NEVER PERISH




Did you know
That Jesus PROMISED


That he actually
Gave his assurance

In being HONORED

And did you know

Jesus promises us
“LIFE EVERLASTING” with him


PERISH
By its strictest definition
Means to
“STOP LIVING or die”


And yet we know
That those who BELIEVE in God
That those
Who BELIEVE IN CHRIST
SHALL NEVER PERISH


“For God so LOVED
The world
That he gave us
HIS ONE AND ONLY SON


That whoever
BELIEVES in him
Shall never perish
But have ETERNAL LIFE” John 3:16


We may
Not live physically forever
But we will LIVE FOREVER
In God
Forever in the LIFE
And LOVE
Of our Lord Jesus Christ


And we know
The wicked will die


We KNOW
That those who
DO NOT keep the commandments
Will perish


“For the Lord
WATCHES over the way
Of the righteous


But the way
Of the wicked
WILL PERISH” Psalm 1:6


The RIGHTEOUS
Those BELONGING TO GOD
Will never perish


“They will perish
But you REMAIN


They will wear off
Like a garment” Psalm 102:26


BELONG to God
Listen to God
KEEP HIS WORD


FOLLOW the SHEPHERD
And you will NEVER perish


“MY SHEEP
Listen to my voice


I know them
And they FOLLOW me


I give them eternal life
And they shall never perish

Of God

Do you have a STRONG FAITH in God and a strong faith that GOD IS ALIVE in our world and that he LIVES in you and me? I DO-I FEEL GOD with every fiber of my being and I KNOW he is alive in me-and I KNOW that GOD LOVES and lives in you too-whoever you are-and whatever you might be


WE ALL KNOW the story of DOUBTING TOMAS-HE had to see and TOUCH the wounds of the RISEN CHRIST to believe-in fact-he did RESURRECT-HOW about you-DO YOU BELIEVE in God-do you believe in the RISEN CHRIST-or are you still HOLDING OUT for scientific evidence that GOD EXISTS


IT IS FAITH-in the UNSEEN-that feeds our souls-WE ARE dependent on GOD'S UNENDING love-mercy-and forgiveness-FOR NONE of us are perfect-and IF we are believers-we are to PASS this mercy on to others-and for this GIFT of GOD'S UNENDING MERCY-for the gift of GOD'S eternal life all he asks for is OUR BELIEF-OUR FAITH-BELIEF without seeing


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE for GOD'S LOVE for us-and a GREAT DAY to have a little FAITH in God








SEEING IS BELIEVING




Have you ever heard
The saying, “Seeing is believing”


I have
And to me-this is science
100 per cent proof or fact


Believing without seeing
I call it FAITH
And this is what you need
To FIND GOD in your life


You need to know
That someone is there
Without being able
To see it, touch it, or feel it
Or prove it 100%


You have
To feel it in your heart
KNOW-a presence is there
For your own good


Faith in God
Is a trust and dependence
On God
Just knowing he is there


In January of 1978
I had just came out
From my 3^rd life and death operation
In the last year


I was
For the most part bedridden
And my Doctors
Were still telling me
That there was no medical reason
That I was for the most part-CRAZY


I literally
Crawled around the stacks of medical books
In the Woods Run Library
Reading every medical book
I could get my hands on


In August of 1981
Crohn’s disease was finally proven
And a team of Doctors
Apologized to me-and said
“You should be the doctor”


Faith
I am a BELIEVER
In God-and in Christ
WITHOUT SEEING


In Genesis
Moses tells the story
Of a man with great faith


God tells Abraham
To sacrifice his son-Isaac
And in a particularly poignant story
Abraham is ready to do just that


“Then God said,
“Take your son
Your only son, Isaac
Whom you love
And go to the region
Of Moriah


Sacrifice him there
As a burnt offering
On one of the mountains
I will tell you about” Genesis 22:2


When Abraham was ready
To sacrifice his son
God called out,


“DO not
Lay a hand on the boy


Do not do anything
To him
Now I know
You fear God
Because you have
Not withheld from me-your son
Your only son” Genesis 22:12


Abraham then looked up
And saw a ram
Caught by his horns
Which he sacrificed
In place of his son-Isaac


And we ALL know
The story of Jesus, Mary , and Joseph


SEEING maybe believing
But sometimes
FAITH is proof enough
ALL BY ITSELF

WHAT DO YOU compare the kingdom of God too?-I WISH we could BUILD a heaven on earth-a world BASED on PEACE-LOVE-and FORGIVENESS.-like JOHN LENNON said: in the song-”IMAGINE:;”-”IMAGINE all the PEOPLE living life in PEACE”-”YOU CAN call me a DREAMER-but I am NOT the ONLY ONE”


-A world FULL of GRATITUDE to GOD for the BLESSINGS we have on this earth-well I BELIEVE GOD'S KINGDOM is OPEN to ALL-even though I don't KNOW how to reconcile GOD'S KINGDOM with those who DON'T BELIEVE in MY Lord and SAVIOR Jesus Christ-but thankfully that is NOT my job-and it is NO ONE ELSE'S-it is a job that belongs ONLY TO GOD


WELL-I hope-that like me-you TRY and build a KINGDOM by LOVING GOD with your whole heart-mind-soul-and strength-and I HOPE you TRY and build a KINGDOM of GOD by loving your neighbor as yourself-REGARDLESS of who they are-what they look like-and what they BELIEVE IN


BECAUSE-as CHRISTIANS-our job is to LOVE-FORGIVE and BE KIND-it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day for BUILDING the KINGDOM OF GOD

ARE YOU a GOOD PERSON?-I hope your answer IS YES-but it is NOT ENOUGH to be just a good person-OUR JOB as CHRISTIANS is to LIVE lives so good that we INSPIRE others to want to LIVE GOOD LIVES too


AND it is also OUR RESPONSIBILITY-as 21^st century APOSTLES of GOD AND CHRIST-to live lives of charity and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE-WE ARE to LOVE our brothers and sisters in CHRIST-as GOD LOVES US


I WRITE a lot of words-but IF my actions are NOT in tune with my words-my words are meaningless-
WE MUST LIVE lives of service and HUMILITY toward others and we MUST CHALLENGE others to do the same


DEAR LORD-we PRAY that we ALWAYS love you and that we always love others-and we PRAY that others FIND REASON to love us


it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in God's LOVE for us-and a great day to let the LOVE OF GOD flow so through us-that we ARE GOOD-to the last drop

THE PARABLE of the SOWER is ONE of the great parables of Jesus and of the NEW TESTAMENT-I don't know about you-BUT I am always trying to HELP PEOPLE and help bring about GOOD and GOODNESS in others-as well as myself


BUT it seems-as often as NOT-the people we run into-or run up against produces thorns or very HARD GROUND-sometimes-it is MOST DIFFICULT to get the message of GOD'S LOVE-forgiveness-and KINDNESS across to others-that GOD REALLY does love them-and that we are in TURN-TO LOVE OTHERS


it is then-WHEN I NEED to find the people in MY LIFE that are really GOOD SOIL-the people who LOVE GOD-and TRY to love others as much as I do-sometimes we just need to get away from the hard ground-and SURROUND OURSELVES with the GOOD-because-at times-we NEED to be LIFTED UP too


STAND UP-acknowledge the GOOD LIVING within you-acknowledge those LIVING around you that are LIVING out of their GOOD SOIL-it is a great place to LIVE from-and it is WHERE GOD LIVES IN YOU



it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day to PRODUCE FRUIT-the GOOD FRUIT OF GOD

HOW PATIENT are you WHEN you are waiting on that MIRACLE-WAITING ON GOD-or waiting on that LIFE EVENT that just doesn't seem to ever come-WHEN I was young-I was NOT AS PATIENT as life events have forced me to become-I WANTED TO ACT- a minute ago was not soon enough-GRANDFATHER MURPHY used to say: “too bad you cannot put old heads on young bodies”
-and it is-because I SUSPECT-that we could have- as the young people today COULD HAVE-learned a little bit of PATIENCE-and along with it-A LITTLE MORE HUMILITY


I WANTED to meet the PERFECT GIRL-go to college-START a career and a FAMILY-but life-and GOD had other PLANS FOR ME-AND what I LEARNED IS that LIFE-LOVE-and TRUTH-are all the NATURE OF GOD-and no matter WHERE WE ARE in life-that is REALLY ALL-that is important


OUR JOB is to get up EVERY DAY-thank God for another day of life-BE PATIENT-and watch the signs that GOD PUTS in our life-and TREAT our FELLOW TRAVELERS with LOVE-KINDNESS and RESPECT


WE HAVE to TRUST that GOD is PRESENT IN OUR LIVES-and using us-by WORKING through us
-IF we are just quiet enough and PATIENT ENOUGH to notice


it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day TO BE as PATIENT with ourselves and others-AS GOD IS PATIENT WITH US-and TRUST that GOD KNOWS what he is doing-EVEN when we don't

Who are you going to trust


TRUST IN THE LORD


We live in a time
When almost all miracles
Are called medical miracles


We are leaving God
OUT OF THE PICTURE


How would you define the word “miracle”


I would define the word “miracle”
As when you’ve come
To the end of what medical science can do
Or-is willing to do
GOD-THE CREATOR AND THE SPIRIT OF LIFE-takes over


What has happened
In my life
Is definitely a “GOD” miracle
And I am proud
To boast in the Lord


TRUST IN THE LORD


In 1977-I walked away from
Peritonitis-gangrene-surgical shock- and a 108 degree temperature


Yet here I am


In additional years in the late 1970’s
And early 1980’s
I walked away-three times
From critical situations
That overlapped my birthday


“Vindicate me-oh Lord
For I have led a blameless life
I have trusted in the Lord
Without wavering” Psalm 26:1


I don’t pretend
EVEN TO MYSELF
That I have lived a blameless life


But I will tell you this
I HAVE TRUSTED in the Lord our God
TRUSTED-over and over again


And so
As I face some more
Difficult medical decisions
I will tell you this


I have NOTHING
Against medical science
But I am
GOING TO TRUST IN THE LORD


The Lord our God
Has given me miracle after miracle
In my life


WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST?


God gave me LIFE once in 1955
He gave me life a second time-in 1977
He has performed MIRACLE AFTER MIRACLE
In my life


WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST?


“But if SERVING the Lord
Seems undesirable to you
Then choose for yourself-THIS DAY
Whom you will serve
Whether the gods your forefathers served
Beyond the river
Or the gods of the Amorites
In whose land you are living


But as for me
And my household ( ONLY ME )

What a GREAT COMPLIMENT to Timothy and his family-by the APOSTLE PAUL=to have a FAMILY of GREAT FAITH


I TOO come from a FAMILY of great faith=my mom and my dad-my grandparents-OH I MISS ALL of them and the EXAMPLES of their GREAT FAITH in my life-and I MISS so many family members that are long gone-UNCLE JOHN-AUNT STELLA-UNCLE CHUCK and AUNT BETTY-cousin Jim and on and on-I also miss family members that LIVE far away-my sisters-my nieces my cousins-and ALL OF MY FRIENDS-GOD I AM BLESSED-what a great great LIFE that I have had


BY GOD-and by Paul and Timothy-and by MY OWN FAMILY AND FRIENDS-I am REMINDED that GOD did not give us a timid SPIRIT-but ONE with a HEART FULL OF LOVE


And I am REMINDED of my family-and their PASSIONATE FAITH and their courageous and GENEROUS deeds in HOW THEY LIVED


IT IS a great day to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to HONOR OUR FAMILY-their FAITH-and their NAMES and the example they sent for us

FROM EARTHLY VESSELS TO HEAVENLY BODIES




We are earthly vessels
But we are designed
To CARRY something


And what we are DESIGNED to carry
IS THE WORD OF GOD


A vessel is designed as a container
(ie. a bottle-a bowl-a cup-etc.)
For holding something


And in that something-that person-that body
IS INFUSED with a quality like faith, hope,
Love, grace, etc.


“And in him you too
ARE being built to become
A dwelling place
IN WHICH GOD LIVES BY HIS SPIRIT” Ephesians 2:22


I don’t know about you
But my body
SOMETIMES feels
More like a shack
Than a vessel
And I wonder why
GOD-GOD’S SPRIT
Would want to hang out with me
Let alone-LIVE INSIDE OF ME


Nevertheless he does


“LET all the earth
Fear the Lord
Let all the people
Of the world
REVERE HIM” Psalm 33:8


Let the SPIRIT OF GOD
LIVE
NOT in this broken down body
But in GOD’S HEAVENLY VESSEL


For the spirit of God-IS LIFE


Fortunately for us
Our God IS USED to humble places
So these broken down bodies of ours
HE CAN TRANSFORM


HE is used to stables
HE is used to crosses
SO these broken down bodies of ours
ARE NOTHING NEW


And we are children
OF GOD
And he WILL NEVER EVER
FORGET US


“For in him
We live and move
And have our heavenly being
AS some of our own poets have said
‘WE ARE HIS OFFSPRING’” Acts 17:28


Dear Lord-we pray
AS YOUR CHILDREN
To transform us
From earthly vessels
To heavenly bodies
To carry THE WORD OF GOD


“And we eagerly await
A Savior
From there- The Lord Jesus Christ


Who by the power
That enables him


To bring everything
UNDER his control


WILL TRANSFORM
OUR lowly bodies
So that
They will be like
HIS GLORIOUS BODY” Philippians 3:21

“Then they ABANDONED their nets and FOLLOWED HIM” Mark 1:18


HOW STRONG is your BELIEF IN GOD-HOW DEEP IS your FAITH-the world was CHANGED ONCE through PERFECT LOVE 2000 years ago-WHAT would you have done IF you were called-WHAT WOULD YOU DO if your were called today


THE APOSTLES were fishermen by TRADE-many with wives-and PERHAPS children-who knows-yet they ABANDONED their lives to FOLLOW GOD and Christ-WE TOO are being called to FOLLOW GOD and be BUILDERS of the KINGDOM-and today we don't even have to abandon our lives-WE CAN DO IT by the GOOD EXAMPLE of LIVING a TRUE CHRISTIAN LIFE wherever we are-through our FAMILIES-though our careers-IN WHATEVER WAY-God is calling


YET sometimes too we are called to LEAVE some things behind-material wealth and possessions-certainty of WHERE our lives are going-AS CHRISTIANS- sometimes-we are called to STEP OUT in FAITH and leave the safety net behind-THE TRICK is HOLDING ON to the guiding hand of GOD AND CHRIST that NOT ALL can see-Dear Lord-HOLD OUR HAND- as we step out in FAITH TODAY


it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE IN GOD'S LOVE for us










FALLING BACK ON OUR FAITH


There are many examples
In NATURE
Where firm foundations
PROVIDE the keys
And support to life


One such example
Is the TREE


The tree grows
Its roots
FAR into the ground
In order
To find support
And stabilization


And that is
WHAT GOD
Does for us


The DEEPER our faith
The stronger we are
And the more
WE CAN WITHSTAND


“If you do not
STAND FIRM in your faith
You will not stand
At all” Isaiah 7:9


Just as the wind
ALLOWS the tree
To stand firm
In the strong winds


OUR FAITH allows us
To stand firm
In the problems
And tragedies of life


But we must be careful
NOT to try and stand
And fall back
On ourselves


We must stand
On the STENGTH and firmness of GOD


STAND FIRM
Stand with faith
On the strength of God


We NEED a strong
LIVING FAITH in God
In order
To SUSTAIN ourselves
In the winds of life


When our hearts
Are BROKEN by loss
In the tragedies of life
Whether they be health-money-or relationship oriented


“He lifted me out
Of the slimy pit
Out of mud and mire


He set my feet
On a rock
And gave me
A FIRM PLACE
To stand” Psalm 40:2


STAND FIRM
On God
When the problems come


Stand firm
On your faith in him


“And the Lord said,
'LISTEN to what
The UNJUST judge says


And will not God
BRING about JUSTICE
For his chosen ones
Who cry out to him
Day and night


Will he
Keep putting them off


I tell you
He will see
That they get justice
And quickly


However
When the SON OF MAN comes
Will he find such faith
On earth'” Matthew 18:6-8

I say YES
Won't you join me?


He will FIND that faith
In us
THE FAITH
That builds its life

THIS PAST MONDAY-I celebrated my 60^th birthday-and GOD REMINDED ME AGAIN-just HOW BLESSED I AM through people like you-NOT ONLY with LIFE itself-but with people to SHARE my life with-and people like ALL OF YOU who share your life with me-THANK YOU AGAIN-and I DO indeed LOVE ALL of you-MY FAMILY AND MY FRIENDS


ONE of my favorite songs is a 17^th century hymn called: “PRAISE GOD FROM WHO ALL BLESSINGS FLOW” by an ANGELICAN BISHOP by the name of Thomas Ken


I PRAY that I as well as you-NEVER FORGET that ALL BLESSINGS come from GOD-and that we are ALL BLESSINGS to ONE ANOTHER-even WHEN we don't agree-at least that IS WHAT GOD calls us to be


WE can praise God publicly or PRIVATELY-and in the BEST of scenarios-WE DO BOTH-and we can do it by SPEAKING-SINGING-WRITING-PRAYING-or HOPEFULLY all of the above


OR we can just say as I DO many times throughout the day: “I LOVE YOU LORD” or “DEAR GOD-I LOVE YOU”


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day to PRAISE GOD-by saying-
“I LOVE YOU LORD”

How many blessings
Do you have in your life
Or do you have any BLESSINGS
At all


What is a blessing to you
To me-well I define BLESSINGS
As something given to us by God
That moves us forward
In some way
Or something
For our own best welfare


Our very own life
Is a blessing
The next breath of life
That you take
Is a GIFT from God


Your job and your school
Are blessings
Your family and friends
Are MAJOR blessings


In fact
As in my own case
Trials and setbacks
Can be blessings
BECAUSE it allowed me
To mature
And be thankful
For what I do
Have in life


“May God be gracious

And make his face

Jesus just picked 12 at the BEGINNING-now TODAY he picks us too-it is UP TO US to spread the WORD OF GOD in TODAY'S WORLD


WE DO IT through LOVE-through KINDNESS-and through FORGIVENESS-and living OUR LIVES by living the example of CHRIST


FOR WE ALL BELONG to the KINGDOM OF GOD-DEAR LORD-WE say THANK YOU for ALL who ANSWER the call


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to SPREAD THE WORD OF GOD












SPREADING THE WORD OF GOD




I have long felt
That today


The BATTLE
Is no longer between
The theology
Of the different religions


But the battle
Is between
SECULARISM and the church
ALL CHURCHES


And secularism
Is winning in a landslide


I BELIEVE
Less and less people
Are committed to God
In today's world


And I believe
This is particularly so
In the younger generation


SECULARISM is defined
As religious skepticism or INDIFFERENCE
And takes up the view


That religious consideration
Should be excluded
From civil affairs or public education


AND I have to tell you
I COULDN'T DISAGREE with this view
Any more than I do


COLDNESS-indifference-and ingratitude
IS KILLING GOD in this world
And killing God worse
Than the actual nailing
Of Jesus
To the cross


GOD is SLOWLY DYING
In this world
Maybe not on the cross


But in PEOPLE'S MINDS AND HEARTS


The church is DEFINED as BOTH
The local assemblies of CHRISTIANS
And the world wide
Community of BELIEVERS


In other words
The church
IS NOT the place
That we go to
On Saturday and Sunday


But made up
Of the MINDS AND HEARTS
Of the people
WHO BELIEVE IN CHRIST


So it is up to us believers
To TAKE GOD AND CHRISTIANITY
With us
WHEREVER WE GO


To the market place
To the drug stores
To the mall
To WHEREVER we go


After all
That is
What the EARLY BELIEVERS did


“AND ALL DAY LONG
Both at the temple
And in their homes


They did not stop teaching
And PROCLAIMING the Christ-Jesus” Acts 5:42


So the question becomes
HOW DO I proclaim
GOD and Jesus
Outside the church


And the ANSWER to that
Is as DIFFERENT
As there is
NUMBER of people who BELIEVE in God


I do it
THROUGH poems and birthday cards


And I SUGGEST you do it
IN WHATEVER WAYS
WORKS with your own personality


You don't have
To be loud
About it


You just
HAVE to do it


IF you want
God and Christ
TO SURVIVE in today's world and beyond

LISTENING really REQUIRES taking to HEART what is being said-IF GOD had hand picked you for ONE of HIS DISCIPLES 2000 years ago-what would you have said-OR IF JESUS was handpicking you TODAY-in the 21^st century-WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

LISTENING TO YOUR INNER EAR




DO you know
That you have
An inner ear


YOUR inner ear
Is actually called your heart


IF you look at the word “heart”
Inside the h and the t
Is the word “EAR”


And that is
What we need to listen to
What we need TO OBEY
Our heart
When we are speaking to God


“I will allure her
I will lead her into the desert
And speak to her heart” Hosea 2:16


In this passage
Of Hosea
God is leading Israel
Into the desert


With tenderness
Like a husband
Has for a devoted wife


In the old testament
The desert
Was a place
WHERE a person went
TO FIND GOD


It was solitude
AWAY from the familiar


It was where
A person would
NOT just hear God
But where a person
COULD feel God


In the desert
And RIGHT in his own heart


“PRAISE you Lord
I will
Praise the Lord
With my whole heart


In the assembly
Of the upright
And in the congregation” Psalm 111:1


“I will praise thee
With my WHOLE HEART


Before the gods
I will SING
Praise to thee” Psalm 138:1


The OLD testament people
They listened to God
With their INNER EAR


THEY listened to God
With their whole heart


And WHEN it came time
To pick his disciples
Jesus didn't look for those
Who followed
The LETTER of the law
The pharisees and the sadducees


HE looked to those
With the inner ear
He looked to those
WITH HEART


He chose fishermen
He even chose a tax collector
And the woman he chose
Was a woman
BESET BY SEVEN DEMONS


BUT they had one thing
In common
They had the inner ear


They had compassion
THEY HAD HEART


WE his disciples
Of the 21^st century
We NEED to have that inner ear
We need
TO HAVE HEART TOO


Dear Lord-we pray
That like the people
In the desert


Like your apostles
Of yesteryear


HELP us
To have that inner ear

JOURNAL=MERCY-NOT JUDGMENT




“Looking around at them with anger and grieved AT THEIR HARDNESS OF HEARTS-he said to the man-'STRETCH OUT your hand'-he stretched it out and his hand was RESTORED” Mark 3:5




JESUS was often at odds with the Pharisees-who believed that their were 613 religious decrees that every Jew should follow-THEY BECAME ANGRY when Jesus healed the man with the withered hand on the Sabbath day-Jesus explained to them that good deeds TAKE PRECEDENCE over strict observance of Sabbath REST


SOMETIMES we have to act with MERCY-just as Jesus did-even IF it means ignoring some tradition
SOMETIMES we must ask ourselves IF we are rejecting the law or fulfilling the law
Jesus was the FULFILLMENT of the law as he was PERFECT LOVE-and WHEN we act in genuine MERCY toward somebody else out of LOVE-we are attempting to act as Jesus would


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to show someone MERCY

Who
Who are you
Who am I
To be passing judgment on someone else
In today’s world


Give mercy
Give compassion
Give someone a free pass
Give someone love
God’s love


Look at the story of Daniel
Did you know
That the name Daniel means
“God is my judge”


Daniel goes public
He confesses his sin
And the sins of God’s people


How can Daniel
Be so sure
God will forgive him
Forgive them


Because Daniel knows
That he has the history of God
On his side


Daniel knows
That our God
Is a God of love and compassion
He has rescued his people
Over and over again


God saved
Daniel’s 3 friends
From the blazing furnace
God saved Daniel himself
From the lion’s den


And in Luke 7
We find Jesus saying,
“Do not judge
Or you too will be judged
For in the same way
That you judge others
You will be judged
And with the measure you use
It will
Be measured against you”


Take Daniel as your model
Give mercy---give love


Take Jesus
As your model
And as your God


Because giving someone else mercy
And not judgment
Is God’s way


Give someone love
Give someone a free pass
And do it TODAY

BUT have your VALUES changed-IF they have-I HOPE they have changed for the better-a little more HONEST-a little more upright-LIVING WITH more LOVE-FORGIVENESS and KINDNESS than ever before


FOR IF you are living that way-you are growing CLOSER to GOD-for after all-they are GOD'S QUALITIES


DEAR LORD-we thank you for being a PART of our life-the ONE whose holiness-truth and LOVE endures FOREVER-LORD-you are OUR ROCK

The days when you feel good

Our Lord said
The people of this world
Are smarter

In just one way


They are consistent
In serving themselves
They are consistent
In their selfishness


We are living in this world
But we have to make a choice
Are we living
By the world’s values
Or-are we living by God’s values


“No one can serve two masters
Either he will hate the one
And love the other
Or he will be devoted
To the one
And despite the other
You CANNOT serve both GOD and money” Matthew 6:24


So we know
We ALL have to make a choice


“For where your treasure is
There your heart will also be” Matthew 6:21


The people of this world
Are consistent
In serving themselves


ARE WE—the people of God
CONSISTENT in serving the Lord

Of crops and desires to store them-he says to himself:

Take life easy; eat, drink, and be merry”


But God says to him:

Then who will get what you have prepared for himself”


“Serve wholeheartedly

JOURNAL=THE CHOICE-FLESH versus the SPIRIT

“IN the days WHEN he was in the FLESH-he offered PRAYERS and supplications........” Hebrews 5:7

In a POETIC MANNER-the BOOK of Hebrews refers to the years that Jesus lived on the earth as “DAYS when he was in the FLESH”

SINCE we are NOT God-all our days on this earth are spent in the flesh-yet we ALL-have a decision to make-ARE we going to LIVE pursuing “earthly” pleasure-or ARE WE going to live by the SPIRIT that Jesus CHRIST left behind for us-THAT same SPIRIT he walked this earth with

WE CAN do this by LIVING as a man or woman of GOD-dedicating ourselves to LOVING GOD and LOVING others-or we can do this by LOVING our family and DEDICATING our family to God-and/or BOTH

WHAT we CANNOT do is pursue earthly pleasures with NO REGARD to God and to others and just think of and PLEASURING OURSELVES-in whatever manner we choose to do so

THIS IS our ONE AND ONLY CHANCE to BUILD a life with FAITH-HOPE-and LOVE and to do GOOD WORKS-MAY we BUILD a life that is FOREVER PLEASING to God

it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day to CHOOSE GOD and LIVING in the SPIRIT

THE CHOICE: FLESH VERSUS THE SPIRIT

WE all have a choice

In life

To LIVE by the flesh

Or live by the SPIRIT

“YOU were called for freedom

Brothers and sisters

But do NOT use this freedom

As an opportunity

For the flesh

Rather

SERVE one another

Through love” Galatians 5:13

So the question becomes

What does BEING FREE

Really mean

And HOW

Can we attain it

THE TRUTH IS

We are ALL a slave

To something or someone

In this world

That is WHERE addictions come in

We have

SLAVES to sex

We have slaves

To money and materialism

We have

Slaves to drugs

Slaves to alcohol

And many other forms

Of slavery in this world

In the eight chapter

Os Saint John’s Gospel

Jesus tells us:

“IF you

Hold to my teachings

You really are

My disciples

Then you will know

The truth

And the truth

Will set you free” John 8:31-32

Jesus goes on:

“I tell you the truth

Everyone who sins

Is a SLAVE to sin

NOW a slave

Has no permanent place

In the family

BUT A SON

Belongs to it FOREVER

So if the SON sets you FREE

You will be FREE indeed” John 8:34-36

There you have it

THE CHOICE

The choice

Is between GOD AND FAMILY

And being a slave

To the things of this world

CHOOSE THE SPIRIT

CHOOSE GOD

CHOOSE FAMILY

Pope John Paul II once said:

“FREEDOM consists

NOT in doing what we like

But in having THE RIGHT

To do what we ought”

So the PATHWAY

To freedom

Comes through SERVING others IN LOVE

LOVE GOD
LOVE OTHERS

What Jesus told us

ARE the GREATEST commandments

So-in doing this

We GROW beyond our selfishness

And serve others through our love

AND FIND LIFE

In and though God

“The mind of sinful man

Is death

But he mind controlled

BY THE SPIRIT-IS LIFE AND PEACE” Romans 8:6

NOW that I am 60-I have to admit-sometimes I FORGET-what I am looking for-WHEN I walk into a room-my keys-my wallet-or more often than not-MY GLASSES


I SUSPECT that is the way it becomes for us in life-but the TRUTH IS-we are ALL searching for our creator-and a LIFE FILLED WITH GOD


DO NOT forget your primary MISSION in life-and that is to LOVE AND SERVE GOD and others
DEAR GOD-I LOOK for you in ALL I do today-and in the FACE of ALL OTHERS

I think it is KEY
That GOD UNDERSTANDS every motive
For if we seek him
For our OWN ulterior gain

This is what happened
To me
I have been
PURELY seeking God-I think-
Since I was 22 years old
And I have NO IDEA
HOW I have made it this far


I BELIEVE
God has INTERCEDED for me
THROUGH OTHERS


Parents-siblings-friends-and neighbors


I will be 59 years old
Next year
And I HAVE FOUND GOD
IN THE DEEPEST DARKNESS
OF MY OWN SOUL


And God
Has FILLED that darkness
WITH HIS LIGHT=
THE LIGHT of HIS OWN SON
And the light
Of the sun


“Therefore
Do not worry about tomorrow
For tomorrow
Will take care of itself


EACH DAY
Has trouble enough

Fifty-nine years old next January
FOOD on the table
A ROOF over my head
And MORE loving family

Than a person

WHEN we look into the mirror-we see a REFLECTION of our very selves-but ONLY of our physical self-it REVEALS very little of who and what we are INSIDE


WE CAN CHANGE our physical appearance in an ATTEMPT to CONCEAL our physical flaws-but ONE question will always REMAIN: ARE WE LOVABLE


AND the ANSWER for every one of us IS A resounding “YES”-for GOD broke the mold when he made you-there is NO ONE ELSE on earth exactly like you-and GOD loves you with an UNCONDITIONAL and UNENDING LOVE


WE ALL yearn to be ACCEPTED and and LOVED-and no mirror can do that; ONLY GOD-ONLY GOD-ONLY the one who MADE US can LOVE us completely-and ONCE we learn to ACCEPT that-we can LEARN to love OURSELVES and then others


DEAR LORD-we pray that we learn to see ourselves in you-for we were ALL MADE “IN the IMAGE and likeness of GOD”


it is a GREAT to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day for learning to love ourselves-so we CAN TRULY pass on our LOVE TO OTHERS












UNCONDITIONAL AND UNENDING




Unconditional and unending
That is what GOD'S LOVE is
For you


Do you believe that


The same-as a father
Or mother's love
For their VERY OWN CHILDREN


“WHICH one of you

That is
Who and what God is to us
OUR PARENT


He gives us time
He gives us energy
And is utterly SELFLESS
In making himself available
To us


He loves us immeasurably

Is UNCONDITIONAL and UNENDING
The SAME as a parent
For their very own children


Love unconditional
Love unending
Love untraditional
Love FOREVER from our God


His love is UNFAILING

And that is what we get
From God our Father

WE LIVE in an age WHEN many miracles in so many areas of human life occur-MOST called “scientific” miracles and we leave God out of the picture-IN JESUS' day there were many magicians and sorcerers who dazzled the crowds-and I suspect that most people considered Jesus of this category



BUT the ONE MIRACLE that only Jesus could perform-BOTH in his day-and today-is the miracle of forgiveness-AND through the GRACE OF GOD-we can forgive others-because Jesus has FORGIVEN US



THE MIRACLE OF FORGIVENESS- belongs only to God-and to those who follow God-may you EXPERIENCE that miracle today



it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a great day to give and RECEIVE the miracle of forgiveness

“WE have become PARTNERS of CHRIST IF only we hold the BEGINNING of the reality firm-UNTIL THE END........” Hebrews 3:14


ARE YOU a father or a mother-DO YOU LOVE your child GREATER than yourself-WELL that is HOW GOD LOVES you and-and how GOD expects us to LOVE others


WHATEVER our vocation in life (married-single-or religious life)-life PRESENTS us the opportunity for us to be FAITHFUL to GOD again and again-sometimes being FAITHFUL can make us look like a hero-but more often than not-being FAITHFUL is anonymous and sometimes thankless-nevertheless I
would rather LIVE a faithful-selfless life-than a selfish one


NONE of us will ever be totally selfless-but the question we NEED to ask ourselves today is: WILL I be FAITHFUL in loving GOD and loving others


it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day to be FAITHFUL to the PROMISES OF GOD

SELFISHNESS OR SELFLESSNESS




Are you like me
Have you noticed
What a selfish---me first world
That we live in


And seemingly---at least to me anyway
Getting more so every day


When were the last times
That you heard the words
“Please” and “Thank you”


I hear them
But NOT very often


“Turn my heart
Toward your statutes
And not toward selfish gain” Psalm119:36


It seems like
That we live in a world
That tells us
Beauty/looks is what it is all about


BUT GOD TELLS US
That beauty is
A matter of the heart


Like the advertising slogan says
It really is
“What is inside that counts”


The world tells us
---preaches to us
That wealth, money, materialism
Will make us happy
And to get it
Whatever way we can
Just get it


“An unfriendly man
Pursues selfish ends
He defies all sound judgment” Proverbs 18:1


Have you ever smiled
And said hello to a stranger
And they look at you
Like you just assaulted them


Or you do something kind
For someone
And they look at you
And wonder what your motivation is


When did our world
Become so cynical
What has happened to us


“Do nothing out of selfish ambition
Or vain conceit
But in humility
Consider others better than yourselves” Philippians 2:3


And then
We have the people
Who live out of selflessness
Who give up their lives for others
To try to make the world
A better place for all


People like
Abraham, Moses, Jesus
And in more recent time
Men like Martin Luther King,
And John and Robert Kennedy


And just simple ordinary folks
Like you and me
Trying to live their lives
Trying to get along
But taking the time
To stop and be kind to others


We just need to remember,


“Each of you should look
NOT only to your own self interest
