Agnes was a girl

Of only about 13

She refused marriage

Because of her dedication

To Christ

 

She preferred death

Rather than any violation

To her consecrated virginity

And she did die

When her throat

Was pierced by a sword

 

There have been

Many sermons and hymns

Built around the story of Agnes

 

One legendary story

Is about a man

Who became blinded

When gazing at her nakedness

When Agnes

Was placed in a brothel

 

Her feast day is January 21^st

And two Roman churches-dedicated to her

Claim relics
