THE STEADY HAND OF GOD
Today= we CELEBRATE
The life of SAINT THOMAS
He is widely known
For DOUBTING JESUS
After the Resurrection
But I suggest to you=
Thomas was ALWAYS
A man of GREAT FAITH=
Why would Jesus choose him?
He knew Thomas just needed
A GUIDING PRESENCE=
Like we all do
He just needed the
STEADY HAND OF GOD
“Then he said to Thomas
'Put your finger here
And see my hands
And bring your hand
And put it
Into my side
Do not be unbelieving
BUT BELIEVE” John 20:27
Our movement from DOUBT
Or unbelief=is RARELY
A unique moment in time
For FAITH is a JOURNEY
And it is slow
And UNCERTAIN
It is NOT an experience
Being driven=
But drawn out by God
And his STEADY HAND
Thomas was with Jesus
FROM THE BEGINNING
And previously demonstrated
Quite a FAITH
When Lazarus was dying
Thomas showed his
STEADY FAITH
“So he(Jesus) told them plainly-
'Lazarus is dead
And for your sake
I am glad
I was not there
So that you may BELIEVE=
But let us go to him'” John 10:14-15
“Then Thomas (also know as Didymus)
Said to the rest
Of the disciples
'Let us also go
That we may die with him'” John 10:16
What FAITH=the STEADY HAND OF GOD
Drew Thomas
As it draws us
We need to listen
To the VOICE of Jesus
Over and over as THOMAS did
We need to see God in SCRIPTURE=
In the EUCHARIST
And in the gentle WISDOM of others
We must be STEADFAST
In our FAITH=
As Thomas=and ALL
The apostles (but one)=were
“You will keep
In perfect peace
Those whose minds are STEADFAST
Because they trust in you” Isaiah 26:3
So listen for the VOICE
Of Jesus=listen for the
STEADY HAND OF GOD
Listen for Jesus to say=
“Do not be unbelieving
BUT BELIEVE'
But I think Jesus KNEW
Thomas would believe FROM THE BEGINNING=
Thomas knew Jesus=and
THE STEADY HAND OF GOD
In Jesus' name=and in the name of our EVER STEADFAST FATHER
