“How to be the Greatest”
In Chapter 18 of
St. Matthew’s Gospel
Jesus tells us
How to be the greatest
Jesus tells us
Unless you change
And become like little children
You will never enter
The kingdom of heaven
I wonder
What he meant by this
Perhaps he meant
We are to be
Totally dependent on God
The way a child
Is on their parents
Perhaps he meant
We are to
Totally trust God
The way a child
Might do
With his Father and Mother
Perhaps he just meant
We are to
Totally love God
The way we are
To be with our parents
Jesus goes on
To say
Whoever humbles himself like little children
Is the greatest
In the Kingdom of Heaven
And he goes on to say
Whoever welcomes a little child
In my name
Welcomes me
Dear God
May we all love you
Like a little child
And may we always welcome
All children and each other
With love and respect
