IN TODAY’S GOSPEL=we have some INTERESTING BYPLAY=Between 2 sisters=Martha and Mary=

ABOUT a dinner=Going on in their House=WHERE Jesus is=THE GUEST OF HONOR!=Martha

Is complaining to Jesus=That she IS=Doing all the work=ALL the preparations=While Mary is=

TAKING in EVERY WORD=That is coming out=OF JESUS’ mouth=What we all=SHOULD BE

DOING!==But Jesus is NOT BUYING=Matha’s Complaint!

“Martha-Martha’=The Lord answered=’You are WORRIED=and upset=About many things=But

Few things are Needed=--------Or indeed ONLY ONE=Mary has chosen THE BETTER PART=and it

Will NOT be=Taken away from her’”                                                                                                         Luke 10:41-42

 

My Brothers and Sisters=What has YOU ANXIOUS?=What has you WORRIED?=Are you CHOOSING

The BETTER PART=Of life?=THE WORDS of Jesus=and the Holy FATHER GOD!=For your life=

Choosing The Better part of life=THE ONE THING THAT MATTERS!=The Teachings and WORDS=Of

THE GOD OF LOVE!

My friends=We cannot REMOVE negative attitudes=Self-absorbed Thoughts=In our life=But we can FOCUS On the One thing that MATTERS=We can KEEP the WORDS of OUR LORD=In our HEARTS=and NOT

On the peripheral JUNK=The world throws at us=Choosing the Better Part=I mean THE BEST PART=

Of life=OUR BLESSINGS=Life itself and OUR FAMILY and FRIENDS

“I will make them=and the Places=surrounding my hill=A BLESSING=I will send down showers=In Season=There will be showers OF BLESSINGS”                                                                                Ezekiel 34:26

“BLESSINGS crown the head=Of the Righteous=But violence overwhelms= the mouth

Of the wicked”                                                                                                                                                    Proverbs 10:6

 

My sisters and brothers=DO Keep on=CHOOSING THE BETTER PART=for your life=Like Mary=And

Not be AS CONCERNED=About the things on=YOUR to do list=Doing things are IMPORTANT=That

Is for sure=But JESUS=Told us himself=What the BETTER PART IS=The WORDS of the Father and the SON=are THE ONE THING=That matters!=What comes OUT=Of the mouth of THE LORD!

“FIX these words of mine=In your hearts and minds=Tie them as symbols on=Your hands=and

Bind them on your foreheads”                                                                                                     Deuteronomy 11:18        

“How sweet=ARE YOUR WORDS=to my taste=Sweeter than honey=To my mouth”     Psalm 119:103

“Heaven and earth=will pass away=BUT MY WORDS=Will never pass away”               Matthew 24:35

Choosing the Better Part=THE ONE THING THAT MATTERS=for our LIFE=Just like Mary did=

The WORDS of Jesus and=THE HOLY FATHER GOD!

 

Mary’s sister Martha=KNEW that Jesus Loved her=She knows=He CARES for her Well-Being=as

HE CARES=for each and EVERYONE of us=She is/and We should BE CONFIDENT of JESUS’ LOVE=

For us=But do we Love Jesus=REALLY LOVE Jesus=Like we should?==ARE we TAKING HIS WORDS=

Into our hearts?==The very WORDS=That He left us with!

“For the mouth speaks=WHAT THE HEART=is Full of”                                                               Luke 6:45

 

My dear Brothers and SISTERS=CHOOSE the ONE THING THAT MATTERS!=for your life=In

This world=And it IS=THE WORDS and Teachings of Jesus Christ and HIS FATHER=Choose that=

And it will MAKE=all the Difference=for and IN YOUR LIFE!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=Of our EVER LIVING=Ever Loving=Ever teaching Holy

GOD AND MONEY

 

 

Recently

I have been exposed

To some selfish experiences

In regard to

People and their money

 

One such experience

Involved a man I met at church

This man road me home from church

A few times

 

Each time

He said he didn’t have any gas

So each time-I gave him $5

 

After knowing this man

For a little over a month

I received a call

Asking me if I could borrow $60

He said they were going

To shut off his phone

And his livelihood

Depended on him having a phone

 

I had my reservations

But I thought about our Lord

And asked myself

What he would do

 

I told him to drive down

And I wrote him a check for $60

He did –and I did

 

When he picked up the money

He explained to me

That he was a  man of his word

And would pay me back on Tuesday

 

When Tuesday came

He called me

And asked me for my bank account numbers

So he could put the money

In my account

 

Of course

I did not give him my account numbers

I gave him my address instead

And told him to mail me the money

 

Of course

I never heard from him again

I think about him and pray for him

I am not bitter

I know

I only did

What our Lord would want me to do

 

 

Then there was the story

Of a young man

Who broke into Saint John’s Catholic Church

And used a crucifix to jimmy the lock

And steal the money

From the cash box

 

What is sad

Is that the church

Said that they would have helped him

Had he just asked

I believe they would have

I believe most churches would

 

Where is this world

Heading with its greed

I asked myself

What did Jesus teach about money

 

We all know his teaching on tithing

( GIVING 10% to the church )

But what else

Did Jesus teach about money

 

In Luke’s gospel-Luke 12-13

Jesus talks about a rich fool

He talks about a rich man

Who produced a great crop

But had nowhere to store his crops

He talks about how this rich man says to himself,

“This is what I will do

I will tear down my barn

And build bigger ones

And there I will store my grain and food

And I’ll say to myself

“You have plenty of good things

Laid up for many years

Take life easy

Eat-drink-and be merry”

 

Jesus says

This man is a fool

Because that very night

God will demand his life back

And he will die

 

Jesus goes on to say

This is how it will be with anyone

Who stores up things for himself

But is not rich toward God

 

And in Luke 16

Jesus tells the story

Of a rich man and Lazarus-a beggar

At the rich man’s gate

Lazarus laid and begged for food every day

The rich man

Never shared anything with Lazarus

 

Eventually-the beggar died

And the angels came

And took him to Abraham’s side

But the rich man died too

And was taken to hell

Where he was in torment

 

The rich man

Pleaded with Abraham

To have pity on him

And let Lazarus dip the tip

Of his finger in water

And cool the rich man’s tongue

 

Abraham replied

That in LIFE= he the rich man’s previous life

He had everything

And Lazarus had nothing

So Abraham said no

 

And in Luke 21

Jesus talks about the poor widow’s offering

Of two small copper coins

Being greater

Than what all the rich people were giving

At the temple

 

Jesus said,

 

“The poor widow

Has put in more than all the others

All these people

Gave their gifts out of their wealth

But she out of her poverty

Put in all she had to live on”

 

And in Matthew 19:24-Jesus said,

 

“I tell you the truth

It is hard for a rich man

To enter the kingdom of heaven

Again I tell you

It is easier for a camel

To pass through the eye of a needle

Than for a rich man

To enter the kingdom of heaven”

 

A few months ago I lost my mother

She had nothing of material value

Of this world

 

But at the end of her life

She was surrounded

By people who loved her

 

She told me once

That 40 people had lived

In our home for 30 days or more

I am here to tell you

That that was true

But my mother and my father

Gave everything they had

FOR OTHERS

They were rich in love

 

I heard a Protestant minister say once

 

“I have been with many people

As they were dying

Not one ever said,

“I wish I would have made another $million

They all inevitably say,

I wish I would have loved my spouse more

I wish I would have spent more time

with my spouse, my children, etc….

 

I made a deathbed promise many years ago

“To live for my family, my friends,

And for all people everywhere”

 

I have nothing of material value

In this world

But like my mother and my father

I have done my best

To share what I do have

 

My point is this:  LET LOVE AND COMPASSION

                             Be your motivating force---NOT money

Ps    Today is the feast of OUR LADY OF GOOD REMEDY

 

        800 years ago

        Christians were being captured  by Muslims

        And sold into slavery

 

        Saint John Matha founded the Trinitarians

 

        He needed large amounts of money

        To free the slaves

        He prayed to MARY-the BLESSED MOTHER

        For money for this cause

 

        His prayers were answered

        So be honored Mary by giving her the title

 

        OF OUR LADY OF GOOD REMEDY-today October 8^th-is the feast day

 

 

 

 

 

JOURNAL=PUTTING ON=THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD!

“OUR SOUL WAITS for the Lord-who is OUR HELP AND OUR SHIELD”   Psalm  33:20

IN Saint Patrick's times-often what was used for physical protection was a breastplate-in today's times it is the bullet-proof vest

BUT-in whatever times we LIVE IN-our BEST PROTECTION remains the WORD OF GOD-that is a

divine shield-DIVINE PROTECTION

Saint Patrick BELIEVED the PRESENCE of Jesus to be our safeguarding SHIELD-in fact he wrote a PRAYER:

“CHRIST before me-behind me-above me-below me-around me-and WITHIN ME”

WELL whatever prayer we say-OUR BEST PROTECTION is GOD and Jesus and the WORD OF GOD

DEAR LORD-it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in your LOVE for us and a great day for your PROTECTION OF US

PUTTING ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD

It is

A TOUGH WORLD

That we live in

A world full of danger

It seems

Like someone or something

Is constantly shooting daggers at us

In the old days

The knight

Would put on

The metal or steel armor

To PROTECT HIM

And in today's world

I believe the policemen

STILL put on bullet-proof vests

But for us Christians

To protect us from evil

In this cruel cruel world

We are called to put on

A DIFFERENT KIND of armor

THE ARMOR OF GOD

“Put on

The full armor of God

So that 

You can take your stand

Against the devil's schemes”                                                       Ephesians 6:10

There you have it

The armor that we need

IS ARMOR

That can stand up

NOT only against flesh and blood evil

But the dark forces of evil

In our world-Satan

“For our struggle

Is not against

Flesh and blood

But against the rulers

Against the authorities

Against the powers

Of this dark world-Satan

And against the spiritual forces

Of evil

In the heavenly realms

Therefore

PUT ON the full armor of God

So that

When the day of evil comes

You may be able

To STAND your ground”                                                    Ephesians 6:12-13

You say fine

But WHAT is it

That can

Withstand ALL of these things

The armor IS LOVE

My friend

THE LOVE OF GOD

And THE LOVE OF NEIGHBOR

For as 1 Corinthians 13:8 tells us

LOVE NEVER FAILS

And James 1:17 says:

EVERY GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT

Is from ABOVE

And that is what Jesus' life was

IT WAS PERFECT

As He DEFEATED every injustice imaginable

INCLUDING humiliation and death

So our job

Is to UNITE our life

With Jesus=as much as possible

And HOLD ON

For the ride of our life

JESUS left behind HIS OWN spirit for us

And in Galatians 5:22

Paul tells us

WHAT the fruit

Of the spirit is:

“But the fruit of the spirit

IS love, joy, peace, patience, kindness

Goodness, faithfulness,gentleness,and self-control                                       

AGAINST such things-there is NO LAW”                                            Galatians 5:22-23

I suggest to you 

That LIVING with these qualities is

PUTTING ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD

And if you WEAR these

You have NO NEED

Of steel armor

Or bullet-proof vests

If you put these on

You are putting on

THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD

And if you do this

Evil will not defeat you

And if it does

You will be vindicated

AS SURELY AS JESUS HIMSELF WAS

MY ANGEL---MY SISTER---MY FRIEND

 

How do you define

The word angel

 

I define it

As heavenly beings

Created by God

To assist people

But appearing in human form

 

My sister Terri

Has been an angel

To me

For a number of years

 

Terri was named

After Saint Theresa---the Little Flower

The Saint of the ordinary

 

And Saint Jude  ( her middle name is Judith  )

The patron Saint of hopeless cases

 

How fitting

 

She assisted my Mom and Dad

And me financially

When my Father

Was maimed by a surgeon

And couldn’t work anymore

 

Saint of the ordinary

My angel---our angel

My sister---my friend

 

After my Father died

Because of my health problems

And my Mom’s advancing years

She brought us to Florida

Found us a place to live

And continued

To help us financially

 

Our angel

My angel---my sister---my friend

 

What a grateful blessing

To me

To get to know

My sister Terri---as an adult

All over again

 

My Mom, Terri, and I

Had so many happy family times

Down here in Florida

 

I feel

So greatly blessed

 

My sister---my angel---my friend

 

When my Mom

Had her emergency surgery in 2007

And pulled through

My Mom said,

 

“I would have given up

But every time I looked up

You two were standing there

I had to go on”

 

So grateful

For the last 2&1/2 years

The 3 of us had together

As my Mom passed on

 

My angel---our angel

My sister---my friend

 

I never had a computer

Couldn’t afford one

 

Terri gave me her computer

In 2005---and thereafter

 

If one word

That I have ever written

Has touched you

You can thank my sister Terri

 

After my Mom died

She increased the amount of money

She was giving us/me

So that I didn’t have to move

 

Saint Theresa---patron Saint of the ordinary

Saint Jude---patron Saint of hopeless cases

 

Theresa Judith---

My angel---my sister---my friend

 

I always told her

That she was going to be the first Jewish Saint

 

Now that she is Christian/Catholic again

On her birthday which was October 7^th

I told her she was promoted

From a Saint to and angel

 

At any rate---today---the feast of ALL Saints today

Please join me in saluting her

And ALL the Saints that touch each

And every one of our lives on a daily basis

 

This one is for you

MY SISTER TERRI

 

 

She has had many hard times

At times

The troubles have been overwhelming

But she’s

Kept a positive attitude

All day through

 

She’s tough as nails on the outside

But on the inside

She has a kind generous heart

She doesn’t always want you

To see it

That is just her way

 

She’s always been there for me

She’s been honest

She’s been loyal

She’s been true family

What else can she be

She is my sister Terri

 

She likes to go out

She likes to have fun

She has been known to

Have a glass of wine or two

She is- my sister Terri

 

She’s tough on the outside

But with a kind loving heart

Deep within

She is kind and generous

She always wants you

To have the very best

She is-my sister Terri

 

And she is the best

What else could she be

She is-MY SISTER TERRI

I don’t care=WHO YOU ARE=Or what Christian denomination=You belong to=WE all

Have the  SAME OBLIGATION=To BUILD a CHURCH=Based on THE GOSPEL OF LOVE=Jesus was

ONE MAN=and he CAME=to BUILD ONE CHURCH!=of love=BUILDING THE BRIDGES of=

OUR LIFE!=ON the Gospel of LOVE!

“And I tell you=That you are PETER=and on this Rock=I will BUILD MY CHURCH=and the gates=

Of Hades=Will not overcome it”                                                                                                              Matthew 16:18

“BE Shepherds of=The CHURCH of God=Which he bought=With his own blood”       Acts 20:28

“So it is with you=Since you are eager=For the gifts=Of the Spirit=Try to EXCEL=In those that=

BUILD UP THE CHURCH”                                                                                                                 1 Corinthians 14:12

 

I don’t care=Who you are=OR what religion you are=Catholic=Protestant=Baptist=Unitarian=Or

Whatever=Our Christian obligation is=TO BUILD BRIDGES=Between the churches and=To get Back=ONE RELIGION=Based on=THE GOD OF LOVE=The Father and The SON!=ONE FAITH!=

BUILDING THE BRIDGES of our life!=Or whose GOSPEL are you Following?=Whose GOSPEL are=

You following?=Is it the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ and the Father=THE GOSPEL=Of love=WRITTEN on=YOUR HEART?=The gospels Of Jesus=as TOLD to Matthew=Mark=Luke=and John=and the very

Elegant Saint Paul=the great CHRISTIAN EVENGELIST!=The separations IN THE CHURCHES today-

Are Disturbing=and they are Man-made=NOT from the God-Man Jesus Christ and the Father=We

Have to get back=TO THE LOVE OF GOD=among all of us=The LOVE OF UNITY=within us=Because

THE GOSPEL OF LOVE=BUILDS BRIDGES between ALL OF US!

 

“How good and pleasant it is=When GOD’S PEOPLE=Live together=IN UNITY!”                  Psalm 133:1

“So CHRIST himself=Gave the apostles=the prophets=THE EVANGELISTS=The pastors and Teachers=To equip his people for=Works of service=So that the Body of Christ=May be built

Up=UNTIL=we all REACH UNITY=In the faith and the Knowledge=Of the Son of God=and become

Mature=Attaining to the whole measure=Of the FULLNESS OF CHRIST”                   Ephesians 4:11-13

“And over all these virtues=PUT ON LOVE=Which binds them all together=

IN PERFECT UNITY”                                                                                                                                     Colossians 3:14

PUT ON LOVE=Put on Jesus’ LOVE=For every single person=In this world=BUILDING THE BRIDGES

OF OUR LIFE!=Put on Love=Think Jesus!=Think LOVE!

 

And so my Sisters and My Brothers=We could start with=Building UNITY BY

A.       LOVING THE Holy Father God and Jesus=Above all other things!

B.      LOVING OUR NEIGHBOR as Ourself=All People=Not just the ONES WE CHOOSE!

C.     Living Forgiveness 70X7=all year Round and  by

D.     Putting THE BEATITUDES INTO PRACTICE!=In our Lives

BUILDING THE BRIDGES OF OUR LIVES!=Through Love=and the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ=and the

HOLY FATHER GOD!

 

So WHAT GOSPEL/Whose Gospel are you FOLLOWING?=I HOPE it is the=GOSPEL of Jesus Christ=

And the Holy Father God!

“For I am NOT ASHAMED of the GOSPEL=Because it is=THE POWER OF GOD=That brings Salvation=to everyone who Believes=First to the Jew=Then to the Gentile”

Dear Lord=GOD OF LOVE=The Father and The Son=I promise/WE PROMISE=To try and BRING

UNITY=to this world=and to ALL PEOPLE!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=Of our EVER LOVING=EVER LIVING=Ever UNIFYING
