How do we live the truth? IT sounds so easy-Just by LOVING GOD and by LOVING OUR
neighbors as our selves
NOT so easy to keep loving those SAME people who continue to ignore us or TREAT us with contempt
day after day
NEVERTHELESS-the more we concentrate on LOVE-the closer we get to GOD'S LOVING LIGHT
it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE and Light for us

In the 22nd chapter
Of Saint Luke’s Gospel
A young lawyer
Asks Jesus
Which is the greatest commandment
Jesus answers
Love God
With all your heart
With all your soul
And with all your mind
And to love your neighbor
As yourself
And why
Should we do this
We should love God
Because not only did Jesus
Tell us to do so
But because
We are all children of God
And God is living
In each and every one of us
And each and every one of us
Is special
Because each and every one of us
Are unique
With our own set of abilities and talents
No two of us
Are alike
It is interesting
That in the story
Of the “good” samaritan
Everyone is named
Except the man
Lying by the side of the road
And the reason
This man is not named
Is because
It does not matter
We are
To love everyone

JOURNAL/ENDURANCE.....THE LONG HAUL
Jesus said, "And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert-SO MUST the Son of Man
be lifted up-so that everyone WHO believes in him-may have ETERNAL LIFE" John 3: 14-15
This is clearly a REFERENCE to Numbers 2:19 where WHEN Moses holds up a bronze serpent on a pole-
and anyone bitten by a snake who looks at the statue is CURED
Similarly-TODAY-when we LOOK up at Jesus on the cross and UNITE our lives and crosses with him-
we too have the HOPE of physical healing-bit MORE importantly the HOPE of ETERNAL LIFE with him
it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in today's world and to EXPERIENCE GOD'S LOVE for us!

Saint Catherine of Siena/TODAY'S SAINT
SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA
Catherine lived
From 1337 to 1380
She was
The youngest of 20 children
And from an early age
Was devoted to a life
Of penance and prayer-despite parental opposition
She refused
To consider marriage
And became a Dominican tertiary
She began to mix with other people
And began to nurse the sick-in hospitals
Along with her disciples
Which included both men and women
She taught many to reform
Through a TOTAL love of God
She never learned to write
But wrote 383 letters
Expressing her philosophy
Through dictation
Her holiness
Was centered on Christ’s crucifixion
And she saw this
As the SUPREME love of God-for man
She received much criticism
Especially during the last 5 years
Of her life
When she became involved
In the politics
Of both state and church
She suffered a stroke
On April 21st 1380
And died 8 days later
Her life story
Was written by Raymond Caputa
Her friend-and later
Master General of the Dominican order
This led
To her canonization in 1461
With the quality of her writings
And her membership
In the Dominican order
Bringing her much support
She became a figure
Of international importance and influence
Became Siena ‘s principal Saint ( along with Bernard of Siena )
And was believed to be responsible
For bringing the papacy
Back to Rome
Her common emblem
Is the lily
And she was declared
A Doctor of the church-in 1970

He was born Karol Jozef Wojtyla
On May 18th, 1920
In Wadowice, the Republic of Poland
He was Pope
Of the Catholic Church
From 1978
Until his death in 2005
He was the second longest
Serving pope in history
And the first
Non-Italian pope since 1523
He was
A very charismatic figure
And acclaimed
As one of the
Most influential leaders of the 20th century
He was instrumental
In ending communism
Both in Poland
And eventually all of Europe
He was
A widely traveled world leader
And visited 129 countries
During his pontificate
He has
A special emphasis
On a universal call to holiness
Beatified 1.340 people
And canonized 483 saints
Today
He himself-is beatified
He named
Most of the present college of cardinals
Consecrated a large number of bishops
And ordained many priests
A key goal
Of his papacy
Was to transform
And reposition the Catholic Church
His goal was:
“To place his church
At the heart of a new religious alliance
That would bring together Jews, Muslims, and Christians
In a great religious armada”

JOURNAL/BEING BORN AGAIN!
"UNLESS one is BORN of water and SPIRIT-he cannot enter the KINGDOM OF GOD-WHAT
is BORN of flesh is flesh and what s born of spirit is spirit" John 3:5-6
MANY of us-like me-were BAPTIZED as infants-and FEEL a need to be BAPTIZED again as adults
WE can RELIVE our BAPTISM over and over again at MASS or at CHRISTIAN SERVICE-
OUR rituals make spiritual realities VISIBLE and reminds us that BEING BORN AGAIN is a
DAILY PROMISE we make to GOD every day
It is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to LOVE GOD
and others around us right back-LOVE YOU ALL!
BEING BORN AGAIN
Being born again
Can mean many things
But FOR US
It means having a SPIRITUAL REBIRTH
Or conversion
It is
A recommitment to God
And it is a NECESSITY
In the third chapter
Of Saint John’s Gospel
Jesus tells Nicodemus
A member of the Jewish ruling council
“I tell you the truth
No one can see the kingdom
Of God
Unless he is born again” John 3:3
And I believe
Jesus himself was BORN AGAIN
Or at least
As a SYMBOL to us
He let John-his cousin
Baptize him
“Jesus arrived from Galilee
And came to John
At the river of Jordan
To be baptized
As soon as
Jesus was baptized
He came up out of the water
Then heaven was opened to him
And he saw the SPIRIT OF GOD
Coming down
Like a dove
And lighting on him
Then a voice
From heaven said:
‘THIS is my own dear Son
With whom I am well pleased’” Matthew 3:13-17
Jesus-BORN of the SPIRIT
NOT the flesh
Our leader
Whom we try to follow
If Jesus can be BORN OF THE SPIRIT
Then that
Is to be our CALLING too
I was baptized
As an infant in the Catholic Church
And have recommitted to God
Over and over again
And I have committed myself
To God
In the Baptist, the Protestant, and the Willow Creek church
As well as repeating my vowels in the Catholic church
For we are to be ONE IN THE SPIRIT
NOT the flesh
The Holy Spirit
Is the third person of the TRINITY
And is KNOWN as the COUNSELOR
Who is ACTIVE
In the lives of BELIEVERS
The road to the SPIRIT
Is different for ALL OF US
But ONE thing remains the same
It is the RECOMMITTMENT
To living a life
Following God
Instead of following earthly things
“Commit your ways to the Lord
TRUST in him
And he will do this:
He will make your righteousness
SHINE like the dawn
The justice of your cause
LIKE the noonday sun” Psalm 37:5-6

And it is UP TO US to bring CHRIST'S SPIRIT ALIVE in this world

TODAY is DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY- a CELEBRATION of the extension of GOD'S LOVE a nd
MERCY for ALL of us
It is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE and MERCY for ALL!

LOVE YOU ALL
A CLOSER WALK WITH GOD
As Christians
One of the things
We are to do
Is WALK with God
And in our journey
Through life
We are to walk
TOFETHER with God
But HOW
Do we do this
Certainly by obeying
The TWO greatest commandments
“Jesus said to him
'Thou shalt
Love the Lord Thy God
With all thy heart
With all thy soul
And with all thy mind'” Matthew 22:37
“'And the second IS like it
Thou shalt love thy neighbor
As thyself'” Matthew 22:39
And if you want
A CLOSER walk with God
TRY embodying
SOME
Of the qualities
That Jesus himself had
Namely forgiveness and MERCY
For our brothers and sisters
Of this world
Who make mistakes
In John chapter 8
We READ about the adulterous woman
Caught in the midst of adultery
THEY-trying to trick Jesus-say
Moses' law-says
SUCH WOMAN SHOULD BE STONED
Jesus-PRETENDING-not to hear them-
Begins to write their sins
On the ground
And says
“HE that is without sin
Cast the first stone” John 8:7
ONE-by-one
CONVICTED by their own conscience
They all walk away
And Jesus says to her
“Woman-where are they?
Has NO ONE condemned you?”
“No one sir,” she says
Sweetly-softly-and gently-Jesus says
“Neither do I condemn you” John 8:10-12
Wouldn't it be GREAT
IF more of us
Adopted Jesus' attitude
In today's world
If we did
One by one
EVERY one of us
Would slowly walk away
A CLOSER WALK WITH GOD

JUDGE your brother
Or why
Do you look down
On your brother
For WE ALL
Stand before
God's judgment seat” Romans 14:10

JOURNAL/REJECTION---THE CORNERSTONE
"MY STRENGTH and courage is the Lord
AND he has been MY SAVIOR" Psalm 118:14
On a dark gray Friday afternoon-Jesus conquered darkness and death-WE TOO face much darkness
on our journey:
Sickness-anxiety-personal conflicts-bereavement-etc.-but even as the problems continue-we must
soldier on and attempt to UNITE our lives with Jesus to cry out VICTORY
What is comforting is that Jesus WALKS beside us and gives us HIS LOVE as he LEADS the way
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in this comforting LOVE that GOD GIVES US every day
REJECTION-THE CORNERSTONE
Have you ever been rejected
Totally shot down by another person
Or a group of people
That you wanted to be a part of
Shunned-excluded
It doesn’t feel very good
DOES IT
I would venture to say
That each and everyone of us
Have been rejected
By someone that we wanted to include us
In their life-in some way
Well that
Is what happened to OUR LORD
He came
To love the people of his day
And he was rejected publicly
And, in addition, tortured and humiliated
Our Lord knew
He was going to be rejected
For we find
A foreshadowing in the old testament
Which he knew intimately
“The stone the builders rejected
Is now the cornerstone” Psalm 118:22
“He was despised and rejected by men
A man of sorrows-and familiar with suffering
Like one
From whom men hide their faces
He was despised
And we esteemed him not” Isaiah 53:3
Know this
Our Lord CHOSE to love us anyway
And his rejection
Has become the salvation for 1 billion people
Who call themselves Christians
God and Christianity
Are under attack by the secular world today
Our Lord and Savior-sometimes I feel
Are being put to death all over again
I urge-those who believe
To KEEP ON BELIEVING
To KEEP ON LOVING
To KEEP ON FORGIVING
Despite the little acts of treason
And rejection
That we all feel
For in 2 Peter 7-it says
“Now to you who believe
This stone is precious
But to those who do not believe
The stone the builders rejected
Has become the cornerstone”
It is up to us
To NOT let God and Christ
Be rejected a second time
Believe
Because Jesus himself told us:
“Because the Kingdom of God is within you” Luke 17:21
We can change the world
By being disciples of Christ
And choosing to love
Despite what the world throws at us
“A new command I give you
Love one another
As I have love you
So you must love one another
By this
All will know you are my disciples
If you love one another” John 13:34-35
BELIEVE AND LOVE
And maybe we can hear one more time
“The stone that the builders rejected

On a dark gray Friday afternoon-Jesus conquered darkness and death-WE TOO face much darkness
on our journey:
Sickness-anxiety-personal conflicts-bereavement-etc.-but even as the problems continue-we must
soldier on and attempt to UNITE our lives with Jesus to cry out VICTORY
What is comforting is that Jesus WALKS beside us and gives us HIS LOVE as he LEADS the way
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in this comforting LOVE that GOD GIVES US every day
REJECTION-THE CORNERSTONE
Have you ever been rejected
Totally shot down by another person
Or a group of people
That you wanted to be a part of
Shunned-excluded
It doesn’t feel very good
DOES IT
I would venture to say
That each and everyone of us
Have been rejected
By someone that we wanted to include us
In their life-in some way
Well that
Is what happened to OUR LORD
He came
To love the people of his day
And he was rejected publicly
And, in addition, tortured and humiliated
Our Lord knew
He was going to be rejected
For we find
A foreshadowing in the old testament
Which he knew intimately
“The stone the builders rejected
Is now the cornerstone” Psalm 118:22
“He was despised and rejected by men
A man of sorrows-and familiar with suffering
Like one
From whom men hide their faces
He was despised
And we esteemed him not” Isaiah 53:3
Know this
Our Lord CHOSE to love us anyway
And his rejection
Has become the salvation for 1 billion people
Who call themselves Christians
God and Christianity
Are under attack by the secular world today
Our Lord and Savior-sometimes I feel
Are being put to death all over again
I urge-those who believe
To KEEP ON BELIEVING
To KEEP ON LOVING
To KEEP ON FORGIVING
Despite the little acts of treason
And rejection
That we all feel
For in 2 Peter 7-it says
“Now to you who believe
This stone is precious
But to those who do not believe
The stone the builders rejected
Has become the cornerstone”
It is up to us
To NOT let God and Christ
Be rejected a second time
Believe
Because Jesus himself told us:
“Because the Kingdom of God is within you” Luke 17:21
We can change the world
By being disciples of Christ
And choosing to love
Despite what the world throws at us
“A new command I give you
Love one another
As I have love you
So you must love one another
By this
All will know you are my disciples
If you love one another” John 13:34-35
BELIEVE AND LOVE
And maybe we can hear one more time
“The stone that the builders rejected

SAINT MARK the EVANGELIST
SAINT MARK
Saint Mark was an evangelist
But not
One of the original apostles
He was the young man
Who followed Christ
After his arrest
And later escaped capture
“A young man wearing nothing
But a linen garment
Was following Jesus
When they seized him
He fled naked
Leaving his garment behind” Mark 14:51-52
Dear Lord-we pray
That as we follow you
Through our lives
When times become tough
That we do not flee from you
As the other apostles
And Mark did
Mark was later
The companion
Of both Paul and Peter
Paul and Barnabas-Mark’s cousin
Took Mark on Paul’s first missionary journey
But Mark turned back
For Jerusalem
Paul became angry
And his quarrel with Barnabas
Led to Barnabas and Mark
Preaching together in Cypress
“Some time later
Paul said to Barnabas,
‘Let us go back
And visit the brothers
Where we preached the Word of the Lord
And see how they are doing’
Barnabas wanted to take John
Also called John Mark with them
But Paul did not think
It wise to take him
Because he had deserted them
In Pamphylia
And not continued with them
In the work” Acts 15:36:38
They had a sharp disagreement
And Barnabas and Mark
Preached in Cyprus
Paul took Silas
And headed out to strengthen the churches
In Syria and Cilicia
Later
Mark was with Paul
When Paul was in prison
“My fellow prisoner Aristarchus
Sends you his greetings
As does Mark-the cousin of Barnabas
(“You have received instructions about him
If he comes to you-welcome him”) Colossians 4:10
And Peter referred to Mark,
“As his son”
“She who is in Babylon
Chosen together with you
Sends you her greetings
As does my son Mark”
We must remember
That Mark was a good deal younger
Than Peter and Paul
And that Peter
Is probably the SOURCE
Of most of Mark’s Gospel
It is believed
Mark suffered martyrdom
Possibly in Alexandria
Of which he was the first bishop
The symbol of Mark
As an evangelist
Is the lion
And his feast day
Is April 25th

Was a MUCH LOVED
Wonder working ROMAN Saint
She was
A person of means
With a keen sense
Of social responsibility
And mystic
And an INSPIRITATIONAL leader
Who founded
A Benedictine order
Of women-OBLATES
Without vows
DEDICATED to the
SERVICE of the poor
She was married
To Lorenzo Ponziano
At the age of 13
Although she really
Desired to be a nun
In the same household
Lived her husband's brother
And his wife
These two
Shared Frances' ideas
And together the two young wives
DEVOTED themselves
To relieving
The distress of Rome's poor
ESPECIALLY in hospitals
In 1400
She bore the first
Of her six children
To whom
She was constantly devoted

"HOW GLORIOUS is your name ALL over the earth" Psalm 8:2
In psalm 8-the psalmist is ALMOST giddy about what GOD has done-creating the vast universe
for us-the seemingly insignificant human race-TREATING us with dignity
And BEYOND that-HE goes ahead and becomes ONE OF US-and conquers death for us
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in GOD'S LOVE for us
GLORY
I am not seeking
Earthly glory
Nor even
Heavenly glory
ALL I wish
Is that someone/somewhere/some day
Will give GLORY TO GOD
Because of the life
That I have tried
To lead
And by glory
I mean
“The grandeur and majesty
Of God revealed'
“But you are a shield
Around me-O Lord
You bestow GLORY on me
And lift up
My head” Psalm 3:4
God doesn't need me
Nor you-For that matter
To GLORIFY his name
That
Has already been done
In the PERFECT life and love
Of OUR Lord Jesus Christ
Never the less
How PLEASING it is to God
When we live lives
That GLORIFY his name

Dear Lord-at Pentecost-when the people learned that you were the Christ-they were "CUT TO
THE HEART"
Like them-when I think about my wrong doing in this world-I AM CUT TO THE HEART
Dear Lord-I am SORRY-and may I LIVE a life that is a CLOSER walk with thee
it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in your constant LOVE for us
A HEART CONDITION
Do you have
A heart condition
I am NOT
Talking about the physical illness
The kind that robs you
Of health-causes operations
And is-I believe
The number 1 cause of death
THE LORD KNOWS
That I am
Sympathetic to that
And the people of that illness
And ALL illness
No-I am talking about
The KIND of heart condition
That makes you KIND to
CARING to
And LOVING to others
For this is the second commandment
“LOVE your neighbor as yourself”
Treat them
As HOW
You would have them you
Treat you
GO THE EXTRA MILE
For them
For the heart is
Figuratively and literally
The center of a person
That which gives direction
To a person
So while
I HOPE and PRAY
That you not
Have a physical heart condition
I hope and pray
That you do have
A SPIRITUAL heart condition

Do you know
What it means
To resurrect
GENERALLY-it means
To RAISE from the dead
And bring back to life
And SPECIFICALLY
It means-Jesus Christ's RESURRECTION
Over physical death
BETRAYAL by a friend
Couldn't kill him
Denial by another friend
Couldn't kill him
And the running away
Of all the rest of his friends
Couldn't kill him
NOT even torture, humiliation,
And physical death
Could contain him
Jesus Christ
TRIUMPHED over it all
He triumphed
OVER THE GRAVE
Jesus said
To Mary Magdalene
And Mary-the mother of James
And Salome
“Be not afraid
You seek Jesus of Nazareth
Who was crucified
He is RISEN

JOURNAL/LORD YOU TAKE OVER
SOMETIMES we become SHAKEN in our faith according to the circumstances of our life-
BUT that NEVER happens with God-HE is steadfast and unshakable to the end
Isaiah once wrote:
"Though the mountains leave their place
And the hills be shaken
MY LOVE shall never leave you
NOR my covenant of peace be shaken"
OUR GOD will accompany EVERY minute of our ever-changing lives
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in GOD'S never changing-EVERLASTING LOVE for us

Sometimes it doesn’t work out

To remove the thorn in my flesh
But the Lord said to me,
“My grace is sufficient for you

SPREAD GOD'S message of HOPE AND LOVE to someone who needs to hear it today
IT is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in GOD'S LOVE for us
GOOD FRIDAY-FROM DEATH INTO LIFE
WHY do they
Call Good Friday-GOOD
WHEN it signifies
The death of
OUR LORD AND SAVIOR Jesus Christ
THE DEATH
Of our God
Because it is
WHAT comes next
That matters
THE TRIUMPH of life over death
BECAUSE we know
Anything in and of God
Cannot die
God-TRUE LOVE-God's WORD-
Jesus-THE Son Of God
Jesus is the Word
Made flesh
The living-breathing SON OF GOD
Even death

The ULTIMATE TRIUMPH

Are from our house
At 3400 Massachusetts Avenue
My mom and dad
Telling me
That the Easter bunny was there
And hiding the baskets
And my two sisters and I
Searching all over the house
To find them
I'm not sure exactly why
But I think
I was
Usually the last
To find mine
And later
In the day
My mom's two brothers-John and Rege
And Aunt Stella's family
ALL coming for Easter dinner
And later on
As the kids got older
All the families
Going to Aunt Stella's
For Easter dinner
Ham-scalloped potatoes-
Dying Easter eggs-chocolate-jelly beans
Lying in my room
Listening to “Jesus Christ Super Star”
Going to Easter Service
On Good Friday-Holy Saturday
And Easter Sunday!
But mostly
What Easter means to me
IS LOVE
FAMILY LOVE
And God's OWN LOVE
My family's love
And God's love
Have NEVER FAILED ME
“The Lord loves righteousness
And justice
The earth is full
Of his UNFAILING LOVE” Psalm 33:5
“What a man desires
IS UNFAILING LOVE” Proverbs 19:22
God's WORD is alive
Jesus is ALIVE!

He conquered the grave
I remember once
When we were in church
For Easter in Maryland
At my sister Mary's
The church was totally quiet
Before Mass
And I believe my dad
Was carrying Carley (when she was a young baby)
And she yelled out:
“Jesus is Alive!-Jesus is ALIVE!”
Into a dead silent church
And that's where
I wish I could be
This Easter
YELLING OUT
To this silent world on God
“GOD is alive
Jesus is alive
God is NOT dead”
BELIEVE it
Live it

And HOW was he repaid
With a broken body
With a broken heart
And with ALL of his disciples and friends deserting him
But he could do it
For he was GOD

He is exalted today
But what about us
Poor humans
Will we even make the effort
To walk humbly

Encourages us to do so
“Live in harmony
With one another
Do not be proud
But be willing to associate
With people of low position
Do NOT be conceited” Romans 12:16

And he took much criticism

To be his twelve apostles

That whatever your state in life
WHOEVER you are
That GOD CHOOSES you

A little bit hard to believe
A little bit overwhelming

SIMPLICITY---Saint Bernadette ( 1844-1879 )
Saint Bernadette was a visionary
And later a nun
She was the daughter of Francois Soubirous-a miller
And the oldest of six children
They lived in extreme poverty
At the age of 14, in 1958,
She experienced 18 visions
Of the Blessed Mother
At the rock of Massabielle, Lourdes
The Virgin-herself-told Bernadette
“I AM THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION”
The Blessed Mother
Also told Bernadette to build a church
And to drink from a spring
At first---NO ONE believed her
Not even the church
But from that time
Until the present day
That spring
Produces 27,000 gallons of water a week
The POWER OF FAITH
The POWER OF SIMPLICITY
T he POWER OF---A BELIEVING HEART
As a child
Bernadette was an undersized youth
Who suffered from asthma
Her intellectual capacity was adequate---
YET SIMPLE
And some believed her to be stupid
Yet her veracity and courage
Were beyond dispute
She stuck to her story
Despite investigation
By both the clergy and state officials
She remained UNSHAKEN
SIMPLICITY-FAITH-BELIEF
The power of a believing heart
Because she was a subject
Of publicity and curiosity
She became a nun
And remained one for the rest of her life
She became cut off from Lourdes
And was NOT present
At the dedication of the Basilica
The only “extraordinary” moments
Of her life
Were those six months
In which she had18 visions
Of the Blessed Mother
We MUST NEVER FORGET
That God works through the ORDINARY
God works through THOSE WITH FAITH
God is NOT found in those
With great great minds
But those
WITH GREAT GREAT HEARTS
Bernadette was canonized in 1933
Not for her visions
But for---HER TOTAL COMMITMENT
And her SIMPLICITY, integrity, and trust
IN GOD and the BLESSED MOTHER

We may never face the tragic betrayal of a friend that costs us our live-but we face betrayals WHEN
people talk about us -lie about us-and DON'T keep their word-I CALL them LITTLE acts of treason
BUT we NEED NEVER worry-for we KNOW GOD has an INFINITE LOVE for us and will
NEVER betray or abandon us
WE can respond by giving our lives and love back to GOD-not matter how small we think it might be-
it is a PRECIOUS and WELCOME gift to God
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us! and a great day to give our life and

Journal/OVERCOMING DISCOURAGEMENT
AS CHRISTIANS-we are called to GIVE ALL we have for God-when we do this-it is easy to run into
people and situations that cause discouragement
WHEN this happens-we might want to RECALL the words of Isaiah in Isaiah 49:4
"Though I thought I had toiled in vain
And for nothing-uselessly-spent my strength
YET my REWARD is in the Lord"
IT is a GREAT DAY to work for God and BE ALIVE in God's LOVE for us!

OVERCOMING DISCOURAGEMENT
We often become
Discouraged or disappointed
On our life’s journey
Sometimes it’s just
The ordinary things of life
Our job isn’t going right
We score badly on a test
In school
Someone looks at us
The wrong way
Or says the wrong thing
At the wrong time
Or it could be
Something more major
Like a health diagnosis
Bad finances
Or a relationship breaking apart
In ANY case
The question becomes
How do we overcome being discouraged
And WHERE
Do we find HOPE
In the book of Joshua
God appoints Joshua
To succeed Moses
And Joshua is wondering
If he has what it takes
AS YOU AND I
Sometimes wonder
IF we have what it takes
To overcome our obstacles
And SUCCEED in life
God tells Joshua
“Have I not commanded you
Be strong and courageous
Do not be terrified
DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED
For the Lord your God
Will be with you
WHEREVER YOU GO” Joshua 1:9
And I tell you
BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS
In whatever obstacles
You are facing in life
WIN FROM WITHIN
WE HAVE what it takes
The Lord your God
The Lord my God
OUR GOD IS WITH US
Of whom or what
Should we be afraid

Jesus responds: "the poor you will have ALWAYS-but me you will NOT always have
Dear Lord-often we have to live frugally either by choice or economic necessity-HELP US to
recognize those times-when we need to STEP outside of ourselves and LOVE EXTRAVAGANTLY
Jesus had not much time left-and HE recognized the IMPORTANCE of that

Was a movie called,
“CAN’T BUY ME LOVE”
With a young Patrick Dempsey
It was about
A nerdy high school boy
Paying the most popular girl
In school-to be his girlfriend
So he can become popular
She became
His paid for girlfriend
He becomes popular
And turns into a complete jerk
And she winds up
Despising him
And turns the whole school
Against him
MONEY CAN’T BUY ME LOVE
In life
If we are good-looking
We can buy fame
We can
Even buy sex
But we CAN’T BUY
True love
We can’t buy
True affection
And that
Is what is so great
About our God
We don’t have to
HE MADE US
He loves us
He KNOWS every strength
And every weakness
That we have
He knows
EVERY flaw
In your character
And yet
HE LOVES YOU ANYWAY
Money can’t
BUY ME LOVE
And it
Doesn’t have to
God loves you
FOR WHO YOU ARE
But what do you LOVE MORE
Is it God
Or is it money
“For where your treasure is
There your heart
Will also be” Matthew 6:21
“NO ONE can serve two masters
Either he will hate the one
And love the other
Or he will be devoted
To the one
And despise the other
YOU CANNOT SERVE

Where does your treasure lie?
Which master do you serve?
Don’t get me wrong
Having money
Is NOT a sin
We all need money
To live
But the love of money
Putting money above people
Above God-Above family-IS
“For the LOVE OF MONEY
Is a ROOT of all kinds of evil
Some people-eager for money
Have wandered from the faith
And pierced themselves with many griefs” 1 Timothy 6:10

There’s a man
Out there on the hill
With something on his back
Walking, struggling
Trying to move along
He was
Made to do this
By a man
By the name of Pilate
Because
He fell out of favor
With the people
But he picked up the cross
Willingly
And moved right along
He fell once, He fell twice
And even a third time
But he kept getting back up
The people all knew
It was wrong
Take a look
At this man
Take a good long look
The people of his day
Did not want
To confront their sins
The same as me and you today
They keep---we keep
Living out of coldness
Living out of ingratitude
Living out of selfishness
Denying the needs of one another
Along the way
On his walk with the cross
He met his Mother
Along the way
He wept for the women of Jerusalem---
And the people of his day
Take a look

We live in a FRAGMENTED world-a world with fragmented families-fragmented friendship groups
and fragmented church groups
Ezekiel once wrote:
"THERE shall be ONE SHEPHERD for us all"
Dear Lord-HELP US to keep our eyes on you-the ONE who created us-REDEEMED us and continuously draws us back to YOU and one another
THE GOD of love-forgiveness-an kindness-THE ONE SHEPHERD OF US ALL
It is a GREAT day to be alive in the LORD'S LOVE for us ALL!

Jesus asked us
To be as one
HOW did we get it so wrong
“My prayer is not for them alone
I pray also for those
Who will believe in me
Through their message
That ALL of them
May be one, Father,
Just as you are in me
And I am in you
May they also be in us
So that the world may believe
That you have sent me
I have given them the glory
That you gave me
That they may be one
As we are one” John 17:20-22

The Jewish religion, the Muslims,

What Jesus would say today
We have the Catholic Religion
Which I have been apart of
Since almost my first day
On this earth---and still proudly so
We have the Protestant Religion
We have Willow Creek
We have the Baptists
All of which I have been a part of
And proud to be a part of
I have Jewish family
I have Jewish friends
Can’t say that I have any Muslim friends
That I am personally aware of
But I don’t think
Any religion
Is inherently good or bad
It is always the radical element
Of any group
That gets us into trouble
“That they may be one”
I am certainly NO Theologian
But I have a general understanding
Of how the church
Has broken apart over the years
“I in them and you in me
May they be brought to complete unity
To let the world
Know that you sent me
And have loved them
Even as you have loved me” John 17:23
“That they may be one
As we are one”
When I talk to people
I always ask them about God
And their church
I have met
So many beautiful people
People from ALL countries
From ALL nationalities
From ALL societies
ALL socio-economic make ups
And religions
Where is the bridge
Linking us ALL together
I dear say
It is our humanity
The desire to be accepted and valued
As a human being---for who we are
Being told that we matter
That we are somebody in this world
Could it really be that simple?
“That they may be one”
We have Moses and the Ten Commandments
We have Jesus’ teaching on love,
The 2 Greatest Commandments, forgiveness
And the SERMON on the MOUNT
We have the teachings of Confucius, Buddha,
Of Mohammed, Gandhi,
And many other great men and women
In and of this world
And finally
We have the Golden Rule
“So in everything, do to others
What you would have them do to you
For this sums up
The Law and the Prophets” Matthew 7:12
“THAT THEY MAY ALL BE ONE”
We can do it---it is up to us

Where is the bridge
Linking us ALL together
I dear say
It is our humanity
The desire to be accepted and valued
As a human being---for who we are
Being told that we matter
That we are somebody in this world
Could it really be that simple?
“That they may be one”
We have Moses and the Ten Commandments
We have Jesus’ teaching on love,
The 2 Greatest Commandments, forgiveness
And the SERMON on the MOUNT
We have the teachings of Confucius, Buddha,
Of Mohammed, Gandhi,
And many other great men and women
In and of this world
And finally
We have the Golden Rule
“So in everything, do to others
What you would have them do to you
For this sums up
The Law and the Prophets” Matthew 7:12
“THAT THEY MAY ALL BE ONE”
We can do it---it is up to us
I urge to be a bridge
And a connector
In today’s world

PARADISE LOST-PARADISE FOUND
PARADISE LOST-PARADISE FOUND
I often wonder
WHAT Jesus was feeling
In the garden
The night before
HE WAS to die on the cross
FOR US
“Agony,” of course
That is what
It is ALWAYS referred to
He asked his friends
And Apostles
To sit up with him
WHILE he prayed
They couldn't even do that
“COULD you men
NOT keep watch with me
For one hour”
He asked Peter,
“Watch and pray
That you will not fall
Into temptation
The spirit is willing
BUT the body is weak” Matthew 26:41-42
LET down by his friends
Even before
He FACED his moment of truth
PARADISE LOST
HOW AWFUL
That must have felt for him
For which of us
Hasn't been let down
By a friend or two
The next day
As Jesus hung on the cross
DYING for our sins
One of the men
Being crucified with him said
To another man,
“'Don't you fear God
Since you are
Under the same sentence
We are punished justly
For we are getting
What our deeds deserve
But this man
Has done nothing wrong'
Jesus answered him,
'I tell you the truth
Today you will be with me
In paradise'” Luke 23:40-43
And I believe
That that is where Jesus was
IN PARADISE
Along with the other man
That day
HIS VICTORIOUS RESURRECTION
And the fact that his message
OF LOVE-FORGIVENESS-AND KINDNESS
Proves that
I PRAYED my whole life
That IF I was alive
With Jesus
At that time
I would have
WENT to the cross with him
WHILE I/we
WILL never know
The answer to that
My PARADISE LOST-in my life
Has been my health
My finances
And the fact
That I was never
To have my own family
But my PARADISE FOUND
Has been my life
And FAITH in God
And my life and faith in others
And HOW
I have been REWARDED
You see
I live IN PARADISE
Beautiful weather
Beautiful grounds-green grass-palm trees
ALL surrounded by water
The MOST loving family
Friends, neighbors, and churches
I am
SURROUNDED BY LOVE
And ALWAYS
SURROUNDED BY GOD'S LOVE
I call it
PARADISE FOUND
My own personal garden of Eden
But in
ALL the good ways
ALL LOVE
So I thank my God
And my PERSONAL SAVIOR Jesus Christ
For taking the cross for me
And I say thank you
To him,
My family, my friends and neighbors, and churches
FOR SURROUNDING me with their love

JOURNAL/A SERVANT'S HEART
AS disciples and FOLLOWERS of Jesus and GOD in today's world-one of the things we are called
on to do IS TO SERVE GOD
WE can do this in any number of ways-but specifically with OUR time-money-and prayer
SOMETIMES we are eager to do so-but afraid-but one thing we cab ALL do is encourage others
Dear Lord-we pray for the courage of your disciples and saints to STEP OUT and be a POSITIVE
LIGHT in today's world
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us! and a GREAT day to SERVE God
and others in whatever way we can
LOVE YOU ALL!

A SERVANT’S HEART
We are called
To be servant’s of God
We are called
To be
Servants of the world
Does that
Sound strange to you
It does to me
Yet when the brothers-James and John
Jesus’ apostles
Asked to sit at his right and left hands
When he comes into glory
This was Jesus’ response:
“You know
That those who are regarded
As rulers of the Gentiles
Lord it over them
And their high officials
Exercise authority over them
Not so with you
Instead whoever wants to
Become great among you
Must be your servant
And whoever
Wants to be first
Must be slave to all
For even the Son of Man
Did not come to be served
But to serve
And to give his life
As a ransom for many” Mark 10:42-45
Are you serious Lord
Our culture
Basically tells us
That if we are NOT number 1
That we are nothing
Yet you are telling us
That to be like you
That we are to be beneath all
WHAT A DIFFICULT LESSON
WHAT A DIFFICULT TEACHING
Yet we KNOW HE is right
For he did not
Just talk the talk
He walked the walk
And died-mocked-and humiliated
But ROSE again
Because of his FAITH in his Father
I ALWAYS wanted
To be number 1
I wanted to be the one
To SAVE the world
Yet because of
My health and financial situations
It is others
FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Who have STEPPED up
TO HELP ME
Yet I continue
To TRY to have a LOVING HEART
And TRY to be a UNIFYING FORCE
In today’s world
And I can honestly say
I DON’T CARE if I am in last place
And you shouldn’t be either
LOOK around
You are in GOOD company
“Your attitude
Should be the same as that
Of Christ Jesus
Who being-in very nature God
Did NOT consider equality with God
Something to be grasped
But made himself nothing
Taking the very nature
Of a servant
Being made in human likeness
And being found
In appearance as a man
He humbled himself
And became obedient to death
Even death on a cross
Therefore God exalted him
To the highest place
And gave him the name
That is ABOVE every name
That at the name of JESUS
Every knee should bow
In heaven and on earth
And under the earth
And every tongue confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord
To the GLORY of God the Father”
Philippians 2:5-11
Dear Lord-we pray
HELP us to
Live a life courteous and pleasing
To you
And to all
And that
We have a heart

journal/FALSE IDOLS
WHO OR WHAT is number 1 in your life?
The FIRST COMMANDMENT says: "I AM the LORD........you shall NOT place other gods above me"
I think-in this the modern day 21st century this is the toughest commandment to follow-and getting tougher every day
WE are all tempted every day to put our career-our hobby-our favorite sport-or an admired person first
in our life;or even the computer-face book or television
Dear LORD we pray that WE-and this world return you and FAMILY to their rightful place-NUMBER ONE in our hearts-minds-and souls
IT is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE! in God's LOVE for us-and HOPEFULLY our love for GOD and others
LOVE YOU ALL!

FALSE IDOLS
Do you know what idolatry is
Basically it is
Putting something before God
And it has been going on
Since the beginning of time
Satan said to Eve,
“Did God really say
“You must not eat from any tree
In the garden”
Eve responds,
“We may eat from trees
in the garden
But God did say
“You must not eat fruit
From the fruit
That is in the middle of the garden
And you must not touch it
Or you will die”
Eve and Adam
Chose evil, chose Satan, chose fruit
Over the Word of God
Strike 1
Fast forward about 1400 years
And we find the Lord
Saying to Moses,
“Tell the Israelites this:
You have seen for yourselves
That I have spoken to you from heaven
Do not make any gods
To be along side me
Do not make for yourselves
Gods of silver or gods of gold” Exodus 20:22-23
As the Lord is finishing speaking
To Moses on Mount Sinai
Aaron and the Israelite people
Are finishing building a golden calf
To put on an altar to worship
Then they said,
“These are your gods O Israel
Who brought you up out of Egypt” Exodus 32:4
Moses goes back down the mountain
Only to find the people
Worshipping the golden calf
Moses becomes so angry
That he destroys the two tablets of testimony
“The tablets were the work of God
The writing was the writing of God
Engraved on the tablets” Exodus 32:16
Fast forward about 600 years
And we find God himself
In the form of Jesus Christ
Walking the earth
He teaches us
The two greatest commandments
He teaches us
About forgiveness
He teaches us the Beatitudes
And gives us The Sermon on the Mount
Only to be betrayed
By a friend---with a kiss
For 30 pieces of silver
But he leaves with us the SPIRIT
The third person of the TRINITY
Known as our counselor
And active in the lives of his believers
But how many “TRUE” believers are left?
We are worshipping
The gods of materialism
The gods of sexual promiscuity
The gods of pornography
The gods of drug and alcohol addiction
And Lord only knows what else
EVERY DEPRAVITY
Known to man
I beseech you-me-ALL of us
To return to God
And IF you haven’t already done so
Put GOD AND FAMILY FIRST
“God is spirit
And his worshippers
Must worship in spirit and truth”
Have fun with your life
But keep God where he should be
NUMBER 1 IN YOUR LIFE
