In the Sermon

On the Mount

Our Lord says

“Blessed are the poor in spirit

For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”

But who are

The poor in spirit

I dear say

It is us

All of us

Because

We are chasing

The wrong things

Most of us

Are chasing lives

Built on wealth, fame, status, and fortune

But these things

Will not fill us up

Nature abhors a vacuum

And we

Must fill our lives with something

I suggest

We try to

Fill our lives

With love

Love of God

And

Love of others

Only then

Can our spirit be filled

Only then

Can we

Be no longer poor in spirit

We need to

Let go of yesterday

We need to

Focus on the present

We need to

Let the Lord possess us

God’s gift is today

Today is the most important day

Of our lives

By focusing on love

We might find that

We are no longer poor in spirit

And by focusing on love

We might find that

The Kingdom of God

Is not only in heaven

But right here on this earth.
