KEEP THROWING THAT LINE!

 

I am NOT

Much of a fisherman=

Never liked it much

Not even as a kid=in fact

I hate it!

 

But I do like

FISHING FOR PEOPLE=

I do like=helping them

FIND THEIR GOD POTENTIAL=

So if you are like me

And love=fishing for people

 

KEEP THROWING THAT LINE!

Keep on

Fishing for God=IN OTHERS

 

“Master=we have worked hard

All night

And have caught NOTHING

 

But at your command-

I will lower the nets”                                                                                                        Luke 5:5

 

Peter seems resigned

And discouraged=maybe

That is why

 

He takes FISHING ADVICE

From a PREACHER=he just met

 

I don’t know about you

But I get REAL DISCOURAGED

When things

Are NOT going my way

 

But I have SOME ADVICE

For you

DRAW CLOSER TO God=and

 

KEEP THROWING THAT LINE!

Trust in our God=and Jesus

 

“Come follow me’=Jesus said

‘And I will send you out

To FISH FOR PEOPLE’”                                                                                                                       Mark 1:17

 

“Then Jesus said to Simon=

‘Don’t be afraid=from now on

You will=FISH FOR PEOPLE’”                                                                                                 Luke 5:10

 

KEEP THROWING THAT LINE!

For people=FISH for people

In God and Christ Jesus

Trust in God!

 

No matter

How BLEAK things may look

Our God

CAN TURN=any situation around

 

He can BRING JOY=from pain

HOPE=from despair

And even LIFE=from death

He has=DONE all of that

FOR ME

 

It is easy

To take life for GRANTED

When we=are MAKING catch after catch

 

But we all go through

The dark times

When our nets=are COMING BACK EMPTY

 

KEEP THROWING THAT LINE!

For God and Jesus=you never know

WHEN you will have a CATCH=like Jesus

Trust in God

 

“Therefore since we are surrounded

By such a great cloud

Of witnesses

 

Let us THROW off everything

That hinders=and the sin that

So easily entangles

 

And let us run=WITH PERSEVERANCE

The race marked for us”                                                                                                                 Hebrews 12:1

 

Dear Lord=we pray

That when we are DISCOURAGED like Peter was=

Let us TRUST in you=and

KEEP THROWING THAT LINE!

POPULAR OR NOT?

Our job in this WORLD

IS to be like Jesus=

To be A DISCIPLE

Of Jesus

It doesn't matter

IF we are successful-

It doesn't matter

If we are popular

BE LIKE Jesus=

Make the right decision-

Popular or not!=

LOVE LIKE Jesus

“........but because

You do NOT BELONG

To this world

And I have CHOSEN you

Out of the WORLD-

We tend to think-

IF we are POPULAR

We are successful

NOTHING could be further

From the truth=just because

We get LARGE NUMBERS=it

Doesn't mean we are

On the RIGHT TRACK

WHEN Jesus was crucified=

He was probably-

The LEAST POPULAR PERSON

On this earth

Yet he was LIVING on

The right track=and the

Father PROVED him to be right

Through his RESURRECTION

POPULAR OR NOT?=

But the right track

BE in the world-

But not 

Of the world

“He rules the WORLD

In RIGHTEOUSNESS

And judges the people

With equity”                                                                                                                Psalm 9:8

“I was formed

Long ago

At the very beginning

When the WORLD

Came to be”                                                                                                                  Proverbs 8:23

“For God

So loved the WORLD

That he gave his ONE

Believes in him-

POPULAR OR NOT?=

Believe in God

Believe in Jesus

Do what IS RIGHT 

NONE of us like it=

Or want to be rejected

But we should be WARY

Of doing things

Just to be WELL-LIKED

It takes GUTS to do

What is RIGHT-

It takes gut

To do what=GOD

Calls us to do

DO=WHAT IS RIGHT 

In the first reading today-

In ACTS 16=we read about

PAUL and his companions

TRAVELING the road=the Father

Has called for them

We too=have been

CALLED=”OUT of the world”

To do what is RIGHT  

“So that you may

Be PROVED RIGHT 

When you speak

And PREVAIL when you judge”                                                                           Romans3:4

Live to LIVE LIKE JESUS=

Out of love=forgiveness=

And kindness

DON'T play the numbers game

In this world

To be POPULAR

Let us CHOOSE what God is

Telling us to do=

POPULAR OR NOT?

TIME TO PRAY=AND REFLECT

 

TIME TO PRAY=AND REFLECT

 

The saying goes

There is=

A time for everything=

So that means=there are TIMES

We need to

PRAY AND REFLECT too

 

If for no other reason

Than OUR Jesus did it

TAKE TIME=for what

Really MATTERS IN LIFE

 

“AT SUNSET=al who had people sick

With various diseases-

Brought them to him

 

He laid his hands

On each of them=AND CURED THEM……..

 

At daybreak

Jesus left=and went

To a deserted place”                                                                                                      Luke 4:40, 42

 

“There is a TIME

For everything=and a season

For every activity=Under the heavens”                                                                                  Ecclesiastes 3:1

 

Jesus had had

A very long day=that stretched

INTO a very long night

 

It seemed that

The arrival of the people

HE HAD TO HEAL=was endless

 

When the morning sun rose

JESUS WAS SPENT=a feeling

We all have

From time to time

 

He knew he NEEDED TIME

To restore and be still

 

He knew it was time

TO PRAY AND REFLECT!

 

If Jesus could do it

WE ALL=can do it

We can all

TAKE THE TIME

TO PRAY AND REFLECT!

 

“My servant Job=WILL PRAY

For you

 

And I will accept

HIS PRAYER

And not deal with you

According to your folly”                                                                                                        Job 42:8

 

“Then Jesus

Went with his disciples

To a place called Gethsemane

 

And he said =to them

‘Sit here=while I go over there

AND PRAY’”                                                                                                                                  Matthew 26:36

 

“Therefore confess your sins-

To each other

AND PRAY=for each other

So that=you may be healed

 

THE PRAYER

Of a righteous person

Is powerful and effective”                                                                                                     James 5:16

 

Sometimes=Like Jesus

We have to LEAVE

The crowd behind

 

We have to take some time

AND PRAY AND REFLECT=

NOT only for others=which is great

But for ourselves too

 

May we be=of SERVICE for others

And treat them with COMPASSION

 

And really take some TIME out

AND PRAY AND REFLECT=for others

And ourselves

THE UNIVERSAL VIEW

 

THE UNIVERSAL VIEW

Jesus had a UNIVERSAL VIEW

Or GLOBAL view of life

He loved everyone=EVEN-

His enemies=but he particularly LOVED

Those who were his own-

LIKE we all do

He GAVE his life for ALL=and

For LOVE OF ALL

“I pray not only

For these-

BUT also for those

Who BELIEVE in me

THROUGH their word........”                                                                                        John 17:20

It's ALWAYS interesting-

To SEE Jesus pray=and

HOW he prays

This time=though=

We HEAR the actual words

And he is PRAYING for us

His PASSION for us-is

Just hours away-

But NOTHING detracts

From the UNIVERSAL VIEW

Of his FATHER'S love and life

For us

He is WILLING

To GIVE his life for all=

DESPITE the fact=

That he does not want to

The UNIVERSAL view of life

The UNIVERSAL VIEW of love

Jesus took Peter and James and John-

And he began to feel SORROWFUL

And troubled

He said

d o them:

“My soul is overwhelmed-

With SORROW to the point of death=

Stay here-

And KEEP watch with me”                                                                                      Matthew 26:38

They could not=they all fell

ASLEEP on him

“GOING a little farther-

He fell with his face

To the ground and PRAYED:

'My Father=

IF it is possible

May this cup

Be TAKEN from me

Yet NOT as I will

Jesus had=the UNIVERSAL VIEW

Of his Father

Jesus had The universal view

OF LIFE

The SAME view

WE should have as his disciples

The SAME VIEW we should have=

As to LOVE ALL

Jesus gave HIS LIFE for all

Jesus gave HIS LOVE for all

“My command is this:

LOVE each other

As I have LOVED YOU

GREATER LOVE has no one

Than this

TO LAY DOWN one's life

THE AUTHOR OF LIFE!

 

Jesus is=

THE AUTHOR OF LIFE!

He has DIVINE AUTHORITY

Over this world=and of

THE NEXT WORLD

 

“…….they were astonished

At his teaching=because he spoke

WITH AUTHORITY”                                                                                                         Luke 4:32

 

Jesus just ESCAPED

With his life=from his

HOMETOWN of Nazareth

 

Where the people=were trying

To throw him

OVER a cliff

 

But IN Capernaum

The people=can’t

Get enough of him

 

They LOVE HIS TEACHING

They love his authority=

Even the demons are RUNNING

From him=calling him

“THE HOLY ONE OF GOD”

 

WHY?=because they recognize

He is a DIVINE BEING

They recognize= he is ALONE

With the Holy Father God=at being

THE AUTHOR OF LIFE!

The one-

Who SPEAKS with authority

 

“…….because he taught

As one=WHO HAD AUTHORITY

And not=as their

Teachers of the law”                                                                                                       Matthew 7:29

 

“Let everyone be subject

To the governing authorities

 

For there is NO AUTHORITY

Except that which=God has established”                                                                          Romans 13:1

 

“…….who has gone into heaven

And is at=God’s right hand--------

 

With angels-AUTHORITIES-and powers

Jesus HAS AUTHORITY

Because he is=THE AUTHOR

THE AUTHOR OF LIFE!

 

He doesn’t need any references

NOR footnotes-citations-quotations

Or SOURCES of any kind

 

For he is=THE WORD

THE WORD OF LIFE-

THE AUTHOR OF LIFE!

 

“As for God-

Is flawless

 

He shields us all

Out bodies

What we put into

OUR HEARTS matter=

OUR SPIRIT MATTERS

“The SPIRIT of God

Has made me

The breath 

Of the Almighty

“Do not cast me

From your presence

Or take your HOLY SPIRIT

“I live in a holy

It matters what kind

Of food=we put

With the FRUITS of

But it wasn’t a gift=that OUR GOD

BLESSED me with

 

BUT if I had

MY OWN CHILDREN=

And for my nieces=and CHILDREN

Of family members and friends

 

I PRAY that YOUR CHILDREN

Are of GOOD CHARACTER

And are HAPPY

‘What shall I ask for?’

Herodias was a MANIPULATIVE=

Bitter=and wicked woman=and an

EVEN WORSE MOTHER

 

NOT only did she

Get John the Baptist killed

But she=USED HER OWN DAUGHTER

To get this VICIOUS JOB DONE

 

I wonder-

How many parents today

Would USE their children

AS PAWNS=in a deadly game

 

PRAYING for you=

Praying for YOUR FAMILY

And children=that they are

OF GOOD CHARACTER

 

And praying=

That if I were BLESSED WITH CHILDREN

That they would be

PEOPLE OF GOOD CHARACTER

 

“A wife OF NOBLE CHARACTER

Who can find?=

She is worth more=than rubies”                                                                                                      Proverbs 31:10

 

“Do not be misled=

‘Bad company-

CORRUPTS GOOD CHARACTER’”                                                                                               1 Corinthians 15:33

 

I know it may be

A temptation=TO USE YOUR CHILDREN

For your own glory

 

Maybe you want to

USE your children

To accomplish=your own dream

That was never realized

 

MY HOPE for you

And your family=is that

You receive=and give

THAT SAME UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

That my two sisters and I

RECEIVED from our parents

 

FOR THEIR CHARACTER

AND THEIR HAPPINESS=I pray

For you and your CHILDREN

 

NEVER use your children

To try and ENHANCE

Your own pride and reputation

Like Herodias did

 

“Only be careful-

And watch yourselves

So that you=do not forget

Prayer of Faith

I was given infirmity, that I might know what is great.

 

I asked God for riches, that I might be happy

But I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

 

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

 

I asked God for all things, that I might enjoy life

But I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

 

I got nothing that I asked for, but everything needed

TRUE HUMILITY comes in

Boasting in the Lord

NOT BY OURSELVES!=are we great

 

For when we do something

With phenomenal excellence

 

It is then=that we should consider

The gifts we have received

And the cause=of our greatness

Our gifts=our blessings

Our greatness=IF we

Are fortunate to have any

COMES FROM THE LORD!

 

“For it is by grace

When we humble ourselves

And give credit=TO THE GIVER

GOD MAKES US PERFECT

 

GOD MAKES US PERFECT!

There are many DISHONEST

PEOPLE in this world=

In fact=the parable today

Is about a dishonest steward

SCHOLARS believe the dishonest

Steward committed USURY

Against his neighbors

And REPENTED only when

His master found out

Isn't that the way it is=sometimes

With us too=GETTING CAUGHT

By God=by Jesus

Can motivate us=to really CHANGE OUR WAYS

God can=Jesus does and can

Make us PERFECT

They are the

ONLY perfect ones

“And the master commended

The DISHONEST STEWARD

For acting prudently”                                                                                                Luke 16:8

“He said to them=

'You are the ones

Who justify yourselves

In the eyes

Of others

But GOD KNOWS

Your hearts

What people value highly

Is detestable

In God's sight”                                                                                                            Luke 16:15

Sometimes it takes

Being CAUGHT

In some kind of wrongdoing

For us to

Really change our ways

But God can TOUCH US=

Jesus can touch us

To really CHANGE OUR HEARTS

When we CHANGE

And try to become Like God=

Though we don't

Really ever reach it

God makes us=Jesus makes

Us PERFECT=In heart=and mind

And soul

Though we have to

CONFESS our sins=and wrongdoing

To God first

“As for God

His way is PERFECT

The Lord's way

Is flawless

He shields all

Who take refuge

In him”                                                                                                                           Psalm 18:30

“You will keep

IN PERFECT PEACE

Those whose minds

Are steadfast

Because they trust in you”                                                                                         Isaiah 26:3

When we are sorry=CONTRITION

Often starts out half-hearted

Sometimes our heart is ready=

But our minds are NOT=

Sometimes we become AWARE

Only when we think

About the consequences

But God=in his MERCY-

SMILES on us=

His ways are PERFECT

And he has

HIS WAY with us

“Every good and PERFECT GIFT

Is from above

Coming down from the Father

Of the heavenly lights

Who does not change

Like shifting shadows”                                                                                                 James 1:17

When we ADOPT God's WAYS

We become PERFECT too=

GOD'S WAYS make us perfect

THE HIGHWAY TO NOWHERE

 

August 27^th

 

 

“The Highway to Nowhere”

 

 

I’m on a highway to nowhere

Sometimes don’t even know where I’m coming from

Sometimes I don’t even care

Because I know where I’m at

And that is all I need

To curb my inner fears

 

You got to run your own race

You’re not in competition with anyone

So set you own pace

There’s miles to go before it’s over

So just relax

And along the way have some fun

 

Back on the highway to nowhere

And all the cars go flying by

I’m tempted to try to pick up the pace

But then I let it slide

I’m just trying to stay within myself

I’m not reaching for the sky

 

The highway to nowhere

Where does it begin

Where does it end

How many of us know where we are going

How many of us know where we’ve been

 

I’ve been on the highway to nowhere

Too many times in my life

I’ll be on the highway to nowhere

Probably too many times again

But right now I’m in the pits

Charting a highway to somewhere

So I know where I’m at

And that’s all I need

To curb my inner fears

 

You got to run your own race

You got to set you own pace

You’re not in competition with anyone

You’re only goal should be to get there

And along the way have some fun

 

Standing in the pits and looking out on to the highway to nowhere

All the people flying by

Thinking they’re getting ahead

But they keep going around in circles

Over and over and over again

Wonder if they know where they began

Wonder if they know they’ll never reach the end

 

Back on the highway to nowhere

But I think I’m going somewhere

Because I’m running my own race

I’m setting my own  pace

Some people keep passing me over and over again

But they keep winding up behind me

They don’t even know where they’ve been

That’s the way it is

On the highway to nowhere

BE WISE=AND SURRENDER TO OUR GOD

 

BE WISE=AND SURRENDER TO GOD

 

Saint Paul tells us

Something ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING today

 

Do NOT surrender to the world

But surrender to God=for the FOOLISHNESS

Of the Lord=shames the wise

 

“God chose THE FOOLISH

Of the world-

To shame the wise”                                                                                                            1 Corinthians 1:27

 

MANY of us survive

In this world=be DEPENDING

On our wit=our wisdom=and our intelligence

 

But many of also SURVIVE

By being a LITTLE FOOLISH

By trusting in God

BY SURRENDERING to our God

BE WISE=AND SURRENDER TO GOD!

 

“THE FOOL=says in his heart

‘There is NO GOD’

 

They are corrupt-

Their deeds are vile=

There is no one-who does good”                                                                                                 Psalm 14:1

 

“And anyone who says’

‘YOU FOOL’

Will be in danger=of the fire of hell”                                                                                          Matthew 5:22

 

We all have=to be

A little WISE

AND SURRENDER=to our God

 

The SAINTS=the next two days

Saint Monica=and her son=Saint Augustine

Are two of the smartest people

IN Christian history

Yet=THEY SURRENDERED TO GOD

 

Where would be

Without their CONTRIBUTIONS

To our Christian faith?

But it is NOT for their intelligence

 

That we celebrate them

We celebrate them

FOR THEIR FOOLISHNESS

They were WISE

And SURRENDERED TO GOD!

 

Monica spent years doing nothing

To help her son

EXCEPT praying for his conversion

 

Augustine GAVE UP

Career-marriage-connections-

And reputation=to become a CHRISTIAN

 

They spent=the rest of their lives

SURRENDERING TO GOD!=to follow

The WONDERFUL WAYS of Christ

 

FOLLOW the way=of

God and Jesus Christ=

Surrender to their ways

BE WISE=and be a fool=For God

 

“……..who went ahead of you

On your journey

 

In fire by night

And in a cloud=by day

To search out places

For you to camp

 

And show you

THE WAY=you should go”                                                                                                       Deuteronomy 1:33

 

Never worry

About being=a fool for God

 

Never worry about

SURRENDERING TO FOLLOW GOD’S WAY

Just like the SAINTS=Monica and Augustine

 

Thank you Lord=for guiding us

Even when we are fools=and

TOO WISE TO SURRENDER!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=of our ALWAYS LEADING=Holy Father God!

LOOKING FOR THE GOOD NEWS=IN LIFE!

 

LOOKING FOR

THE GOOD NEWS IN LIFE

We live in a fallen world-

A world FULL of sin

IT is hard to FIND

The GOOD NEWS in life

You read the daily newspaper

Or watch the news on TV

And the world

Is ripe with stories of:

murder-child molestation-violent crimes-

And EVERY kind of white collar crimes

That there is:

Fraud-deceit-libel and slander-and on-

And on-and on

WHERE do we find the good news

In the world?

Where do we find our HOPE?

WE FIND it in God-

We find it in Jesus-

We find it ONLY in God

Where the REAL HOPE is

For this world

Yet the world 

Doesn't want to believe it now

Just as it didn't want

To believe it 2,000 years ago

“Jesus said,

'….....no prophet

Is ACCEPTED in his own native place'”                                                 Luke 4:24

LOOKING for the good news

In LIFE

After John

Was put in prison

Jesus went to Galilee 

And PREACHED the good news

From God

“'The right time has come,'

He said,

'The kingdom of God

Has come near,

Repent and BELIEVE the good news'”                                             Mark 1:14-15

Believe the good news

It is NEAR

It is as close

As God and Jesus

Is to us

ALL we have to do

Is OPEN our hearts

That is where they LIVE

“LIGHT in a messenger's eyes

Brings JOY to the heart

And good news

Gives health to the bones”                                                        Proverbs 15:30

Believe the good news

Of the Lord

Bring HEALTH to your body-

To your mind-

And to your spirit

“........The people were looking

For him

And WHEN they came

To where he was

They tried to keep him

From leaving them

But he said,

'I must PROCLAIM

the good news

Of the kingdom of God

To the other towns

Because that is why

I was sent'”                                                                 Luke 4:42-43

Do you ever feel that way

FEEL like Jesus?

I KNOW that I do

I know that I feel

MY PURPOSE in life

Is to tell-

The GOOD NEWS of the Lord

ALL OVER AGAIN

To anyone and EVERYONE in life

That will listen

What could be more important

Than our salvation?

Than LIVING for all of eternity

With God and Jesus

WELL we have the good news

Of the world-that we see and hear everyday

And we have the GOOD NEWS of the Lord

In the bible-maybe more of us

Should take the time

TO OPEN IT UP

Dear Lord-WE PRAY

HELP us to be unconcerned

About what others think of us-

About we say and do

And to SHARE the good news

Of the Lord

WE are all looking

To FIND the good news

In life

Dear Lord-The GOOD NEWS IN LIFE

Church.  My FAITH and my cousin Lisa, brought me to his Church for a year,

And it was a blessing.
