PASSION---DO YOU HAVE IT

One of my favorite movies
Is a movie called “SERENDIPITY”

In it---our hero Jonathon Traeger
Loses the two loves of his life---in the same night

One woman is his fiancée
The other is his soul mate
Whom he hasn’t seen in about 8 years

As Jonathon and his best friend
Walk down the street
Jonathon looks at his best friend ( a professional obituary writer ),
And says,
“Did you write my obituary?”

His friend looks back and says,
“The Greeks didn’t believe in obituaries
They just asked one question:
Did he have passion?”

Passion is defined as a powerful emotion
Such as love, joy, hatred, anger;
Or to have boundless enthusiasm for something

So, I’ll ask you
Do you have boundless enthusiasm for anything
If so, for what

And two more questions:
Do you have boundless enthusiasm for loving God?
Do you have a passion for loving others?

If your answers to these two questions are yes
You are fulfilling or attempting to fulfill
What Christ tells us
Are the two greatest commandments

In Matthew 22  ( 22:35-46 )
An expert in Jewish law
Is trying to trap Jesus

He asks,
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment
 In the law?”
Jesus responds,
“Love the Lord your God
With all your heart
And with all your soul
And with all you mind

This is the first
And greatest commandment

And the second is like it
Love your neighbor as yourself

All the law
And the prophets
Hang on these two commandments”

Jesus lived his life with such passion
For God and for others
That the last hours of his life
Between the last supper and the crucifixion
Are called---THE PASSION

But the truth is
His entire life is THE PASSION

Well Jonathon did lose his fiancée
But he did wind up with his soul mate
As the movie ends
They are celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary

So finally---my wish for you is this
That you live your life with such passion
That when you reach those white pearly gates
Saint Peter looks at you ( and me ), and says,

“Yes-thou art too with Jesus
Your very nature betrays you
Come on in our good and faithful servant”
