She walks with a cane

She is blind in one eye

But she sees things

Most of the world has never seen

She sees beauty

She sees grace

She sees God

In every child’s face

 

She has seen tough times

Most of it very unfair

But through it all

She has always continued to care

About her family

About her friends

About the world

She is –A BEAUTIFUL SOUL

The Great Commission

The job

Are you

Going to accept Christ’s challenge

Help get it done

 

Are you going to do

All that you can

To get the job done                                        

 

Even if it is

Only bringing one person to God

That furthers Jesus’ purpose

And help gets the job done

 

The great commission is upon us

Let us begin to make disciples

We all KNOW=that the KINGDOM of God cannot be POSSESSED=It is given

            July 29^th-is the feast day of Saint Martha

 

            “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way

             He came to a village where a woman named Martha

             Opened her home to him

            

             She had a sister called Mary-who sat at the Lord’s feed

             Listening to what he said

             But Martha was distracted by all the preparations

             That had to be made

 

             She came to him and asked,

             “Lord-don’t you care that my sister has left me

              To do the work by herself

              TELL HER to help me!”

 

              “MARTHA-MARTHA”-the Lord answered

               You are worried and upset about many things

               But only ONE THING is needed

 

               Mary has chosen what is BETTER

               And it will NOT be taken away from her”                            Luke 38-42

Today=We CELEBRATE=The FEAST of  the FAMILY of=Mary=Martha=and

Lazarus=Two sisters and a brother=Of the three of them=Martha takes=

The WORST RAP=For worrying about getting things done=But don’t EVER

Doubt the fact=That Martha had FAITH TOO=Just like her sister and=

Her brother Lazarus=SHE HAD FAITH TOO!=”YES LORD’=Martha replied=’

I BELELIEVE=That you are the Messiah=The Son of God=Who is to COME=

Into the world’”                                                                                                                                  John 11:27

How is that for FAITH?=SHE HAD FAITH TOO!

 

ANXIETY and Worrying about getting things done=are terrible things=But I think=

We ALL=have a little bit of that ANXIETY=and we all NEED=A little  bit MORE FAITH=

In ourselves=and the Father God and His SON=Like Martha did=We should ALL=

Have her FAITH!=”At that time=Many will turn away=FROM THE FAITH=and will

Betray and hate each other”                                                                                                           Matthew 24:10

“HAVE FAITH in God’=Jesus answered”                                                                                    Mark 11:22

“I long to see you=That I may impart to you=Some spiritual gift=To make you strong=-----

That is=That you and I=May be mutually encouraged=BY EACH OTHER’S  FAITH”  Romans 1:11-12

 

That is=WHO Martha=Mary=and Lazarus were=A FAMILY=that encouraged each other=

With their GREAT FAITH=I would LIKE to think=That that  IS=who MY FAMILY is too=A family=

That ENCOURAGES each other=With our MUTUAL FAITH=I LOVE my sisters Terri and Mary=and

I will FOREVER REMEMBER my parents=Who stood by us all=WITH THEIR GREAT FAITH=There

First dates=were to the “FATIMA” NOVENA=and the day=I EXPERIENCED my miracle of LIFE=

Was February 11^th, 1977=The  feast of=OUR LADY OF LOURDES=She=Martha=had great FAITH=

As did her sister Mary=and her brother Lazarus=WE SHOULD TOO!

 

“Accept the one=WHOSE FAITH is weak=Without quarreling over disputable matters”  Romans 14:1

“Be on your guard=Stand firm=IN THE FAITH=Be courageous=Be strong=Do everything

Martha sure TAKES such a bad rap=That I find myself ROOTING for her=She has every BIT=

As much FAITH=as Mary and Lazarus=She Martha=HAD FAITH TOO!

 

She GROWS in faith=which we all=need to do=She is GRIEVING at the LOSS=of her brother=

And yet she still=SHOWS JESUS HER FAITH=SHE HAD FAITH TOO!

“NOW FAITH is confidence=In what we hope for=and assurance about we do

Dear Lord=HOLY FATHER GOD=We pray  to you=FOR FAITH like Martha’s=When

Doubt and worry are closing in on us=For she had=MARTHA had FAITH TOO!=In all

Circumstances of life=MAY WE HAVE THAT SAME FAITH TOO!

When I was younger

One of my goals

In my life

Was to run

And complete the marathon

 

I got hit

With my illness

When I was 22

And have never had

The energy to do it

 

What I found out was

That I am still running a marathon

Just a different kind of marathon

---a spiritual marathon

 

A marathon---in which

We are to find God

Both in others

And in ourselves

 

“But those who hope

In the Lord

Will renew their strength

They will soar on wings like eagles

They will run

And not grow weary

They will walk and not be faint”                                               

 

For those of you

Who actually do run marathons---physically

How great would that be

 

But ALL of us

Are on a spiritual journey through life

 

Age and illness wear us down

Financial struggles leave us breathing hard

Difficult relationships and people

Sometimes leave us feeling empty

 

“They will run

And not grow weary

They will walk and not be faint”

 

Are you serious Lord

How can that be

 

Love God and love others

 

“And as for you, brother,

Never tire of doing what is right”                                                        2 Thessalonians 3:13

 

I believe

If we really and truly do this

Always do---or at least try to do---

OPENED TO YOU=For everyone who asks=RECEIVES=The one who seeks finds=

PEOPLE PRAY=for all kinds of GOOD CAUSES=For healing=For LIFE=For

Conversions of a child=To find a spouse=MY OWN FAVORITE=For when I=

Was a young man=and often times=NOTHING CHANGES=Things go on=Just  THE SAME

As before

 

What do we tell the person=That is PRAYING=for a GOOD CAUSE=But still SUFFERING=

NOT getting anywhere=and LOSING HOPE=They feel that God=DOES NOT CARE about

Them=and that is UNDERSTANDABLE=But GOD DOES CARE=He hears us=EVEN WHEN=

Our prayers go UNANSWERED

“……..What is mankind=That you are mindful of them=Human Beings that you=

CARE FOR THEM?”                                                                                                                                          Psalm 8:4

“But a Samaritan=as he traveled=Came where the man was=and when he saw him=

Holy Father God and his Son=Who always LOVES US=and CARES for us

“Some TRUST in chariots=and some in horses=BUT WE TRUST=In the name of=The LORD

Javan-Tubal=and Meshesh=were among those trading cities

They had=at least 20 trading nations

 

Tyre was small=BUT MIGHTY COMMERCIALLY

The TRADE=of the world=came through Tyre

 

BARTERING

Tyre=TRADED human lives=among the bartering

SLAVERY

 

There was SLAVERY  in Israel too=BUT NOT LIKE THIS

HUMAN BEINGS=were treated like PROPERTY=and were traded

FOR ECONOMIC PROFIT IN TYRE!

 

This was  CONTRARY to GOD’S LAW=and the dignity of

ALL CREATION and humanity=We were CREATED=In God’s IMAGE

TYRE was COLD BLOODED

 

Tyre was an economic POWERHOUSE=that never mentioned God

They ONLY cared for business=NO REGARD=to God=THE CREATOR=and the REDEEMER

 

LINES 25-28

THE SINKING OF=THE ship of TYRE

 

Tyre was filled and glorified=LIKE a seafaring ship

TYRE was happy and successful=and SAILED by expert oarsmen

Into many waters

 

BUT ALL SHIPS ARE VULNERABLE=Even the best=

To the POWER=of the wind and the seas

 

THE EAST WIND BROKE TYRE=All was fine=Until it wasn’t

Material PROSPERITY=did not help TYRE

 

IE.   Psalm 48:7

God and the EAST WIND=Breaks the Tyre ship

 

Tyre would eventually sink=EVEN those who proudly BOASTED

Of glory-wealth and strength=WENT DOWN=with the ship

 

LINES 29-36

THE WORLD MOURNED=over the sinking=Of the ship TYRE!

 

-ALL would stand=At the shore and MOURN=OVER

The destruction of Tyre

Mourning with dust-ashes-Balding=and sackcloth

 

IN the midst of=Prosperity=and commercial success=

TYRE would be BROKEN=and would sink

 

LOSING all its merchandise=and entire company

THE WORLD=would be=ASTONISHED=afraid=and horrified

 

AT THE JUDGMENT OF GOD=Upon Tyre

BROKEN=BUT STILL=PART OF

GOD’S STORY

 

We LIVE=In a BROKEN WORLD=and I dear say=My Sisters and brothers=

EACH and every ONE of us=are BROKEN in some way=But our Holy Father God=

And Jesus=Still love us=Because we are=One of his TREASURES=If we love

Him=and offer him some  part of ourselves=Because we are=STILL PART OF=GOD’S
STORY!

 

“We  hold THIS TREASURE=In earthen vessels=That the surpassing power=May BE

Of God=and NOT from us”                                                                                                                      2 Corinthians 4:7

I love SURPRISES=and I love TREASURES=New treasures and BURIED treasures=

That I never knew I had=That is the WAY=it is with God=for us=We are his  TREASURES=and

Even though =WE ARE BROKEN=We STILL are part of God’s  plan=AND HIS STORY=

He still=CHOOSES US!

 

WHY does  God choose broken people=People who are VULNERABLE=To be God’s=

To be his TREASURE?=Because it is about=THE CONDITION=of our HEARTS=It is about=

HOW MUCH=Faith=and love and loyalty=That we have for him=God does NOT CARE=

About money or fame=WE ARE BROKEN=BUT STILL=PART OF GOD’S STORY=Like Moses=

Like David=Like Mary Magdalene=and the apostles=We are his treasures=and

PART OF HIS STORY!

 

“My sacrifice=O God=is a BROKEN SPIRIT=A BROKEN and contrite heart=You God=will

Not despise”                                                                                                                                                    Psalm 51:17

“Though one may be overpowered=Two can defend themselves=A cord of three  strands=

Is  not quickly BROKEN”                                                                                                                         Ecclesiastes 4:12

“He has sent me=To bind up=THE BROKENHEARTED==To proclaim freedom=for the captives=

And release from darkness=For the prisoners”                                                                             Isaiah  61:1

 

The PARADOXES of Christianity=Come from Jesus=and his parables=HE TURNED

The world UPSIDE down=He was a GOD-man like no other=He tells us=WE ARE STRONG=

When we are WEAK=He tells us the MORE WE GIVE=The more we gain=and that=

OUR FAITH is shown=when we are HUMBLE=He teaches us=The last=SHALL BE FIRST!

 

That is WHY=no matter=HOW BROKEN are=He still CHOOSES US=He still chooses  us=to

BE HIS TREASURE=to be=an INTRICATE PART=OF GOD’S STORY=”He will be the

Sure foundation=For your times=a rich store of salvation=and wisdom and knowledge=The

Fear of the Lord=is the KEY to this TREASURE”                                                                                  Isaiah 33:6

“For WHERE  YOUR TREASURE is=There your heart will be also”                                               Matthew 6:21

“BUT MARY TREASURED UP=all these things=and PONDERED them in her heart”        Luke 2:19

 

When we REVERENCE GOD=when we PUT GOD FIRST=and LOVE him=above all other things=

In life=We become OPEN to being=Part of the=STORY OF GOD=A story=WHERE

OUR BROKENNESS=Where our WEAKNESSES=Belong to the=POWER of God’s love=

To  SHINE though in us=OUR BROKENNESS=Our weaknesses=My brothers and sisters=

TRANSFORM us=into DISCIPLES of Jesus=and the Holy Father God

BROKEN BUT=STILL A PART OF GOD’S STORY=In Jesus’ name
