Has God
Ever asked you
To do an impossible task
To befriend a person
That is really really difficult
Impossible to reach---to like


How did you react
How did you respond


I wonder how Abraham felt,


“Take your son, your only son, Isaac
Whom you love
And go to the region of Moriah
Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering
On one of the mountains
I will tell you about” Genesis 22:2


Just as Abraham
Was getting ready to sacrifice Isaac
God said,


“Do not lay a hand on the boy
Do not do anything to him
Now that I know
That you fear God,
Because you have not withheld from me your son,
Your only son” Genesis 22:12


Because Abraham said yes to God
He was rewarded
He became the Father
Of many many nations
Of many religions


Because he said yes to God


God asked Noah
To build an ark
And put 2 animals of every kind
In it


God said to Noah,


“I am going to put an end
To all people
For the earth
Is filled with violence


Because of them
I am going to destroy
Both them and the earth” Genesis 6:13


How would you have responded
What would you have said


What is it
That God is asking you to do
With your life
Who is God
Asking you to help


God sent
The angel Gabriel to ask Mary
To be the Mother of God


Mary was greatly troubled
But she said,


“I am the Lord’s servant
May it be done
According to your word” Luke 1:38


How would you have responded

Have responded
If you were Joseph, Mary’s husband


You are God’s Son
You can do anything
Be anything


God---your Father
Asks you to give yourself up
To let yourself be betrayed, mocked, humiliated
And die a shameful death


Jesus responds,


“My Father,
If it is not possible
For this cup to be taken away
Unless I drink it
May your will be done” Matthew 26:42


Because they said yes
As did many others
The world was changed
For the better


Who or what
Is God asking you to do---or help


The world has been changed
Over and over again
Because they said yes


DO YOU/DO I---HAVE THE COURAGE TO SAY YES TO GOD
