A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART
( Saint Paulinus of Nola )
Paulinas of Nola
Was born
To a very wealthy family
And was educated
By the poet Ausonius
He practiced as a lawyer
Traveling extensively
And married a Spanish woman
By the name of Therasia
They lived in Spain
And Therasia became pregnant
Their son died in infancy
And they both became Christians
After this
They began to give away
Much of their wealth
To the poor
And to the church
Paulinus became a priest
Built a church
And a house
For pilgrims and for debtors
There he
Began to write poems and letters
To the great Christians of his day:
Ambrose, Jerome, Augustine, and Martin
They prayed daily there
And Therasia was the housekeeper
Of the little community
Paulinus loved the Saints
And he wrote a poem
In honor of Saint Felix of Nola
Who was buried close to their house
Talk about God
Using broken hearts-
(The loss of their child)
To change the course
Of someone’s life
But it can only happen
In a heart
WILLING to say YES to God
Paulinas became Bishop of Nola
Paulinas wrote
About the Christian ideals
Of hope and love
And is recognized
As a GREAT Christian poet
A MAN
AFTER MY OWN HEART
His attractive personality
Won him many friends
And also esteemed scholars
He died on June 22nd, 431-his feast day
After receiving the Eucharist
And giving his last presents to the poor
He was buried
In his own church
