It is SO POPULAR today

To know where we

Come from=WHERE our roots are

And to know

Who we are RELATED TO

 

I come from IRELAND=

And I feel

So keenly CONNECTED=to that country

 

Today=In Matthew’s writings

He wants us to know

Where Jesus came from

OF HIS PEOPLE!=where he comes from

 

“The book of the

Genealogy of Jesus Christ=

The son of David=the son of Abraham”                                                                                    Matthew 1:1

 

Jesus’ lineage

Goes back to Israel’s first king

And to the PATRIARCH

Of the Jewish people

 

ALL of our families=have heroes

Probably some criminals

And Jesus’ is NO DIFFERENT

 

WHERE HE COMES FROM!

 

So Jesus’ lineage

REFLECTS Israel’s glories

But also some sins=from the past

 

And the list=provides a CONTEXT

For understanding

THE SIGNIFICANCE=of Jesus’ arrival

 

What is in a name

What is in a family

OF HIS PEOPLE!

 

“But Ruth replied’=

‘Don’t urge me=to leave you

Or turn back from you

 

Where you go-

I will go

And where you stay

I will stay

 

YOUR POEOPLE=

Will be my PEOPLE

And your God=my God’”                                                                                                       Ruth 1:16

 

“How good and pleasant it is

WHEN GOD’S PEOPLE

Live together in unity”                                                                                                           Psalm 133:1

 

“And I=

When I am lifted up

From the earth

WILL DRAW ALL PEOPLE=to myself”                                                                                       John 12:32

 

We are all RELATED to Jesus=

He is our brother

We are all related=to the Father

We are his sons and daughters

OF HIS PEOPLE!

Where he came from!

WHERE WE COME FROM!

 

Matthew wants to ESTABLISH

That Jesus is

OF HIS PEOPLE!

And the culmination

Of their ENTIRE HISTORY

 

Jesus is the MESSIAH

Of whom=the prophets foretold

And of WHOM

The psalmists sung

 

“……..Jesus Christ=who gave himself for us

To redeem us

 

From all wickedness

And to purify for himself

 

A PEOPLE

That are his very own

Eager to do what is good”                                                                                            Titus 2:14

 

Dear Lord and Father

WE PRAY=that we appreciate

Our very own=Father and Mother=

Brothers and sisters

 

And ALL PEOPLE

Who live in

The HOLY FAITH of God

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=of our Holy Father God!
