FAMILY LOVE
A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW FOR THE AGES
( the story of
Ruth and Naomi )
Naomi was a woman
Married to
Elimelech
They had 2 sons
Elimelech dies
And the two
sons marry women
Named Orpah and
Ruth
Later both sons
die too
And Ruth is
left in a strange land
With her
daughters-in law
Naomi says to her daughters- in-law,
“Go back—each of you-to your Mother’s home
May the Lord
show kindness to you
As you
Have shown to
your dead and me
May the Lord
Grant that each
of you
Will find rest
In the home of
another husband”
Ruth 1:8 & 9
Orpah went back to her parents
But Ruth
Would not leave
her mother-in law
Ruth said,
“Don’t urge me to leave you
Or turn my back
from you
Where you go
I will go
And where you
stay
I will stay
Your people
Will be my
people
And your God
Will be my
God………….”
Ruth 1:16 & 17
WHAT LOYALTY
From a daughter-in-law---no less
Ruth eventually marries
A wealthy man
named Boaz
And they have a
son named Obed
Who was the
grandfather of King David
So Ruth’s continued loyalty
To her
mother-in-law Naomi
Rewards her
With a new
husband-a new son
And a
privileged position
In the lineage
of Jesus Christ
And it proves
You DON’T HAVE
To be related
by blood
To have a
relationship of love and family
It proves that GENUINE LOVE
Sometimes
requires uncompromising sacrifice
And it proves
That regardless
of our lot in life
We can lives of
OBEDIENCE to God
And that genuine
love
And kindness
will be rewarded
Ruth and Naomi
A mother and
daughter-in-law
FOR THE
AGES---FAMILY LOVE
