WE have been given SO MUCH by God-to START with-we live in the GREATEST country ever WHERE
freedom is taken for granted-and we ARE CHILDREN of God-brothers and sisters and CO-HEIRS with Christ

it is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a GREAT day to ACCEPT all that has been given to us by God-and RETURN to him OUR LOVE
















TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN


Alonzo Mourning
Was a 15-year player
In the NBA


He was twice voted
“NBA Defensive Player of the Year”
And on April 7^th, 2014
He was voted into the
“NAISMITH MEMORIAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME”


He has undergone a kidney transplant
And currently works for the Miami Heat
As VP of player programs
And development for the Heat
And also has had his number retired
By the Miami Heat


He GIVES much back
To the community
And is co-founder
Of the Overtown Youth Center


He recently said:


“The bible says
'to whom much is given
much will be required'
and I totally believe that”


Wouldn't it be great
If more of us
In this world
Had that SAME attitude


We may
Not all have as much as “ZO”
as he is affectionately called


But we ALL have something
To GIVE BACK to others
Even if it is just
Our life itself


For each of us can smile
Or offer a handshake
Each of us
Can USE our words
To BUILD someone up
Rather than tear someone down

If we don't have much materially
We can give someone
A full meal
We can give someone
Who is cold

For a cup of coffee


“He has scattered abroad

And nothing
We ever do
For someone else
Should be done for credit
Or for honor


JUST BECAUSE
It is the RIGHT THING

Our Lord KNOWS
What we do
At all times
And whether or not
Our motives are PURE

Give the needy


Do NOT let your left hand

Your right hand is doing


So that your giving
May be in SECRET


Then your FATHER
Who sees
What is done in secret

If there are to be any

Are you seeking God

I think it is KEY
That GOD UNDERSTANDS every motive
For if we seek him
For our OWN ulterior gain
It will be impossible
To find him

This is what happened
To me
I have been
PURELY seeking God-I think-
Since I was 22 years old
And I have NO IDEA
HOW I have made it this far


I BELIEVE
God has INTERCEDED for me
THROUGH OTHERS


Parents-siblings-friends-and neighbors


I will be 59 years old
Next year
And I HAVE FOUND GOD
IN THE DEEPEST DARKNESS
OF MY OWN SOUL


And God
Has FILLED that darkness
WITH HIS LIGHT=
THE LIGHT of HIS OWN SON
And the light
Of the sun


“Therefore
Do not worry about tomorrow

At the end
Of the Xth chapter
Of Saint Luke’s gospel
Jesus tells us the story
Of 2 sisters


The two sisters were Martha and Mary
And they often opened their home
To Jesus and the disciples


Martha was disturbed---preoccupied if you will
With all the preparations
That had to me made for the dinner


Mary sat quietly at Jesus’ feet
Hovering on every word
That came out of his mouth


Martha was upset
Because she was doing all the work
And said,


“Lord don’t you care
That my sister has left me
To do all the work by myself
Tell her to help me”


Jesus’ answer is astounding,


“Martha Martha
You are worried and upset
About many things
But only ONE THING is needed
Mary has chosen what is better
And it will NOT BE
Taken away from her”


Work needs to be done
In this world
There is no doubt about that


But what Jesus
Is trying to Teach Martha ( and us )
Is that
There is a time and a place
For everything


Work needs to be done
And will be done


But GOD, family, and people
Should always come first


CHOOSE THE BETTER PART


How true it was then
How true it is today


In this fast-paced---me-first world
That we live in
We think
Everything hinges on us


The truth is
EVERYTHING HINGES ON GOD


Work needs to be done
Work will get done
But everything in its proper time and place


Martha must have
Learned her lesson
Because after her brother, Lazarus, died,
And Jesus was three days late in arriving


Jesus said to Martha,
“I AM the Resurrection and the Life
He who believes in me will live
Even though he died
And whoever lives and believes in me
Will NEVER DIE
Do you believe this” ( Luke 11 )


Martha responded,


“Yes Lord
I believe that you are the Christ
The SON OF GOD
Who has come into this world”


Lazarus did RISE and live again
With his sisters Martha and Mary


And so Lord we do pray
That in this fast-paced---me-first world
That we live in


Help us to ALWAYS REMEMBER
That you have made us FOR YOURSELF---DEAR LORD
And that you love us
With a never-ending---ever-lasting love

ONE of the most central questions that we have to ask ourselves is:  "ARE WE TEACHABLE/"

As Christ

These are our crosses

We unite them with Christ’s own sufferings
We can still create a beautiful life
Despite the crosses-that we may carry


Look at JOB
He was an example


“Brothers-as an example of patience
In the face of suffering
Take the prophets
Who spoke
In the name of the Lord


As you know
We consider blessed
Those who have PERSEVERED


You have
Heard of Job’s perseverance
And have seen
What the Lord finally brought about


The Lord is

I recently spent a FEW day in the hospital-couldn't keep nothing down INCLUDING water-
I have been mostly RESTING and recuperating for the past week-HOPE to be UP and writing regularly
SOON-LOVE YOU ALL!

WHEN AND WHERE
Did you first
Begin to
REALLY find God
In your life


The TRUTH of the matter is
We only
First begin to find God
WHEN we are broken
When we don't know where

God is usually found
In MAJOR life changes


Like illness
Like finances
Like broken relationships
Or in a career change


Something significant
Has changed in our life
Something disturbing or unsettling
Comes to LIVE in our heart


We become broken


For me
The year was 1977
I had just come
Out of my third life/death surgery
Within a year


The doctors still didn't know what was wrong
With me


Yet I still
Couldn't get out of bed
I was broken
I was useless


I laid in my bed
In my room
Pouring out my heart and soul
To God


Asking him for help
Asking him-to LEAD me


“I have found David
The son of Jesse


A man
After my own heart


He will do everything
I want him too” Acts 13:22


I was a man
AFTER God's own heart
I was a man
After God's leadership


Just laying in my bed
EVERY night
PRAYING for a different direction
Any direction to go


“For where your TREASURE is

I was TOTALLY broken
No health
No money
No relationship
No job


SICK-but no reason


I drove to
The Woods Run library
I read
EVERYTHING there was to read


As I crawled
Around the aisles
READING book after book
I became CONVINCED
I had Crohn's disease


I drove to my surgeon's office
With my findings
Waiting for him
To believe in my
SELF-called breakthrough


It didn't happen
he told me
I was crazy


I remained undeterred


“BUT if you
SHALL seek the Lord
You shall find him


IF you seek him
With ALL your heart
And with
ALL YOUR SOUL” Deuteronomy 4:29


In July of 1981
A doctor found
The inflammatory bowel disease


I can still see
His face
HE WAS STUNNED


The Doctor apologized to me
And said:


“You should be the doctor”


I can still SEE his face


ALONE in my room
Broken and bewildered
I FOUND GOD


And I know
That you can too

ONE of the toughest things for us to remember is that the Lord will NEVER abandon us-for many of us self-doubt is the biggest demon that we face

The Lord OUR GOD loves you-and me-and everyone of us

"Nor height-nor depth-nor any other creature-shall  be able to separate us from the LOVE OF GOD-which is in Christ Jesus our Lord"

WE NEED a strong living FAITH in today's world-BECAUSE when times get tough-and they get tough for all of us at one time or another-we need SOMETHING to fall back on

WE do not have the resources-WITHIN OURSELVES-to embrace life to its fullest-LIKE Peter said:
"WHERE would we run to Lord-you POSSESS the WORDS of EVERLASTING LIFE"

In Luke 17
The Apostles ask Jesus
To increase their faith


Jesus replies,
“If you have faith
As small as a mustard seed
You can say to the mulberry tree
Be uprooted
And planted in the sea
And it will obey”

That if we have enough faith

Change this world


If we do---have that faith

PERFORMANCE IS A CHOICE




EVERYTHING in life
Is a choice


Either a conscious choice
Or a subconscious choice
Which is a REFLECTION
Of our inner attitudes and values


WE choose our mates
We choose our career
And we choose our religion


In truth
We even choose LIFE
Or death by our own actions
In some circumstances


And we choose
IF we have an after life
By whether or not
We KEEP the ten commandments
Or what Jesus told us
Were the two GREATEST commandments


LOVE OF GOD
And LOVE OF OTHERS


CHOOSE life
CHOOSE PERFORMANCE
CHOOSE being a representative
Of God


“This day
I call heaven and earth
As witnesses against you


That I have set before you
BLESSINGS and curses
LIFE and death


NOW CHOOSE LIFE
So that you
And your children may live” Deuteronomy 30:19


And just as it is true
IF we prepare properly
We are GOOD at a career


And train properly
We can be GOOD at athletics


IT IS TRUE
That we can be REPRESENTATIVES of God
If we prepare and are TRUE to GOD’S WORD


PERFORMANCE is a choice
Being a representative
Of God
IS A CHOICE


And God CHOSE us
Even before
We had the opportunity to choose him


“You did not choose me
But I chose you
And appointed you
To go
And BEAR FRUIT-
FRUIT THAT WILL LAST


Then the FATHER
Will give you
Whatever you ask in my name


This is my command
LOVE EACH OTHER” John 15:16-17


And he SHOWED us
HOW to live perfectly in life
In life-and in DEATH


So Christ told us
And showed us
As did Saint Francis
Who bore the wounds of Christ
In the stigmata-on HIS BODY


And Saint Francis told us
“SPEAK the gospel
At ALL times
And USE words if necessary”


So to perform for God
Is a choice
OUR CHOICE


Performance includes actions
OUR ACTIONS


REMEMBER-your performance
In your job requires actions


As does
BELIEF IN GOD


“CHOOSE for yourselves-THIS DAY
WHOM you will serve
But as for me and my household

That is God
Talking to you and to me

That is God
Telling us
To LEAN on him


We need God's DIVINE STRENGTH
That is what ALLOWS us
To face
The most challenging of situations


WE NEED God


For if
We try to do it alone
We just limp along
Without the inner strength
That comes from God


“It is the Lord
Who arms me with strength
And MAKES MY WAY perfect” 2 Samuel 22:33


We need to lean
On the one
Who PROMISES
To be there for us


And-IN FACT
ALWAYS is there for us


DIVINE STRENGTH
In the most challenging
Of situations
Is what we NEED
To get us through


“LEAN ON ME
When you're not strong
And I'll be your FRIEND


For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need someone
TO LEAN ON”


We all need God
AND EACH OTHER
To make it through

Who are you going to trust


TRUST IN THE LORD


We live in a time
When almost all miracles
Are called medical miracles


We are leaving God
OUT OF THE PICTURE


How would you define the word “miracle”


I would define the word “miracle”
As when you’ve come
To the end of what medical science can do
Or-is willing to do
GOD-THE CREATOR AND THE SPIRIT OF LIFE-takes over


What has happened
In my life
Is definitely a “GOD” miracle
And I am proud
To boast in the Lord


TRUST IN THE LORD


In 1977-I walked away from
Peritonitis-gangrene-surgical shock- and a 108 degree temperature


Yet here I am


In additional years in the late 1970’s
And early 1980’s
I walked away-three times
From critical situations
That overlapped my birthday


“Vindicate me-oh Lord
For I have led a blameless life
I have trusted in the Lord
Without wavering” Psalm 26:1


I don’t pretend
EVEN TO MYSELF
That I have lived a blameless life


But I will tell you this
I HAVE TRUSTED in the Lord our God
TRUSTED-over and over again


And so
As I face some more
Difficult medical decisions
I will tell you this


I have NOTHING
Against medical science
But I am
GOING TO TRUST IN THE LORD


The Lord our God
Has given me miracle after miracle
In my life


WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST?


God gave me LIFE once in 1955
He gave me life a second time-in 1977
He has performed MIRACLE AFTER MIRACLE
In my life


WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST?


“But if SERVING the Lord
Seems undesirable to you
Then choose for yourself-THIS DAY
Whom you will serve
Whether the gods your forefathers served
Beyond the river
Or the gods of the Amorites
In whose land you are living


But as for me

You—one of John’s disciples

From that moment on

John himself said,
“I must decrease---and he must increase”
From that moment on
John’s disciples followed Jesus


So must it be with us
If we are truly to become other Christ’s
In this world


We must die to ourselves---our selfish sinful selves
And as Jesus himself said,
“If anyone would come after me
He must deny himself
And take up his cross
And follow me” Mark 8:31


We live in a Godless society
Becoming a little more so each day


A poet once wrote:
“He has
No hands but your hands
He has no feet
But your feet
He has no mouth
But your mouth…….”


If God’s word
Is to truly come alive again
In today’s world
It is up to us


Saint Paul once said,
“I have been crucified with Christ
And I no longer live
But Christ lives in me


The life I live in the body
I live by faith in the Son of God
Who loved me
And gave himself for me” Galatians 2:20


Each one of us
Has been handcrafted by God
Our own unique selves
To live a life---and do a job
That no one else can do
Only us


And part of that job
Is to make God come alive again
In today’s world


Finally---dear Lord
We pray
That you shine in us and through us


And we become so much like you
That when the world looks at us
It sees no longer us

We try not to do that
We try to live the truth

In the 18^th chapter
Of Saint John's gospel
Pontius Pilate asks Jesus,


“WHAT is TRUTH?” John 18:38


This comes
In response
To Jesus' answer
To Pilate about
WHETHER He is king


Jesus answered,


“YOU are right
In saying
I am a king


In fact
For this reason
I was born
And for this
I came into the world
To TESTIFY
TO THE TRUTH


EVERYONE on the side of truth
LISTENS to me” John 18:39


So like Pilate
We MUST ask ourselves
WHAT IS TRUTH


“I am the way
The TRUTH
And the life


NO ONE
Comes to the Father
Except through me” John 14:6


SO LIVE Jesus


LOVE love love God and others
Live live live Jesus
Give give give
Till it hurts


LIVE the truth
Let your light shine


KNOWING the answer is easy
Living the answer is hard


For example
WHEN you have 2 one dollar bills
In your pocket
Are you going to give a beggar a $1
Who is asking for a $1


I HAVE done it
But more often than not
I am ASHAMED to say
I haven't done it


LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE


“WHOEVER lives the truth

The truth is

We are not

COMPASSION




One of the single greatest gifts
That we can possess
Is the gift of Compassion


Compassion is simply the gift
Of having empathy for
Or showing kindness
To another human being


The reason so few of us have it is
It is simply so much easier
To judge another person
And the place that they are in
In their lives


It is much more difficult
To walk in another man or woman’s shoes
Or to go the extra mile
With another human being


But that is-WHO GOD IS
That is-WHO CHRIST WAS
And who Christ is-still today


“The Lord, the Lord
The COMPASSIONATE and gracious God
Slow to anger
Abounding in love and faithfulness
Maintaining love to thousands
And forgiving wickedness, rejection and sin” Exodus 34:6-7


“Jesus called his disciples and said,
“I have COMPASSION for these people
They have already been with me for three days
And have nothing to eat
If I send them home hungry
They will collapse on the way
Because some of them
Have come a long distance” Mark 8:2-3


How easy it is to judge
When we walk by the homeless
Or a beggar on the street
To think:


“I would never do that”
Or
“That could never be me”


What if we gave that person
A $ or two
Shook their hand
And said:
“Have a nice day”


COMPASSION


The time a person
Needs our help
Is exactly the time
When that person feels LEAST LOVABLE


Well it is easy to judge
NOT so easy
To FEEL for another human being
To walk a mile in their shoes


“Let us NOT become weary
Of doing good


For at the proper time
We will reap a harvest
If we do not give up


Therefore as we have opportunity
Let us DO GOOD to all people
Especially to those
Who belong
To the family of believers” Galatians 6:9-10


COMPASSION---not judgment


Because God’s love for us
Christ’s love for us
IS UNCONDITIONAL
And this is his mercy
This is his compassion for us


“I desire mercy-not sacrifice” Matthew 9:13

Thank God
God does take control

WHEN
I think back
To the times in my life
When my prayers went unanswered
For a certain someone
Or a certain something
When I felt unfulfilled


I think of the line
From a Garth Brooks song,
“Sometimes I thank God
For unanswered prayers”


But I can honestly tell you
I have always remained
Or at least tried to remain
In the words of God and Christ


How about you
Have you gotten everything-everyone
That you wanted in your life


I HOPE NOT


But I am sure that
You can look back and see God’s hand in your life


I KNOW that you are a GOD-LOVING
God-fearing person
And your life
Has brought about much fruit


“This is to my Father’s glory
That you bear much fruit
Showing yourselves to be my disciples” John 15:8


You didn’t always get what you wanted
But you always received
What you needed
For your life


If it was a necessity
And you are a God follower


“Remain in me
And I will remain in you


NO TREE
Can bear fruit by itself
Neither can you bear fruit
Unless you remain in me” John 15:4


Remain in God’s word
And he will remain in you
And because you are a child of God


You will have ETERNAL life


We are children of God
And he REMAINS ALIVE in us


“Let no debt remain outstanding
Except the continuing debt
To love one another
For he who loves his fellowman
Has FULFILLED the law” Romans 13:8

"At the sight of the crowds-His heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned-LIKE sheep without a shepherd-THEN he said to his disciples-  "'THE HARVEST is abundant but the laborers are few-so ASK the master of the harvest to send out laborers for HIS HARVEST'"
Matthew 9:36-38


A couple of questions we have to ask ourselves are:

WHERE are you going to work for GOD'S KINGDOM today?      and

WHO are you going to call IF trouble calls on you today?

IT IS a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a GREAT DAY to KNOW that God NEVER abandons us-is ALWAYS there for us-in times of trouble





















WHO ARE YOU GOING TO CALL




There is
A popular car dealer down here in Miami
Whose commercial slogan is,


“Who are you going to call?”


Well-that is a good question


Who are we
Going to call
In times of trouble


Of course-we are
Going to call on our family
Of course-we are
Going to call on our friends


But we might be forgetting
The most important entity
We might be forgetting the OMNIPOTENT ONE


We might be
-In times of trouble
Leaving out the most important one


“In this world
You will have trouble
But take courage
I have conquered the world” John 16:33


Jesus never tried
To sugar coat the trouble
We would face in this world


Why would he
He faced every single trouble
We will ever face
And then some


And he won the battle
Why would he
Ever call on anybody else


Who are you
Going to call


“God is our refuge
And strength
And ever present help
In trouble” Psalm 46:1


And Jesus is the representative
The son-The very SON OF GOD
That we Christians know


Why would he
Ever even think
Of calling on somebody else


So whatever our troubles are
And GOD KNOWS
That we ALL have them


Let us keep our eyes
On the ONE
Who is GREATER than the trouble


And the ONE
Who is waiting for us
To claim victory
Just as HE HIMSELF did

How would you
Define the word gift


I would define it
As something given to you
Of value
Usually by one person
To another


Unfortunately for us
We human beings
Usually define gifts
As something we can touch
Or feel


Fortunately for us
GOD KNOWS
That the lessons that we learn
In life
Are of MUCH greater value
Than anything
That can be measured materially
Or of material value


“But the gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE
In Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 6:23


That is
IF we are believers
And if
We do our best
To live by the GOLDEN RULE
And the TWO GREATEST COMMANDMENTS


One of my favorite movies
Is a 2007 movie
Called, “The Ultimate Gift”


It is the story
Of a love-hate relationship
Between a wealthy grandfather
And his grandson-the black sheep of the family


When the wealthy grandfather dies
All the rest of the family
Show up to claim their inheritance
That they are sure is theirs


They get nothing


The black sheep-the grandson- a young man-
Named Jason Stevens
Gets nothing too


But he does get a crash course
In life-via video tape-from his belated grandfather


This crash course
That his grandfather has devised
Leads him to finding out
That giving and happiness
Is what is important in life
Not money


God and Christ
Has left us an inheritance too
But like the spoiled young grandson
We too
Must learn
That what is important is LOVE
In order to inherit it


“But the meek
Will in inherit the earth
And enjoy great peace” Psalm 37:11


“Having believed
You were marked in him
With a seal
The promised Holy Spirit
Who is a deposit
Guaranteeing our inheritance
Until the redemption
Of those who are God’s possession
To the praise of his glory” Ephesians 1:14


Dear Lord-we pray
That we learn
Like young Jason Stevens-in the movie
THE ULTIMATE GIFT in life
Is what really matters:


IT is LOVE-not sex
It is GIVING-not receiving or selfishness
It is FORGIVING-not vengeance
AND IT IS GOD AND FAMILY-not money


And Dear Lord, we pray
That we DO learn our lessons in life
And that we DO
Put them into practice


And may our inheritance be

Decisions of health
Decisions of finances
And MANY relationship issues


We have to accumulate
All the information
Then we have
To make a decision


For IF GOD is with us
What does it matter
Who is against us


For we are
NEVER ALONE


LET GO-and let God


“Therefore
In the present case
I advise you
Leave these men alone


Let them go
For if their purpose
Or activity
Is of human origin
It will FAIL


But IF it is FROM GOD
You will not be able
To stop these men
You will only find yourselves
Fighting against God” Acts 5:38-39


TRUST in God
BELIEVE in God
Have FAITH in God


WE ARE NEVER ALONE


But HOW do we know
IF our work
Is from God
Or of human origin


Have faith
IF it is supposed to be
IT WILL BE
If it is of God
If it is meant to be
It will be-IT WILL SURVIVE


WE ARE NEVER ALONE


And for a concrete example
ALL we have to do
Is look at JESUS’ own life


HIS WORK SURVIVED
HIS WORDS SURVIVED


“Caiaphas-who was the high priest
That year-spoke up


‘You know nothing at all
You do not realize
That it is better for you
That ONE MAN die for the people
Than that the whole nation perish” John 11:49-50


But Jesus did NOT die
HIS WORK survived
Because like us

I have long felt
That today


The BATTLE
Is no longer between
The theology
Of the different religions


But the battle
Is between
SECULARISM and the church
ALL CHURCHES


And secularism
Is winning in a landslide


I BELIEVE
Less and less people
Are committed to God
In today's world


And I believe
This is particularly so
In the younger generation


SECULARISM is defined
As religious skepticism or INDIFFERENCE
And takes up the view


That religious consideration
Should be excluded
From civil affairs or public education


AND I have to tell you
I COULDN'T DISAGREE with this view
Any more than I do


COLDNESS-indifference-and ingratitude
IS KILLING GOD in this world
And killing God worse
Than the actual nailing
Of Jesus
To the cross


GOD is SLOWLY DYING
In this world
Maybe not on the cross


But in PEOPLE'S MINDS AND HEARTS


The church is DEFINED as BOTH
The local assemblies of CHRISTIANS
And the world wide
Community of BELIEVERS


In other words
The church
IS NOT the place
That we go to
On Saturday and Sunday


But made up
Of the MINDS AND HEARTS
Of the people
WHO BELIEVE IN CHRIST


So it is up to us believers
To TAKE GOD AND CHRISTIANITY
With us
WHEREVER WE GO


To the market place
To the drug stores
To the mall
To WHEREVER we go


After all
That is
What the EARLY BELIEVERS did


“AND ALL DAY LONG
Both at the temple
And in their homes


They did not stop teaching
And PROCLAIMING the Christ-Jesus” Acts 5:42


So the question becomes
HOW DO I proclaim
GOD and Jesus
Outside the church


And the ANSWER to that
Is as DIFFERENT
As there is
NUMBER of people who BELIEVE in God


I do it
THROUGH poems and birthday cards


And I SUGGEST you do it
IN WHATEVER WAYS
WORKS with your own personality


You don't have
To be loud
About it


You just
HAVE to do it


IF you want
God and Christ
TO SURVIVE in today's world and beyond

"JUSTICE and PEACE shall meet"    Psalm 85:11

Psalm 85 reminds us that justice and peace are UNITED in a single gesture of kindness and love and that justice and peace are joined together at the DESIRES of God's HEART

and Matthew 9 tells us:  BLESSED are the peacemakers for they shall be called the CHILDREN OF GOD-
Saint Elizabeth of Portugal-whose feast day it is today-was a TRUE peacemaker as she worked for the DIGNITY of ALL GOD'S CHILDREN

it truly is A GREAT DAY to be ALIVE and look forward to LIVING in a world with you LORD-where justice and PEACE will UNITE US ALL














JUSTICE-WHERE DO YOU FIND IT




For the umpteenth time
This week in Miami
I have seen someone on television
Crying out for someone
To come forward
So the can get JUSTICE
For a family member who has been WRONGED


We ALL
Have INJUSTICES in life
And often times
LIFE JUST ISN’T FAIR


WHERE do you get your justice


“Do NOT put your trust
In mortal men
WHO CANNOT SAVE” Psalm 146:3


“BLESSED is he
Whose HELP
IS the God of Jacob
Whose HOPE
Is in the LORD HIS GOD” Psalm 146:5


IT’S GREAT
If we can find justice
In this world


It’s great
If we can find justice
In the LAWS of our world


IF LIFE
Treats us fairly


But you know
As well as I do
That that
Doesn’t always happen


The Lord Our God
HATES INJUSTICE


“SEEK GOOD-not evil
That you MAY LIVE
Then the Lord God Almighty
Will be with you
Just as you say he is


HATE evil-love good
Maintain JUSTICE in the courts” Amos 5:14-15


The Lord God
Hates injustice


“He has showed you
Oh man
What is good


And what does the Lord
Require of you


To act justly
And to LOVE MERCY
And to WALK HUMBLY
With Your God” Micah 6:8


Those who act unjustly
Those who show NO MERCY
In this world
Will receive their punishment
From the Lord


But those of us
WHO ACT JUSTLY
Who show mercy to others
Will be FREED from guilt or blame
BY FAITH


“But NOW
A righteousness from God
APART from law
Has been made known


The RIGHTEOUSNESS from God
Comes thought FAITH in Jesus Christ
To ALL who believe


There is NO DIFFERENCE
For ALL have sinned
And fall short
Of the glory of God


AND ARE JUSTIFIED
Finally by his GRACE
Through the redemption
That came by Christ Jesus” Romans 3:21-24


MY FRIENDS
There is NO justice
In this world


OUR justice
And our JUSTIFICATION
Can come ONLY THROUGH GOD

WE THANK our soldiers for the physical freedom that we CONTINUE to life in-and we THANK OUR LORD and SAVIOR Jesus Christ for the SPIRITUAL and emotional freedom that we have

IT IS a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in God's LOVE for us and a great day to LIVE IN what is still the GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH

CRY FREEDOM




150 years ago
In a little town in Texas
At the Alamo
A group of 119 or 120 men
Were WAITING for HELP


A group led by Colonel William Travis
A group that included famous men
Like Davy Crockett and William Bowie


Men
Fighting for their independence
Men fighting for an ideal
A 100 or so men
Fighting for the beginnings
Of the statehood of Texas


General Sam Houston and his army
Did come---too late
For these men
But NOT too late
For the ideal---the statehood of Texas


2,000 years ago
There was another revolution going on
A revolution
To return to the Word of God


A revolution started by one man
Jesus Christ


A revolution
To teach us how to live
A revolution
To teach us how to forgive
A revolution
To teach us how to live lives
Of kindness and compassion


This revolution
Faced even longer odds
Than those few men down in Texas faced


One man
Backed by twelve
But in the end
One man standing alone
Unto his dying breath---committed to his ideals


CRY FREEDOM


Sam Houston’s army was too late
For those 120 men
But NOT too late
To finish the job---that those men started


CRY FREEDOM


The 12 did return ( one replaced )
As we assume---so did the 72
And millions and millions of others


Too late
For that one man
But NOT too late
For those ideals to be accomplished


My friends
This world is spiraling downwards
More and more so each day


It is time
For a new army
Committed to Christ’s ideals---to step forward


“You my brothers
Were called to be free
But do not use your freedom
To indulge the sinful nature
Rather serve one another in love
The entire law
Is summed up by a single command
Love your neighbor as yourself” Galatians 5:13-14


God and love
Versus hatred and resentment
SPIRIT over the flesh


It is time for us to stand up
To stand firm---to stand tall


Let us be slaves to God
Let us be slaves to love
Let us live
For the benefit of each other
And those yet to come


Let us
Teach God’s ways---Not human ways
Let us truly live out
THE GREAT COMMISSION


“ALL authority in heaven
And on earth
Have been given to me


Therefore
Go and make disciples of all nations
Baptizing them
In the NAME of the FATHER
And of the Son
And of the HOLY SPIRIT
And teaching them
To obey everything---I have commanded you
And SURELY I am with you
ALWAYS
TO THE VERY END OF THE AGE” Matthew 28:19 &20


And maybe ---if we do that
Maybe one day---we can ALL

TODAY we CELEBRATE the feast of SAINT Thomas who had to see to BELIEVE

IN this modern day 21st century world that we live in-DEAR LORD-we pray for the GIFT OF FAITH-for we KNOW that you are REAL

And it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in your constant LOVE for us-and to believe WITHOUT having to see or prove it-YOU HAVE already done that


















WAIT AND SEE










In Jesus’ time
There were many preachers
Claiming to be the Messiah
---the one and only---TRUE SON OF GOD


But there was only one man
Performing miracle after miracle
And people believing
That he really might be


The chief priests and Pharisees
Began to become worried
And called a meeting of the Sanhedrin


One said,


“If we let him go on like this
Everyone will believe in him
And the Romans will come and take away
Both our peace
And our nation” John 11:48


But Caiaphas-the chief priest said,
“You know nothing at all
You do not realize
That it is better for you
That one man die for the people
Than the whole nation perish” John 11:50


They thought
That by killing Jesus
That the movement would fail


WAIT AND SEE


Fast forward
To after the Resurrection
And the Apostles
Have picked up where Jesus has left off


And the Apostles
Are brought in before the Sanhedrin
Because they were teaching in his name


They were to stop preaching
But Peter says,
“We must obey God rather than men
……..
We are witnesses of these things
And so is the Holy Spirit
Whom God has given
To those who obey him” Acts 5:29 and 32


The Pharisees are furious
And want to put them to death


WAIT AND SEE


Gamaliel-a teacher of the law
And respected by all-stands up and says,


“Leave these men alone!
Let them go!
For if their purpose or activity
Is of human origin
It will fail


But if it is from God
We will not be able
To stop these men


You will only find yourselves
Fighting against God” Acts 5:38 & 39


My friends the WORD OF GOD
Though weakened-has NOT DIED
IT WILL NEVER DIE


Our Lord told us so:


“Heaven and earth will pass away
But my words
Will NEVER pass away” Matthew 24:35


The Word of God
Stands forever

NEVER A DOUBT-THE STORY OF SAINT THOMAS

NEVER IN DOUBT
( the story of SAINT THOMAS )




How many of us
Have seen a sporting event
A particular nitty-gritty contest
Where you had no idea
Who was going to win


Then after the outcome
And your team won
Thought or said,


“The outcome
Was never in doubt”


Well I am here to tell you
The story of Saint Thomas
The story of “Doubting Thomas”


Well I am here to tell you
That the outcome was
“NEVER IN DOUBT”


We forget
That when Martha and Mary
Summoned Jesus to come back
And help Lazarus
Many of the other Apostles
Didn’t want to go


Because they had
To go through Judea
An area
Where Jesus had just almost been stoned


They were afraid


Then Thomas spoke up and said,
“LET us also go
That we may die with him” John 14:16


Then we flash forward
To after Jesus’ death
To where we find Thomas saying;


“Unless I see
The nail marks in his hands
And put my finger
Where the nails were
And put my hands into his side
I will NOT believe it” John 20:25


Do you ever feel that way
I know that I do


Thomas is our inspiration
For those of us
Still struggling with our faith
For whatever reason


For we know
That Thomas
Went on to preach about Jesus
After the Resurrection
And was martyred for it


Saint Thomas
Is the Saint of architects
And the spiritually blind


For those of us like Saint Thomas
Struggling with our faith
Like our favorites sports team
Striving for victory
WE WILL TRIUMPH


For we know that the outcome is


NEVER IN DOUBT

"SEEK GOOD....."    Amos 5:14

WE LIVE in a world with so much EVIL
WE can hardly change it just by doing good

BUT we can CHANGE IT by UNITING our GOODNESS with OUR HEAVENLY FATHER
and HIS SON Jesus

it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a GREAT day to CHANGE the world by LOVING ONE ANOTHER and uniting our will with GOD ANDCHRIST'S

GOODNESS










I have heard the saying
Many times in life that
“It does not matter
If we believe in God
As long as we are good people”


They hope
That by being good
To please God---IF there is one
And if there is no God
They hope for the approval of men


I salute these people
For the good that they do
But in the heart of a Christian
There is a different process


The true Christian knows
That any good that he or she does
Comes from the Christ-like life
That lives inside of him or her


The true Christian
Does NOT think
That God will love us
If we are good


He or she knows better


The true Christian knows
That God already loves us
And that God will make us good
Because he does love us


Like Saint Paul said,
“No longer I
But Christ who lives in me”


That is where
Our goodness comes from---FROM CHRIST


And we know as Christians
That we are NOT perfect
That sometimes we will do wrong
Even if it is NOT our intention
By the mere fact that we ARE human


But we will repent
After each stumble
And go on
Trying to do good again
Because of the Christ-like life
That lives inside each and every one of us


And we know
That goodness does live within us
Because when Christ ascended
Into heaven
He left his very own spirit behind


“But the fruit of the spirit is love,
Joy, peace, patience, kindness, GOODNESS,
Faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control


Against such things
There is no law” Galatians 5:22-23


And so
We keep trying to do good
Even when we fall short


We pick ourselves up
We dust ourselves off
And we try to do good ALL OVER AGAIN


We let God himself RESURRECT us
As he-God himself-resurrected Christ
And when we come to the end of our journey
We long to hear the words


“Well done GOOD and faithful servant”

The TRUTH is we all like to be in CONTROL of our own lives-but the TRUTH is-none of us really are-EACH one of our lives lay in the hands of OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND HIS SON

Dear Lord-WE PRAY for MORE trust and FAITH in YOUR PLAN for our lives and less in our own plans

it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us and a GREAT DAY for following HIS PLAN
for our lives

WHO’S IN CONTROL










Who is in control
Of your life


Many of us
Think we are in control of our own life
Or at least
We like to think so


But just think about it
In the course of an ordinary day
When our day
Doesn’t go---or turn out
The way we had planned


How quickly
We get angry---lose our temper
Or flip someone an obscene gesture


Proverbs 29:11 says,
“A fool gives vent
To his anger
But a wise man
Keeps himself under control”




And that’s
Just what can happen
In the course of an ordinary day


What about the big stuff
What if we get an unexpected health diagnosis
What if we have financial obligations
That we can’t meet
What if
We can’t feed our families
What if our significant other
Is having an affair


Who is in control
When bad things
Or unexpected things happen in our life


Who is control then


We are deceiving ourselves
If we think
We can control our life


“The mind of a sinful man
is death
But the mind
Controlled by the spirit is life and peace
The sinful mind
Is hostile to God


It does not submit
To God’s law---nor can it do so
Those controlled by the sinful nature
Cannot please God


You however
Are NOT controlled by the sinful nature
But by the SPIRIT
If the spirit of God
Lives in you” Romans 8:6-9


I think of Saint Peter’s answer
For all the Apostles
When Jesus asked,
“You do not want to leave me too do you?”


Saint Peter said,
“Lord, to whom shall we go
You have the words of eternal life
We believe and KNOW
That you are the HOLY ONE of God” John6:67-69


Who or What will you and I run to
When the difficult times come


All we need to do
Is look back to the past difficult times
Of our life
And remember he HEALING
That we experienced before


We just need to turn
Our eyes and thoughts back to God
The SOURCE of everything good, pure, and HOLY
The CREATOR of life itself


SO WHOSE IN CONTROL


The one true creator of us all,


“By the 7^th day
God had finished the work
He had been doing


So on the 7^th day he rested
From all the work


And God BLESSED the 7^th day
And made it HOLY
Because on it
He rested from ALL the work of creating
He had done” Genesis 2:2-3
