“A Promise”
Promises made
Promises given
No matter how we try
To get away
It’s that promise
That makes life
Worth living
It can’t be denied
It can’t be taken back
It’s part of who we are
And if we tried
To take that promise back
Much of ourselves
We would lack
Promises made
Promises given
As long as we are alive
It is our promise
That makes our life worth living
It is part of
Who we are
It is in our heart
It is in our soul
Without that promise
Much of ourselves
We would lack
A promise made
A promise given
It is who we are
And it has made our life
