NOVEMBER 30th, 2012

SAINT ANDREW

Before Jesus
There was John
Andrew was
A disciple of John’s       (John the Baptist)

One day
Jesus was talking
Beside the Sea of Galilee
He saw two brothers
Who were fishermen
And he said to them
“Come follow me
And I will make you fishers of men”

They immediately
Laid down their poles
And decided
To follow this mysterious man

Later on
Andrew was the one
Who found
The little boy
And the five barley loaves
And immediately
A miracle was done

After Jesus’ Resurrection
We don’t know where
But we know
Andrew preached God’s word
Wherever he could
Until he
Died a martyr’s death

Today there
Are many churches
Named in his honor
And he is
The patron Saint
Of Scotland and Russia

Tradition states
That if you say a certain prayer
Fifteen times a day between now and Christmas
A miracle
May be possible

Today, November 30th, is his feast day
And I was baptized
At Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church
February 6th, 1955 in Pittsburgh, PA

Also the day of
My mother and father’s first wedding anniversary

Ps      “Another of the disciples, Andrew,
Simon Peter ‘s brother, spoke up,
“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves
And two small fish-but how far will they go
           Among so many?”

“Jesus said, “have the people sit down”

“There was plenty of grass in that place
And the men sat down-about 5,000 of them
Jesus then took the loaves- gave thanks-
And distributed to those that were seated
             As much as they wanted
He did the same with the fish.”                                  John 6:8-11
