ONE OF US The CHRISTIAN CALL To social action Is not a movement For the poor and the oppressed But as them And we must REMEMBER That Jesus was one of them- ONE OF US THE POOR and the OPPRESSED Our Lord CARRIED his cross To his death-UP- On Calvary Hill “Jesus went out Carrying his cross And came to 'The Place of the Skull,-' Golgotha There they crucified him Jesus took his suffering-like- THE POOR AND THE OPPRESSED” John 19:18 Jesus was/IS ONE OF US One of the poor And one of the oppressed He is ONE OF US ALL “When someone strikes you On your right cheek Turn the other one to him As well” Matthew 5:19 Jesus is the SPOKESMAN For the poor and the oppressed For whatever we are TRYING to OVERCOME In this world “The Lord Is a REFUGE For the oppressed A stronghold- In times of trouble” Psalm 9:9 “Learn to do right Seek justice DEFEND the oppressed Take up the cause Of the fatherless Plead the case Of the widow” Isaiah 1:17 “The Spirit of the Lord Is on me Because he has Anointed me To PROCLAIM good news To the poor He has sent me To proclaim FREEDOM For the prisoners And recovery of sight For the blind To set the OPPRESSED FREE To proclaim The year of the LORD'S FAVOR” Luke 4:18-19 Jesus is OUR LEADER He is ONE OF US Jesus is among us He-along-with us Are NOT faceless victims Jesus TEACHES US To ACCEPT the trials Of our life And work out of them WITH PATIENCE He is OUR GOD-our leader And we WILL FOLLOW HIM- Till the ends of the earth And like him We will overcome-ALL Robert P.
