THE UNLIKELY CHOICES OF GOD
Down through history
The CHOICES of God
Has been UNLIKELY
God CHOSE Jesus=the son
Of a poor peasant girl and the
STEP-SON of a carpenter
To be
GOD'S ONLY SON
Today we read about Amos=
ANOTHER unlikely choice of God
"I was a shepherd
And a DRESSER of sycamores"                                                                                            Amos 7:14
In Amos' time=this was about
As LOW on the rung
As a person could get
Yet in this LOWLY
Sycamore dresser=God saw
The makings of a
PROPHETIC VOCATION
Jesus and Amos=TWO UNLIKELY
CHOICES of God=
As well as many others
What does God see in you
That makes you SPECIAL?
What does God SEE in you
That he CHOOSES YOU?
"BLESSED is the nation
Whose God
IS the Lord
The people he CHOSE
For his inheritance"                                                                                                                         Psalm 33:12
"You did NOT CHOOSE me
But I CHOSE you
And appointed you
So that you might go
And bear fruit---------
Fruit that will last--------
And so
That WHATEVER you ask
In my name
The Father will give you"                                                                                                            John 15:16
WHY did God CHOOSE you?
I don't know=but there
IS something SPECIAL in you
Or you would not
Have been CHOSEN
You---YES YOU---you
Are ONE of the
UNLIKELY CHOICES OF GOD
Just like Jesus
Just like his apostles=and
Just like AMOS
In today's readings
GOD'S CRITERIA for choosing
Is worlds APART
From the human WAY
You are SPECIAL=God sees
Something unique=something special=
Something different in you
"If you show SPECIAL attention
To the man wearing
Fine clothes and say
'Here's a good seat
For you'
But say to the POOR MAN
'You stand there'=or
'SIT on the floor
By my feet'
Have you not DISCRIMINATED
Among yourselves
And become JUDGES
With evil thoughts?"                                                                                                              James 2:3-4
GOD'S WAYS are different
Than our ways
His CHOICES are different
Than our choices
But we are=among
THE UNLIKELY CHOICES
OF GOD
