GOD WANTS US BACK!

 

I was FORTUNATE=IN LIFE

I was born=into A LOVING FAMILY

And a father and mother

 

WHO STAYED TOGETHER=for 47 years

And who BELIEVED IN GOD=and love

I was BAPTIZED=on

My mom and dad’s=FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

And I had=TWO LOVING SISTERS=yet to come

 

BUT all people=in this world

ARE NOT THAT FORTUNATE=I guess

 That is=WHY so many people

Have TURNED=away from God

I guess that is=why we

HAVE so many transgressions=when

We TURN AWAY FROM GOD

GOD WANTS US BACK!

 

“As far as the EAST=is

FROM THE WEST=so far has he

Put our TRANSGRESSIONS=from us”                                                                                           Psalm 103:12

 

God is=OUR STARTING POINT=in life

He should be=OUR ENDING POINT TOO!

 

So many of us=GET LOST

On the WRONG ROAD=In this life

That is OK=get it=out of your system

And=RETURN TO GOD

 

Take the road=back to God

GOD WANTS YOU BACK!

 

“Enter through=the narrow gate=

For wide is the gate=and broad

IS THE ROAD=that lead to destruction

And many enter=through it”                                                                                          Matthew 3:13

 

NO MATTER=how far=we

DRIFT AWAY=from God=No matter how far

We go in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION=of God

Return to God

 

He ALWAYS wants us=to

Travel back towards him

God’s love=God’s forgiveness=GOD’S COMPASSION

Is waiting for us=WHEN we return to God

Our God=wants us to RETURN to him

GOD WANTS US BACK!

 

Dear Lord=HELP US=to know

That you are=THE TRUE WAY

In this upside-down world=to

RETURN TO GOD

GOD WANTS US BACK!=He

Wants us back

 

“But the servant replied’=

‘Look in this town=there

Is a man of God=he is

 

Highly respected=and everything he says

COMES TRUE

 

Let us go there now=Perhaps

He will tell us=What to take’”                                                                                                   1 Samuel 9:6

 

“The angel said to me’=

‘These words are trustworthy=and TRUE

The Lord=the God=who inspires the prophets

Sent his angels=to show his servants

You are the STARTING POINT

Jesus brought with him

A NEW COVENANT=one written

And with it comes a SPIRIT

Of COMPASSION=of loving one another

As we love ourselves

That you are a LETTER

From Christ

The result

Of our ministry

Written NOT with ink

But with the SPIRIT

Of the LIVING GOD

But on

Yes Jesus is-

The NEW covenant

Written on our hearts

With his LOVE

The world is degenerating=

MORE every day

What has happened

To us?

WHY aren't we living

With the Spirit of Christ?

The Spirit of LOVE?

That is living

In our hearts

This new covenant

That Jesus brought-was

Written with HIS BLOOD

“.....God.....has

Indeed qualified us

As ministers

Of anew covenant

NOT of letter

But of spirit

For the letter

Brings death

But the spirit GIVES LIFE”                                                                            2 Corinthians 3:5-6

Jesus' covenant=REPLACED

The Jewish purity code

And it is a

Code of COMPASSION

That should be

WRITTEN on our hearts

As MINISTERS

Of the NEW COVENANT

We need to LIVE

With COMPASSION

Like we never did before

“As a father

Has COMPASSION

On his children

So the Lord

Has COMPASSION

On those who fear him”                                                                                         Psalm 103:13

WHEN we live

With the LORD'S COMPASSION

On our HEARTS

And are reaching out

To others

We are LIVING

Even if it is

Only bringing one person to God

That furthers Jesus’ purpose

The great commission is upon us

Let us begin to make disciples

Today we have=THE LEGENDARY STORY

Of Solomon=the SON OF DAVID=asking FOR WISDOM

When he=GOD TELLS US

He could have had=ANY GIFT from God

That he wanted

 

WHAT WOULD YOU=HAVE ASKED FOR?

Would you have=had THE FORESIGHT

To ask for WISDOM?=

The way SOLOMON DID

 

“God said=’ASK SOMETHING 0f me

And I will give it to you’”                                                                                                 1 Kings 3:5

 

Technically=SOLOMON asked for

“AN UNDERSTANDING HEART”=translated also

Into wisdom

 

He could have=ASKED FOR ANYTHING=

He could have asked for=A LONG LIFE

He could have asked for RICHES=or

Death to his enemies

 

But he=ASKED FOR WISDOM=and God

Granted this=With the UNDERSTANDING

That=ONLY our God has

WHAT WOULD YOU=ASK FOR?

 

What gift from God

Would you want=Would it BE WISDOM?

 

“The fear of the Lord=IS

The beginning of WISDOM=all who follow

His precepts=Have good understanding”                                                                               Psalm 11:10

 

“But God=made the earth

By his power=he founded the world

BY HIS WISDOM”                                                                                                                       Jeremiah 10:12

 

“And Jesus grew=IN WISDOM

And stature=and in favor

With God and man”                                                                                                              Luke 2:52

 

INSTEAD of asking=GOD to change

Other people=Instead of asking God

For CHANGES=in our own circumstances

 

Maybe we should ask for=things

MORE LIKE PATIENCE=for more of the GIFTS

Of the Holy Spirit

 

So that=we CAN

Not only survive in this life

BUT THRIVE=in this world=by living

With the GIFTS OF GOD

 

“But the fruit of the SPIRIT=is love=

Joy=peace=forbearance=kindness=goodness=faithfulness

Gentleness=and self-control

Against such things=there is no law”                                                                                    Galatians 5:22-23

 

TO POSSESS=all of these things=

To possess=the SPIRIT OG GOD

Might be better=than what Solomon asked for

 

Dear Lord=we all NEED

THE WISDOM OF GOD=we pray to you

For this AMAZING QUALITY

 

Please help us=to live

With MORE UNDERSTANDING=and

A loving heart

 

“I run=in the path=of your commands

For you=have broadened MY UNDERSTANDING”                                                                  Psalm 119:32

 

“The Lord is=the everlasting God

The Creator=of the ends=of the earth

 

He will=NOT grow tired or weary

IF you could have ANYTHING=in the world

WHAT would you ask for?=Would you BE

As smart and unselfish as Solomon?

Anger=gossip=seeking and SEARCHING

For popularity

 

MOSES broke the stone=of

The ten commandments=OVER false idols

I WONDER=what Moses=would do today

 

There is=ONLY ONE GOD

THE GOD OF LOVE=loving God

And others=ABOVE ALL ELSE

 

“From the rest=he makes

A god=HIS IDOL=he bows down to it

And worships

 

“He prays to it=and says

‘Save me=You are my god’”                                                                                                              Isiah 44:17

 

“So then=about eating food sacrificed

TO IDOLS=we know that

‘An IDOL=is nothing at all=in this world’=and that

‘THERE IS NO GOD=BUT ONE’”                                                                                                    1 Corinthians 8:4

Whatever belongs to your earthly nature=

 

Sexual immorality=impurity=lust=

GIFTS FROM GOD!

 

Jesus’ life=was

A GIFT FROM GOD=it

Set the EXAMPLE=as to

HOW=we all are to LIVE

 

The SCRIPTURES=the commandments=and

Jesus in the EUCHARIST=are all GIFTS

To us too

GIFTS FROM GOD!

 

“Gross=is the heart=of this people

They will hardly=HEAR with their ears=

They have CLOSED THEIR EYES…….”                                                                                            Matthew 13:15

 

Sometimes we ALL=CLOSE

Our eyes=our ears=and our HEARTS

To the COMMANDS=from our God

TO HIS GUIDELENES=for our life

 

It is TIME=to listen

To the people of God=to the prophets

To the apostles and Saints=and to Jesus Himself

 

MAYBE=if we did=our world

WOULD NOT=be in the shape

That it is in=RIGHT NOW=let us BEGIN

To pay attention=TO CHRIST’S LIFE

 

Let us begin to=PAY ATTENTION

To those=GIFTS FROM GOD

 

“Praise the Lord=Blessed are those

THE EXAMPLE of his own life=the

Jesus didn’t avoid=

THE SINNERS of his time=the tax collectors

The adulterers=and all the others

 

He told them=TO RETURN to him

And sin no more=just like he tells us

He gave us=THE GIFTS FROM GOD=and

The EXAMPLE OF LOVE=he set

With his own life

 

“If you=RETURN TO THE LORD

Then your fellow Israelites=and your children

Will be shown compassion

 

By their captors=and will

RETURN to this land=for the Lord

Form our God=are NOT casual suggestions

Rather they are the gift=they are THE EXAMPLES

Jesus was healing the sick

It wasn’t enough

 

The people of his day

Wanted a sign

“A wicked and adulterous generation

Asks for a miraculous sign

Except the sign of Jonah”

 

Jonah was a prophet

And had to spend 3 days and 3 nights

In he belly of a fish

To rescue he Ninevite people

 

What about us today

We want a sign

That God exists

We want scientific proof/evidence

 

What about the sign

That Jesus

Was crucified, died, and was buried

What about the sign

That 3 days later

Jesus overcame death

 

What about

That sign

 

What about the sign

Of your very own life

How do you know

That if someone else

Was given a chance

That they might have worshiped God

A 1000 times better

We are BLESSED=if

We have GOOD FAMILIES=

I had=the greatest of

FAMILIES=sisters=and some

GREAT GRANDPARENTS TOO=we are BLESSED

If we have that=I WAS FORTUNATE=to know

SOME of my grandparents=and I am=we are

FOREVER IN THEIR DEBT!

FOREVER GRATEFUL!=for my grandparents

For my family

Today we CELEBRATE=the feast

Of Jesus’ grandparents=

Saints Joachim and Anne=Mary’s father and mother

 

It makes me WONDER=IF

Jesus knew his grandparents=and

What kind=OF FAMILY RELATIONSHIP they had

 

I would venture to GUESS=that

They had a=REALLY CLOSE RELATIONSHIP

BASED on Jesus’ relationship=with his MOTHER

 

And that he was=FOREVER GRATEFUL

For his grandparents=Joachim and Anne

FOREVER GRATEFUL!=for his grandparents

Giving thanks always

 

“Enter his gates=WITH THANKSGIVING

And his courts=with praise=GIVE THANKS

To him=and praise his name”                                                                                               Psalm 100:4

 

“BUT THANKS=be to God=who

Always leads us=as captives=in

When I was young=going on SEVEN

HE DIED

ONE DAY=my first grade teacher

CALLED my mom=and said=

“What is WRONG=with Bobby?=He

Is acting like=he just LOST=HIS BEST FRIEND”

 

“My mom=said “He did=

MY FATHER JUST DIED”

 

I used to SIT on his lap=and he

WOULD TELL ME STORIES

 

I loved all=of my grandparents

BUT THIS MAN=lives in MY HEART

To this very day=I STILL REMEMBER HIM!

 

And so TODAY=as we honor Jesus

And his grandparents=Joachim and Anne

 

Let us REMEMBER=our own grandparents

And all grandparents=and the SPECIAL ROLE

They play=IN OUR FAMILIES=and their LOVE

FOREVER GRATEFUL!=for our grandparents

 

In 2023=GRANDPARENTS DAY=is  September 10th

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the NAME of the HOLY FAMILY=as well as our Holy Father God

JAMES THE GREATER

 

 

James the Greater

Was a son of Zebedee

Was an Apostle

And together

With his brother John

Were called “sons of thunder”

 

“Going on from there

He saw two other brothers

James-son of Zebedee

And his brother John

 

They were in a boat

With their father Zebedee

Preparing their nets

 

Jesus called them

And immediately

They left their boat

And their father

And followed him”                                                                Matthew 4:21-22

 

Thus James

Was an original Apostle

 

We know that James

Along with Peter

And his brother John

Were present at the Transfiguration

 

“After six days

Jesus took with him

Peter, James and John-the brother of James

And led them up to a high mountain

By themselves”                                                                             Matthew 17:1

 

There they saw Jesus

Talking with Moses and Elijah

 

And we know

That James and John were so presumptuous

SO HUMAN
That they asked for their spot

In the kingdom

 

“Teacher,” they said,

“We want you to do for us

Whatever we ask”

 

“What do you want me to do

For you,” Jesus asked

 

They replied

“Let one of us

Sit at the right

And the other at your left

In your glory”

 

And Jesus told them,

“Whoever wants to become great

Among you

Must be a servant

And whoever wants to be first

In other words

They have to prove themselves first

 

As we too

Must prove ourselves

To be a servant of God

 

He was the first Apostle

To die for the Christian faith

 

Legend has it

That he preached the Gospel in Spain

After the Resurrection

 

That is why today

He is the patron Saint of Spain

 

He was put to death by the sword

By King Herod

 

So today-his feast today

We pray Dear Lord

That we prove ourselves just like Saint James

 

Only NOT by dying

For the faith

 

But by LIVING for it

 I have experienced the words:

I have heard the words

From an attractive young woman

“I love you as a friend”

Not that big of a deal now

But at the time

I thought it was the end

 

God is in my heart

 

There have been times

With not a penny in my pocket

I didn’t know

Where my next meal

Was coming from

 

God is in my soul

 

Have you ever been so sick

And flat on your back

Not able to get up

And heard the words

“Get up—there isn’t anything wrong with you”

I have

And it isn’t any fun

 

“I can do all things through him that strengthens me”

(Philippians 4:17)

Neither death nor life”

NEVER ABANDONED=BY OUR GOD

 

NEVER ABANDONED!=

By Our God

 

THIS LIFE=this world=has a WAY

Of bringing us ALL DOWN

At times

 

It has=a way

Of trying=to take=OUR HOPE AWAY

 

But=IF we stay close=to OUR God=

And our Jesus=we have A WAY TOO

Of making it through

EVERYTHING=this world throws at us

 

For our Lord=NEVER ABANDONS US

NEVER ABANDONED!=by our God

 

“We are AFFLICTED=in every way=

But not constrained=perplexed

But=NOT driven to despair=persecuted

BUT NOT ABANDONED”                                                                                                        2 Corinthians 4:9

 

This world=has a WAY

Of throwing a MULTITUDE of problems

At us=at the SAME TIME

 

But if we=REMAIN=close to God

CLOSE TO JESUS=we will FIND GOD

In the MIDST=of our problems

Helping us=TO SOLVE THEM

NEVER ABANDONED!=by our God

By the Lord

 

“FIX these words=of mine=

In your hearts and minds

 

Tie them=as symbols=on your hands

And bind them=on your foreheads”                                                                                     Deuteronomy 11:18

 

“Let your eyes=look straight ahead

FIX YOUR GAZE=Directly before you”                                                                               Proverbs 4:25

 

Sometimes=LIFE gangs up on us

Hitting us=with a bunch of problems

At the SAME TIME

 

Health problems=Financial problems=and

Relationship problems=EVEN Jesus=at the end

FELT ABANDONED=by his Father

 

But Jesus=stuck it out

To the very end=and his Father VINDICATED HIM

In the Resurrection

FIND HOPE=in the Holy Father God

Finding HOPE=In his Son=Jesus Christ

 

“For the Lord=Your God

Is a merciful God

 

He will NOT ABANDON=or destroy you

Or forget the covenant=with your ancestors

Which he confirmed to them=by oath”                                                                               Deuteronomy 4:31

 

“The SPIRIT clearly says=

That in later times=Some WILL ABANDON

The faith=and follow deceiving spirits=and things

Taught by demons”                                                                                                           1 Timothy 4:1

 

But that is NOT THE CASE=

For you and me=for we PUT OUR FAITH

In God and Jesus=who NEVER abandon us

And gives us HOPE

 

HELPING UP=carry the weight

Of our crosses=by Giving us HOPE ALWAYS

NEVER ABANDONED!=by our God

 

“But those=WHO HOPE=in the Lord

Will renew their strength

 

They will soar=On wings=like eagles

They will run=and NOT grow weary

They will walk=and not be faint”                                                                                       Isaiah 40:31

 

That is US=for we PUT OUR HOPE

IN the Holy Father God=and his Son Christ Jesus

WHO NEVER ABANDON US!

In the name=of Jesus OUR LORD=and his Holy Father God!

All through the Bible

There are references

To forgiveness

Both human forgiveness

And forgiveness by God

To us

 

The great thing about forgiveness

Is that

You cannot earn it

It is freely given

To you by God

Or someone else

 

Esau forgives Jacob

Even after he steals his birthright

 

Joseph forgives his brothers

After they left him for dead

 

Stephen---the first Christian martyr

Forgave those who stoned him including Saul

 

And the loving father

Forgives his long lost son

After he squandered everything

That he had

 

And then their is

The forgiveness of God

 

“If you, Oh Lord, kept a record

Of sins, oh Lord, who could stand

But with you there is forgiveness

Therefore you are feared”                                             Psalm 130:4

 

And

 

“Who is a God like you

Who pardons sins and forgives

The transgression of the remnant of his inheritance

You do not stay angry forever

But delight to show mercy”                                            Micah 7:18

 

How often should we forgive

Our brothers and sisters

7x

Surely that is more than generous

 

“I tell you---not seven times

But 70 times 7 times,” Jesus said                                       Matthew 18:22

 

“Father forgive them---for they know not

What they do”

 

“It is finished”                                                          John 19:30

 

Thank you Lord for loving us

 

And FORGIVING US

GOD IS WITH US=ALWAYS

 

GOD IS=WITH US ALWAYS!

 

IF you are like me=You

Are CONSTANTLY asking God=FOR SIGNS

That you are=ON THE RIGHT TRACK

With your life

 

The people of YESTERYEAR

Were not any different=they were ALWAYS

Asking the Lord=for signs

 

“Teacher=we wish to see

A SIGN=from you”                                                                                                                     Matthew 11:28

 

But the TRUTH is=there

Are NOT USUALLY=any OVERT SIGNS

From God

 

We just have to=

MUDDLE THROUGH ON FAITH=living

THE TWO GREAT COMMANDMENTS=forgiveness

And the BEATITUDES=just KNOWING

GOD IS=ALWAYS WITH US!

 

I am probably=NEVER

Going to see a SIGN=that says

“BOB=I AM WITH YOU”

And neither are you

 

Nevertheless=if God=if love

IS LIVING=in our hearts=we

Can FEEL HIS LOVE=we can feel Jesus

 

“Therefore=the Lord himself=will

GIVE YOU A SIGN=

 

The virgin will conceive=and give birth

To a son=and will call him Immanuel”                                                                                         Immanuel 7:14

 

HOW is that=for a SIGN?

We have ALREADY=received the SIGN

What further sign=do we need?

 

“For false messiahs=and prophets

Will appear and perform=GREAT SIGNS and wonders

To deceive=if possible=even the elect”                                                                                  Matthew 24:24

 

Just because=we CANNOT SEE God

See Jesus=it doesn’t mean

He is not there

 

We can FEEL HIM=we

Can feel Jesus’ love=and he himself

Has told us=he is

WITH US ALWAYS=

GOD IS WITH US ALWAYS!

 

“Therefore=go and make disciples

Of all nations=Baptizing them

In the name of the Father=

And of the Son=and of the Holy Spirit

 

And teaching them=to obey everything

I have commanded you=And surely I am with you

ALWAYS=to the very end=of the age”                                                                                        Matthew 28:19-20

 

We HAVE=the Holy Father God=and Christ

IN THE SCRIPTURES=and in=THE EUCHARIST

And we have them=LIVING in our hearts=our minds

And in OUR SOULS

 

EVERY DAY=we wake up

With another day=OF LIFE

It is a MIRACLE=we have

 

ALL THE SIGNS=we need=Our God

Our Jesus=is with us=ALL

The days of our life

GOD IS WITH US ALWAYS!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the LIVING PROOF=of our FOREVER LIVING=Forever loving=Holy Father God!
