JOURNAL/SAY WHAT

TODAY we HONOR the birth of John the Baptist-the cousin and the one who PREPARED the way and baptized Jesus

What John said-APPLIES to ALL of us

"HE must become greater-I must become less"    John 3:30

IT is a GREAT DAY to PREPARE in our hearts LOVE for Jesus and a great day to be ALIVE
in God and Jesus's love for us

SAY WHAT

Say what
Say that again

2000 years ago
When the Roman Empire
Was in its heyday
And thought
That they were what
It was all about

What was really important
Was what was going on
In the bellies of two women
One Mary---The Mother of Jesus
The other Elizabeth---Mary’s cousin

Both were upright women
Elizabeth was barren
And well along in her years

An angel of God
Appeared to Zechariah---Elizabeth’s husband
And said,
“Do not be afraid Zechariah
Your prayer has been heard
Your wife Elizabeth
Will bear you a son
And you are to give him the name John” 1 Luke 13

SAY WHAT?

“He will be a joy
And delight to you
And many will rejoice
Because of his birth” 1 Luke 14

I can just see
Zechariah thinking,

“Did I just see what I thought I saw?
Did I just hear what I think I heard?”

SAY WHAT?

The angel
Tells Zechariah that his name is Gabriel
And that he, Zechariah,
Will not be able to speak
Because he does not believe

To top it all off
In the sixth month
The angel Gabriel
Appears to Mary
And tells her she is with child
Even though she has not had sex

When it is time
For Elizabeth to name her son
Elizabeth says,
He is to be called, “John”

Zechariah had wanted the boy
Named after him
And no one could understand
Why, “John”

All this time
All these months
Zechariah could not speak
Because he did not believe

Finally, Zechariah,
Was asked what his name was to be
He wrote the name, “John”

Immediately he was able to
Speak again

I wonder
What Zechariah had to say
When Elizabeth told him
That her cousin, Mary,
Was going to have a virgin birth

SAY WHAT?
