IN SILENCE=HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD

Today we FIND Elijah

Looking for God

First he looks

In a powerful WIND=

And the Lord

Is not there

Then he looks in

An earthquake=

Nor is he there=

And he is NOT
IN THE FIRE

FINALLY he finds God

In the SILENCE

Of a gentle WHISPER

“After the fire

There was a TINY WHISPERING SOUND

When he heard this

Elijah hid his face

And went and stood

At the entrance

Of the cave” 1 Kings 19:12-13

How about us?

WHERE are we finding God?

Better yet=

Where are we

LOOKING for God?

It is DOUBTFUL

We are going to find him

In the loud NOISE

Of this world

It is more likely

We are going to FIND HIM

In the SILENCE

Of our own HEARTS AND SOULS

Like Elijah=in a WHISPER

“Even fools

Are thought wise

If they KEEP SILENT

And discerning

If they hold their tongues” Proverbs 17:28

“He was oppressed and afflicted

Yet he did not open his mouth

He was led

Like a lamb

To the slaughter

And a sheep

Before its shearers

IS SILENT

So he did not

Open his mouth” Isaiah 53:7

“The Lord

Is in his holy temple

Let all the earth

BE SILENT before him” Habakkuk 2:20

This ancient story

Of Elijah=REMINDS US

That the best way

To find God

Is just the opposite

Of kicking-screaming-

Doing and crying

It is BEING SILENT

Only with

Our hearts and souls

Maybe the best way

Is to find God

IN SILENCE

Is “AT the back of the cave”

We need to RETREAT

From the noise

Of this world

We need to find God

In his GENTLE WHISPERS

And quiet voices

To hear the whisper of

“HERE I AM”

“So as the Holy Spirit says=

'Today if you hear his VOICE-

Do not harden your hearts'........” Hebrews 3:7-8

Dear Father God=today we PRAY=

Please come to us

In the SILENCE of our prayers

In Jesus' name=and in the VOICE=of our ever GENTLE FATHER GOD
