IDENTIFYING=with the sermon

 

Or worse yet=

Because of an ACCENT

NOT even be able=TO UNDERSTAND

What he or she=was saying

 

It has HAPPENED to me=

Oh too many times

But with=AN OPEN HEART=AND

AN OPEN MIND

We can

Still take something from it

By focusing on the

TEACHINGS OF CHRIST

AN OPEN HEART=AN OPEN MIND

 

“When the sabbath came=

He began to TEACH=in the synagogue

And many who heard him=WERE ASTONISHED”                                                                   Mark 6:2

 

Jesus was BLESSED=

With the gift of PREACHING

With the gift

OF THE WORDS

 

There are MANY who are=

And many who are NOT

But ALL of us=who have AN OPEN HEART

AND OPEN MIND=can still learn

The MOST important relationship

That we will ever have

In our life

Is with God

At least

As far as I am concerned

I believe ALL other relationships

All things of importance

Stem from there

Stem from LOVING GOD FIRST

And stem from loving others second

CONNECT to God

In this world

Immediately preceding this

Jesus HEALED an entire town

Of people

Who were ill

Or POSESSED by demons

I don't know-but I imagine

He was tired-after a day

LIKE THIS

Nevertheless-his first action-

WHEN getting up-

Was going to pray

To the FATHER

CONNECTING with the Father

That most important relationship 

Maybe that should be

OUR FIRST ACTION everyday too

PRAYING to the Father-

Connecting to the Father-

And PRAYING FOR OTHERS each day

“My servant Job

Will pray for you

And I will ACCEPT his prayer

And NOT deal with you

According to your folly

You have not spoken

The truth about me

The POWER of 

A praying man-or a praying woman

That most important relationship

Is our relationship

With God

“Therefore-confess your sins

To each other

And PRAY for each other

So that 

We may be HEALED

The prayer 

Of a righteous person

IS POWERFUL AND EFFECTIVE”                                                     James 5:16

WHEN we connect 

To God first

It changes the way

That we think

It changes the way

That we feel

It EFFECTS every choice

That we make

OUR RELATIONSHIP with God

IS our most important relationship 

And it should stem

From love

On our side too

And WHEN we connect 

With God out of love

That leads us

To CONNECT with others out of love too

Is it any wonder

That Jesus told us

That these

Were the first two commandments

(In fact-the only two)

The choices that we make

Dictates our actions

Our actions 

Dictate our character

And our character

Dictates OUR DESTINY

Our destiny is INTERTWINED

With God and with others

If we just REMEMBER

It is a GREAT TEMPTATION

To make our life

Just about me

Who SHARED his gifts

Was Saint John Bosco

Who we CELEBRATE TODAY

 

He was a great EDUCATOR

And SHARED HIS GIFTS

With the coming generation

PARTICULARLY YOUNG MEN

 

He is a GOOD REMENDER

Not to be anxious=and selfish

About our lives=

And to SHARE OUR GIFTS!

With those around us

And the coming GENERATIONS

 

Dear Lord=help us to REALIZE

I have

Some good news for you

 

There is

Nothing to worry about

If we are in tune with God

What we are supposed to be doing

 

Do you think Christ was worried

The 33 years or so

He walked this earth

 

“Heaven and earth will pass away

But my words

Will never pass away”                                                 Matthew 24:36

 

Doesn’t sound like he was too worried to me

He KNEW who he was

 

“And the WORD OF GOD

Is living and active                                                       

Sharper than any double-edged sword

It penetrates

Even to dividing soul and spirit

Joints and marrow

It judges the thoughts and attitudes

Of the heart”                                                                Hebrews 4:12

 

He KNEW who he was

 

And if you know him

God’s living---breathing---active word

The words of the spirit

Are alive in you---they LIVE in you

 

That is your legacy

That---YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD

Lifted up by our God

THE GOD OF THE LIVING

NOT of the dead

 

“I no longer live

But Christ lives on me”                                                  2 Galatians 20

 

“And so we know

And rely on the love

God has for us

 

God is love

Whoever lives in love

Lives in God

And God in him

 

In this way

Love is made complete among us

So that we will have confidence

IN TROUBLED TIMES

 

We live=IN
TROUBLED TIMES=but

There has been MANY TROUBLED TIMES

Throughout history=I am NOT sure

IF they are any worse today=than ever before

IN TROUBLED TIMES!

 

“……..who BY FAITH

Conquered kingdoms=did

What was righteous=obtained the promises”                                                                        Hebrews 11:33

 

Can you NAME

A time IN HISTORY=when

We weren’t troubled?

 

I CANNOT=we have    

ALWAYS had injustices=

During every AGE in history=every time

Has had ITS OWN

TROUBLES and challenges

 

Like wars=economic issues=and NATURAL DISASTERS

All we can do=is keep living

ON GOD’S LOVE

During these troubled times

SHARE THE LOVE=IN TROUBLED TIMES

 

“Mortals=born of woman

Are of few days=and FULL OF TROUBLE”                                                                          Job 14:1

 

“God is our refuge

And strength=

An ever- present help=IN TROUBLE”                                                                               Psalm 46:1

 

“Therefore do not worry

About tomorrow=for tomorrow

Will worry about itself

 

Each day=HAS ENOUGH TROUBLE

Of its own”                                                                                                                          Matthew 6:34

 

That is FOR SURE=

We never know=what a DAY will bring

But sometimes it brings

HAPPINESS and love=and good things too

IN TROUBLED TIMES!

 

Just REMEMBER your parents

Your grandparents=Your ancestors

Had troubled times too=

And they made it THROUGH

Until the next days

 

WHAT ENABLES US

To keep getting through=until tomorrow

Is our FAITH=OUR HOPE=and our LOVE

ALL blessings from God

During=TROUBLED TIMES

 

“All the BELIEVERS

Were one in heart=and mind

 

No one claimed

That any of their possessions

Were their own=but they

This is HOW=we

Get through the troubled times

BY BELIEVING IN GOD

LIVING HOLINESS EVERY DAY

When we think of HOLINESS=

It often makes us think

Of an OVERLY PIOUS person

Who is maybe neither GOOD

For heaven or earth

Holiness is really NOT that way=

It IS just having a CERTAIN

Set of principles=PRAYING=doing good=

And LIVING out of LOVE

“Be HOLY=for I=the LORD=am holy”                                                                   Leviticus 19:2

LIVE HOLINESS every day=let it BE

A PART of your life

Some of the holiest people that I know

Are DOWN to earth=good people=

LIVING GOOD LIVES

And it certainly is NOT walking around

Saying=”PRAISE THE LORD”

All the time

What happens=when you ENGAGE with a

Truly holy person=is that you SHARE your

Thoughts and ideas=and you do so

WITHOUT JUDGING OTHERS

DOING the right thing=becomes

ORDINARY=when you=

Are living holy lives

And reading the bible=and praying=

Becomes part of your daily living=

As well as GOING to MASS or to CHURCH

AS often as possible

“Let them praise your great

And AWESOME NAME---------

He is HOLY”                                                                                                         Psalm 99:3

“The fear of the Lord

Is the BEGINNING of wisdom

And knowledge of the HOLY ONE

Is understanding”                                                                                            Proverbs 9:10

“The angel answered=

'The HOLY SPIRIT will come

On you

And the power of the MOST HIGH

Will overshadow you

So the holy one to be BORN

Will be called

The SON OF GOD”                                                                                                    Luke 1:35

Of course=NONE of us

Will lead holy lives

Like Jesus

But we can EMULATE HIM=and LIVE

His principles of LOVE and forgiveness

In CONJUNCTION with who we are and

HOW we live our lives

LIVING HOLINESS with an ordinary

Life=is possible=And being down

To earth too

WHEN we are living holy lives=

We are concerned about JUSTICE=

And we are living GOD'S COMMANDMENTS

In TUNE with our fellow man

And we promote and support life=

And REVERENCE and HONOR others=

We respect others

We PRAY TOGETHER for

The NEEDS of the world

HOLINESS can be just that=an

ORDINARY WAY of living=and it is

A life that LEADS to JOY

“The Lord is my strength

And my shield

My heart TRUSTS in him

And he HELPS ME

My heart LEAPS for JOY

And with my song

I PRAISE HIM”                                                                                                         Psalm 28:7

Get CLOSE to God=get close

To JESUS=live HOLINESS EVERY DAY

Do you EVER WONDER=

How the PRIORITIES=of this world

Go so completely mixed up?

AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD!=

If you will

 

NOT anything like

What Jesus and his apostles

ADVOCATED for this world=

Love=forgiveness=and KINDNESS

To name just a few

AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD!

 

“……..GOD CHOSE

The weak of the world

To SHAME the strong……..”                                                                                                  1 Corinthians 1:27

 

It is just

AS TRUE TODAY=as when

Our Lord was WALKING

The hillsides and grass=in the old old world

OF YESTERDAY

It was=

AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD back then

And it still is

AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD TODAY!

 

It makes it so difficult

To KEEP GOD AND FAMILY

First in our lives

 

WHEN the world tells us=

It is MATERIAL THINGS=sex appeal

And popularity that matters

We live in

AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD!

 

“If I were hungry=

I would not tell you

 

FOR THE WORLD

Is mine=and all

That is in it”                                                                                                                     Psalm 50:12

 

“You are=

The light of THE WORLD

 

A town built=on a hill

Cannot be hidden”                                                                                                         Matthew 5:14

 

“For God=

SO LOVED THE WORLD

 

That he gave his one=

And only SON=that whoever

Believes in him

Shall not perish=but have ETERNAL LIFE”                                                                         John 3:16

 

WHY DOES

Jesus’ view of the world=

OFFEND the powers that be=

Because we live

IN AN UPSIDE WORLD!=where

The world’s views=are ASKEW

 

Jesus loves US=

The SO-CALLED LOSERS

Of this world

 

He loves the POOR=the meek=

And the forsaken=In other words

He loves us=we live in

AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD!

 

He loves us=BECAUSE

We have nothing=and NO ONE ELSE

To turn to

ONLY=God the Holy Father and Jesus

 

“You TURN THINGS=UPSIDE DOWN

As if the potter=were thought

To be like the clay”                                                                                                            Isaiah 29:16

 

So what is=THE LESSON

From God today?=from Jesus?

 

It is that=we are

TOTALLY DEPENDENT=on God and Jesus

In this=UPSIDE DOWN WORLD

That we live in

 

It is that=we are to LIVE

Like God and Jesus=in this world

 

May you live=with CHANGED VALUES

Love=forgiveness=and KINDNESS

Do you like to work

Do you

Have a GOOD work ethic

 

NOW a days

Not only do we have jobs

But we have CAREERS

That we specialize in

 

It may SURPRISE you

To know

That God

Has a LOT to say

ABOUT WORK

 

First off he says

Do your work IN SIX DAYS

 

“Six days do your work

But on the seventh day

DO NOT WORK”                                                      Exodus 23:12

 

After ALL

GOD CREATED the world in six days

And on the seventh day

He RESTED

 

These days

I do NOT work for money

BUT nevertheless

I consider the work

That I do

Very important

 

Perhaps more important

Than when I worked for a career

 

I am working for the LORD

In fact, Jesus considered HIS MISSION AS WORK

 

“As long as it is day

WE MUST do the work of HIM

Who sent me

 

Night is coming

When no one can work

 

WHILE I AM

in the world

I am

THE LIGHT of the world”                                                    John 9:4-5

 

And we

Should have the SAME WORK ETHIC

That Jesus did

 

Though we

MAY NOT be the light

Of the world

 

We may be

The ONLY LIGHT OF GOD

That some people

May see

 

And whatever work

That we do

We should do it well

We should

Have PRIDE in our work

Even if

It is just sweeping floors

 

And ALWAYS know

That God wants you

To be HAPPY in your work

 

“MOREOVER

When God gives any man

Wealth and possessions

And enables him

To enjoy them

To accept his lot

And be HAPPY in his work-

This is a GIFT OF GOD”                                             Ecclesiastes 5:19

 

And KNOW

That whatever God began in you

He WILL carry it on to completion

 

God will NEVER forget you

And neither will I

 

BE HAPPY

In your work

WHETHER it is

THE WORK OF GOD

OR the work of your career

(or BOTH)

 

BE HAPPY

And do it

To the BEST of your ability

WE ARE=Many of us are

LIVING WITH FAITH=In God

And Jesus=

But we know NOT

What we are hoping for

 

It is a CHALLENGE

For we are=HOPING FOR

Something that we CANNOT SEE

Have faith anyway

LIVING WITH FAITH

 

“FAITH is the realization=

Of what=is hoped for

And evidence of things=NOT SEEN”                                                                                             Hebrews 11:1

 

Human natures wants PROOF

Of everything

We want proof=we want EVIDENCE

THAT GOD EXISTS=and that

Jesus is=THE SON OF GOD

 

But we must accept it

HAVE FAITH=

My heart=my mind=my soul

My gut=tells me

That that is so=HAVE FAITH!

LIVING WITH FAITH!

 

“Then he touched their eyes

And said’=

‘According to YOUR FAITH

That you and I=may be

Mutually encouraged

FINDING COMFORT IN GOD

 

 

How would you define

The word comfort

 

The dictionary defines comfort

As “to soothe- to counsel-

To reassure-and to

Bring cheer to”

 

Where do you find your comfort

In times of grief

In times of trouble

And so on

And so on

And so on

 

Of course

We find it in family and friends

And we find it IN GOD

A God

Who ALWAYS understands

 

“Great is our Lord

And mighty in power

His understanding

Has NO limit”                                                                         Psalm 147:5

 

For example in times of grief

When we’ve lost someone

Very meaningful in our lives

 

Job felt grief

When he LOST everyone

And everything

And he had three friends

Come and sit with him

For seven days

 

“When they saw him from a distance

They could hardly recognize him

They began to weep aloud

And they tore their robes

And sprinkled dust on their heads

 

Then they sat on the ground with him

For seven days and seven nights

No one said a word to him

Because they saw HOW GREAT

His suffering was”                                                                 Job 2:12-13

 

And in psalm 23 it says:

 

“Even though I walk

Through the valley

Of the shadow of death

 

I will fear no evil

For you are with me

Your rod and staff

COMFORT me”                                                                    Psalm 23:4

 

HOW about that

For a COMFORTING God

He walks

Through the valley of death

With us

 

And he is with us

When we are in trouble

NOTHING can separate our God

From us

 

“For I am convinced

That neither death nor life

Neither angels nor demons

Neither the present

Nor the future

Nor any powers

 

Neither height nor depth

Nor anything else in all creation

Will be able to separate us

From the LOVE OF GOD

That is Christ Jesus our Lord”                                                  Romans 8:38-39

 

How about that

For a comforting God

NOTHING can separate us

From OUR God

 

Not grief-not trouble

NOT our sin-NOT when we fall short

Not even when we are afraid

 

“COMFORT-COMFORT my people says our God”                 Isaiah 40:1

 

And God

Will leave his own spirit behind

To help us find the PEACE AND COMFORT

That we need

 

“”PEACE I leave with you

My peace I give you

I do not give it to you

As the world gives

DO NOT let your hearts be troubled

And do not be afraid”                                                                   John 14:27

 

Find your peace

FIND YOUR COMFORT

I was wondering

How to answer God

I was wondering

What would I do

When the test did come

 

What I didn’t know

Was I already said yes

I was doing it

All the time

 

I was doing it

Every time

I kissed a baby

I was doing it

Every time

I hugged a child

 

While I was wondering

When I was to do it

I was doing it

All the while

 

I was doing it

Every time

That I greeted a friend

I was doing it

Every time

I sent someone a card

 

While I was wondering

When to do it

I was doing it

All the while

 

I was wondering

How to answer God

I was wondering

When the test would come

 

What I didn’t know

Was the test already came

I was doing it

All the while

WITH THE EYES=OF A CHILD

 

Don’t you just

Have BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES

From when

YOU WERE A CHILD

 

Don’t you REMEMBER

The GAMES that you once played

The love=

From your mother and father=

Don’t you remember=LIVING

WITH THE EYES=OF A CHILD

 

Jesus tells us to

REACH HEAVEN=we have

To be=LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN

We have to live

WITH THE EYES=OF A CHILD

 

“This is HOW it is

With the KINGDOM OF GOD”                                                                                                 Mark 4:26

 

I yearn

FOR THE INNOCENSE

Of a young child

I love to see

The young kids playing

 

Children DELIGHT IN TRUTH=

They don’t judge

EVERYONE=like we do=oh how

Great it would be

To go through life

WITH THE EYES=OF A CHILD

 

“The wolf

Will live with the lamb

The leopard=will lie down

With the goat

 

The calf and the lion

And the yearling together

AND A LITTLE CHILD=will lead them”                                                                                  Isaiah 11:6

 

“He called

A LITTLE CHILD=to him

And placed the CHILD

Among them=And he said

 

‘Truly I tell you

Unless you change

And become=LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN

 

You will never enter

The kingdom of heaven’”                                                                                                   Matthew 18:2-3

 

Jesus is telling us

That unless we become like

LITTL CHILDREN=think and accept others

In that INNOCENT WAY=we will

NOT enter the Kingdom of God

 

There is a CHILD=LIVING INSIDE

Each of us=ready to take us

To the=kingdom of God

LIVE WITH=THE EYES OF A CHILD

 

“Through the praise

OF CHILDREN and infants

 

You have established=a stronghold

Against your enemies=to silence

The foe and avenger”                                                                                                                Psalm 8:2

 

“Taking the CHILD=

In his arms=he said to them

 

‘Whoever welcomes

One of these LITTLE CHILDREN

In my name=welcomes me

 

And whoever welcomes me=

Does not welcome me=

But the one=who sent me’”                                                                                                    Mark 9:36-37

 

Dear Lord=we PRAY

That we see you=and see

ALL OTHERS=in this world

WITH THE EYES=OF A CHILD!

 

And that we continue=TO REJOICE

In the wonders=

Of Our GOD’S HOLY LOVE

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=OF OUR EVER innocent and LOVING=Holy Father God!
