PRAYER is nothing less than communication between you and God-I PRAY for ALL my family-friends-and churches and their needs every day-THE truth is-I don't know WHY some prayers are answered and some are not-ALL that I know is that we SHOULD NEVER quit praying and we should never quit opening our hearts-mind and-souls to God-for I KNOW God listens


Dear Lord-I PRAY that you listen to our prayers and you hear MY PRAYERS for ALL those in NEED
today


IT IS a great day to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to PRAY for ALL those in NEED of PRAYER














THE NEED FOR GOD




Contrary to the public opinion
In today’s world
There is a NEED FOR GOD
In our lives
In fact more today
Than ever before


More in our lives globally
More in our lives nationally
And more in our lives
Both in our families
And in our lives individually


Take a look around
Are you seeing
The same world that I am seeing


We have war in our streets
We have murder
We have rape
We have incest
And we have child abuse


Our families are NOT safe
Our children are NOT safe
And it is NOT safe to be on the streets
Of any major city in this country


And we have
MORE of a need for God
In our lives than ever before


“Do not be like them ( the pagans )
For your Father
Knows what you need
Before you ask him” Matthew 6:8


We have war among governments
We are having complete financial breakdowns
In many European countries
And yet the prevailing opinion is
For less God
In today’s world


The last time that I checked
It was not God
Who was responsible
For many of these things
It was us-but of course-WE KNOW BETTER


MORE GOD-not less


“Share with God’s people
Who are in need
Practice hospitality” Romans 12:13


MORE GOD-not less


Love God with your whole heart
Love your neighbor as yourself
Forgive 70x7


It doesn’t sound to me
Like God’s teachings
Lead to murder in the streets,
Rape, incest, or child abuse


It’s the me first-you last-or you never attitude
That exists in our world today
Selfishness
That is what gets us into trouble


Families breaking down-losing friendships
Over health, money, sex, and death


“He who despises his neighbor sins
But BLESSED is he
Who is kind to the needy” Proverbs 20:21


MORE GOD-not less


Leave the NAME OF GOD on money
Leave PUBLIC PRAYER in schools


Let us all
PRAY to the ONE true God
Whose name is LOVE


“So when you give to the needy
Do NOT announce it with trumpets
As the hypocrites do
In the synagogues
And on the streets
To be honored by man


I tell you the truth
They have received their reward in full” Matthew 6:2


More we-LESS I
MORE GOD-less me


We pray WITH GREAT NEED
To God
To my/our LORD and SAVIOR Jesus Christ
To help us
To HELP THIS WORLD
IN OUR TIME OF NEED


“The Lord
Will guide you always
He will satisfy your needs
In a sun-scorched land
And will strengthen your frame


You will be
Like a well-watered garden
Like a spring
Whose waters NEVER FAIL” Isaiah 58:11


We pray for help
To the one true God
WHOSE NAME IS LOVE


THE NEED FOR GOD

WHEN we come to God in prayer-we BRING our whole lives to God-and we OPEN UP our heart-mind-and soul to God-Jesus teaches us to:

1. HONOR GOD
   
2. ACKNOWLEDGE his priority in our lives
   
3. ASK for what we need
   
4. and LIVE in GRATITUDE to God-regardless of how he answers our prayers

“YOU are anxious and WORRIED about many things-THERE IS ONLY one thing NEEDED”
Luke 10:36


In the famous story of Martha and Mary-Jesus teaches us a thing or two about MISPLACED WORRY-
Martha and Mary are two sisters RECEIVING Jesus and the apostles at their house for a dinner party


Martha is concerned and going about the SERVING of the dinner-and Mary is just sitting at Jesus' feet hanging on his EVERY word-Martha complains to Jesus and Jesus has a SURPRISING RESPONSE


“ONLY ONE THING is needed-Mary has CHOSEN the better part-and it will NOT be taken away from her” Luke 10:42


Dear Lord -we pray that as we GO ABOUT living our lives that we KEEP you and THE WORD of God FIRST in our lives-it is STILL the one thing that is NEEDED-if we do this-everything else in our lives will FALL into place


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day to BEGIN to REPLACE misguided worry with FAITH

We all
Have a multitude
Of worry
In our life


Worry abut health
Worry about money
Worry about broken relationships


We all have
A multitude of worries
A multitude of anxieties
That we
Can do nothing about


Luckily for us
In the Sermon on the Mount
In the 6^th chapter
Of Saint Matthew’s Gospel
Jesus tells us
How to handle worry
God has everything
Under control


“Seek first
The Kingdom of God
And his righteousness
And all those things ( the necessities of life )
Will be given to you as well”


Worry worry everywhere
Everywhere that I turn
Everywhere that I look
Something or someone else
Is coming at me
Like never before


“Do not worry
About tomorrow
For tomorrow
Will worry about itself
Each day
Has trouble enough
Of its own”


So please
Don’t worry
Whatever your troubles
May be


God has everything
Under control


Seek first
The Kingdom of God
God---and his righteousness
Has it all under control


So give your worries to God
And your anxiety too
And your worry
Will be replaced faith


Replaced by
The peace of God
Which transcends all understanding


Do not worry about tomorrow
For today
Has trouble enough
Of its own


Give all your worries and anxieties
To God
God will give you peace

Jesus asked,-'WHICH of these three-in your opinion-was neighbor to the robbers victim?'” Luke 10:36




The story of THE GOOD SAMARITAN is ONE of the favorite gospel stories of all time-And in it Jesus teaches the scholar and us that A TRUE NEIGHBOR might be someone that we despise-like the Samaritan-a SAMARITAN was a man that the JEWS regarded as an enemy and spiritually unclean


IT might be a good time for each of us to REFLECT about who has surprised us and shown us MERCY in our life when we didn't expect it or DESERVE IT-WHO CAN WE pass that same mercy on to in our lives?


DEAR LORD-we ask you to TEACH US to learn to ACT WITH MERCY in thought-word-and deed


IT IS a great day to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to show someone MERCY today

Jesus responds with a story

Let us help one another

Give it a try


Jesus goes on to say
A priest comes by
And just keeps on going


Neighbor for neighbor
Give it a try


A Levite passes by
And just keeps on going

But a Samaritan comes by
Stops, bandages his wounds
Takes the man to an inn
Pays for his room

THIS PARABLE of Jesus'-ILLUSTRATES the importance of our responsibilities to PARTICIPATE in GOD'S KINGDOM on earth-WE ARE CALLED to love God and our neighbor-and we are called to live by the LAW OF FORGIVENESS-WE ARE CALLED to be models of Jesus' LOVE AND MERCY


WORDSARE GREAT-but words must be TURNED INTO ACTION if we are to BEAR FRUIT in this world


it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a GREAT DAY to begin bearing FRUIT for GOD

BEARING FRUIT In This life




Is your life
Bearing fruit


Are you living a life
Based on the fruit of God


Are you living a life
Based on
The teaching of Christ


If you are
I guarantee you
You are
Living a life
That is bearing fruit


“The fruit of the spirit is love,
Joy, peace, patience, kindness,
Goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control


Against such things
There is no law” Galatians 5:22-24


EVIL has no chance
Against such a person
Bearing ALL these qualities


And these people
Are bearing fruit


And I urge you
NOT to give up on people
JUST LIKE FRUIT
Some people take awhile
To mature-to ripen


GOOD people
Will bear good fruit


“NO good tree
Bears bad fruit
Nor does a bad tree
Bear good fruit
Each tree is recognized
By its own fruit” Luke 6:43


Give it time
Give people time


“He is like a tree
Planted by streams of water
Which yields fruit in season
And whose leaf does not wither
Whatever he does prospers” Psalm 1:3


There are many good people
In this world
Like fruit
They need time to develop


And if you give them
This time
I guarantee you
When you leave this world
You will be leaving much fruit


Just live
With the fruits of the spirit:
“Love-joy-peace-patience
Kindness-goodness-faithfulness
Gentleness-and self-control”


And you will
Bear much fruit
With your life


“By their fruit
YOU WILL RECOGNIZE THEM”

DO YOU sometimes feel that the problems of our world are overwhelming-I KNOW that I do-that sometimes we can't do anything EVEN in our own corner of the world-EVIL IS REAL


BUT GOD gives us weapons to USE FOR GOOD-HE gives us the GRACE TO LOVE-to express gratitude-and to smile-AND most of all he gives us THE GOOD BOOK-his very own WORD-to assist us


Dear Lord-like Saint Francis of Assisi whose feast it is today-may you ask him to MENTOR us in USING the WORD OF GOD as WEAPONS OF LIGHT in today's world


it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S never ending-ever lasting love for us

Have you hungered
For the word of God
To live inside of you


Many times
I have said to someone
Or they have said to me,


“ARE YOU IN THE WORD?”


The word of God
Will never
Magically appear
Inside of you


But if you
Takes 5 minutes a day
And read THE WORD OF GOD


God’s word
Will live inside of you—IN TIME


What is God’s word


GOD’S WORD
Is the power of creation
Simply put
It is the sustaining of life
Living inside of you


It is also
Our tool against Satan
Against the forces of darkness
Living in the world


When the devil
Tempted Jesus in the desert
Jesus answered,


“It is written
“Man does not live on bread alone
But on every word
That comes from
The mouth of God” Matthew 4:4


Are you in the word


Granted
If you have
Never picked up a Bible
The process can be overwhelming


Just pick up the Bible
And start reading
About a subject that interests you


And soon
You will be saying
To your friends:


“ARE YOU IN THE WORD?”

It makes LITTLE SENSE to try and hide from God-we may be TEMPED-but it is something we can NEVER DO-for GOD is ALWAYS waiting for us to RETURN TO HIM


THE PRESENCE OF GOD-lives within us whether we want it to or NOT-and we should be WILLING
to RESPOND to that PRESENCE


GOD is the ever gentle parent willing to let us wander-but ALWAYS waiting for us to RETURN to HIM


It is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day for RETURNING HOME TO GOD

RETURNING HOME




Picture This:


You are a parent-a man or woman
Of between 50 and 60
Your grown-up child comes to you
And says:


“Give me my share
Of the inheritance
And I will go away
And never bother you again”


You RESENT it
But you do it


And your child goes away
Spends ALL of his or her money
On gambling, drinking, and member
Of the opposite sex


The years come
And the years go
And finally your child
Comes home
And says


“I am sorry
I am no longer worthy
To be called your child”


He or she
Comes to BEG for anything
You would/or could give him


But before your child
Makes it to the door
You run to him or her
HUG them
And throw
A party for them


This is
EXACTLY the story
Of the Prodigal Son
In chapter 15 Of Saint Luke’s Gospel


Jesus tells this story
In response to the complaints
Of the Pharisees and teachers of the law
Who are complaining
About Jesus eating with sinners


“This man welcomes sinners
And eats with them” Luke 15:2


It’s terribly easy
To resent the rule breakers of society
And say
“They shouldn’t get away with it”


But if you’ve been away from God
And the church
For a long time


I invite you
To read chapter 15
Of Saint Luke’s Gospel
About one lost sheep
About one lost coin
And about one lost son
Returning home to his father


That’s the way
It is with OUR God
You always get ANOTHER CHANCE
