TODAY 8-15-2021=we CELEBRATE the feast of Mary’s ASSUMPTION
INTO HEAVEN!
THE LIFE OF THE BLESSED MOTHER---MARY
An angel was sent
To a virgin by the name of Mary
Pledged to be married
To a man by the name of Joseph
A descendant of David
The angel said,
“Greetings---you who are highly favored
The Lord is with you”
Luke
1:28
Mary was very afraid
And the angel said,
“Do not be afraid, Mary,
Your name found favor with God
You will be with child
And give birth
To a son
And you are to give him
The name Jesus
He will be great
And he will be called
The son of the most high
The Lord God will give him
The throne of his father David
And he will reign
Over the house of Jacob forever
His kingdom will never end”
Luke 1:33
“How will this be
Since I am a virgin,” Luke 1:34
The angel answered,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you
And the power of the most high
Will overshadow you
So the Holy One---to be born
Will be called---SON OF GOD”
Luke 1:35
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered,
Be it done to me
According to thy word”
Luke 1:38
Think about it
Of all the people
Who ever lived
Mary was chosen
To give Jesus---the Son of God
The color of his hair
The color of his eyes
His character---his integrity
Teach him to walk, talk, etc., etc., etc.,
Once and only once
Has God chosen a soul like this
And it was Mary
And hell TREMBLED at her goodness
But what do we know
About her life
She had to
Give birth to her son
In a stable
Where was the angel now
No sooner had that happened
That Mary and Joseph
Had to take their child to
Because Herod was trying to kill the baby Jesus
If there
Ever was a word
That the Jewish people
Did not want to hear---it was
Where was the angel now
We know nothing
Of the daily life
Of this holy holy family
But we know
That Joseph was a carpenter
And presumably
Jesus worked with his father in that
Nothing was happening
About the angel’s promise
That Jesus was the Son of God
And then one day it happened
Mary asked Jesus
To turn water in to wine
He didn’t want to---but he did it
Because he loved his mother
And then at the age of 30
His public ministry began
He went out and surrounded himself
With 12 outcasts---to the Jewish society
And moved from town to town
Preaching the Word of God
For three years
In the end
Dying a humiliating death
In front of others
Only Mary, Mary Magdalene,
A few other women
And the beloved apostle, John, were present
Where was the angel now
Where was God now
But Mary believed
Had FAITH until the end
And God did come through
Our world was CHANGED
ALL because Mary said YES
ALL BECAUSE MARY BELIEVED
Today is the Blessed Mother’s birthday
And we pray to her
As we encounter difficulties in our own life
Which we cannot understand
To ALWAYS TRUST in God
And SAY YES to GOD
Just as Mary did
