=Like Jesus and the Father=Learn their way!=”I press on toward=toward

The goal=to WIN THE PRIZE=For which God has called me =Heavenward

In Christ Jesus”                                                                                                                                              Philippians 3:14

“……..So that your daily life=MAY WIN the respect of outsiders=and so that you  will NOT=

Be dependent on anybody”                                                                                                          1 Thessalonians 4:12

 

My brothers and sisters=IN CHRIST=Temptations are NOT a one day=or one time affair=It is

A BATTLE=We must face daily=and STAY on the right side=Of Jesus and his Father=THE EVIL

ONE and his forces=WENT after Jesus daily=Just as he goes after us=It is ongoing=THE SPIRITUAL

BATTLE CONTINUES=Until the end of time=Here on earth=”This is what the LORD says=to you’=

‘Do NOT be afraid or discouraged=Because of this vast army=FOR THE BATTLE=Is not yours=

BUT GOD’S’”                                                                                                                                            2 Chronicles 20:15

 

Dear Lord=WE YOUR SISTERS and brothers=Here on earth PRAY=for the wisdom and the STRENGTH=To FIGHT the evil one=and his temptations=Just as you did=and you know

 

WE WILL BE TRIUMPHANT=In this continuing SPIRITUAL BATTLE=Between the devil=and you=

IF we KEEP our yokes=TIED TO YOURS!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=of our EVER LIVING=FOREVER LOVING=FOREVER TRIUMPHANT=

Holy Father God!

MEASURING SUCCESS

 

 

How do you measure success

In your life

In today’s world

 

The secular world tells us

That more is better

Bigger is best

And if you are NOT no. 1

It is insignificant

 

It measures our value

By how much money

Or material wealth that we have

Or what

Our boyfriend or girlfriend looks like

 

And it is WRONG

 

The standards of God

Are different than this world

 

God tells us

That we

A single individual in this world MATTER

 

Regardless of our wealth

Or what we look like

 

ALL we have to do

Is look at the parables

In the 15^th chapter of Saint Luke’s Gospel

To know HOW GOD FEELS about us

 

He tells us

ABOUT ONE lost sheep

ABOUT ONE LOST COIN

AND ABOUT ONE LOST SON

Trying to reconnect with his loving father

 

God doesn’t say-“Count my sheep”

He says-“FEED them”

 

So we know

That whoever we are

Whatever state that we are in

That we matter to God

AND GOD LOVES US

 

Jesus spent countless time-hours

Meeting with people one-on-one

Healing them-eating with them

Spending time with them

And then going off ALONE to pray

 

ONE MATTERS-to God

ONE MATTERS-to Christ

 

ONE MATTERS-YOU MATTER

 

Mother Theresa said,

“One does NOT call us to be successful

But to be FAITHFFUL”

 

And even

When we fail

In our life long battle to be faithful

As Saint Peter did

 

Jesus reaches out to us

In love and forgiveness

 

So we KNOW

That our success

DEPENDS on our relationship with God

February 23^rd

 

“Heaven’s Angel”

 

 

You can measure how tall I am

You can measure how wide

You can measure my IQ and other skills

But you can never measure my desire and will

You don’t know what I have inside

 

Even with the best of machines

There’s many things they cannot see

They can’t see how hard I try

They can never measure my desire

 

There’s something you always wanted to do

But you’ve always been afraid to

Now go on and try

 

My conscience keeps telling me I can’t do it

But my willpower keeps saying go ahead and try

You’ll never succeed unless you try

Now go on reach down

See if you have what it takes inside

Farther

Reach--way way down

No

Way down

There you got it

You got what it takes inside

 

He’s got the pride of a lion

The courage of a bear

The mental determination of a bull

And the finesse of a deer

But he has the meekness of a lamb

And the heart of a dove

How can one person possess all these qualities

Surely he must be a gift from up above

 

He’ll stare you in the face

And tell you you’re wrong

Even with all the facts against him

You’ll start to believe him before very long

You’ve never seen a person with such conviction

You’ve never seen a man with so much belief in himself

There’s nothing  capable of stopping him

Not one single restriction

He belongs on a plateau all by himself

 

He’s got the pride of a lion

The courage of a bear

The mental determination of a bull

And the finesse of a deer

But he has the meekness of a lamb

And the heart and spirit of a dove

How can one person possess all those qualities

Surely he’s a gift from up above

 

He’s a man who hates to fight

He’ll do anything to avoid it

But if you get in his way

You’ll never beat him

If he believes he is right

And after he knocks you down

He’ll pick you up and tell you he’s sorry

And ask you if you are alright

 

He isn’t very tall

He isn’t very wide

He isn’t exceptional in his other skills

But you can’t measure his desire and will

You could never measure what he has inside

You just can’t measure how hard he tries

 

When he’s beset by a  challenge

One that looks like he’ll never do

He just reaches way down

Way way down

As far as he has to

Until he scrapes his inner soul

And finds what he needs inside

 

No matter what the situation

He is never beat

But you can’t help but like him

Because his feeling and gentleness show through

Regardless of how hard he tries

 

He’s got the pride of a lion

The courage of a bear

The mental determination of a bull

And the finesse of a deer

But he has the gentleness of a lamb

And the heart and soul of a dove

He is surely a gift from up above

(Discipleship IN THE LORD)!

 

LENT is the TIME for us=To find NEW LIFE!=We do this=I do this=With a

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP With Jesus=and the HOLY FATHER GOD!=and IN
DISCIPLESHHIP with our Lord=This is THE WAY!=”Even now=Says the Lord=RETURN

To me=With your WHOLE HEART……..”                                                                                            Joel 2:12

 

IF you have been=MISSING IN ACTION=and AWAY from the Lord for awhile=There is

NO BETTER TIME=Than Lent=to RETURN to the Lord=THIS IS THE WAY!=TO NEW LIFE!=and

The time IS NOW!=To return to the LORD=FIND your way=IN the DISCIPLESHIP WITH=

The Lord=”If you RETURN to the Lord=Then your fellow Israelites=and your children will be=

Shown compassion=By their captors=and WILL RETURN to this land=For the Lord your God=is Gracious and compassionate=He will not=Turn his face from you=IF YOU RETURN

To him”                                                                                                                                                     2 Chronicles 30:9

“……..So is my Word=That goes out from my mouth=It will NOT RETURN to me empty=But

Will accomplish=What I desire and achieve the PURPOSE=for which I sent it”             Isaiah 55:11

“Come let us=RETURN TO THE LORD=He has torn us to pieces=But he will heal us=He

Has injured us=But he will BIND up our wounds”                                                                 Hosea 6:1

 

THE WORD of the Lord=THE LIFE of the Lord=Is not about LONG FACES and showy gestures=

It has a GOAL=Of some worldly withdrawal=and detachment=From materialistic values=and

Things like fame=and fortune and status=and it is about AN ATTAINMENT=of a deeper relationship=

With Jesus=and the HOLY FATHER GOD=If not now=If not this LENT=then when?=Discipleship With

The  Lord =LEADS us to freedom and JOY=Which can ONLY come from Jesus=and his Father=

THIS IS THE WAY!=Discipleship WITH THE LORD!

 

“And if anyone=Gives even a cup=of cold water=to one of these little ones=Who is MY DISCIPLE=

Truly I tell you=That person will certainly=NOT lose their reward”                                           Matthew 10:42

“And whoever does NOT=Carry their cross=and follow me=Cannot be my disciple”      Luke 14:27

“To the JEWS=who had believed in him=Jesus said’=’IF you hold to my teaching=You are

Really MY DISCIPLES=Then you will Know=the truth=and the truth=

WILL SET YOU FREE’”                                                                                                                                        John 8:31-32

 

This 40 DAY JOURNEY=that we are ON=this Lent=Should bring us CLOSER to Jesus and=

HIS HOLY FATHER=and put us on a=FIRM PATH TO DISCIPLESHIP=In God and Jesus=and

IN LOVE=If LOVE is in your HEART=THIS IS THE WAY!=This is the way=To freedom=This is the

WAY to joy=This is THE WAY TO TRUTH!=and that  makes you=ONE STEP CLOSER=to being a

21^st century apostle and disciple OF JESUS’

“A new command=I give you=LOVE ONE ANOTHER=As I have loved you=so you must LOVE

ONE ANOTHER=By this everyone will know=That you are my disciples=IF YOU LOVE

ONE ANOTHER”                                                                                                                                                John 13:34-35

“So for a whole year=Barnabas and Saul=Met with the CHURCH=and taught great numbers=

Of people=THE DISCIPLES=were CALLED CHRISTIANS first at Antioch”                                    ACTS 11:26

 

MY DEAR sisters and BROTHERS=the cross is THE WAY TO DISCIPLESHIP=It may bring suffering=

But it also BRINGS JOY=freedom=and IT IS=THE WAY TO NEW LIFE!=and a personal relationship

With Jesus=and HIS FATHER=IT IS=THE  ONLY WAY=TO NEW LIFE!=This Lent=Find it in=YOUR HEARTS=To follow the=LORD OF LOVE!=and HIS FATHER!
