Chapter 6=Judgment and RESTORATION from Idolatry

Lines 1-3

 

Against the MOUNTAINS=Before the Lord=BEGINS

The GEOGRAPHY OF ISRAEL

 

MOUNTAINS=were the CENTER=of IDOL WORSHIP

Places often mentioned in the old Testament include

Mount Sinai

 

God will DESTROY high places

Because the TOPS of the hills and mountains

Were USED for IDOLATRY

 

The HIGH places=were INHERITED from the Canaanites=GOD PROMISES

To use the SWORD=as JUDGMENT=for these High places of IDOLATRY

 

LINES 4-7

THE COMPLETE DESTRUCTION to come

 

God will cast the SLAIN MEN=before their idols

 

God would DESECRATE=these places=SET ASIDE to pagan gods=

With the BONES of UNFAITHFUL Israel

 

The CITIES shall be=LAID WASTE=and the HIGH PLACES

Will be desolate=Babylon will DESTROY both city and country regions

 

THE IDOLS would be BROKEN=and made to cease

 

THE PROMISE was fulfilled=DEVASTATING JUDGMENT did come=and

When Israel=came again to the land=There was NO IDOLATRY

 

LINE 8=THE PROMISE=OF A REMNANT

The REMNANT=was pointed out=by the parable of the CUT hair

Ie.    The hairs hanging from Ezekiel’s skirt

 

Those who escaped=WERE SCATTERED =Throughout other countries

 

The remnant=was THE BASIS=for the LATER RESTORATION=of Israel

 

Lines 9-10

The Spiritual RENEWAL=of the COVENANT

 

Those who ESCAPED Remembered God=and those who were EXILED

(From Israel)=Remembered their COVENANT with God

Ie.   God felt like a HUSBAND=with an UNFAITHFUL WIFE

 

God FELT GRIEF over Israel=Just like that husband

 

The UNFAITHFULNESS=felt worse to God=because of what=

He was FORSAKEN FOR  (Empty=filthy=and disgusting IDOLS)

 

The JEWISH PEOPLE=would hate=LOATHE themselves=for the evil

They Committed 

A    They would REMEMBER the Lord

B    They would be DEEPLY ASHAMED=for their sin

C    This is a necessary step=FOR THEIR RESTORATION

 

They would KNOW=WHY the Lord is angry=They would be RESTORED

To a RESTORATION=and a RELATIONSHIP with God again

 

The punishment=would FULFILL its purpose=and BRING RESTORATION

 

Lines 11-12

God is=REVEALED TO ISRAEL=Through the judgment upon them

 

POUND your fists=and Stamp your feet

Ezekiel wanted the people of Israel=to KNOW that this was

NOT a light thing=

 

But EVIL and abomination to God

 

THE PEOPLE=would FALL by the SWORD=by famine=and by pestilence

Judgment would be COMPLETE=with devastation=

GOD’S FURY would be UPON THEM

 

LINES 13-14

God REVEALS his judgment=Against Israel=FOR THEIR IDOLATRY

 

They will know=Yahweh is Lord=When they are slain=among their IDOLS

 

And it would be DEMONSTRATED to Israel=that God is WORTHY OF REPENTANCE

Then they would=REJECT THEIR IDOLS

 

It would be more DEVASTATING=than the WILDERNESS of Diblah

(Ie.  Riblah=a place in SYRIA)

 

Then they would know that=GOD IS LORD

A CORRECTIVE PURPOSE from God=even among this terrible Judgment

 

God would STILL DO GOOD=for his People=in the midst of desolation

And Devastation

 

THEY would know=their God=IS the God of the world=the God of HISTORY
