TAKE A LOOK---TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK




There’s a man
Out there on the hill
With something on his back
Walking, struggling
Trying to move along


He was
Made to do this
By a man
By the name of Pilate
Because
He fell out of favor
With the people


But he picked up the cross
Willingly
And moved right along


He fell once, He fell twice
And even a third time
But he kept getting back up
The people all knew
It was wrong


Take a look
At this man
Take a good long look


The people of his day
Did not want
To confront their sins
The same as me and you today


They keep---we keep
Living out of coldness
Living out of ingratitude
Living out of selfishness
Denying the needs of one another


Along the way
On his walk with the cross
He met his Mother
Along the way
He wept for the women of Jerusalem---
And the people of his day


Take a look
Take a very long good look


He knew
That these sins
Had to be confronted


He knew
That these sins
Had to be carried
Had to be put away


Keep looking
See that cross
That cross that he is carrying
It is the perfect definition of his love
For you and for me


The greatest love, he once said,
“Is to lay down one’s life
For his friends”


He is stripped
Take a look


He is crucified
Take a very long look


He dies
And is put in the tomb
Keep on looking


His carrying of the cross
Is the answer to ALL of our needs


His perfect compassion
His perfect love


Jesus
The Lamb of God
Jesus
The perfect life
Jesus
The perfect love


Hanging out there in the tree
For you and for me

THREATENED BY GOOD?

THREATENED BY GOOD?


Are you one of
Those people=who are
THREATENED by Good?


Threatened by good things-
Around you=threatened by
GOOD PEOPLE?


In today's reading=we read
About “wicked people” being
Threatened by good or
Righteous people


“To us he is the CENSURE
Of our thoughts=
Merely to see him


Is a hardship
For us........” Wisdom 2:14


I think sometimes
When we are bad people=
Or making bad choices


When we are in the wrong
When we have some SENSE
That we are doing so


We become THREATENED
By the mere presence
Of those who are
DOING AUTHENTIC GOOD


There is an old saying=
“IF you can't beat them-
JOIN THEM”


So if we are NOT doing good-
This is the PERFECT OPPORTUNITY
For us to JOIN those
Who are doing GOOD


Get in the right
DO the right thing
JOIN them=join the group


“I cried like
A swift or thrush-
I moaned
Like a mourning dove


My eyes grew weak
As I looked
To the heavens


I am BEING THREATENED=Lord=
Come to my AID!” Isaiah 38:14


The person doing GOOD
Doesn't have
To criticize us


The mere fact
That they are doing good
Doing the RIGHT THING--------


Whatever that is
Feels like an INDICTMENT
To us


So if we aren't doing right
Let us BEGIN to do right
Let us begin to do GOOD


Let us JOIN those doing right and
Those doing good


“In those days
The people of Judah
Will JOIN the people
Of Israel


And together they will come
From a northern land
To the land
I gave your ancestors
As an inheritance” Jeremiah 3:18


“JOIN with me
In suffering
Like a good soldier
Of Jesus Christ” 2 Timothy 2:3


Dear Lord=help us
To NOT BE THREATENED
By right=by those doing good things


Hep us to JOIN the
Good and righteous
Of this world


And BECOME a 21^st century apostle=
And do RIGHT in today's world


And help us to UNDERSTAND-
If we become ANNOYED
By a person doing good


Or annoyed by a truly good person


It is only our OWN JUDGMENTS
That we feel


In Jesus' name =and in the name=of our TRULY GOOD=truly loving FATHER

WHAT KIND OF WATER




Picture this:


You are a young or middle-aged woman
At the water cooler
Of your office
Getting a drink of water


A young man comes up
And approaches you


In addition
This young man
Is not the same color, race, or religion
As you


The man
Proceeds to tell you
About a different kind of water


“If you drink the water
I give you
You will
Never be thirsty again
And you will have
Eternal life”


You look at this man
Like he was crazy
And think to yourself,
“What did he just say?”


You ask
For some of this water
And the man replies,
“Go call your husband”


You reply
“I have no husband
This man says, “I know”
And proceeds to tell you
About every significant relationship
That you ever had
In your life


At this point
You take a step back
You recognize,
“This is no ordinary man”


You think to yourself
This man is a prophet
And say,
“I know the Messiah is coming”


The man says,
“I who speak to you
Am he”


This man Jesus
Tells the woman
NOT to tell anyone
What he said and did


Of course she does
What would you do


Better yet Lord
Please tell us

ANGRY WITH GOD?

ANGRY WITH GOD?


Do you ever get
ANGRY with God?=over
One thing or another


WHEN you don't get
Something that you wanted-
Or something really bad HAPPENS=
I know
That I do


“So the Lord relented
In the punishment
He had threatened


To inflict
On his people” Exodus 32:14


I liked how
Moses ARGUED with God=
I think I like Moses
Because I argue with God too


Or at least DISCUSS
My many problems
With God too=
And I don't think
God minds=
I think that is what
PRAYER really is


OPENING ourselves up and
Our feelings=About everything
We feel in life=
Like happiness-anger-etc. etc., etc.,


Job is another one
We know of=who DISCUSSED
With=or ARGUED his case
With God


“But I desire
To speak to
The Almighty


And to ARGUE
My case with God” Job 13:3


“Will you show him
Partiality=will you ARGUE
The case for GOD? Job 13:8


“'Present your case'
Says the Lord
'Set forth your ARGUMENTS'
Says Jacob's King” Isaiah 41:21


I think we all like
To present our cases
To God=I think we
All like to TELL GOD
WHY our way is better


HOW could you let
That happen to me?
How come all the GOOD THINGS
Happen to all the BAD PEOPLE?


Fortunately for us=God forgives
Our complaining=just as
He forgave the Israelites=
And he forgave MOSES


Sometimes we just fail
To forgive God=sometimes we
Just don't listen to God=
Sometimes we get
ENSLAVED to just what
We want


Nevertheless GOD LOVES US=
God listens to us=
And our anger


He tries to lead us
OUT OF SLAVERY and sin
And in the right direction


“DIRECT me
In the path
Of your commands


For there
I find delight” Psalm 119:35


“DIRECT my footsteps
According to you word=
Let no sin
Rule over me” Psalm 119:133


Dear Lord=thank you
For leaving an OPEN DOOR
Between you and me


Thank you for listening
To us=even when
WE ARE ANGRY


And forgiving us=even
WHEN our arguments
Make no sense


In Jesus' name=and in the name
Of our always loving=
ALWAYS LISTENING GOD

For each
And EVERY ONE of us Christians
Our mission-our job
Is the same


To bring some measure
OF GOD’S LOVE
Of Christ’s life
Alive in some way
In today’s world


For ourselves
And if we are
BLESSED with the opportunity
For someone else


God BEGAN a work in you
At Baptism
And will carry it on
To completion-if we let him


“I THANK my God

Being confident of this

Don’t worry
It is common
It is called growth

From Baptism
As a baby
Or maybe you
Were born again
And recommitted your life to God


For each of us
Our journey is different


What is common
Is that
We are all
On a journey
And we all
Have a personal relationship with God
(If we choose to)


GOD BEGAN
A good and perfect work in you
And GOD WILL
Carry it on to completion


“The fear of the Lord
Is the beginning of wisdom
All who follow his precepts
Have good understanding
To him belongs eternal praise” Psalm 111:10


“The fear of the Lord
Is the beginning of knowledge

God began
A good and perfect work in you
God will
CARRY IT ON TO COMPLETION
And we know
He will carry
That perfect work in us
THROUGH LOVE

Bob Hope—the famous comedian
Was once asked by a woman
In an airport,


“Can you say something funny?”


“No I can’t,” Mr. Hope responded
“I don’t have my funny speech writers with me”


I guess he didn’t need them after all


Another famous man,
The great Catholic Bishop---Bishop Fulton Sheen
Was once asked,
“Do you have speech writers?”
Bishop Sheen responded,
“Well yes I do---
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John”


Who are the speech writers
Of your life


Your parents---perhaps a trusted sibling
Some close friends


I suggest to you
That there are no accidents in life
We become
Who and what we choose to be
Who and what
We surround ourselves with


“If you are faithful in small things
You will be faithful in large”

The Bible has been
A source of great inspiration for me


The Bible has taught me
Of God’s unconditional love for me ( and you )

The last number
Of years=I have
Been SHARING with all
Of you=MY POEMS
As I am STARTING to
Show some SIGNS of
WEAR and TEAR on my body=
I wonder HOW LONG
It will continue
REGARDLESS=of how long
It is=I just want
To say=
I will REMEMBER
ALL OF YOU with love
And I THANK YOU
For every moment you
Have GIVEN TO ME
And my writings
