‘WHY does your teacher=eat with tax collectors=and sinners?’=He heard

This and said=’Those who are well=do not need A PHYSICIAN=but the sick do=

Go and learn the MEANING of the words=’I DESIRE MERCY=not sacrifice’”                  Matthew 9:10-13

 

Jesus is TEACHING US=that it is=NOT up to us=to judge one another=

JUDGMENT=BELONGS to the Holy Father God=and His Son Jesus Christ

MERCY=THE LOVE ABOVE ALL OTHERS!

 

WE are to live with patience=and to LIVE WITH MERCY=Mercy for

EVERY OTHER human being=in this world==MERCY=the love

ABOVE any other

 

God INVITES us=to offer=A sacrifice of mercy=a SACRIFICE OF LOVE=to be

MERCIFUL=to someone=who does NOT DESERVE IT=That is the KIND

Of love=OUR Holy Father God and Jesus=want from us=MERCY=

THE LOVE=ABOVE EVERY OTHER

 

“For the Lord your God=IS A MERCIFUL GOD=He will not abandon=

Or destroy you=or forget the covenant=with your ancestors=which

He CONFIRMED to them=by oath”                                                                                                 Deuteronomy 4:31

 

“But in=YOUR GREAT MERCY=You did not put an end=to them

Or abandon them=for you are a gracious and MERCIFUL GOD”                                  Nehemiah 9:31

 

Dear Lord=we pray to you Jesus=that THE EXAMPLE of your love=IN

Both life and death=and that it LEADS US=to living a life of MERCY=for

ALL OTHERS=We will FOREVER=try to live that way=for we KNOW=

THAT MERCY=is the GREATEST kind of love==and it is NOT just a love=

But is THE LOVE=that is ABOVE ALL OTHERS

 

“BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL=for they will be called=Children

Dear Jesus=Dear Holy Father God=WE stand up=we APPLAUD=your

GREAT example of MERCY=that you showed=for ALL of us

 

And we PROMISE YOU=to try and live=with that SAME MERCY AND LOVE=

For all others=THE GREAT LOVE=God’s mercy=and OUR MERCY for others=

That is ABOVE ALL OTHERS=Living with MERCY=for all of our

To guard you in ALL your ways

They will lift you up

In their hands

So that you will

NOT strike your foot

Against a stone”

 

HEAVENLY---to be sure

 

I have had

Many earthly angels in my life

My parents---my two sisters

Other family members and friends

To HELP me along the way

 

I know

I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this

If not for them

 

But there are angels

From heaven

That God has actually used

To deliver messages

 

We know

That the angel Gabriel

Appeared to Zachariah

At the birth of John the Baptist

 

And above all

We know that he appeared to Mary

To ask her

To be THE MOTHER OF GOD

 

TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

 

Then we have Saint Michael

OUR defender and protector

TO HELP US

Against the wickedness and the snares of the devil

 

Michael appears to us

IN the book of Daniel

As the special GUARDIAN AND PROTECTOR of Israel

 

And in the book of Revelation

As the PRINCIPAL fighter for God

In the fight

Between good and evil

 

Michael’s POWER is so strong

That it is believed

That souls can be rescued

Even from hell itself

 

May we ALL be so lucky

 

Finally we have the angel Raphael

Named in the book of Tobit

 

Raphael’s name means,

“GOD HAS HEALED”

 

My wish for ALL of you:

 

IS that you be TOUCHED by many beings

Both heavenly and earthly

To help you

On life’s journey

 

And that you feel

God’s love and presence---SO STRONG---

Inside of you

In Jesus’ day=Women were SECOND CLASS CITIZENS=but

That is NOT the way=Jesus felt about the WOMEN of his day

 

Jesus had an INNER CIRCLE=of 12 apostles=but aside from that=

He had an inner circle of WOMEN=That INCLUDED  Mary of Magdala=

Often called HIS BEST FRIEND=and “THE APOSTLE=to the apostles”=

“Accompanying him were the twelve=and SOME WOMEN……..”                                        Luke 8:1-2

Jesus LOVED women==WEOMEN ARE IMPORTANT TOO!

“These WOMEN=were helping to SUPPORT them=out of

Their own means”                                                                                                                                     Luke 8:3

 

 

Women=have IMPORTANT ROLES=in my life too=I couldn’t live

Without the SUPPORT of my=TWO SISTERS=and from MY WOMEN FRIENDS

 

And while we=DON’T have women priests=We have women ministers=We

Have women lectors=We have women Eucharistic ministers=WOMEN

Are extremely important=in this world=and in my life

WOMEN ARE IMPORTANT TOO!

 

“In a loud voice=she exclaimed=’Blessed are you=AMONG WOMEN=

And Blessed is the child you will bear’”                                                                                                 Luke 1:42

“Likewise=Teach the OLDER WOMEN=to be reverent in the way=

They live=Not to be slanders=or addicted to much wine=but to teach

In Jesus’ day=WOMEN were not treated=with too much respect=They

Were second class citizens=but that is NOT=How Jesus treated women=

Nor do I=WOMEN are essential to my life=Just as they were to Jesus

 

The two most important women of Jesus’ life=were Mary his Mother=and

Mary Magdalene=HIS VERY BEST FRIEND=WOMEN ARE IMPORTANT TOO!=

To Jesus=to me=And ESSENTIAL to the GROWTH=in this world

In the 21^st century

 

“But you have neglected=The MORE IMPORTANT matters of the law=--------

Justice-mercy-and faithfulness=You should have practiced the latter=

Without neglecting the former”                                                                                                     Matthew 23:23

AND TO ALL=cannot be overemphasized=for our women the WOMEN

OF THIS WORLD=ARE IMPORTANT TOO!=at all times=and in EVERY WAY

I am sure

You have heard the saying:

“Charity begins at home”

 

I am here to tell you

That that is NOT true

 

It is not true today

Was not true yesterday

And will never ever be true

 

Saint Vincent DePaul

Was born in to a peasant family

Was educated by the Franciscans

And became a priest

At the age of 19

 

His following

Consisted of people

Who were rich and fashionable

Yet Vincent himself

Was utterly devoted to the poor and oppressed

 

A heart of compassion

A heart of charity

A heart of love

 

He founded

A congregation of priests

Who would live from a community fund

Renounce all church support

And work to help reestablish faith

In the smaller towns and villages

 

In that same year---1625

He established the Sisters of Charity

The first congregation of “unenclosed” women

Totally devoted to the poor and the sick

 

He was a LEGEND

Even in his own lifetime

 

He touched all people

Clergy and lay people alike

Rich and poor

Outcasts and convicts

 

A CHARITABLE HEART to be sure

 

Legend has it

That EVEN NOW---almost 600 years later---after his death

That his physical heart has NOT decayed---is still incorrupt

 

So we need no further testimony

Than God himself

About the charity---about the heart

Of a man named Vincent DePaul

 

Like the saying goes,

We know for SURE=that God gives us=HIS GRACE=

And his love=to every SINGLE PERSON=in this world=And

How do we know?

 

We know because=we are=CHILDREN OF GOD=and we KNOW=

Because the Holy Father God and Jesus=EXTEND this invitation=of

Love and GRACE=by WELCOMING every person=in this world=All

We have to do=is say YES=TO THIS INVITATION=”But by=THE GRACE OF GOD=

I am =what I am=and HIS GRACE to me=has not been INEFFECTIVE”                         1 Corinthians 15:10

 

Jesus=and OUR HOLY FATHER God=WELCOME us all=WITH GRACE=If

We approach them=with OPEN hearts=open minds=and an open soul

IN FAITH=We just have to BE SINCERE=in our faith=and in OUR

HUMILITY=and in our repentance=God KNOWS if we are=and IF we are=

We are WITHIN+THE CIRCLE=of God’s GRACE and love

It EXTENDS to us all=to you and me=THE CIRCLE OF GOD’S GRACE

And his love

 

“She opens her arms=to the poor=and EXTENDS her hands to the needy”               Proverbs 31:20

 

“His mercy=EXTENDS to those who fear him=from generation to

Generation”                                                                                                                                        Luke 1:50

 

Do you EXTEND YOUR WELCOMING=your GRACE to all others?=If

You do=You are LIVING within the GRACE OF GOD=and I am sure=

The Holy Father God=and Jesus=are proud of YOUR FAITH=And you

Are in=THE CIRCLE=OF GOD’S GRACE and love!

 

“For the law=was given=through Moses=GRACE and truth=came

Through Jesus Christ”                                                                                                                     John 1:17

 

“For sin=shall no longer be your master=Because you are NOT under=

The law=BUT UNDER GRACE”                                                                                                  Romans 6:14

 

“But he said to me=’MY GRACE=is sufficient for you=for my power

So my dear friends=WHO or how many=are OUTSIDE your

CIRCLE of belonging?=How much BOUNDARY=do you have?

 

If we are LIVING IN GOD’S GRACE=we make an ATTEMPT in

WELCOMING ALL=For NO ONE is outside the CIRCLE OD GOD’S

LOVE and GRACE=just like my MOM=used to say

 

“LOVE draws a CIRCLE=and pulls all people in=Hate draws a circle=

And pushes all people out”=NO ONE is outside of the Holy Father

God’s=and Jesus’ INVITATION OF LOVE AND GRACE

THE CIRCLE OF GOD’S GRACE!

 

“It is right for me=to feel this way=about all of you=since I have

You in my heart=and whether I am in chains=or defending

Or confirming the gospel=all of you share in GOD’S GRACE with me”                             Philippians 1:7

 

Dear Lord Jesus=and Holy Father God=help me to REACH OUT

To all others=with God’s LOVE AND GRACE!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=of our HOLY FATHER GOD=who loves

The CROSS of Christ-the cross of Jesus=for us=is the WAY                                          

TO SALVATION=it is the CAUSE for our HOPE=the SOURCE=

But it is so easy=TO TAKE it for granted=THE CROSS is the reason

FOR OUR LOVE=Keep the love flowing=it is the WAY

OF THE CROSS=and it is=a RIVER OF LOVE

 

“And being found=In appearance as a man=He humbled himself=

By becoming obedient to death=even death ON A CROSS”                                                       Philippians 2:8

We see the CROSS EVERYWHERE=in steeples=on CHAINS around

Our necks=and on altars=it is so EASY=to take it=for granted

 

We forget=that there was a man hanging there=HIS LOVE=crying out

For all of humanity=He is OUR EXAMPLE=it is UP to us=to KEEP
THE LOVE FLOWING=Like a river=to do it=like a RIVER of Jesus’ love

It is=THE WAY OF THE CROSS=KEEP THE LOVE FLOWING!

 

“So I have come down=to rescue them=from the hand  of

The Egyptians=and to bring them=Up out of that land=to a

Good and spacious land=FLOWING with milk and honey=the

Home of…….”                                                                                                                                                Exodus 3:8

 

THE CROSS=was the gruesome reality of Christ=We FORGET

Jesus did it just for us=for you and ME=IF we are the followers

Of Christ=the cross is SOMETIMES=our gruesome reality too=We

NEED to love=IN spite of the CROSS=We need to keep that

RIVER of love FLOWING=even is spite of our CROSSES

 

“Then he said to them’=’Whoever wants to be my disciple=Must

Deny themselves=and take up their CROSS daily=and follow me’”                                       Luke 9:23

 

“For Christ did=not send me= to baptize=but to preach the

Gospel=not with wisdom and eloquence=lest the CROSS of Christ=

Yes=Jesus EMPTIED himself of everything=his CROSS=his tears

Has become a river of love=for all of us=FOR OUR SALVATION

 

May each of us=with EVERY little cross=that we FACE in this life=

KEEP THE LOVE FLOWING=just as Jesus’ life did=it is IN the love

That we show=the POWER OF GOD=It is OVERCOMING our crosses=

That Christ’s love and our love=flow through=to the world=It is

THE POWER=of the Holy Father God

 

“You see=at just the right time=WHEN we were still POWERLESS

CHRIST died for the powerless”                                                                                                             Romans 5:6

 

Dear Lord=we PRAY=we never take you=or the CROSS of Jesus

For granted=and we let you=FLOW OUT OF US==for all

But in that time

Is your opportunity

To find God

And to find yourself

 

Because I have been there

And that was the only place

For me to find true happiness

There just wasn’t anyone

Or anything else

 

It may be health

It may be money

It may be trying to be someone

That you are not

 

Someone that you shouldn’t be

One way or another

Life will bring you

To your knees

 

That just might be

Your opportunity

To find God

To find peace

Inside of yourself

While you are down

On your knees

LOVE IS THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY

 

 

 

 

 

 

LOVE IS=THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY

 

There is=ONLY ONE WAY=to live OUR LIVES=and that

Is=GIVING ourselves away IN LOVE=just like Jesus did=or

At least as CLOSE to him=as we can get=LOVE IS=

THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE=it is=THE MOST EXCELLENY WAY

 

Do you think=OUR WONDERFUL Saint Paul=had any idea=that

HIS DESCRIPTION of love=would be THE STANDARD=Read

At weddings=all over the world=and IN all families=Let us

Take a look at Saint Paul’s=definition of LOVE=it is

LOVE IS=THE MOST EXCELLENT OF WAYS!

 

“LOVE is patient=Love is kind=It does not envy=It does not

Boast=it is not proud=It does not dishonor others=It is

Not self-seeking=It is not easily angered

 

It keeps=NO RECORD of wrongs=LOVE does not delight in evil=

But rejoices=with the truth=It always protects=Always trust =Always

HOPES=always perseveres=LOVE NEVER FAILS”                                                                  I Corinthians 13:4-8

 

I READ these words myself=at my Cousin Kathy’s and Chris’

Wedding=Over 25 years ago=and they have=RAISED three

Beautiful children=and it was read at My sister Mary’s and Dave’s wedding

Many years ago=and they have RAISED 4 beautiful daughters=All

Beautiful inside and out=with a SECOND great grandchild on the way-

 

What great EXAMPLES of marriage=within MY OWN FAMILY=as well

As many others=Saint Paul’s description of LOVE=is the definition

Of Jesus’ life=LOVE LIVES ON=Love is=THE MOST EXCELLENT OF WAYS!

 

“And now these three remain=Faith=hope and LOVE=But the greatest

Of these=IS LOVE”                                                                                                                                1 Corinthians 13:13

ACTUAL LOVE=is putting someone else=Above you-yourself=

It is=PUTTING SOMEONE ELSE’S NEEDS=above your own needs=and it

IS NEVER EASY=just look at the life of Jesus Christ=Can we be an

IMITATION OF HIM?=Love is the WAY=it is THE MOST EXCELLENT OF

WAYS!=Love is challenging=and it is THE ONLY WAY=to live

 

IF it was easy=We would have MORE SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGES=more

People=LIVING out of love=and not a 50% divorce rate=and a crime rate=

GOING through the roof=Not the child abuse that we have=and spousal

Abuse=we have in this world=LOVE IS THE ONLY WAY!=it is

The MOST EXCELLENT OF WAYS!

 

“Now eagerly=desire the greater gifts=And yet I will show you=THE
MOST EXCELLENT WAY”                                                                                                                    1 Corinthians 12:31

 

“Those who have served well=Gain an EXCELLENT STANDING=and

Great assurance=in Christ Jesus”                                                                                              1 Timothy 3:13

 

So today=my brothers and sisters=Move a LITTLE CLOSER=to

CHRIST’S MOST EXCELLENT WAY=of living OUT OF LOVE=by

PUTTING someone else in your life=ABOVE your very own self

 

My mother and father=were MARRIED 46 years=when MY FATHER

Passed away=and it was NOT ALWAYS EASY=not always peaches

And cream=but MY MOM and dad both KNEW LOVE=they knew

THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY=that Saint Paul speaks of=

LOVE NEVER FAILS!

 

CHRIST’S resurrection is the proof=Successful marriages=Successful

Relationships prove that too=LOVE never fails it is

THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY!

 

In Jesus’ name=and in the name=of our EVER LOVING perfect Father=our

FOREVER LIVING=Holy Father God!

HONEY---THE TAX MAN IS HERE

( or the story of Saint Matthew )

 

 

 

 

 

“Honey---

The tax man is here”

 

How many of us

Like to hear those words

 

Or how many of us

Like getting a letter

From the IRS in the mail

Or going downtown for an audit

 

This is the story of Saint Matthew

Originally called Levi

A tax collector of the Jewish people

Who worked for the Roman government

 

One day

Jesus met Matthew

At his tax collector’s booth

And said, “follow me”

 

One night---while having dinner at Matthew’s house

And many of his tax collector friends

Some of the teachers of Jewish law

Were asking his disciples,

“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners”

 

Jesus heard about the conversation, and said,

“It is not the healthy who need a Doctor

But the sick

I have not come to call the righteous---but sinners”                                 Mark 2:16&17

 

Good for the Apostles

And very good for us

 

It is believed

That after the Resurrection

That Matthew went on

To preach the Word of God

Either in Ethiopia or Persia

 

And it is believed

That Matthew wrote his Gospel

From Antioch

Primarily to the Jews

But also to Gentiles and Christians

 

As an original Apostle

He gave us an eyewitness account

 

Jesus speaks more

In Matthew’s Gospel

Than in any of the other Gospels

And Matthew quotes

From many of the Old Testament books

To prove that Jesus certainly is

The “Fulfillment”---The Anointed One

 

Matthew traces the genealogy of Jesus

Describes Jesus’ temptation in the desert

And concludes his Gospel

With the calling of the GREAT COMMISSION

To all believers

 

Matthew teaches us

That the standards of God are high

And that the example that he---God---gave us

Is perfect---Jesus Christ

 

And Matthew teaches us

That Christ is sufficient

For whatever need we might have

And that the ways of God

Are infinitely higher

Than the ways of this world

 

Saint Matthew

Died a martyr’s death

 

September 21^st is his feast day
