It has been a tough year

For me personally=HEALTHWISE-

As it has been-

A tough year for ALL OF US

I am NOT ONE

To make resolutions=but I am one

For TRYING to improve myself=

And I will try again

This year=

I hope you will too!

IMPROVING OURSELVES!

“In the beginning

Was the WORD

And the Word

Was with God=

And the Word was God” John 1:1

But it is a TIME

To give some thought

To who

We have been

Where we were

And where we

Might be GOING

IMPROVING OURSELVES!

Getting better=moving forward

So keep on LOVING

Keep on forgiving

KEEP ON LIVING THE BEATITUDES

“BLESSED are the poor

In spirit=

For theirs is

The KINGDOM OF GOD

Blessed are those who mourn

For they will be comforted

Blessed are the MEEK

For they will inherit the earth” Matthew 5:3-5

Keep on LIVING GOD

Keep on loving God

Keep on IMPROVING YOURSELF

It is tough to make RESOLUTIONS=

When we know

We can't always keep them

So my advice is=

Take a SINCERE LOOK

At your life

And find the part

That you can BEST IMPROVE

FOCUS on changing

That part of your life

Keep on living

KEEP ON LOVING=

Keep on living the BEATITUDES

And from that=you will improve

“BLESSED are those who hunger

And thirst for righteousness=

For they will be FILLED

Blessed are the MERCIFUL

For they will be shown mercy

Blessed are the PURE IN HEART

For they will see God” Matthew 5:5-8

And go on and read

Add a daily prayer TO GOD

To HELP your life CHANGE

No guarantees=

Just worked in my experience

Just try getting CLOSE

To GOD=it has HELPED ME

LOOKING IN TWO DIRECTIONS

As we proceed

With our lives

We have to be READY

Tor two things

ONE-that our end will come-

Or that Jesus will come

For end times

For certainly ALL the signs

Are present

And-TWO-to remember to move

Boldly-into the future=

Being MINDFUL of all the good

God has done for us

And MOVE into the future

By LOVING God and loving our neighbor

“........It is a good thing

For a person

To REMAIN as he is

….....

I tell you-brothers (and sisters)

The time is running out

….....

For the world

In its present form

Is passing away” 1 Corinthians 7:26, 29, 31

WHEN Saint Paul wrote this

After Jesus' Resurrection

The people were waiting

And willing for Christ's return

They didn't want to make

Any life changes

For they thought

The end was near

WE the modern day Christians

Are waiting for HIS return

As well as living in LOVE

By loving our neighbors

LOOKING IN TWO DIRECTIONS

“Jesus replied,

'Watch out

That you are not deceived

For many

Will come in my name

Claiming, 'I am he,' and

'The time is near,'

Do not follow them

WHEN you hear of wars and uprisings

Do not be frightened

These things MUST happen first

But the end

Will not come right away” Luke 21:8-9

I don't know

When the end is coming

NEITHER does anyone else

ONLY the Father knows-that-

Is what Jesus told us

That is WHY

We must be prepared

To move FORWARD in faith and love

But always being mindful-for-

The SECOND COMING of Jesus

LOOKING in two directions

Preparing for the end

But moving forward

In faith and love

“Consider the blameless

Observe the upright

A future awaits those

Who seek peace” Psalm 37:37

“Since no one

Knows the future

Who can tell someone else

What is to come?” Ecclesiastes 8:7

And that is why

We need to take EACH DAY-

Each moment-

As a GIFT from God

And while we are waiting

For Jesus-we must KEEP moving forward

LOOKING IN TWO DIRECTIONS

Giving thanks for the past

And looking to the FUTURE with HOPE

Knowing nothing

Can ever separate us

From the LORD OUR GOD

“For I am convinced

That neither death nor life

NEITHER angels nor demons

Neither the present

Nor the future

Neither height-nor depth

Nor anything else-in all creation

Will be able

To separate us from the LOVE OF GOD

That is in Christ Jesus OUR LORD” Romans 8:38-39

Dear Lord-please HELP US to ENJOY TODAY

And be ready for your KINGDOM that is coming

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS HERE!

You CANNOT see it-feel it=

Or touch it=but the

KINGDOM OF GOD is here

LIVING in each one of our HEARTS

(Jesus said)=”The Kingdom of God

Is at hand=REPENT=and

BELIEVE in the GOSPEL” Mark 1:15

MANY of the readings today

Speak of REPENTANCE

God asks Jonah to PREACH repentance

To the people of Nineveh=

At first=he says NO

But the second time

He OBEYS GOD=and preaches

REPENTANCE to everyone

We too should repent in

TODAY'S WORLD=because I don't

Think=the KINGDOM of God

has ever been closer

It is HERE=in this world=

Despite the fact that we

Are NOT living like it

The KINGDOM of God

Is HERE=it is CLOSER

Than you think

“Yours Lord=is the greatness

And the power

And the GLORY=and the majesty

And the splendor

For everything in heaven

And earth

Is YOURS

Yours Lord=is the kingdom

You are EXALTED=as HEAD=

Over all” 1 Chronicles 29:11

“His KINGDOM=will be

An everlasting kingdom

And all rulers

Will WORSHIP and obey him” Daniel 7:27

“AFTER his suffering=

He presented himself

To them

And GAVE many convincing PROOFS

That he was ALIVE

OVER a period of 40 days

The kingdom of GOD is NEAR

And it will LAST

On this earth=forever=

The Lord tells us

To seek his WAYS=to live

HIS WAYS

TEACH me your ways O LORD=

LIVE forever and ever

And we will WALK the KINGDOM

Of God=here on this earth

Jesus tells us=

“The KINGDOM of God

Is at HAND”

It is NOT WAY up high

It is not way over there

IT IS HERE=it is HERE=

RIGHT here in OUR HEARTS

TEACH me your ways=O LORD

“SHOW ME your ways=Lord=

Teach me your paths” Psalm 25:4

“For your ways=

Are in FULL VIEW

Of the Lord

And he EXAMINES

Our REPENTANCE

Does NOT cause the KINGDOM

Of God to appear

Our repentance is our

JUBILANT RESPONE to God's kingdom

Already BEING HERE=

LIVING IN OUR HEARTS

INTHE LOVING PRESENCE OF GOD

We will be again

Joseph and Mary went

To Jerusalem to DEDICATE

Their child to God=

And Simeon took the child

In his arms

And GAVE THANKS to God

Simeon knew he was

In the PRESENCE

Of someone SPECIAL

And we are ALL too=

In the presence

Of someone special

Our Lord Jesus

And the Holy Father

And in the PRESENCE

Of his Holy Spirit=

In each=and every one of us

IN HIS LOVING PRESENCE

“Blessed are those

Who have learned

To acclaim you

Who walk

In the light

OF YOUR PRESENCE LORD” Psalm 89:15

“For Christ=did not enter a sanctuary

Made with human hands

That was only a copy

Of the true one-

He entered heaven itself

Now to appear for us

Another year

Is coming to an end=

What do you see

When you LOOK BACK

At the year 2020?

What EMOTIONS do

The year of 2020=

Bring back to you? What events?

Whatever they are=we spent them TOGETHER

And in

The LOVING PRESENCE=of our Lord

And we will spend 2021

With him again

OUR JOURNEY is with the Lord=

We are always

IN HIS LOVING PRESENCE

Our journey=my journey=your journey

WE TAKE TOGETHER

In the LOVING PRESENCE

Of the Lord

Simeon KNEW God was

At work in his life

And he is AT WORK

In our lives too=

We are ALIVE in the Lord

“........being confident of this

That he who began

A GOOD WORK IN YOU

Will carry it on=to completion

Until the day of Christ Jesus” Philippians 1:6

And so as we look BACK

On 2020=and forward to 2021

Let us know=

That the Lord was with us

Just as he was with Simeon

HE IS OUR LIGHT!

Jesus Came the other day=

In the MIDST=of

One of the most disastrous years ever

HE IS OUR LIGHT!=even in

The middle of darkness=ESPECIALLY

During this time of darkness

“GOD IS LIGHT=and in him

There is no darkness........” 1 John 1:5

I see Jesus LEADING US

Through the dark times=

Through the Corona virus

I see Jesus

Leading us through

The DARK TIMES of 2020

If only we would go

His way=if only we

WOULD LISTEN=

If only we would FOLLOW

The way of the Lord

As long as we SEE JESUS=

We are not lost

In the darkness=

He will show us the way-

He will keep us SAFE=

And free us from harm

HE IS OUR LIGHT!=

Our light in the darkness=

IF we are in

A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP with Jesus

Who is light=

He is the

LIGHT of the world

“And God said=

'Let there be LIGHT'

And there was LIGHT

God saw

That the light was good=

And he separated

The LIGHT

From the darkness” Genesis 1:3-4

“You Lord are my lamp-

The Lord-

By taking in the EUCHARIST

In the Lord=

And by praying

And REFLECTING

On the WORD of God=

We are better able

To STAY close to him

And to=stay AWAY from temptation

For he is OUR LIGHT=

For he is-

THE LIGHT of the world=

He REIGNS with us

Not only on Christmas-

But every single day

OF OUR LIVES

“In the same way

LET YOUR LIGHT

Shine before others=that they may see

Your good deeds-

And glorify our Father=in heaven” Matthew 5:16

“This is the verdict=

LIGHT has come

Into the world

But people loved darkness

Instead of LIGHT

Because their deeds were evil” John 3:19

Dear gracious Lord=during these

Most difficult times

HELP us to remember

That CHRIST IS OUR LIGHT=

HE IS OUR LIGHT!=

JOHN--------THE BELOVED DISCIPLE

 

JOHN---THE BELOVED DISCIPLE ( from thunder to love )

After Jesus

Called Peter and Andrew

He continued

To walk beside the Sea of Galilee

He saw another set of brothers

James and John---the sons of Zebedee

They were with their Father

When Jesus called them

And they immediately left their boat

And their Father

And followed Jesus

John is one of the 3 Apostles

Considered to be the closest to Jesus

He is the author

Of the 4^th Gospel

Three letters

And though disputed

The final book of Revelation

John was present---along with Peter and James

At the Transfiguration

And again---in the Agony of the Garden

We must remember

That John---along with the other Apostles

Had that same selfish sinful spirit

That we ALL have

John and his brother James

Once went to Jesus and asked,

“Teacher, we want you to do for us

Whatever we ask” Mark 10:35

“What do you want me to do for you,”

Jesus asks Mark 10:36

They said,

“Let one of us

Sit at your right hand

And the other at your left

In your glory” Mark 10:37

I can just picture Jesus

Rolling his eyes---looking up at the sky

And saying---“Father

This is what you give me to work with”

I know

That is what I would have done

They just didn’t get it

Until after the Resurrection

As we often

Still don’t get it today

But John did eventually---GET IT

As I am sure you and I will get it---someday

As Jesus hung there dying on the cross

He looked down

To see his precious Mother---standing beside John

“Dear woman,” he said, “here is your son”

And to John he said,

“Here is your Mother” John 19:26 & 27

From that point on

John took care of Jesus’ Mother, Mary

As if she was his very own

HOW GREAT IS THAT

In his Gospel

John teaches us

That Jesus IS the Son of God

He teaches us

That we are not only to love God

But to love one another as our neighbor

And in the letters of John

He teaches us

That God is LIFE

That God is LIGHT

And that God is LOVE

He teaches us

That true love

Will manifest itself in actions---NOT just words

He teaches us

That PERFECT LOVE drives out fear

And that the love that God has for us

Is CERTAIN and UNCONDITIONAL

And in Revelation

On the island of Patmos

John teaches us

About the ULTIMATE TRIUMPH

Of GOOD over evil

John once said,

“It is the Word of the Lord

And if you KEEP it

You do enough”

So we know

That if we TOTALLY love God

And if we TOTALLY love one another

We are like John---the Beloved Disciple

And we too---are Disciples

THE DISCIPLES WHOM JESUS LOVES

Jesus imitated us=

By COMING FROM a

Poor-middle-income family=

Just like so many of us do

He had a mother=a step-father=

And maybe some brothers and sisters=

Who knows for sure

And he had COUSINS and friends

Just like we all do=

He was a LOVING MAN

“Put on=as God's chosen ones=

Holy and beloved=heartfelt compassion

Gentleness-kindness-humility-and patience

Bearing with one another

And FORGIVING one another.......” Colossians 3:12-13

Jesus LIVED all of these qualities=

The least we can do=

IN IMITATION OF CHRIST

Is to try to live them too=

And who knows

Maybe some of us

WILL get to be SAINTS

Today we celebrate=the HOLY FAMILY=

Joseph=Mary=and Jesus

THE PERFECT FAMILY

And I want to ACKNOWLEDGE

My own beautiful family=

My mother=and father=

My two sisters=

And my extended family

Aunts and uncles

And my beautiful COUSINS

And friends=

IN IMITATION OF CHRIST

Saint Paul=who imitated Christ=once said

“Therefore I urge you

To IMITATE ME” 1 Corinthians 4:16

“We do not want you

To become lazy=

But to IMITATE those

Who through faith and patience

Inherit what has been promised” Hebrews 6:12

“Remember your leaders

Who spoke the word of God to you

Consider the outcome

Of their way of life

And IMITATE their faith” Hebrews 13:7

Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pa.

As a young man=

I always dreamed of

Having my own family=and

My own children

But that was not to be

For me=so I will PRONOUNCE

The WORD OF GOD

For as long as I am able

IN IMITATION OF CHRIST!

I also always PRAYED

That if I lived

IN THE TIME of Jesus=

I would not

Have run away-

As all the others apostles did

So I try

To LIVE the WORD OF GOD=

I try to

Live the words of Jesus

In IMITATION of Christ

I try to LIVE

The FRUITS of the SPIRIT

“But the fruit of the SPIRIT

Is love=joy=peace=forbearance= kindness=

Goodness=faithfulness=gentleness=and self-control=

Against such things=

There is no law” Galatians 5:22

I come from a

PRETTY AMAZING FAMILY=and

I know some pretty amazing families

But there is no perfect family=

LIKE THE HOLY FAMILY=

Of Jesus-Mary-and Joseph

Living in IMITATION OF CHRIST

And the HOLY FAMILY!

Today we HONOR Saint Stephen=

The first Christian martyr=

He was a TRUE MODEL

Of Jesus=and he

ACTED OUT OF LOVE

We too can GIVE

Our lives

To the cause=we too

CAN act out of love

And we don't have to do it

By dying for the cause=

We can do it

BY LIVING for the cause=

And being living martyrs=

By ACTING OUT OF LOVE

“As they were stoning Stephen=

He called out='Lord Jesus-

Receive my spirit'” Acts 7:59

Jesus and Stephen both died

BY FORGIVING

Those who were killing them

We can go THROUGH our lives

By forgiving those

Who have hurt us

I am NOT saying

To have a martyr complex=

But we can

FORGIVE those who

Have hurt us=by continuing

To LIVE our very BEST LIVES

TRUE CHRISTIAN MARTYRDOM

Is an act of love=

Both in dying

And in living

FORGIVE and continue to

Live for the cause=

Acting OUT OF LOVE=

Living out of love

“My people

Have committed two sins=

They have forsaken me-

The spring of LIVING WATER

And have dug their

Own cisterns=That cannot hold water” Jeremiah 2:13

“But about the resurrection-

Of the dead=have you not read

What God has said to you

'I am=the God of Abraham=

the God of Isaac=and the God of Jacob?

He is not

The God of the dead

But of the LIVING'” Matthew 21:31-32

We can speak up

For God=where we are

In this world

We can be SPOKES PEOPLE

For God=in this world

We can live

By ACTING OUT OF LOVE

By PROMOTING LOVE

In this world

Just like Jesus and SAINT STEPHEN=

With their entire lives=

IN LIFE and in death

ACTING OUT OF LOVE!

Praising God with our lives

“He put a new song

In my mouth=

A HYMN OF PRAISE

To our God

Many will see

And fear the Lord

And put their trust in him” Psalm 40:3

Today=SEARCH YOUR HEART

For love for God=and

Sing a NEW SONG

And ACT WITH LOVE

For our LORD

CHRISTMAS EVE AT THE WALLMANS

 

DECEMBER 24, 2012

CHRISTMAS EVE AT THE WALLMANS

From the time we lived at Massachusetts Avenue (1-31-63 to 11-30-98)

We always had the greatest Christmas Eves

Thanks to my mother and father

As a young boy-my two sisters and I-would be surprised

When the elves came

The elves would always bring us pajamas and slippers

My dad would sometimes be cussing

I didn’t know what it was about at the time-but as I got older

I came to understand that he was usually trying to put something

Together ( ie. a bike for my sisters or me )

Often times-we would go to midnight Mass

Except my father-who would sneak off to bed

Even when we had a houseful

And that is what I remember most, the “HOUSEFULS”

We always had an Open House on Christmas Eve

My friends-my sisters’ friends-and even some of my father’s and mother’s friends

Would show up-down through the years

Sometimes-some of our relatives would be there too

If they were just looking to have some fun

It would usually start with Rick and Patty coming after 6:00or 7:00 pm Mass

And as they got older-they would show up with their children-Samantha and Tim

They even came one year less than a week after Timmy was born

Also showing up were Rich and Betty Ann (when they were still married)

And their beautiful daughter Bridget

And Ed and Debbie and their daughter-Samantha

Ray and Arlene and their family

And many other family and friends

Most of it-was just clean fun

But we did have our own version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”

And “Pup” singing C is for the Christ child

I will always remember Pup

He died in 1979 in a motorcycle accident

He always carried a “magnum” gun with him everywhere he went

When he came into our house on Christmas Eve

He would take them out and give them to me at the door

And after my cousin, Donny, got divorced

We had our own version of “Same Time-Nest Year”

With him and Rooster

What wonderful memories I have of “CHRISTMAS EVE AT THE WALLMANS”

And when we moved in 1998-my mother wrote the following poem

As we turn out the lights and

Lock the door of this old house

Not a creature is stirring

Not even the proverbial mouse.

Hush! Quiet and silence. Can you believe!!!

Any day of the year, but Christmas Eve!!!

Now we REALLY KNOW it’s time to go

But before we do, we want you to know

Through the love and the joy, the laughter & tears

That you have imparted, you have enriched

Our lives all these past 36 years.

If these walls could talk, what tales they would tell

No need, however, we remember them well.

For caring and sharing and just being there

Our love, thanks and warmest wishes for a

Happy New Year.

SHINES IN the darkness

Even in the miserable year of 2020

Who among us hasn't felt

A little GLOOM

Over at least one Christmas

There are all kinds of things

To bring us down=

Family conflicts=personal illness=

Loneliness due to the

ABSENCE of loved ones=

And annoying disruptions

Of our plans

And 2020 has been

A year UNLIKE any other=

With all kinds of DISRUPTIONS

To our life

But the light of love

The LIGHT OF THE WORLD=

Is still here

Choose to share the

LIGHT OF Christ

This Christmas day=

Choose to share

The light of love

THIS CHRISTMAS DAY!

When gloom comes at us-

Let us realize that

We carry=

The ETERNAL LIGHT within us

Let us SHARE

THE LIGHT OF GOD'S LOVE!

“Nevertheless the one

Who receives instruction

In the word

Should SHARE-all good things

With their instructor” Galatians 6:6

“Anyone who has been stealing

Must steal no longer

But must work

Doing something-

Useful with their own hands

That they may have something

TO SHARE

With those in need” Ephesians 4:28

So IF your world

Is gray today=

Keep the STRONG FAITH

And let the LIGHT

Of the world=shine through you

BE FILLED with gratitude

The Holy One

Loves us so much

That the beloved SON

Was birthed

To share that love

Today we can SHARE THE LIGHT

With the gift

Of our loving presence

With generous kindness-

A helping hand

And with a ready smile-

A listening ear

And a loving heart

Today=the canticle of Zechariah

Calls our attention

To God's DIRECT INTERVENTION

In our lives

God called to Zechariah

And brought him his son John

WHEN it looked like=

He could never

Have a child

With his wife-Elizabeth

TENDERLY=God comes to us

And embraces us=

God comes to us

During Christmas season

And ALL YEAR LONG!

And our God remains with us

All year long!

“A thousand YEARS

In your sight

Are like a day

That has just one by

Or like a watch

In the night” Psalm 90:4

“But do not forget

This one thing

With the Lord

A day is like

A THOUSAND YEARS

And a thousand YEARS

Are like a day” 2 Peter 3:8

“He seized the dragon

That ancient serpent=

Who is the devil=or Satan

And bound him

We have WAITED all year long

For the COMING of our Jesus=

We have prepared

All through ADVENT

We await the coming of Christ=

And his INTERVENTION

Zechariah's voice

Bursts with POETIC PRAISE

And gratitude=He reminds us

Of our own role

In PROCLAIMING the

Good news of God and Christ=

And to tell the world

ALL YEAR LONG!

We may walk in darkness

But Christ is the LIGHT=

So we are never alone

ALL YEAR LONG!

“If you REMAIN in me

And my words

REMAIN in you

Ask whatever you wish

And it will be

Done for you” John 15:7

CHRISTMAS DAY

Comes but once a year

But our Lord

Remains with us-

Guiding us towards peace

In everything that we do

ALL YEAR LONG!

RESPONDING WITH KINDNESS

ONE THING I have noticed

In life=or at least I think

A person's INNER WORLD IS

NOT so very different than

A person's outer world

“By their fruits

You will KNOW them” Matthew 7:16

YES=maybe that person

That is so cranky and

JUDGMENTAL on the outside

Is the way they are

To THEMSELVES on the inside too

I TRY to keep that in mind

WHEN I see someone

Who is ALWAYS so hypercritical

Of others=and those who

Are always EXPECTING

The most negative of outcomes

THESE are NOT the attributes

Of a peaceful soul

MAYBE=they just NEED a

LITTLE LOVE=maybe they need someone

To RESPOND to them-with

Just a little bit of KINDNESS

“BUT while Joseph

Was there in prison

The Lord was with him

He showed him KINDNESS

And granted him FAVOR

In the eyes of the

PRISON WARDEN” Genesis 39:20-21

“In a surge of anger

I hid my face

FROM you for a moment

But with EVERLASTING KINDNESS

I will have COMPASSION on your

Says the LORD

Your REDEEMER” Isaiah 54:8

These KINDS of people

I believe=are as hypercritical

Of themselves=as they are

Of others

They are UNABLE to

BE compassionate-or even

Forgive themselves

They are UNHAPPY SOULS=

They are NOT able

To be at peace=for

Even ONE moment

IF I can recognize this

In someone=I TRY to

RESPOND IN KINDNESS=respond

With some COMPASSION for them

“CONSIDER therefore

The KINDNESS and sternness

Of God

Sternness to those who fell

But KINDNESS to you

Provided that you

CONTINUE in his kindness” Romans 11:22

“But when the KINDNESS

And LOVE of God

Our Savior APPEARED

He SAVED us-

NOT because of righteous things

We had done

But because of his MERCY” Titus 3:4

And that is what we

Should have-

For these TYPES of people=

MERCY

Dear Lord=WE PRAY=that

We RESPOND with KINDNESS

And COMPASSION=

To those who are suffering

So that they CAN FIND peace

And MERCY for their suffering souls

Things are TOUGH

In our lives right now=

But God has a BIGGER PLAN

For each=

And all of our INDIVIDUAL LIVES

Has done great things for me........” Luke 1:49

Today we pray

OVER the proclamation

Of Mary and her PRAISE

She reflects on God's gracious

And generous action

In her life

We should all do this=

For God the HOLY FATHER

Takes an ACTIVE ROLE

In every one

Of our lives

THREADS OF A BIGGER PLAN=

God has a big plan=

For each and every

ONE OF US

“Do not those-

Who plot evil-go astray?

But those who PLAN

What is good

Find love

And faithfulness” Proverbs 14:22

“But the NOBLE

Make noble PLANS

And by noble deeds

They stand” Isaiah 32:8

“In him-

We are also chosen

Having been predestined

According to the PLAN

Of him

Who works out everything

In conformity=with the purpose

Of his will” Ephesians 1:11

Mary REALIZED

That it is God

Who singled her out

As a servant

She realized that she

IS part of a BIGGER PLAN

By God the Father

THREADS OF A BIGGER PLAN!

Mary realizes

That it is God

Who LIFTS up the lowly

That it is God

Who provides for the hungry

And comes to

HELP his chosen people

We are all

CHOSEN BY GOD!

“For many are invited=

But few ARE CHOSEN” Matthew 22:14

“As it is

You do not

Belong to the world

But I have CHOSEN YOU

Out of the world=

That is why

The world hates you” John 15:19

HINDSIGHT is always 20/20-

But God has a BIGGER PLAN=

May we all REFLECT

On the events

Of our own lives

May we DISCOVER

That in the midst

Of our disappointments and joys=

Like Mary

God is AT WORK in us-

And DELIBERATELY weaving our lives

Into something special

Like our Mary=

We are part of

LET GOD TAKE THE LEAD

 

LET GOD TAKE THE LEAD

Have you ever come

To the end one the one year-

And the beginning of a new?

Or decided you are

Going to be a NEW AND IMPROVED

Version of yourself

In some area of your life

It isn't easy to see it through

It isn't easy to be an all new and improved

Version of ourself

That's WHEN we need God

To help us-and LEAD the way

And he won't let us down

Let God TAKE THE LEAD

In your life and follow closely

“I will sprinkle CLEAN WATER

Upon you to cleanse you........

And PLACE a new spirit within you

Taking from your bodies

Your stony hearts

And giving you NATURAL HEARTS” Ezekiel 36:25-26

“CREATE in me a PURE heart-

O God

And RENEW a steadfast spirit

Within me” Psalm 51:10

When I was younger and healthier

And could play sports

I always tried to improve

These days

I cannot do that

But I try EVERY DAY

To renew my spirit=to get CLOSER

To God

To try and be the best person

That I can be

But I have to tell you

I CANNOT do it alone

I let God=I let Jesus=

TAKE the lead-and I follow

As close as humanly possible

(at least I try to)

Why not

Let God take the lead

In your life too?

Let him CARRY THE BURDENS

Of your life

“EVEN to your old age

And gray hairs

I am he

I am he

Who will SUSTAIN YOU

I have made you

I will carry you

I will sustain you

And I will RESCUE YOU” Isaiah 46:4

“CARRY each others burdens

And in this way

You will FULFILL the law of Christ” Galatians 6:2

YES let God take the lead-

HELP HIM help others

Carry their burdens

If you are strong

And instead of trying to FIX yourself up

Maybe it is a good time

To let God fix you too

To let God and Jesus

FIX your defective parts

For I know=as much as I/we don't want to admit it

We ALL have them

Let us go in

For an EXTREME MAKEOVER by God

And let him fix us up

I know with me

He will have his hands full

How about with you?

Let us

LET GOD TAKE THE LEAD

Dear Lord=transform me-transform us

Into whatever you want us to be

“Do NOT conform

To the pattern of this world

But be TRANSFORMED

By the RENEWING of your mind

Then you will be able to test

And approve what God's will is

-HIS good-pleasing-and PERFECT WILL” Romans 12:2

I think REAL CHANGE

REQUIRES total effort and TOTAL SURRENDER

To God

We acknowledge

Dear Lord=WITH YOU

AS MY SHIELD=I=we

As we go through life=

We are vulnerable

In certain areas

I have been fighting

A LIFE-LONG intestinal illness=

But I can still go on-

I can still MOVE FORWARD

Because the Lord

IS MY SHIELD

What are you LIVING WITH?

What are you fighting through?

HOW is the Lord

YOUR SHIELD?

“The Lord

Is my strength

AND MY SHIELD

Trusts in him=

What a GRACE it is

To have Mary=with us

During these times

What a grace it is

To have MARY'S LOVING CARE

For us= each and every day

Christmas is just

FIVE days away=we

Need NOT be AFRAID =

We need to live

With the grace of Mary

With us=

This Christmas season

THE LORD IS WITH US!=

The GRACE of Mary

Is with us

WITH GRACE=

“But the gift

HELP us to know

That the LORD IS STILL WITH US!

It has been a TOUGH YEAR=

For so many reasons

And this election=I can't HELP

But feel that=

GOD is moving us=

As a people=

To bring us TOGETHER

Once and FOR ALL

We are BEING TOUCHED and

The HAND OF GOD!

And named him Samson

The boy grew up

And the Lord blessed him=

The Spirit of the Lord

STIRRED HIM” Judges 13:24

Wouldn't it be GREAT

To have as much strength

As Samson=

Oh but we can=

Just NOT physical strength

But EMOTIONAL and SPIRITUAL STRENGTH=

Touched by

The HAND OF GOD

Samson was “stirred”

By the Lord

A REMINDER that

We are all

TOUCHED AND MOVED

By the hand of God

“Saul also went

To his home in Gibeah

Accompanied by valiant men

Whose hearts=

GOD HAD TOUCHED” 1 Samuel 10:26

“People brought

All their sick to him

And begged him

To let their sick

Just TOUCH the edge

Of his cloak

And all who TOUCHED IT

'Do not handle!-

Do not taste!-

WHEN we are touched

And moved by God

We can HEAR beautiful music=

To the darkness

We will be MOVED

By the Holy Spirit=

By the GOD OF LIFE

OUR SOURCE OF LOVE!

The greatest thing

That we CAN ever

HOPE to be in life

IS PERFECT LOVE

But it is unlikely=IMPOSSIBLE=

For us to ever get there

For there is ONLY

One man-God who ever

Made it

And that is OUR LORD

And Savior Jesus Christ=

OUR SOURCE OF LOVE!

“Whoever loves God

MUST also love his brother” 1 John 4:21

We must love God

As our total self=and we must LOVE

Our brothers and sisters=the same way

With that PERFECT LOVE

We CANNOT be good Christians

And still love God

IF we carry grudges-if we

Pass judgments=if we

WITHHOLD forgiveness=or if we

Gossip-slander-and withhold

OUR resources and affections

There is ONLY ONE SOURCE

OF LOVE=God our FATHER

As well as Jesus himself

Who was sent=IN PERFECT LOVE

Who was sent to FORGIVE us

Who was SENT to ransom us

From our sins

OUR SOURCE OF PERFECT LOVE!

“Son though he was

He learned obedience

From what he SUFFERED

And once made PERFECT

He became THE SOURCE

Of eternal salvation

For all who obey him

And was designated by God

To be high priest

In the order

Of Melchizedek” Hebrews 5:8-9

“For God so LOVED

The world

That he gave

His ONE AND ONLY SON

That whoever

Believes in him

Shall NOT perish

But have ETERNAL LIFE” John 3:16

OUR SOURCE OF LOVE=the Father=

By giving us HIS ONE & ONLY Son

We ONLY know how to LOVE

OVER the place

But God's LOVE IS PERFECT

It is UNCONDITIONAL

ALWAYS THERE for us

Are FAMILIAR=we name

Our children after them

But many of the other names

Are very obscure

(Abijah-Uzziah-Zerubbabel)

And Jesus had some skeletons

In the CLOSET of his family=

Just like we ALL DO

Jacob was a conniver=

Tamar seduced her father-in-law=

Rahab was a prostitute=

David and Bathsheba were adulterers=

And Ahaz=

Was a wicked king

But Jesus is our BROTHER=

The SON OF GOD-

He is In our family

That makes us royalty

“If you really keep

The ROYAL LAW=

Found in Scripture

'Love your neighbor

As yourself''

You are doing right” James 2:8

“But you are

A chosen people=

A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD

A holy nation-

God's special possession

That you may declare

The praises of him

Who called you out of darkness

We are Jesus' brothers=

We are MEMBERS

OF HIS FAMILY=

We are sons

And daughters of God

The HOLY FATHER

When Jesus became

A human being

Jesus=like his mother Mary=

And his step-father Joseph

Lived in the REAL WORLD=

Just like us

In the real world=

They are

LIKE the woman with the hemorrhage

Jesus-he TOUCHES us-

He gives us HEALING

Oh that TOUCH of Jesus

Oh how he can HEAL us

If we just have

HAVE a little bit of FAITH

One day=it=the HEALING

Will be ours=with

A little bit of faith

“A wicked messenger

Falls into trouble

But a TRUSTWORTHY envoy

BRINGS HEALING” Proverbs 13:17

“Then your light

Will BREAK forth

Like the dawn

And your HEALING

Will quickly appear

Then your righteousness

Will be before you

And the GLORY of the Lord

One day-the healing-

WILL BE OURS

With a little patience

And a lot of FAITH

Proclaiming the good news

Jesus touches us-and he

TOUCHES others

And they touch us and we

Touch the others

In this way

Healing is DONE

In God's words

And they ARE spread about

And the HEALING TOUCH of God

IS SPREAD to us

And touches us

TOUCH US God-heal us-put

The healing touch

In EVERY ONE of us

That healing touch of God

Just the SAME WAY-one day-IT

The HEALING-

WILL BE OURS

We are to live CONFIDENTLY-

And in PEACE

Convinced-that one day-the HEALING

Will be truly ours too

Physical healing-spiritual healing-

Emotional healing-ALL types of healing

And whatever we need

TODAY-we affirm-whatever ailments

We have-will be healed-

Through the POWER and DIVINE LIFE

Of Christ

YES-one day-with CONTINUED FAITH-

THE HEALING WILL BE OURS

THE LORD WILL HEAR US!

 

THE LORD WILL HEAR US!

Do you BELIEVE

GOD HEARS PRAYERS?

That God hears

The CRY of the poor?

I DO!=I believe he does

And his ANSWERS are

Yes=no=and NOT RIGHT NOW=

But he hears everything-

We offer up to him

“The Lord confronts

The evildoers

To destroy remembrance of them

From the earth=

When the just cry out

The LORD HEARS THEM

And from all their distress

He rescues them” Psalm 34:17-18

Even though-

We might not think it=

The Lord does

Hear our cries

He knows

All of the INJUSTICES

We encounter in this life

The Lord

WILL HEAR US!

“HEAR O Israel

The Lord our God

The Lord is ONE” Deuteronomy 6:4

“........if my people

Who have called me

By name

Will humble themselves

And pray=and seek my face

And turn

From their wicked ways=

Then I will

HEAR FROM HEAVEN

And I will forgive

Their sin

And will heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14

“Whoever has ears

LET THEM HEAR” Matthew 11:15

The Lord has ears=

He HEARS

All of our pleas and cries

And he hears everything

We offer up to him

WHEN we are striving

To live as whole-hearted

Disciples of God

Sometimes we are even

ASKED to die for our FAITH=

Or LIVE for our faith

And bear WITNESS

To the truth

Of God and Jesus

Sometimes we are

Ridiculed or criticized

For our faith=but we

Have to HOLD FAST

To our Christian principles

We have to HEAR

And respond to others

Just like our God and Jesus

Respond to=and HEAR OUR PRAYERS

The God who hears us=

The Lord who ANSWERS PRAYERS

The Lord who LOVES us all

“Very truly I tell you-

Whoever HEARS MY WORD

And believes him

Who sent me

Has eternal life

And will not be judged=

But has crossed over

From death to life” John 5:24

We WILL BE HEARD

We will be rescued=

We will live forever

In Christ Jesus

So live FOREVER in God=

He is the God=THE LORD

WHO HEARS US!

LIVING WITH A SINCERE HEART

 

WITH A SINCERE HEART

One of the BEST COMPLIMENTS=

I ever received=

Was from a local PASTOR=

A number of years ago

He said to me=

“You are the MOST SINCERE person

I have ever met”

What a great compliment=after all

Who had a more sincere heart

Than Jesus=NO ONE

He always did

What he said

''By what authority

Are you doing these things?” Matthew 21:23

The RELIGIOUS=at the time

Of Jesus=looked down

Upon him

In today's GOSPEL=

The chief priest and leaders

TRY to put Jesus

In a corner

But Jesus TURNED the tables

On them=and puts them

On the SPOT

Their question-

Was a TRAP=

But they were the ones

CAUGHT in it

You just can't trap Jesus=

He lives with a SINCERE HEART

“Love must be SINCERE=

Hate what is evil-

Cling to what is good

Be devoted

To ONE ANOTHER in love=

Honor one another=above yourselves” Romans 12:9

“........let us draw near to God

WITH A SINCERE HEART

And with the full assurance

That faith brings

Having our hearts sprinkled

To cleanse us

From a guilty conscience

And having our bodies washed

With pure water” Hebrews 10:20

The religious of Jesus' day

WERE BLIND-

To the heavenly source

Of the teachings

Of both John and Jesus

Jesus tells them

That BOTH tax collectors

And prostitutes

Have RESPONDED to the

Call of God=much BEFORE

The learned and the powerful

Being clean=and living

With a SINCERE HEART=

BEING HONEST

“Create in me

A pure HEART=oh God

And renew a steadfast spirit

Within me” Psalm 51:10

“Trust in the Lord

With all YOUR HEART

And lean not

On your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5

“Now that you have

Purified yourselves

By obeying the truth

So that you

HAVE SINCERE LOVE

For each other

Love one another deeply

FROM THE HEART” 1 Peter 1:22

There is a LESSON here

For all of us

Don't try debating points

But RESPOND

WITH SINCERITY=and humility

Of the heart

And gifts of the HOLY SPIRIT

FINDING DIVINE FAVOR!

 

FINDING DIVINE FAVOR!

IMAGINE this=

You live in a small town

In a small country

You are a YOUNG teenage girl=

DREAMING of a husband and children=

Living a long-quiet life

Then one day=AN ANGEL

Appears to you and tells you=

You will be with child=

The MOTHER OF GOD

“Then the ANGEL said to her=

'Do NOT be afraid=Mary=

For you have FOUND FAVOR

With God'” Luke 1:30

How great is that?

But what would we do=

IF we found DIVINE FAVOR with God?

Finding favor=FINDING DIVINE FAVOR with God

“May the FAVOR-

Of the Lord our God

Rest on us=

Establish the work

Of our hands

For us--------

Yes=establish the work

Of our hands” Psalm 90:17

“The lips of the righteous

Know what FINDS FAVOR=

But the mouth

Of the wicked

Only what is perverse” Proverbs 10:32

“........to proclaim

The year of the LORD'S FAVOR

And the day of vengeance

To our God=to comfort

All who mourn” Isaiah 61:2

God had a PLAN

For Mary's life=

He sent a message to her

Through an ANGEL

That she would give birth

To a child named Jesus=

And she said YES

How about us?

Do we say yes to

God's PLANS for our life?

Mary was afraid

But she said YES

Because of ONE basic FACT

The angel told her

She had FOUND DIVINE FAVOR

With God

“Glory to God

In the highest heaven

And on earth=peace

To those on whom

HIS FAVOR RESTS” Luke 2:14

“All of you=clothe yourselves

With humility=toward one another=because

'God opposes the proud=

AND SHOWS FAVOR

To the humble'” 1 Peter 5:5

Just imagine the BLESSING

That God gave to Mary=but

It did NOT SHIELD her

From sorrow and pain

And it won't shield us either

But we can BE like Mary

And FIND DIVINE FAVOR with God

By following his plan=

For our lives

ONLY God can give us

The favor and the gifts

That we need=in this life

In Jesus' name=and in the name=of our ever LIFE-GIVING FATHER

ANY TIME=ANY PLACE

There is NO perfect time=

Or perfect place for PRAYER

IF we learned anything

From Jesus=we should

Have learned that=HE PRAYED

When the Spirit

Called upon him

TODAY we read about=

When Peter is PRAYING=and

He had a vision

About what to TEACH

“I was at PRAYER........

When in a trance-

I had a VISION........” Acts 11:5

And I am SURE Jesus

Received many of his parables=

Much of his knowledge=

From the Father-

IN PRAYER

He had the most INNOVATIVE IDEAS-

Of how to TEACH US

And he could do it

ANY TIME=any place

The same way=

He prayed to the FATHER

He had the SPIRIT of God

In him-at all times

We can pray while WALKING=

While running-or

Watching television

We never know WHEN our

INTERIOR SPIRIT=when the

Spirit of God

Might break through

“WHERE can I go

From your SPIRIT?

Where I can flee

From your presence?” Psalm 139:7

“The SPIRIT of the Lord

Will rest on him---------

The Spirit of wisdom

And understanding

The Spirit of counsel

And of might=

The Spirit of the knowledge

And=fear

Of the Lord” Isaiah 11:2

Yes=the SPIRIT of God=

The Spirit of prayer

Can break through

INTO US=at any time

At ANY PLACE

You never know

When God has something

He wants to SAY to you

Or in some cases=like

With Jesus=to say

TO THE WORLD

PRAYER can break through

Into us any time=any place=

THE SPIRIT OF PRAYER

God is always NEAR and

Prayer is just

A MOMENT AWAY

“My TIMES

Are in your hands

Deliver me

From the hands

Of my enemies

From those who pursue me” Psalm 31:15

“He said to them=

'It is NOT for you

To know the TIMES

Or dates=the Father

Has set by his

Own authority

But you will

Receive power when the

HOLY SPIRIT comes on you........'” Acts 1:7-8

And PRAYER will break through

Into us=ANY TIME-ANY PLACE

When the Father

Lets the SPIRIT=touch

OUR SOULS

Seven operations

Living chronically in pain

From day to day

I am just a broken down person

Living among

A lot of broken down people

Trying to live in

A broken down world

So I’ve been broken physically

Broken financially

I have had many relationships

That I couldn’t save

Both family and friends

No matter how hard that I tried

Broken down people

Broken in every way

I am just one of you

LETTING GO AND BEING FAITHFUL

Wouldn't you just like

To LET GO of the

World right now=And this

Corona virus and all of

This crazy mixed up world?

I would=LET IT ALL GO=

And HOLD ON to God=hold on

To Jesus=

HOLD ON TO BEING FAITHFUL!

“If you would hearken to

My commandments=

Your prosperity-

Would be like a river

And YOUR VINDICATION

Like the waves

Of the sea” Isaiah 48:18

The IMAGES of nature-

Help us to see

How to submit=

And LET GO

And to ACCEPT what is

And stay=FAITHFUL TO GOD

And Jesus

Like the flow

Of the river=

We can be open

To the forces

Beyond our control

We can be open

TO REMAIN FAITHFUL

To our God and Jesus

BEING FAITHFUL=remaining faithful

Yet letting go of

THIS CRAZY MIXED UP WORLD

Yes let us remain humble

In the midst of

GOD'S POWER AND STRENGTH

“Love the Lord

All HIS FAITHFUL PEOPLE

The Lord preserves those

Who are true to him=

But the proud

He pays back in full” Psalm 31:23

“She speaks with wisdom

And FAITHFUL INSTRUCTION=

Is on her tongue” Proverbs 31:26

“His master replied=

'Well done-good and FAITHFUL SERVANT!

You have been FAITHFUL

With a few things=

I will put you=in charge

Of many things=

Come and share=Your master's happiness!'” Matthew 25:21

What a good thing

It would be

If we could LET GO right now=

If we could live

In God's KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

We are all GOD'S CHILDREN=

Now would be a good time-

For many of us

To START living like it

To learn to submit to

And LIVE in God's world

Let us live a FAITHFUL LIFE==

Faithful to God and Jesus

“But Christ is FAITHFUL

As the SON-

Over God's house

And we are his house-

If indeed=we hold firmly

To our confidence

And the hope

In which we glory” Hebrews 3:6

NOW is a good time

To TURN to God

And let him=

Provide for our needs

And offer our lives=as we

REMAIN FOREVER FAITHFUL!
