GOD AGAINST KING CROCODILE
LINES 1-3
GOD OPPOSES THE PRIDE OF EGYPT=
And her Pharaoh
-The PROPHECY AGAINST EGYPT=
Came to Ezekiel
The 10th year=BEFORE the fall of Jerusalem=ISRAEL
Was HOPING for RESCUE=From Egypt=From the Babylonians
-Egypt had been an ENEMY=for the People of Israel
Ezekiel was to let Egypt know=GOD was against her
-Egypt Lied in the middle of RIVERS=GOD CALLED HER
The GREAT CROCODILE
-Egypt BELIEVED=the great NILE RIVER=BELONGED TO HER
They DID NOT RECOGNIZE GOD=Or honor HIM
LINES 4-5
God promised to
CAPTURE EGYPT and Pharaoh=LIKE A
CROCODILE
God ANNOUNCED=He would STOP=Capture=and displace Egypt
Ie They would be
Like a crocodile=PULLED out of the river=and
PUT ON LAND
-Their prosperity and sustenance=Would be greatly affected
Ie. Cast into an
open field
-Pharaoh and Egypt=would be disgraced
Ie. PROBLEMS with
burial=Ie. Existing tombs today
LINES 6-7
GOD WILL GLORIFY HIMSELF=Through his JUDGMENT of Egypt
-ALL inhabitants of Egypt=Would KNOW=He is LORD
-EGYPT was a TARGET of God=and could never HELP ISRAEL=Against
Babylonia
-Judah was to be=JUDGED BY GOD TOO
LINES 8-12
A SWORD UPON EGYPT
-GOD’S JUDGMENT of Egypt=would come through
THE SWORD OF WARFARE
-The judgment was because of=EGYPT’S PRIDE=and BELIEVED
The Nile river BELONGED TO THEM=Ie. “THE RIVER IS MINE”
God PROMISED GREAT DEVASTATION=Of Egypt=for 40 years
Ie. A DESOLATE
NATION=CITIES WOULD BE LAID WASTE
-EGYPTIAN PEOPLE=would be SCATTERED=among the nations too
LINES 13-16
A PROMISE TO RESTORE EGYPT
-God promised MERCY=and restoration for EGYPT
-Egypt would be=Among the LOWEST OF KINGDOMS=
NEVER reaching previous heights
God=was BRINGING Egypt down=So Israel would
NO LONGER=put their TRUST IN THEM
This would REMIND=BOTH Egypt and Israel=of
Their INIQUITY
LINES 17-18
Nebuchadnezzar=WOULD PLUNDER Egypt
Nebuchadnezzar was angry Because of
HIS LACK OF REWARD from Tyre
27th year=EZEKIEL=would continue his PROPHECY
(1 year later than BEFORE=In this chapter)
-NO REWARD=for Nebuchadnezzar=and his army=from
HIS SIEGE of Tyre
-UNSUCCESFUL ATTEMPT=to capture the island fortress
(MEN WERE BALD)
LINES 19-21
God would GIVE Egypt=as PLUNDER=to Nebuchadnezzar=Because
There was NO REWARD=from the Babylonian army=from Tyre
God gave Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar
Ie.=the wealth=the spoils=and the RICHES OF EGYPT
-Nebuchadnezzar and his army=were=WORKING FOR GOD
And his JUDGMENT
-As Egypt was=BEING PLUNDERED=
God was RESTORING strength to Israel
GOD WOULD REVEAL HIMSELF=To Israel=and the world
WOULD KNOW=He was GOD
The SKEPTICISM=of Ezekiel=Would be REMOVED=and
Ezekiel would be REVEALED=as a TRUE PROPHET
