THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

JULY 10th, 2012

THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

In the 22nd chapter
Of Saint Matthew’s Gospel
A young lawyer
Asks Jesus
Which is the greatest commandment

Jesus answers
Love God
With all your heart
With all your soul
And all your mind
And to love your neighbor
As yourself

And why
Should we do this

We should love
Because not only did Jesus
Tell us to do so
But because
We are all children of God
And God is living
In each and every one of us

And each and everyone of us
Is special
Because each and every one of us
Is unique
With our own set of abilities and talents
No two of us
Are alike

It is interesting
That in the story
Of the “good’ Samaritan
Everyone is named
Except the man
Lying by the side of the road

And the reason
The man is not named
Is because
It does not matter
We are
To love everyone

Finally Dear Lord
We pray
Help us to love you
With a total love

And help us
To love all others
Because you Dear Lord
Are LIVING IN ALL OF US

Ps Inspired by the teaching of Father Leo Clifford

“My command is this:
LOVE each other as I have loved you” John 15:12

“Jesus replied:
“Love the Lord your God
With all your heart
And with all your soul
And with all your mind

This is the first and greatest commandment
And the second is like it:

Love your neighbor as yourself

ALL the Law and the Prophets
Hang on these two commandments” Matthew 22:37-40
