A Lamentation=For the People of Israel

 

SORROWFUL SIGNS=Over the CONDITIONS of Israel

In Ezekiel’s day

2.      Subject Matter

For the PRINCES OF ISRAEL

 

-God called them PRINCES=NOT KINGS

-Refers to 3 later KINGS of Israel

 

It is SIGNIFICANT=that GOD calls them PRINCES=and not Kings

 

The NORTHERN Kingdom=was long ago=Conquered and scattered

 

LINES 2-4

The Lioness=and the Lion=Fallen to Egypt

 

LIONESS is Israel or Judah itself

-They take their PLACE=among the COMMUNITY OF NATIONS

 

ONE of her cubs is=King Jehoahaz  (Son of King Josiah)

609BC

 

He had a SHORT=but evil KINGDOM

BRUTAL=He devoured men

 

-King Jehoahaz Was taken PRISONER=and to Egypt

AFTER a 3 months reign           

 

Lines 5-7=

THE SECOND LION’S POWER

 

-REFERS to King Jehoiachin of Judah=who REGNED from

609-BC-to 597BC

-          He also devoured men

King Jehoiachin RULED with POWER and authority

 

-OTHERS were effected by=the NOISE of his Kingdom

 

LINES 8-9

THE YOUNG LION’S CAPTIVE

The NATIONS came after King Jehoiachin=from every side

 

-Nebuchadnezzar=and the BABYLONIANS=brought ARMIES against him

From many nations=and provinces

 

Jehoiachin=Was taken PRISONER in 579BC

 

HE NEVER RETURNED=and his voice=NO LONGER could be heard=IN ISRAEL

 

LINES 10-11

THE LAMENTATIONS of the VINE

 

-Ezekiel RETURNED to a =to a FRUITFUL-STRONG KINGDOM             

Ie. Israel=FRUITFUL=and full of BRANCHES

 

Ezekiel=was THINKING of the Kingdoms=of David and Solomon

(WHEN God LIFTED UP=Israel=From among the nations)

 

LINES 12-14

PLANTED IN THE WILDERNESS

 

-There came a day=When GOD NO LONGER BLESSED

Israel and her KINGS

 

-NOW=Israel=was planted=in the wilderness=IN BABYLON

 

=Babylon=NOT essentially a wilderness=But it was for=

EXILED KINGS and her people

 

-The WORST DAMAGE to=THE VINE=came

From its own branches

Ie.     CORRUPT FROM WITHIN

 

Ie. Zedekiah was King=of the DESTRUCTION of Israel

 

Zedekiah=Was the LAST KING=from the LINE of David=

UNTIL THE MESSIAH=Who established HIS KINGDOM

 

NO MORE LINES of David=after Zedekiah=UNTIL JESUS

 

These 2 parables=DEMONSTRATE the last of the KINGS

 

A RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT=Of the KINGS and of Israel=and

THIS WAS THE true reason=for the LAMENTATIONS
