TRAVEL WITH HUMILITY=AND=
LEAVE THE OUTCOME TO GOD


We think we are HOT STUFF=
We think we have=
A lot of great ideas


But the REALITY IS=NOT everyone
Will welcome us in life=not
Everyone will say “YES” to
OUR great ideas


Or AGREE with our DEEPLY
Held thoughts and convictions


“Whatever place does not welcome you
Or LISTEN to you


Leave there=and shake the dust
OFF of your feet.........” Mark 6:11


In a way=it is a RELIEF
To read these words=as Jesus
SENDS OUT the twelve


It certainly EXPLAINS a lot
About the REACTION we get
From some people in this world


And it is a relief to KNOW
That we aren't the first
To get this reaction


Jesus and his FOLLOWERS
Were greeted in this SAME WAY


Travel with HUMILITY=
Leave the outcome
UP TO GOD


“In your majesty
Ride forth VICTORIOUSLY


In the cause of truth=
HUMILITY=and justice
Let your right hand


Achieve awesome deeds” Psalm 45:4


“WISDOM'S instruction
Is to fear the Lord


And humility
Comes BEFORE HONOR” Proverbs 15:33


“By the HUMILITY and
Gentleness of Christ
I appeal to you---------


I-Paul---------
Who am “timid”
When face to face with you


But”BOLD” toward you
When away” 2 Corinthians 10:1


In this BUSY and narcissistic world=
People don't want to even
GREET YOU=let alone
Spend time with you


It HURTS=
To be received this way


But Jesus says=to
DUST OFF the reception=
KEEP up the journey=and keep on
MOVING FORWARD with an open heart


And LEAVE the OUTCOME
Up to God


“REMEMBER your leaders
Who spoke the WORD of God
To you


Consider the OUTCOME
Of their way of life
And IMITATE their FAITH


Jesus Christ is SAME yesterday=
And today=and FOREVER” Hebrews 13:7-7


“For it is TIME
For judgment to begin
With God's household


And IF it begins with us-
What will the OUTCOME BE
For those who-
Do NOT obey=
The GOSPEL OF GOD?” 1 Peter 4:17


Keep moving forward=and TRAVEL
With HUMILITY


OFFER love and compassion=
Do good works=and SPREAD
The GOSPEL with your life


Leave success/failure and THE results
UP TO GOD

SAINT JOHN BOSCO=A SAINT FOR THE CHILDREN

Saint John Bosco---a Saint for the children










Today when
The sexual abuse of young children
Is so prevalent
It is heartening
To look at the past
To the lives
Of some of the Saints


John---actually called Don Bosco
Was born in 1815
His father died
When he was 2 years old


His mother brought him up
In extreme poverty
He was so poor
That when he entered the seminary
In 1831
His clothes and shoes
Had to be donated


He was ordained in1841
And soon thereafter
He began his life’s work
Which was the education
Of young apostolate boys---and young men
Particularly in working class families


He also worked in the slums---in prisons
And was appointed a chaplain
At a refuge for young girls


After leaving as chaplain for the girls
He lived in poverty with his mother
And 40 destitute young boys


Don Bosco had a charismatic personality
Had great oratory skills
Was an eloquent preacher
And popular writer


“Don” was also a visionary
A wonder worker
And had an extraordinary gift
For handling difficult children


Usually without punishing them
But with gentleness and a firm hand


A typical day for Don
Was to take the boys to Mass
Followed by a picnic in the country---games---
And a catechism class


Don Bosco
Founded the Salesian order
And also The Daughters of our Lady Help of Christians for girls


It is important to remember
That at a time
When the Catholic church is taking so much criticism
About the handling of the abuse scandal
And rightfully so


Important to remember
All the good the Catholic Church has done
In the building up of faith
For BOTH adults and children
Through men like Saint John Bosco
Down through the years

THOSE ASTONISHING WORDS!


Jesus always SPOKE the
Most amazing words=those in his MINISTRY
Were “ASTONISHED”=usually in ADMIRATION
Of him


But those in his hometown
RESENTED him=those who KNEW
Him best=BUT those of us who
Are CHRISTIANS=run into resentment too=
From time to time


“When the SABBATH came=
He began to teach
In the synagogue


And MANY who heard him
Were ASTONISHED” Mark 6:2


When Jesus says, “LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR,”
Or “Judge not,”=how amazing=how ASTONISHED
We all become


But when he says “TURN the other cheek,” or
“Eat my body-drink my blood”=how many of us
Shake our head=and fail to get it


Yet truly they STILL are
ASTONISHING WORDS=whether we
GET them or not


“When Jesus
Had FINISHED saying these things


The crowds
Were AMAZED at his teaching
Because he taught


As ONE who had authority
And NOT as their teachers
Of the law” Matthew 7:28


“The disciples were
AMAZED at his words
…........” Mark 10:24


The DISCIPLES were even
MORE AMAZED and said to each other=
'WHO then=can be SAVED?'” Mark 10:26


Those amazing=those ASTONISHING WORDS
Of Jesus


“Utterly AMAZED-they asked-
'Aren't all these who
Are speaking Galileans?=then
How is it that each of us
HEARS them in our native language
….....?'” Acts 2:7


The HOLY SPIRIT
Comes at Pentecost=
It is the Holy SPIRIT=shining light=
On the ASTONISHING WORDS of Jesus


Those ASTONISHING WORDS!


Jesus tells us to TAKE UP
Our cross DAILY=and NOT to expect
ANY better treatment
Than he himself got


Yes=those ASTONISHING WORDS=of Jesus=
These words that will LAST
FOREVER and ever
UNTIL the end of time


“Heaven and earth
Will pass away


BUT my words will
NEVER pass away” Matthew 24:35


“Simon Peter answered him=
'Lord-to whom shall we go?=
You have the words
Of ETERNAL LIFE


We have come to BELIEVE
And to know
That you are
The HOLY ONE of God'” John 6:68


Yes=SRCIPTURE verses=the
Words of Jesus=are ASTONISHING
In all sorts of ways


And they are CHALLENGING=challenging us
To LIVE the CHRISTIAN life=
And love like Jesus


Yes=now we have to LISTEN again=
Each day of our lives=
And become ASTONISHED by his words
OVER and over again=until
The end of time


THOSE ASTONISHING WORDS of Jesus


In Jesus' name and in his WORDS UNTIL the END of time=
And in the AMAZING LOVE of our HEAVENLY FATHER

DIVINE=BUT HUMAN TOO

DIVINE=BUT HUMAN TOO


Jesus was DIVINE=but he
Was also HUMAN=he had ALL
The traits and FEELINGS and temptations=
Of EACH one of us


But unlike us=he OVERCAME each
And every temptation that he had


“He gave strict orders that
NO ONE should know this


And said that she should =be given
SOMETHING to eat” Mark 5:43


ISN'T it remarkable that after
ALL the hubbub=that the FIRST
Thing that Jesus did AFTER RAISING
The girl from the dead


Was to make sure=she had
Something to eat=FULL of presence
Of mind=that Jesus was=KNOWING full well
What it was to be HUMAN TOO


He was down-to-earth=our Lord
AND Savior=He was not above
Anything=or any of us=yet we know
That he was DIVINE too


“For since the
CREATION of the world
GOD'S invisible qualities--------


His eternal power and DIVINE nature--------
have been clearly seen


Being understood
From what has been made
So that people
Are WITHOUT EXCUSE” Romans 1:20


“Through these-
He has given us
His very GREAT
And precious promises


So that through them
You may participate
In the DIVINE NATURE


Having escaped
The corruption of the world

Yes=we take great COMFORT
In this


Jesus KNOWS that we have to
Take CARE of the human side
Of our lives too


He KNOWS-
We NEED to eat=
Sleep=Take care of our cars=
And EVEN do laundry too


Jesus was DIVINE=but he had
A DUAL nature=he was HUMAN too


He=Jesus wants us to be=
PEOPLE OF FAITH=but he doesn't
EXPECT us to neglect our
Human needs


“You judge
By HUMAN STANDARDS


I pass judgment
On NO ONE” John 8:15


“Peter and the other apostles replied:
'We MUST obey God=rather=
Than human beings'” Acts 5:29


“You SHOW
That you are
A LETTER from Christ


The result
Of our ministry


Written NOT with ink
But with the SPIRIT
Of the LIVING GOD


Not on tablets of stone

We NEED to EMULATE the life
Of our Jesus Christ=being AWARE
Of the human


But BEING people of faith=LIVING
With the DIVINE NATURE

TELL PEOPLE!

TELL PEOPLE!


Has God=has Jesus=made a
DIFFERENCE in your life=if so=
Tell people=tell your FAMILY=
TELL your friends=
Tell the WHOLE WORLD


It is easy to WORSHIP GOD=
Inside of church=it is warm=
It is dry=and the LIGHTS are on


NOT so easy-though-to take God=
To take Jesus=out into this
VERY cruel world


But that is our JOB as CHRISTIANS=
To PROCLAIM the good news of
The Lord=and to LIVE
The good news

The man who had been possessed
PLEADED to remain with him


But Jesus would NOT permit him
But TOLD him instead


'GO HOME to your family and announce
To them=
ALL that the Lord=in his pity=
Has DONE for you'” Mark 5:18-19


YES TELL PEOPLE=tell everyone=
PROCLAIM the good news
Of the Lord=taking it
TO THE STREETS


“ALL people will fear
They will PROCLAIM
The works of God


And PONDER
What he has done” Psalm 64:9


“The SPIRIT of the Lord
Is on me
Because
He has anointed me


To PROCLAIM
Good news to the POOR


He has sent me to
PROCLAIM FREEDOM
For the prisoners

Yes=tell the people ABOUT THE LORD=
About all the GOOD
He has done for you=in your life


As we LEAVE the church
We KNOW=we will encounter struggles=
We know it will be
UNCOMFORTABLE in the street


Yes=it is much more COMFORTABLE=
INSIDE of the church=but we REAL CHRISTIANS=
We are called
To step OUTSIDE of our comfort zone


TELL PEOPLE about God
Tell people about what
The LORD has done for you
In your life


Yes I will go out=
I will go tell
THE GOOD NEWS of the LORD
I will TELL PEOPLE=ABOUT what the Lord has done


I will STEP OUTSIDE
Of my comfort zone
I will step outside
INTO the streets=with
The word of God
THE WORD OF LOVE


“May your unfailing LOVE
Be my COMFORT


According to your PROMISE
To your servant” Psalm 119:76


“Praise be
To the God and Father
To our Lord Jesus Christ


The Father of compassion
And the God
Of all COMFORT


Who COMFORTS US
In all our troubles


So that we can comfort those
In ANY trouble
With the COMFORT
We ourselves=RECEIVE from God” 2 Corinthians 1:3


Dear Lord=may we be UNAFRAID
To SHARE our stories of
The Lord=and all of his GOODNESS

HIS VOICE IS FULL OF LOVING KINDNESS

HIS VOICE IS FULL OF LOVING KINDNESS


Jesus was FULL OF LOVING KINDNESS=
During his years on earth


He USED his voice to heal
Others=to PREACH the word of God=
And to BRING as much good=as he could
DURING his time here on earth


UNFORTUNATELY=many of us in
This world=don't want to hear
The PROPHETIC VOICES of God


We didn't 2,000 years ago=and
We still don't want to hear them
TODAY


“A prophet like me=from among
YOUR OWN KIN” Deuteronomy 18:15


Jesus found out ALL too well
That people don't want
To HEAR from you


DON'T want to hear
The word of GOD
Especially from someone you know


KEEP your heart OPEN
Keep your ears open
Keep on listening
For the WORD OF GOD


No matter where it comes from
No matter WHO it
Comes from


EVEN if it is from
A priest or preacher
That you personally
Don't like


Jesus USES other voices
To speak to you/me/US
In LOVING KINDNESS


“ANYONE who withholds kindness
From a friend


Forsakes the fear
Of the ALMIGHTY” Job 6:14


“In a surge of anger
I HID my face from you
For a moment


But with EVERLASTING KINDNESS
I will have
COMPASSION on you


Says the Lord
Your REDEEMER” Isaiah 54:8


His voice=GOD'S VOICE=
Is full of EVERLASTING KINDNESS
For us and for our lives


“And God RAISED us up
In Christ
And seated us
With him


In the heavenly realms
In Christ Jesus


In order
That in the coming ages
He might SHOW
The incomparable riches


Of his grace
Expressed in his KINDNESS

Even today=we REJECT
The KINDRED VOICE=of our brother
Christ Jesus


But the psalmist tells us=to
BE AWARE to LISTEN
To the voice of Christ


We may just SURPRISE OURSELVES
In how well
We know his voice


And how much KINDNESS AND LOVE
There is for us
In his voice


MAY we always hear your VOICE=
My dear Jesus=my dear Lord=
And my dear God=and its LOVING KINDNESS

GROWING IN GOD=ALL IS GOOD!

GROWING IN GOD=ALL IS GOOD!


When I LOOK BACK on all
The UNEXPECTED TURNS=roads=
And CHANGES in my life


I SEE that during
The most DIFFICULT CHALLENGES
Of life=is when
I GREW the most


It is when I BECAME
A better person=
ALL IS GOOD!

I CRINGE when I think how
Arrogant I was=I realize NOW=

GROWING IN GOD

Sometimes it is HARD
To continue to TRUST God
In the midst
Of unforeseen events


When we get an unexpected illness=

Is good to REMEMBER
Our ENTIRE faith journey


It is good to remember
How we GREW in God BEFORE
And how God
Will CONTINUE to help us


Whether things are good
Or bad
We will continue
Tot GROW IN GOD


And God will continue
To SUSTAIN US


“From him
The whole body
JOINED and HELD together


By every supporting ligament


GROWS=and builds itself up
In LOVE


As each part
DOES its work” Ephesians 4:16


“They have lost connection
With the head
From WHOM the whole body


HELD together as
