The world

That he gave us

His one and only Son

 

How much love

Do you have

For God

For your neighbor

 

Can you imagine

How much love

Giving up your child

For someone else

 

How God’s heart

Must have broke

As Jesus was rejected

And hung dying on the cross

 

God so loved

The world

That he gave us

His only begotten Son

 

How much love

Do you have

Accept God---Accept Christ

THE KINGDOM OF GOD=WILL TRIUMPH

There is GOOD NEWS=and there is Some bad news==About the WORD OF

God=The bad NEWS=is that the Word of God=will NOT PENETRATE=many of us=

And they will=NOT BEAR FRUIT=This will HAPPEN because of people=

CHOOSING THE WORLD=OVER the Word of God=Or because of=LACK OF FAITH

 

But the GOOD NEWS is that=When the WORD OF GOD=falls on  the GOOD SOIL=

Like you and me=It will PRODUCE FRUIT=In an overflowing abundance=and the Gospel of

Mark tells us such=”Others=Like seed sown on GOOD SOIL=Hear the word=Accept it=

And PRODUCE a crop=--------some 30=some sixty=some a Hundred times=What was

Sown”                                                                                                                                                                       Mark 4:20

I have to admit that=SOMETIMES it is very discouraging=To WITNESS=What I see=

As a LACK OF FAITH=When the WORD of God=In not growing=Or being choked off=GOD’S

WORD is MEANT to bear fruit=God’s word is MEANT to be SPREAD=Throughout all

Of us

 

But in people=LIKE you and me=These wonderous WORDS of God=will CONTINUE to GROW=

And spread in this world=And we will see=THE TRIUMPH of GOD’S KINGDOM=Once again=

We will see good triumph=and We will SEE GOD’S WORD succumb evil=”And having disarmed=

The powers and authorities=He made a public spectacle =Over them=TRIUMPHING Over them=

By the cross”                                                                                                                                                  Colossians 2:15

“I press on=Toward the goal=TO WIN the prize=For which God has called me heavenward=

In Christ Jesus”                                                                                                                                Philippians 3:14

“……..So that your daily life=May WIN the respect of outsiders=and so that you will not=

Be dependent on anybody”                                                                                                 1 Thessalonians 4:12

 

Yes=GOD’S KINGDOM will be FLOURISHING once again=in this world=Just like When

Jesus was ALIVE=Because of the Good Soil=Not only surviving=But THRIVING ONCE AGAIN=

The WORD OF GOD never dies=”But I am=Like an olive tree=FLOURISHING in the=House of

God=I TRUST in God’s Unfailing love=For ever and ever”                                               Psalm 52:8

The parable of=THE SOWER=and of the GOOD SOIL=and the bad soil=Teaches  us=about

THE ABUNDANCE of=GOD’S HOPE=Love and faith=ALIVE in this world=The good soil=

The GOOD SEED=is a LOVE that never dies=For God’s Word is FOREVER ALIVE

THE KINGDOM OF GOD=WILL TRIUMPH AGAIN=because of you and me!

 

“How sweet=are YOUR WORDS=to my taste=Sweeter than honey=to my lips”        Psalm 119:103

“In the beginning=was the WORD=and the Word=was with God=and the WORD WAS

My dear SISTERS and BROTHERS=If you are BELIEVERS in God’s words and Jesus’ words=

You are THE GOOD SOIL=and you will PRODUCE=an ABUNDANCE OF GOOD=so that

THE KINGDOM OF GOD=will continue to TRIUMPH=and that EVERLASTING LIGHT of

God=Will overshadow the darkness

 

You are THE GOOD SOIL=Brothers and sisters=and the KINGDOM OF GOD=will TRIUMPH=

And Never die

Saint John Bosco---a Saint for the children

 

 

 

 

 

Today when

The sexual abuse of young children

Is so prevalent

It is heartening

To look at the past

To the lives

Of some of the Saints

 

John---actually called Don Bosco

Was born in 1815

His father died

When he was 2 years old

 

His mother brought him up

In extreme poverty

He was so poor

That when he entered the seminary

In 1831

His clothes and shoes

Had to be donated

 

He was ordained in 1841

And soon thereafter

He began his life’s work

Which was the education

Of young apostolate boys---and young men

Particularly in working class families

 

He also worked in the slums---in prisons

And was appointed a chaplain

At a refuge for young girls

 

After leaving as chaplain for the girls

He lived in poverty with his mother

And 40 destitute young boys

 

Don Bosco had a charismatic personality

Had great oratory skills

Was an eloquent preacher

And popular writer

 

“Don” was also a visionary

A wonder worker

And had an extraordinary gift

For handling difficult children

 

Usually without punishing them

But with gentleness and a firm hand

 

A typical day for Don

Was to take the boys to Mass

Followed by a picnic in the country---games---

And a catechism class

 

Don Bosco

Founded the Salesian order

And also The Daughters of our Lady Help of Christians for girls 

 

It is important to remember

That at a time

When the Catholic church is taking so much criticism

About the handling of the abuse scandal

And rightfully so

 

Important to remember

All the good the Catholic Church has done

In the building up of faith

For BOTH adults and children

Through men like Saint John Bosco

Down through the years

CHARACTER-INTEGRITY-OUR GOOD NAME

 

 

One of the most important things

We were born with

Is our CHARACTER

Our INTEGRITY

In choosing right and wrong

And OUR GOOD NAME

 

We can ruin our lives

By being dishonest

By making wrong choices

And by

NOT respecting others

 

And OUR GOD

DOES AGREE

 

“The man of integrity

Walks securely

But he who takes crooked paths

Will be found out”                                                            Proverbs 10:9

 

“The INTEGRITY of the upright

Guides them

But the unfaithful are destroyed

By their duplicity”                                                             Proverbs 11:3

 

Our CHARACTER is what guides us

What guides our decisions

What LEADS us to God

And what produces HOPE in us

And for us

 

“And we rejoice

In the HOPE of the Glory of God

 

Not only so

But we rejoice in our suffering

Because we know

That suffering produces perseverance

Perseverance-CHARACTER

And CHARACTER-HOPE

 

And hope does not disappoint us

Because our God has poured out

His love into our hearts

By the Holy Spirit

Whom he has given us”                                                          Romans 5:4-5

 

And so

When we have been stripped

Of everything

But our character and our integrity

We should still 

Have our FAITH-HOPE-and LOVE

 

And our character and integrity

And our reputation-OUR GOOD NAME

Is influenced

By who

We surround ourselves with

 

“Do not be misled

Bad company corrupts our good character”                                    Romans 15:33

 

And the LOVE of a good woman

Or a good man is important

 

“A wife of noble character 

Who can find

She is worth

Far more than rubles”                                                                 Proverbs 31:10

 

Finally-if it is true

We are the SUM

Of all the choices that we make

EACH CHOICE

Should be bringing us closer

To God and Christ

And in the end

 

That is who we are

THE SUM of ALL our choices

 

Which is our reputation

 

“He must

Also have a good reputation

With outsiders

 

So that he will not fall

Into disgrace

And into the devil’s trap”                                                           1 Timothy 3:7

 

But even

If we have made some mistakes    

Along the way

And ALL of us have

 

OUR GOD is THE GOD

Of infinite chances

And tomorrow is another day

TO BEGIN building character            

To begin building HOPE

And to begin

BUILDING A NEW REPUTATION

THE CONVERSION OF SAINT PAUL

 

We are just a FEW DAYS=From the GREATEST CONVERSION=of all TIME=The

Conversion of Saint Paul=Saul(Paul) was converted from=The greatest Christian

Killer of all time=In fact=HE ORDERED or stood by=For the killing of the=

First Christian martyr=Saint Stephen=and yet he was=TO GO ON=and be the=

GREATEST EVANGELIST of the New Testament=This side of Jesus Christ

 

Jesus REVEALED himself to Saul=On the way to Damascus=and said=”I have

Appeared to you=for this reason=To appoint you=AS MY SERVANT=and as WITNESS

Of the vision=In which you have seen me=and of others=In which I shall appear=

To you”=from  a PRIVATE REVELATION =Of Jesus to Saint Paul

From these PRIVATE realizations of Saint Paul=He came to the CONCLUSION  that=

Jesus was ALIVE==and that everything MEANINGFUL=In heaven and earth=Was

Summed up IN JESUS CHRIST!

“ALL I want=Is to Know Christ and the POWER=of his resurrection=and to SHARE

His sufferings=by reproducing the pattern of his death”                                                           Philippians 3:10

And Paul went on to BECOME the apostle=and the evangelist=To the Gentiles!

 

“You must have heard……..HOW MERCILESS I was=In persecuting the Church of

GOD……..Then God……..CALLED me through his grace=and CHOSE to Reveal his SON=

In me=so that I MIGHT PREACH=The GOOD NEWS=about him to the pagans”=Yes Paul

WENT from a killer of Christians to=become the GREATEST CHRISTIAN EVANGELIST=that

Ever lived=NEXT TO JESUS!

 

And is that not=THE MISSION for us all=To PREACH the GOOD NEWS of God and his Son?=

“How beautiful on the mountains==Are the feet of those=Who BRING GOOD NEWS”    Isaiah 52:7

“After John was=Put in prison=Jesus went into Galilee=Proclaiming the GOOD NEWS

Of God’=’The TIME has come’=He said=’The kingdom of God has come near=Repent and

Believe the GOOD NEWS’”                                                                                                                             Mark 1:14-15

“The apostles left the Sanhedrin=Rejoicing because they had=Been counted worthy of =

Suffering disgrace for the name==Day after day=In the temple courts=and from house to

House=They never stopped teaching and proclaiming=THE GOOD NEWS=That Jesus is=

THE MESSIAH”                                                                                                                                             Acts 5:41-42

 

And so this week=the week OF CHRISTIAN UNITY=Let us all PROCLAIM  and Share the=

GOOD NEWS=Like Jesus did=Like Saint Paul and the apostles did=so that we can BE=ONE

UNIFIED Word of God=Under Jesus Christ=and THE HOLY FATHER GOD!

 

You just NEVER KNOW=who MIGHT BE CONVERTED=who might become a BELIEVER=If

It could happen for SAINT PAUL=It could HAPPEN FOR ANYONE=and everyone!

Should read=Are the books of Psalms and PROVERBS=They have many TRUTHS

Have good understanding=To him belongs ETERNAL PRAISE”                                               Psalm 111:10

“She speaks WITH WISDOM==and faithful  instruction=Is on her tongue”                 Proverbs 31:26

SOLOMON is wisely Considered to be=The SMARTEST MAN=of the Old

Testament and the WISEST King=He is also=the Son of David=and he is THE Principal

AUTHOR of=the book of PROVERBS=TRUE WISDOM =is FOUND only IN GOD!-Just listen

To what the book of KINGS=says about Solomon=”God gave SOLOMON WISDOM=and

Very great insight=and a breadth=of understanding as measureless=as the SAND on

The seashore=Solomon’s WISDOM was greater than=the Wisdom of all=The people of=

The  East=and greater than=ALL THE WISDOM of Egypt=He was WISER than anyone else

INCLUDING……..”                                                                                                                                            I Kings 4:29-30

And in Proverbs=he tells us=TRUE WISDOM=Can only BE FOUND=In our God=All other

Wisdom will PALE=in comparison to GOD’S WISDOM=and we should NOT=RELY on

Our own understanding=But in the TRUTH=that only God can provide=Finally he tells us=

That SUCCESS IN LIFE==Comes from obedience to=THE WORD OF GOD=and following=

The WAYS of God!

 

And of course=We all KNOW that Jesus Christ=was the SMARTEST MAN=person-Whoever

Lived=An that he spoke to us=and TAUGHT US through parables=He spoke to us=with the

WORD OF GOD=for he was=THE WORD INCARNATE HIMSELF!=TRUE WISDOM=Can be

FOUND=Only in God!=”But God made the earth=by his power=He FOUNDED the world=by

HIS WISDOM=And stretched out the heavens=by his understanding”                               Jeremiah  10:12

 

“For John came NEITHER=eating or drinking=and they say’=’He has a demon’=The SON OF MAN

Disciples of Paul

And both were bishops

 

Timothy was born in Lystra

The son of a Gentile father

And a Jewish mother

 

He studied Scriptures

As a young man

And was circumcised by Paul

To make him acceptable

To the Jewish Christians  (Acts 16:3 )

 

From then on

He became the companion of

And sometimes

The representative of Paul

For example-to the Thessalonians-Corinthians

And Ephesians

 

The tradition

According to Eusebius

Claimed him

As the first bishop

Of Ephesus

 

Paul’s letters to Timothy

Directs him to correct innovators

And teachers of false doctrine

And to appoint bishops and deacons

 

The acts of Timothy

Relate his martyrdom

And that he was killed

By stones and clubs

At a pagan festival

 

In addition

To being a disciple of Paul

Timothy was his companion

And his secretary

 

Titus was a Gentile by birth

And therefore was no circumcision

When he became a Christian

 

He took part

In the council of Jerusalem

Was sent to Corinth

On a difficult mission

And was left by Paul

In Crete

To organize the church

 

He is believed

Where he is venerated

The prophets=Then it was=JESUS and his apostles=and FINALLY over the years=ALL

The Saints=BOTH canonized and uncanonized=Is it NOT TIME=for us ALL=to come

Back to God?=I LONG FOR GOD!=Do you?=Our Lord=Our GOD=Wants us back==He wants=

ALL of his people!=A LONGING FOR GOD!

 

“A LONGING FULFILLED=Is sweet to the soul=But FOOLS detest=Turning from evil”   Proverbs 13:19

“Yet the LORD LONGS=to be gracious to you=Therefore he will Rise up=to show you

Compassion=For the Lord=is a GOD of Justice=Blessed are all=Who wait for him”      Isaiah 30:18

“Meanwhile we groan=LONGING to be clothed=instead=with our heavenly dwelling=

We human beings=LONG for our God=But our God=Longs for us too=and there are

NO other substitutes=for us Human Beings=Other than the LOVE of our God=Who

Do you?=Someday our God=Will be PRESENT on our earth once again=and our REJOICING

Will be FULFILLED!

God of all=In heaven=and when we hear those MAGICAL WORDS=”WELL DONE=My good and

FAITHFUL SERVANT”                                                                                                                                  Matthew 25:21

ALL of us human beings=have that LONGING FOR GOD!=I know I do=I would BET that

You do too=And we will FIND=That we can GO Home again=Just like the PRODIGAL

SON!=A LONGING FULFILLED!

ONE thing we Learn through life=IS that when we choose to FOLLOW God’s=

Plans and  WAYS=God GRACIOUSLY delivers us=In WAYS we could never do=At least

That has been my experience=in my life=We just need to LIVE=with a SERVANT’S HEART

WHEN Elish traveled=to Shumen=In Israel=He came across a woman=with a

SERVANT’S HEART=and she urged Elisha=to STAY and have a meal=and he continued

To do so=When he stopped by

 

So she and her husband=BUILT a room=so that when he stayed=He would have a ROOM+

“She said to her husband’=’I know that this man=Who often comes=OUR WAY=is a holy=

Man of God=Let’s make a small  room=On the roof and Put=in it=a bed-a table-a chair and=

A lamp for him=Then he can STAY THERE=Whenever he comes to us’”                          2 KINGS 4:8

She and her husband=who was very old=had wanted a CHILD=and 12 months  later=

She was WITH CHILD=The PROPHET Elisha BLESSED them with a SON=God’s WAYS

Are not our ways=OPEN YOUR HEART=TO GOD’S TO DO LIST!=You just never

KNOW what can  happen=When you have a SERVANT’S HEART

 

OPEN UP=to God’s to DO LIST!=Open up =to the DIVINE INTERRUPTIONS of our

Holy Father God and his SON=SAY YES=To an OPEN HEART=”In spite of this=You did

NOT TRUST=In the Lord your God=Who went ahead of you=on your journey=In fire by night=

And in a cloud by day=To search out places=To camp and to show you=THE WAY=you should

Go”                                                                                                                                                                 Deuteronomy 1:32

 

So always=BE OPEN=TO GOD’S TO DO LIST=for his WAYS=are NOT our ways==HIS WAYS
ARE BETTER!=God delights in=BLESSING YOU=In unexpected ways=STAY OPEN TO GOD!

THE SAINT OF WRITERS---Saint Francis de Sales

 

 

 

 

 

 

He was born in 1567

In France

 

He was very delicate as a boy

And was educated privately

At least at first

 

Later---

He attended the University of Paris

And studied rhetoric, philosophy, and theology

 

He became a doctor of law

And opportunities

For marriage and a brilliant career abounded

But he chose

To become a Catholic priest

 

He became distinguished

Both for his service to the poor

And his preaching

 

He succeeded

In almost everything that he did

Because of his great love

His great understanding

And his persistent patience and gentleness

 

His most famous writings were called

THE TREATISE OF THE LOVE OF GOD

And

INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVOUT LIFE

 

One of his best friends was

Jane Frances de Chantal

Who founded the Visitation order

 Under his direction

And who later became a Saint herself

 

He was extremely influential as a writer

And in leading souls to self-sacrifice

And to the finding of God’s love

 

He died in 1622

Was canonized as a Saint in 1665

And declared a Doctor of the church in 1877

 

His name is FRANCIS de SALES

A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY

 

 

As children

We all liked fairy tales

Because they had

Happy endings

 

Did you ever

Hear the story

Of a woman

Who stopped at the scene of accident

To help out

Only to find outa

That the injured person was her daughter

 

Or the emergency surgeon

Who was dead tired

But forced himself to stay

To perform one last surgery

The patient

Turned out to be his son

 

Or the story of

A baby born in a stable

The story of a man

Who for 30 years did nothing

Then surrounded himself

With a cast of misfits

To teach the Word of God to

For three years

 

At the end

Of the story

We find out

That this man

Was the Son of God

 

In the XXVth chapter of Saint Matthew’s Gospel

The story is told

Of a King thanking the righteous

For clothing him

For giving him drink

And for giving him food

 

The righteous reply

Lord, when did we do this

And the King replied,

“I tell you the truth

Whatever you did for the least of my brothers

You did for me”

 

Dear Lord

We pray

For the grace

To see you in all others

And to respond with a kind heart

A loving smile

And a listening ear

 

And to

Look for no reward

Except

To continue to live in your love

(WE are ALL=Made in the IMAGE OF CHRIST)!

 

ARE you a Mother=or a Father?=Do you have MORE=Than one child=I

Would BET=a $ to a donut=That you LOVE=all of your children equally!=And

We are=ALL CHILDREN OF GOD!=Our Holy Father God=and his Son Jesus Christ=

Love us all EQUALLY TOO!=He does NOT=Favor one brother=on one sister=OVER

The rest of us!=OUR GOD=DOES NOT SHOW  FAVORITISM!=For we are ALL made=in

THE IMAGE OF CHRIST!=”God does NOT SHOW FVORITISM=But ACCEPTS

AMERICA used to be=A MELTING POT=For people of every nation=WHERE all

The world=Could BRING their GIFTS=to BENEFIT=the ONE TRUE God of LOVE=and

Each other=NO ONE=Is not loved=By the Holdy Father God and HIS SON!=For our

ONE TRUE GOD OF LOVE=does Not play favorites=NOT one person=OVER everybody

Else=For each and EVERY ONE of us=IS MADE=IN THE IMAGE=of His Son!

“……..But glory and HONOR=and peace for everyone=WHO DOES GOOD=First for

The Jew=Then for the Gentile=For God=DOES NOT SHOW FAVORITISM”       Romans 2:10-11

“And masters=Treat your slaves=In the same way=Do not threaten them=Since you know=

That he who is BOTH=Their master and yours=Is in heaven=and there is NO FAVORITISM

Since=Our Heavenly Father God=SHOWS NO FAVORITISM==It is OUR RESPONSIBILITY=that

We do not either=Our God=THE GOD OF LOVE=BREAKS DOWN  barriers between people=He

GIVES US=the Holy Spirit of love=To BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER=God used Peter=to visit

Cornelius a GENTILE=To bring the GOOD NEWS of God=to him=and Peter said=”I now realize=

HOW TRUE=It is that=God DOES NOT SHOW FAVORITISM=But accepts=From EVERY NATION=

The ONE who fears him=and does WHAT IS RIGHT”                                                              Acts 10:34-35

 

OUR Holy Father God=LOVES people=OF EVERY NATION=No partiality!

Our Holy Father God=Loves people=OF EVERY RACE=No exceptions!

Our Holy Father God=and HIS SON=Love people of EVERY RELIGION!=No Favoritism!=So we

SHOULD LOVE=everyone OF US TOO!

 

FOR as FOLLOWERS=of Jesus=We are called to LOVE and to SERVE=All those MADE in=

The IMAGE of Jesus Christ=Which is  EVERYONE!=Our  God=show NO FAVORITISM=shows

NO PARTIALITY!=”For the Lord=Your God=is GOD of gods=and LORD of lords=The great God=

Mighty and awesome=who SHOWS NO PARTIALITY=and accepts no bribes”        Deuteronomy 10:17

“So the spies questioned him’=’Teacher we know that=You do NOT SHOW PARTIALITY=but

Teach the way of God=In accordance with the TRUTH’”                                                        Luke 20:21

 

AS FOLLOWERS=Made in THE IMAGE of Jesus=Part of our MISSION=Is to NOT SHOW

Favoritism to anyone=We are to LOVE all others EQUALLY!=ALL NATIONS!=ALL RACES!=ALL

RELIGIONS!=God does NOT SHOW FAVORITISM=Neither should we!
