THE FAITH THAT TRANSFORMS OUR LIVES


In the gospel of Mark=Jesus tells us
NOT to be afraid=sometimes
That is difficult for us


WHEN we are facing
A TRYING situation=
CAN you REMEMBER=such a time
In your life?


I surely can=as I have
BEEN in numerous
LIFE & DEATH situations


But I TRUSTED FAITH=I
TRUSTED Jesus=and he
GAVE me the FAITH
That TRANSFORMED MY LIFE


“Do NOT be afraid=
Just have FAITH” Mark 5:36


HAVING FAITH in Christ=
Does not mean we will
Be without difficulty


But it doe MEAN
We can COUNT on
The PROMISES of Jesus
To HELP US through life


It does mean
We CAN COUNT on the
UNFAILING LIFE OF JESUS'


“But I TRUST
In your UNFAILING LOVE


My heart REJOICES
In your salvation” Psalm 13:5


“What a person DESIRES
Is UNFAILING LOVE
Better to be poor
Than a liar” Proverbs 19:22


“Though the mountains
Be shaken
And the hills
Be removed


Yet my UNFAILING LOVE
For you=will not
Be shaken


Nor my COVENANT
Of peace
Be removed


Says the LORD
Who has COMPASSION for you” Isaiah 54:10


It is OK to be AFRAID
It is ok to be fearful


Just have FAITH=the FAITH
In Jesus=that DOES
TRANSFORM LIVES


WHEN we have this this faith
We have peace=
Our lives are TRULY TRANSFORMED
By Jesus


That trusting FAITH IN JESUS


The faith
That TRANSFORMS OUR LIVES
Trust in Jesus
Do NOT be afraid


“Those who know your name
TRUST in Jesus


For you LORD
Have never forsaken
Those who seek you” Psalm 9:10


“TRUST in the Lord
With ALL YOUR HEART


And lean not
On your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5


It is natural=
To be AFRAID=in
Certain situations


But IT IS our FAITH
In Jesus
That allows us
To CONQUER our fear


And ALLOWS us to
Find peace=and TRANSFORM
OUR LIVES

Today we read about
The HUMBLE CENTURION=a man
With truly GREAT FAITH


Jesus was AMAZED
At this man's FAITH


The centurion said:
“Lord=I am NOT WORTHY
To have you
ENTER under my roof


Only say the WORD
And my servant
WILL BE HEALED” Matthew 8:8


I too am AMAZED
At the CENTURION'S FAITH=just
As Jesus was


This is the phrase
That EVERY Catholic says today=
BEFORE receiving the HOLY EUCHARIST
That is the KIND of FAITH
I want to HAVE TOO


I would LOVE for Jesus
To THINK that of my faith too
WOULDN'T YOU?


Jesus said about the CENTURION:
“Truly I tell you
I have NOT found anyone
In Israel
With such GREAT FAITH” Matthew 8:10


And to the centurion=
He said=”GO! Let it be done
Just as you BELIEVED
It would'


And his servant
Was HEALED at that moment” Matthew 8:13


YES=I am AMAZED
At the centurion's faith
JUST as Jesus was


Wouldn't you be PROUD
If Jesus was
AMAZED at your faith?


“This proposal=
PLEASED the whole group
They chose STEPHEN=
A man FULL of faith
And of the HOLY SPIRIT
…......” Acts 6:5


“Therefore the PROMISE
Comes by FAITH
So that it my be
By GRACE


And may be guaranteed
To all Abraham's offspring---------


NOT only to those
Who are of the law
But also


Those who have
The FAITH of Abraham=
He is=THE FATHER of us all” Romans 4:16


“I am REMINDED
Of your SINCERE FAITH


Which first lived

Yes=let us all REMEMBER
With our FAITH


That Jesus comes into

GOD'S LOVE EMERGES!


Did you KNOW that
PEOPLE OF FAITH
Are no less likely
To BE injured or killed
In accidents and tragedies
Than NONBELIEVERS?


That leads some to believe
That there is NO GOD


But GOD is NOT ABSENT
From accidents=tragedies=or ILLNESSES


GOD'S LOVE EMERGES!


“I sought the Lord
And he ANSWERED me


And DELIVERED ME
From all my fears” Psalm 34:5


We do NOT always SENSE
GOD'S PRESENCE at the time
But in the aftermath


After the shock and the pain
BEGIN to abate
GOD'S love does EMERGE


And it enables us to
HANDLE whatever we have to


God does ANSWER PRAYER
And after our anger
And bitterness SOFTEN


Our FAITH allows us
To experience TRUE HEALING


“The words of the reckless
Pierce like swords


But the tongue of the wise
BRINGS HEALING” Proverbs 12:18


“Nevertheless=I will bring
Health and HEALING to it


I will HEAL my people
And will let them
Enjoy abundant PEACE
And security” Jeremiah 33:6


God may NOT deliver us
From accidents and tragedies


But he does NOT ABANDON US
During our times
Of duress


DURING this time=
God does DELIVER us
GOD'S LOVE DOES EMERGE


“For he will
DELIVER the needy
Who cry out


The afflicted
Who have no one to HELP” Psalm 72:12


“He has DELIVERED us
From such a deadly peril
And we will


DELIVER US AGAIN=
On him
We have set OUR HOPE


That he will CONTINUE
To DELIVER US” 2 Corinthians 1:10


This is HOW God's love
WORKS=HOW HIS LOVE EMERGES


NOT from events=but in
SUSTAINING US=to CONTINUE
To go on

A DEEPER-CLOSER WALK
WITH GOD

WHEN I was
A little bit younger
And a whole lot stronger


I used to walk
Around Riverview Park
A nice park in Pittsburgh, Pa.


Two times around
Was about 4.4 miles
And it would usually take me
About 1 hour and 8 minutes


But sometimes
I would slow down
Take a little bit longer
And take in the BEAUTY
And see the greenery


A couple of times
I even saw some deer


“ALL THIS
You were allowed
To see


That you might know
The Lord is God
And there is no other” Deuteronomy 4:35


SLOW yourself down
And take a DEEPER-
CLOSER walk with God


We can walk
Through life
The same way


A life
Like an exercise
WHERE life is a meaningless trudge


Or slow ourselves down
And take in the greenery
And the deer


And LIFT our eyes
To God
And see the world
And ALL creation
THROUGH NEW EYES


Taking a DEEPER-CLOSER-
WALK WITH GOD

“I AM
The LIGHT of the world

TODAY we celebrate the
FEAST of John the Baptist


WHEN both John and Jesus
Were adults=
Jesus called John
The GREATEST PERSON
Of the Old Testament


While John called Jesus
The GREATEST ONE
Of all time


John KNEW who he was
And he knew=who Jesus was
The SON OF GOD


“Behold ONE is
Coming after me


I am NOT WORTHY
To unfasten the sandals
Of his feet” Acts 13:25


He knew that
Jesus had to become MORE AND MORE
And that John himself
Had to become
Less and less


Wouldn't it be wonderful
If more of us CHRISTIANS=
In today's world=
KNEW THAT?

“HE must become more and more=

John was considered to be
The PRECURSOR of our LORD
And the name John
Means=”the GRACIOUSNESS OF GOD”

And let Jesus
Become “MORE and MORE”

John was a GREAT MAN=

Seek the Kingdom of God

And WHEN to give it to us


But first=we need to SHOW
A little faith=maybe a
LOT OF FAITH


And seek first
THE KINGDOM OF GOD

“The LORD GOD

Just WHERE IS
The Kingdom of God?


It is GODS LOVING PRESENCE
Within us

We CHOOSE FAITH in God
Over our worries


FAITH OVER WORRY!

In the prophets

And of course=when we
Are adults=it's our homes=
Cars=bank accounts=etc., etc., etc.


But DEEP DOWN=I know-as I
HOPE you do=it IS
Our relationship with God
And our FAMILIES that are


THE REAL TREASURES IN OUR LIFE


“Do NOT store up
For yourselves
TREASURES on earth


Where moth and decay destroy
And thieves break in
And STEAL” Matthew 6:19


Our material objects
Are LIMITED=we CANNOT
Take them with us
To the next world


And we NEED to let
Jesus regularly REMIND us
Of that


It is easy
To get ATTACHED to things


The things in this life
Are false TREASURES
And they DISTRACT us
From the LORD
Whose LOVE=NEVER FAILS


Let us STAY ATTACHED
To our BURIED TREASURES
IN the Lord


“And if you look
For it as for SILVER
And search for it
As for HIDDEN TREASURE........” Proverbs 2:4


“For where your TREASURE is
There your HEART
Will also BE” Matthew 6:21


MY TREASURE is in
My GOD and MY FAMILY
Things that will LAST
LONG after I am gone


“Sell your possessions
And GIVE to the poor


Provide purses for yourselves
That will NOT wear out
A TREASURE in heaven


That will NEVER fail

In the famous story of Martha and Mary-Jesus teaches us a thing or two about MISPLACED WORRY-
Martha and Mary are two sisters RECEIVING Jesus and the apostles at their house for a dinner party


Martha is concerned and going about the SERVING of the dinner-and Mary is just sitting at Jesus' feet hanging on his EVERY word-Martha complains to Jesus and Jesus has a SURPRISING RESPONSE


“ONLY ONE THING is needed-Mary has CHOSEN the better part-and it will NOT be taken away from her” Luke 10:42


Dear Lord -we pray that as we GO ABOUT living our lives that we KEEP you and THE WORD of God FIRST in our lives-it is STILL the one thing that is NEEDED-if we do this-everything else in our lives will FALL into place


it is a GREAT DAY to be ALIVE in GOD'S LOVE for us-and a great day to BEGIN to REPLACE misguided worry with FAITH

YES=let us remember to PRAY

Have you been YEARNING
For the VOICE of God

Elijah's story is a
FAVORITE of mine=and
Of many others


Elijah has been SEARCHING for GOD=
But his FIDELITY has brought him
Nothing but TROUBLE


Now he is RUNNING
For his life


He seeks
Shelter in a cave
And WAITS for him(God)
To show up


He-Elijah-can't find him
In the wind=in the rain=
Or in an earthquake=or fire


FINALLY he COMES in a
TINY WHISPERING SOUND


HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD!




“The VOICE of the Lord
Is over the waters


The God of glory=thunders
The Lord thunders
OVER the mighty waters” Psalm 29:3


“A VOICE of one calling

The way for the Lord

LOST AND FOUND=THE STORY OF SAINT ANTHONY

LOST AND FOUND---The Story of Saint Anthony




“Whoever finds his life
Will lose it
And whoever loses his life
For my sake
Will find it” Matthew 10:39


Saint Anthony
Was a great great Saint
He lived in the early 1200’s


He should be
The Patron Saint
Of those losing their life for God
And finding oneself


He joined the Augustinian order
At about 15
The bodies of some Franciscan martyrs
Passed though the city
Where he was stationed


He decided
He wanted to die for Christ too
And switched to the Franciscan order
But an illness
Prevented him from reaching his goal


So he spent his time
At a small hermitage
Praying, reading scriptures, and doing menial tasks


He was brilliant
Yet no one knew
One day when no one was prepared
To speak
Anthony stepped forward


His speech was so astounding
That he was promoted
To teach theology
To the other friars


Legend has it
That Jesus appeared to Anthony
As the baby Jesus
In the confines of his own room


Legend also has it
That one day
When Anthony could find no one
To preach to
He went down to the river
And the fish
All poked their head out of the water and listened


So remember
The next time that you are frustrated
In your life or on your job
And things aren’t happening fast enough for you

It is EASY

When God REVEALS

For our GOODNESS
LIES IN GOD


Our goodness lies in
Being people of FAITH
And being filled
With the HOLY SPIRIT


TODAY we CELEBRATE a GOOD MAN=
Saint Barnabas=a man so
FULL OF FAITH and the HOLY SPIRIT
That he became a SAINT


OUR GOODNESS LIES IN GOD






“For the Lord
Is GOOD
And his love
ENDURES FOREVER


His faithfulness CONTINUES
Through all generations” Psalm 100:5


“Why do you
Call me GOOD?'=asked Jesus


'NO ONE is good--------
Except God alone'” Mark 10:18


OUR GOODNESS LIES IN GOD!


“And we KNOW
That in all things
God WORKS for the GOOD
Of those who LOVE him


Who have been called
ACCORDING to his PURPOSE” Romans 8:28


No matter HOW GOOD
We are
We will fall SHORT
Of GOD'S EXPECTATIONS for us


UNLESS we live with
A SPIRIT-FILLED FAITH
That always leads us
To SERVE others


Our goodness is NOT
About our successes
And what we have accomplished


But how much FAITH we have
And how much=WE FOLLOW
The HOLY SPIRIT!


“But you will RECEIVE POWER
When the SPIRIT
Comes on you


And you will be
My WITNESSES in Jerusalem
And in all Judea And Samaria


And to the ends
Of the earth” Acts 1:8


Our GOODNESS is about
God WORKING through us
And our goodness


Will ALWAYS lie
IN GOD ALONE


Dear LORD=FILL US
With your SPIRIT of GOODNEES

OUR UNSEEN PAIN

OUR UNSEEN PAIN


MANY of us have illnesses
Or PAIN=that you could NEVER TELL
Just by LOOKING at us


For example=I have Crohn's disease
Which has INVOLVED seven abdominal
Operations and DAY after day
Of debilitating PAIN


NOT that I am complaining=
My illness with GOD'S HELP
Has TRANSFORMED me into
A far better person
Than I otherwise would
Have been


And has TRANSFORMED me into=
A MAN OF GOD=and
A man OF HOPE


“For this momentary LIGHT affliction
Is PRODUCING for us
An eternal weight of GLORY=
BEYOND all comparison


As we LOOK
NOT to what is seen
But what is UNSEEN


For what is seen
Is TRANSITORY
But what is UNSEEN
Is ETERNAL” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18


Often times our AFFLICTION
Doesn't feel LIGHT at all
Or MOMENTARY






Our SUFFERING often feels PERMANENT
Like it is
Going to LAST FOREVER


But we FORGET=We
Get so PREOCCUPIED
With our PAIN


That we FORGET
GOD'S ABILITY
To TRANSFORM us


From people of PAIN
To PEOPLE OF GOD
To people of HOPE


“WHY my soul---------
Are you so downcast?
WHY so disturbed
Within me?


PUT your HOPE in God
For I will yet
PRAISE him


My SAVIOR
And my GOD” Psalm 42:5


“For in this HOPE
We were SAVED


But hope that is SEEN
Is NO HOPE at all


Who hopes for
What they ALREADY HAVE?” Romans 8:24


Our unseen pain
TRANSFORMS US
Our unseen pain
PRODUCES the HOPE of God
In us


When we FOCUS on something else
It expands WITHIN US


Let us NOT FOCUS
On our pain
But our ABUNDANCE OF FAITH
In God


“But when you PRAY
Go into your ROOM
And CLOSE the door


And pray to your Father
Who is unseen


Then your FATHER
Who sees what is done
In secret
Will REWARD YOU” Matthew 6:6


BECAUSE of God
And because of JESUS
Our VISION has CHANGED


And our UNSEEN PAIN
And suffering
Produces something VALUABLE in us=
HOPE!

TOTAL SELF-GIVING


Today we CELEBRATE the MOST
SACRED HEART OF JESUS


Jesus' HEART=the SYMBOL of his
ETERNAL and COMPASSIONATE LOVE
For each one of us


TOTAL SELF-GIVING by the man=
The man who GAVE more of HIMSELF
For us=for this world
Than ANYONE EVER


“........But one soldier
Thrust his lance=into his side


And IMMEDIATELY blood and water
FLOWED OUT” John 19:34


The flowing OUT of
Blood and water


Was the SIGN
That Jesus POURED OUT
His life for us
In total SELF-GIVING


Let us EMULATE the Lord
And GIVE of ourselves
To the world=and EACH OTHER


In GIVING as mush
Of ourselves
That we can


“The precepts of the Lord
Are right
Giving JOY








To the heart
The commands of the LORD
Are RADIANT


Giving LIGHT
To the eyes” Psalm 19:8


“............so that
Your GIVING
May be in secret


Then your Father
Who SEES what is done


In secret
Will REWARD you” Matthew 6:4


“But since
You EXCEL in everything


In FAITH-in speech-
In knowledge=in COMPLETE earnestness--------
And in the LOVE
We have


Kindled in you--------
See that you also excel
In the GRACE OF GIVING” 2 Corinthians 8:7


Jesus COMPLETELY excelled in everything
PARTICULARLY=in the GRACE OF GIVING


Giving of himself=COMPLETELY
To others


TOTAL self-giving
To the WORLD


And to you and me=
COMPLETELY


“I have told you this
So that MY JOY
May be in you


And that your joy
MAY BE COMPLETE” John 15:11


The SACRED HEART of Jesus
Is our REMINDER=
Of who God IS for us


And who we are MEANT
To be for ONE ANOTHER


TOTAL SELF-GIVING
In Jesus' name


We TRUST in your RESURRECTION
Dear Lord=and the LIFE that

THE CORE OF OUR FAITH!

THE CORE OF OUR FAITH


The WHOLE of our FAITH=
Of what our CHRISTIAN BEING
Is supposed to mean


Can be summed up in
One sentence
“LOVE GOD=LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR”


These two commandments are
SIMPLE in their verbage=
But oh so CHALLENGING
To execute


“You shall LOVE the Lord
Your God=with all your heart
With all your soul


With all your mind
And with
All your strength”........


You shall LOVE your neighbor
As yourself” Mark 12:30-31


It seems=pretty EASY=
Doesn't it?


Yet HOW MANY of us=in the world
Today=want to BLAME GOD
For what is WRONG with it=


Or BLAME God at the
LOSS of a LOVED ONE=or
An unexpected TRAGEDY


And LOVING our neighbor
Can BE oh so difficult






When a person KEEPS
Badgering us over and over AGAIN=
Or you have a nosy person
NEXT DOOR


Or TOLERATING gossip or mean-
Spirited bigotry=about another person


SOMETIMES it can be DIFFICULT
To CONTINUE TO LOVE


The CORE of our FAITH
Doesn't mean just saying
“I LOVE YOU!”


It means actually=LOVING
GOD when things are difficult


And LOVING OUR NEIGHBOR=when
They present UNLOVABLE characteristics


The CORE of our FAITH!
Also involves forgiveness=and
LIVING THE BEATITUDES


“Then Peter came
To JESUS and asked
'Lord=how many times
Shall I forgive
My brother or sister


Who SINS against me?
Up to seven times?'


“Jesus answered='I tell you
NOT seven times
But seventy-seven times'” Matthew 18:21-22


And then there are the BEATITUDES
And NOT just for saying=
Or reading=or PRAYING


“BLESSED are the poor
In SPIRIT
For theirs
Is the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:3


“Blessed are the PURE
In heart
For they will see GOD” Matthew 5:8


My FRIENDS=these points=are the
CORE of our
CHRISTIAN FAITH


NOT just for saying or praying=
But ACTUALLY DOING


Dear Lord=let LOVE=FORGIVENESS=and
The Beatitudes LIVE in our hearts=
And COME FORTH in our actions

BE A WITNESS WITH PASSION

BE A WITNESS WITH PASSION


As Christians=we are CALLED
To be WITNESSES for God=
For Jesus=and FOR the gospel


But I SUGGEST to you
We are not only to be
Witnesses=we are called


To be witnesses with a PASSION=
But to be a FIERY WITNESS
For the gift of God
To the world


“I REMIND you to STIR
Into flame


The gift of God
That you have...........” 2 Timothy 1:6


What a HELPFUL REMINDER
That is=by Timothy


We have the GIFT
Of God=the gift of Jesus=
And the gift of the
HOLY SPIRIT=
Living in us
In today's world


Yes=sometimes we are
LISTLESS=dejected=or just plain
PATHETIC in our
Witnessing for God


WHERE is our passion?
Where is our WITNESSING for God?


BE a WITNESS for God


Be a witness for Jesus=
And be a FIERY WITNESS at that


“Dear friends=do not be surprised
At the FIERY ordeal
That has come on you
To TEST YOU


As though something strange
Were happening to you” 1 Peter 4:12


“An HONEST witness
Tells the truth


But a false witness
Tells lies” Proverbs 12:17


“He himself
Was NOT the light
He came only as a
WITNESS to the light” John 1:8


Yes=that IS who John
The BAPTIST was=a FIERY
WITNESS to the LIGHT
Of Christ


And that is who
We are too
WITNESSES to the Light
Of Jesus


HOW do we STIR up
That FLAME within us?
Through SHARING HARDSHIP
For the sake of the GOSPEL


And through WITNESSING to the Lord
Without shame


Be a witness
With PASSION=fro CHRIST!


We aren't capable of
The passion ON OUR OWN


“The LORD examines the righteous
But the wicked


Those who love violence
He hates with a PASSION” Psalm 11:5


We are NOT CAPABLE of fiery
Love on our own=but TOGETHER=
By LEANING on God and on
Each other


We can become like him


Dear Lord=Dear GOD=STIR into us
A living flame of PASSIONATE LOVE

FILLED WITH WONDER!


It is AWE-INSPIRING when=
You CONSIDER how long
The earth has been around


FILLED WITH WONDER=from everlasting
To everlasting
OUR GOD HAS EXISTED


“BEFORE the mountains
Were begotten
And the earth


And the world
WERE brought forth


FROM EVERLASTING to everlasting
YOU ARE GOD!” Psalm 90:2


YES our God has LIVED
For all of eternity
No beginning=NO END


EVERLASTING and FOREVER
Is our God
And I am
FILLED WITH WONDER!


Have you ever thought
ABOUT the existence
Of the universe?


And the human CONNECTION?


It can be profoundly HUMBLING
To notice
How late


In the history



Of OUR time line
HUMAN EXISTENCE=first appeared


Yet our God has LIVED
For the ENTIRE history
Of the universe


How awe-inspiring=HOW FILLED
WITH WONDER!=I am


“I will GIVE
Thanks to you=LORD=
With ALL my heart


I will tell
Of all your WONDERFUL DEEDS” Psalm 9:1


“For to us
A CHILD is born
To us
A son is GIVEN


And the government
Will be
On his shoulders


And he will be called=
WONDERFUL COUNSELOR=MIGHTY God=
Everlasting Father=Prince of PEACE” Isaiah 9:6


From everlasting to everlasting=
Our God LIVES for all of
TIME=for all of eternity


And the WORD of GOD
LASTS for just as long
EVEN LONGER


“Heaven and earth
Will PASS AWAY


But my WORDS
Will NEVER pass away” Matthew 24:35


Yes=OUR LOVING GOD has
Been=continues to be=and
WILL be PRESENT
For all of eternity


Dear God=DEAR LORD=
OF CREATION


We are grateful
For all of your WAYS


And our hearts=are FILLED
WITH WONDER FOREVER!
