EZEKIEL 33=THE PROPHET=AS A WATCHMAN
LINES 1-6
THE PRINCIPLE of the
WATCHMAN
-THE WATCHMAN=Gives the WARNING of
GOD’S APPROACHING JUDGMENT
HE(Ezekiel the WATCHMAN)=SEES the SWORD COMING
The WATCHMAN=has a SACRED RESPONSIBILITY=
To warn the people
Ezekiel and Jeremiah WARNED=
But few people LISTENED
=He who TAKES the warning=will SAVE HIS LIFE
If responding properly
IF the watchman=Does NOT blow the trumpet=THE BLOOD
Of the people=IS on
him=Ie. Ezekiel
LINES 7-9
God tells Ezekiel=TO WARN=the people of Israel
Ezekiel=GOT HIS MESSAGES from God=DIRECTLY
Ie=No ORDINARY human being=or means
THE MESSAGES=from Ezekiel and Jeremiah were=
YOU WILL SURELY DIE=If wicked=
This MESSAGE went to
Jerusalem=Judah=and Israel
IF a person=OBEYS THE PROPHETS=The messages
The WATCHMAN has DELIVERED=His soul lives=IF HE DOEN’T
It is on THEM
LINES 10-11
THE FAIRNESS OF GOD’S JUDGMENT=
God’s JUDGMENT is fair=Because he takes=NO SPECIAL PLEASURE
In it
The people QUESTION GOD=about
HIS FAIRNESS OF JUDGMENT
IF the wicked=TURN away from their TRANSGRESSIONS=they
WILL SURELY LIVE=God’s HEART is for people
TO REPENT
God is NOT sadistic or cruel=He does NOT
Like humanity to
suffer
God wants the men and women=TO CHOOSE LIFE
(Deuteronomy 30:19)=Israel did not=have to PERISH=If
They CHOSE GOD’S WAY
LINES 12-16
THE PRINCIPLES OF=THE CHANGED LIFE
THE RIGHTEOUSNESS =of the Righteous man=will
NOT deliver him=From his transgressions
Ezekiel SPOKE to and against FATALISM
Good are good=Bad are bad=NOTHING can be done about it=
THIS IS NOT TRUE!
WICKED can turn to GOOD=and be SPARED
From God’s JUDGMENT
GOOD cannot make their OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS=
ONLY God and his MERCY can
-Good and bad=are BOTH REVERSIBLE
YOUR JUDGMENT=is NOT determined=by your PAST
You can CHANGE
LINES 17-20
THE UNFAIRNESS is IN Israel=NOT GOD
The WAY =of the LORD=IS FAIR=
EZEKIEL=spoke for the FAIRNESS of God=against Israel
THE CHILDREN of Israel=Of the people=LOOKED to
Fate and the PAST=for people’s DESTINY
Ie= the righteous and the WICKED=can both change
GOD’S STANDARD on judgment=was ENTIRELY FAIR
OLD COVENANT=Based on works
New covenant=BASED=and Faith PROVED=by works and deeds
Ie. James 2:14-15
LINE 21
THE MESSENGER FROM Jerusalem
The messenger ARRIVES
-the 12th year after captivity=7th
YEAR
AFTER first prophecies of Ezekiel
LINES 22-24
THE ARROGANT PROCLAMATION=of first
Jewish survivors=REMAINING in Judah
Ezekiel=was made MUTE=Until the MESSENGER ARRIVED=then
God=OPENED HIS MOUTH
The remnant of Jerusalem said=and Judea
The LAND is ours=It was GIVEN TO ABRAHAM
NOT TRUE=Not given to the EXILES=but to
THE NEW ISRAEL and Jerusalem=God promised this
BUT not to the REMNANT
LINES 25-26
GOD’S ANSWER=to the SURVIVING REMNANT
The SURVIVORS=were not obeying men and women
They were violent=and did NOT obey or worship YAHWEH
The RESTORATION=would not come=FROM UNGODLY MEN
Like these=God repeated this TWICE
-God’s PROMISE OF JUDGMENT=on the few survivors
LINES 23-29
The remnant=WOULD NOT ESCAPE
Judgment was just delayed
Ie---The sword=the beast=and PESTILENCE was coming IN TIME
Survival would come to nothing=GOD
Would make the land desolate
Jerusalem=had just FALLEN=MORE
Desolation to come=Because of their IDOLATRY
Then they would KNOW=I AM THE LORD
LINES 30-33
The people WERE PLEASED=to hear Ezekiel=but
They did NOT LISTEN
God WANTED Ezekiel=to KNOW THE MESSAGE=and
Get it out=to the people
Ie. They wanted=the
people to KNOW=HIS WORD
Was from the
LORD
Ezekiel was popular=SUPERFICIALLY=But
The people did not listen to him
People said GOOD THINGS about Ezekiel=but
They LIVED SELFISHLY=for their own gain
They did NOT HONOR God or his Holiness
Ezekiel had a GOOD VOICE and=He played an
INSTRUMENT TOO=but the people did NOT RESPOND
In truth=in faith and IN ACTIONS
Ezekiel was A TRUE PROPHET
(Jerusalem was captured)-and
HIS PROPHECIES continued=to BE FULFILLED
And they would KNOW=he was a TRUE PROPHET=and NOT an
entertainer
